Li Jianjian asked Ling Xiao if he had a girlfriend. Ling Xiao denied it and said he already liked someone. He then asked if Li Jianjian had anything else she wanted to ask. Li Jianjian asked how he got the burn on his shoulder. Ling Xiao said he had just finished cooking congee and accidentally spilled it on his shoulder because he hadn’t held the pot properly.
He didn’t feel any pain at the time, but when he went to treat it, he found that his clothes had stuck to his skin. Li Jianjian felt a bit heartbroken hearing that. Qi Mingyue brought clean clothes and toiletries for Li Jianjian and Ling Xiao and also delivered the flowers that Tang Can had sent for He Ziqiu.
Tang Can was too embarrassed to visit He Ziqiu after joking around the last time, but He Ziqiu didn’t mind at all. He even said he should thank Tang Can; otherwise, he might have thought Li Jianjian really disliked him. That night, the three of them sat on a bench chatting. He Ziqiu and Ling Xiao brought up Zheng Shuran again, trying to persuade Li Jianjian to break up with him. Ling Xiao asked if she truly liked Zheng Shuran.
Li Jianjian thought for a moment but couldn’t come up with a clear answer, only saying that she was quite happy at the moment. After some playful banter among the three, they returned to the hospital room. But He Ziqiu had developed a fever. Li Jianjian gave him some medicine and told him to get some sleep. After he lay down, Li Jianjian turned to see Ling Xiao reading.
Ling Xiao said he would read the book when he couldn’t fall asleep. It was a story about two lonely children wanting to escape the city. Li Jianjian took the book out of curiosity and started flipping through it, gradually feeling that the lonely children described in the book were actually Ling Xiao and He Ziqiu. Her emotions grew complicated. Ling Xiao then leaned on her shoulder and fell asleep.
The next morning, Zheng Shuran came to the hospital to visit He Ziqiu with gifts. He Ziqiu greeted him coldly. A nurse came in to take He Ziqiu’s temperature, and Zheng Shuran stared fixedly at the nurse’s waist, which Ling Xiao noticed. After the nurse left, Zheng Shuran suddenly felt inspired, pulled out his sketchbook, and began drafting a drawing. Li Jianjian felt awkward and explained that he was creating art.
After the visit, Ling Xiao took Zheng Shuran to eat and asked why he liked Li Jianjian. Zheng Shuran gave his reasons, but Ling Xiao thought he was too frivolous with feelings. While he didn’t object to Zheng Shuran and Li Jianjian being friends, he advised him to seriously consider whether it was worth sacrificing a soul-level friendship for a fleeting romance.
To help Ling Xiao sleep better, Li Jianjian went to a bookstore to pick out a book for him. She also bought wallpaper and other decorations with Qi Mingyue and made his room very cozy. That night, He Ziqiu was discharged from the hospital and immediately clamored to take a shower when he got home, even asking Ling Xiao to help him.
Qi Mingyue prepared a hotpot meal at home and told Li Jianjian to call them over to eat later. Zhuang Bei also came to Qi Mingyue’s place to eat with them. When Tang Can learned that Zhuang Bei would be there, she carefully put on makeup and dressed up. But Zhuang Bei only had eyes for Qi Mingyue.
As they were almost done eating, Qi Mingyue and Tang Can sang in the living room, and Zhuang Bei, also in the living room, asked Qi Mingyue if she had a boyfriend and what she thought of Ling Xiao and He Ziqiu. Qi Mingyue felt shy and didn’t share her true feelings. Zhuang Bei continued, saying that since Li Jianjian, Ling Xiao, and He Ziqiu had been close since childhood, one pair among them was bound to end up together.
But Qi Mingyue disagreed, saying it was impossible—Ling Xiao already liked someone else. Zhuang Bei then added that men obsessed with their sisters were not suitable partners because they would always prioritize their sister. But Qi Mingyue argued that a man who treated his sister so well would also treat his girlfriend well in the future. Only Li Jianjian, Ling Xiao, and He Ziqiu were left at the table.
Li Jianjian watched He Ziqiu and Ling Xiao bicker and felt emotional. She sat between the two of them and wrapped one arm around each. She had been thinking since yesterday: if something had really happened to He Ziqiu, she would definitely regret how terribly she had treated him these past few days. Now, she genuinely welcomed both He Ziqiu and Ling Xiao back home.
