After Jin Yuxiang finished cleaning Qi Mingyue’s place, Qi Mingyue walked her downstairs and mentioned that the TV station had an opportunity to send two young reporters to be stationed in Beijing. Jin Yuxiang immediately objected, saying Beijing was too far and she didn’t feel at ease letting Qi Mingyue go alone. She added that if Qi Mingyue went to Beijing for two years, she’d be 27 when she returned, which would make marriage an issue.
Ling Heping was working at the station when he suddenly got a call from Chen Ting. She asked how he was doing and then inquired whether Ling Xiao was with him. From the way Chen Ting talked, Ling Heping realized she had no idea Ling Xiao had returned to look for work. That evening, Ling Heping talked to Li Haichao about it, and Li Haichao told him to speak with Ling Xiao and clarify things.
But Ling Heping felt like they didn’t have anything to talk about anymore and asked Li Haichao to speak on his behalf. Li Haichao refused, saying this matter had to be handled by Ling Heping personally. Because of the tension with Li Jianjian, Ling Xiao gave his appointment with her to Feng Xixi. Feng Xixi tried to ask Li Jianjian about Ling Xiao, but Li Jianjian didn’t want to talk.
After the dental check-up, Li Jianjian couldn’t help sneaking a peek at Ling Xiao’s office. Ling Xiao glanced at her but said nothing. Li Jianjian returned to her studio, and Zheng Shuran came to visit. When they started talking about Ling Xiao and He Ziqiu, Du Juan realized that Li Jianjian had two older brothers. She wanted to ask more, but Li Jianjian quickly changed the topic.
That night, when Li Jianjian returned home, she ran into Ling Xiao at the elevator with a suitcase. He looked at her but said nothing and walked off. She chased after him and asked if he was moving back to Ling Heping’s place. He denied it. She then asked if he was returning to Singapore. Ling Xiao didn’t answer, so she assumed he was and tried to persuade him not to leave just because of a fight.
She apologized, admitting she had been impulsive that day, and asked for some time to cool off. Ling Xiao walked over to the trash can, suddenly squatted down, and opened his suitcase—only then did he explain he was just taking out the trash. Li Jianjian was embarrassed and didn’t know what to say. At that moment, Qi Mingyue returned, and Li Jianjian quickly helped her carry her things upstairs, leaving her alone with Ling Xiao.
When Li Jianjian got home, she found He Ziqiu waiting at her door. She hid to the side. He Ziqiu hesitated for a long time but didn’t knock. He just hung a bag on her door handle. Just as he did, his phone rang—it was a call from Zhuang Bei. After He Ziqiu had run into He Mei last time, he had asked Zhuang Bei to help him investigate.
Zhuang Bei found out where He Mei got on and off the bus. Zhuang Bei asked why he didn’t ask Ling Heping for help, but before He Ziqiu could answer, Ling Xiao suddenly showed up, and He Ziqiu quickly hung up the call. Tang Can’s father invited her to dinner. The reason she had moved out was because of a conflict with her mother, who she felt only wanted her to earn more money.
Her father didn’t know how to mediate between them. After the meal, he told her that her mother’s birthday was coming up and asked her to come home for it. Tang Can hesitated but eventually agreed. He Ziqiu got into a car accident. Li Jianjian, who received the news while on a bus, couldn’t get off, so she called Tang Can and asked her to use her bank card to pay at the hospital first.
When Li Jianjian arrived and asked about He Ziqiu’s condition, Tang Can put on an act, saying He Ziqiu had a face full of blood and the doctor had done all they could. She just wanted to tease Li Jianjian a little, but Li Jianjian believed her and burst into tears. Ling Xiao rushed over upon hearing her crying to comfort her. Only after hearing He Ziqiu was fine did she feel relieved—but she cried even harder.
When He Ziqiu regained consciousness, the nurse told them that he had taken sedatives. He recalled that before he left, he had taken pills from Ling Xiao’s bedside drawer, which Ling Xiao had once told him were vitamins. Only now did he realize they were sleeping pills and that Ling Xiao had been suffering from insomnia. Worried, Ling Heping scolded Ling Xiao and told him to clarify things with Chen Ting, who had called recently.
Ling Xiao knew he couldn’t avoid the issue anymore and decided to tell Chen Ting the truth over the phone. Ling Heping also talked with Ling Xiao, hoping that in the future, no matter what happened, good or bad, Ling Xiao would talk to him. Ling Xiao agreed. After their talk, Ling Xiao returned to the hospital room where Li Jianjian was taking care of He Ziqiu. When He Ziqiu saw Ling Xiao enter, he asked what had really happened.
Ling Xiao said it was nothing—he had hidden the sedatives in a vitamin bottle because he didn’t want Qin Meiyang and Chen Ting to know. In that household, he wasn’t allowed to be sick. Both He Ziqiu and Li Jianjian felt sorry for him. After He Ziqiu rested, Li Jianjian and Ling Xiao went to a café to talk. Li Jianjian asked him about his life in Singapore.
