After Jin Yuxiang finished cleaning Qi Mingyue's home, Qi Mingyue accompanied her downstairs and spoke of a new opportunity at the TV station to send two young reporters to Beijing to be resident correspondents. Jin Yuxiang strongly opposed this, expressing concern that Beijing was too far, and she worried about Qi Mingyue going alone.
She also stated that if Qi Mingyue went to Beijing for two years, she would be twenty-seven upon her return, and marriage would then become a problem. Jin Yuxiang further argued that as a girl, working alone in another city would be too difficult and unsafe, and she might not meet anyone, leading to difficulties with marriage. While Ling Heping was at work, Chen Ting called him, asking after Ling Xiao and exchanging pleasantries.
From Chen Ting's words, Ling Heping realized she was unaware that Ling Xiao had returned to China for work. That evening, Ling Heping discussed the call with Li Haichao, who advised him to talk to Ling Xiao and clarify the situation. Ling Heping felt he couldn't easily talk to Ling Xiao and asked Li Haichao to do it instead. However, Li Haichao refused, insisting that Ling Heping himself needed to speak with Ling Xiao.
Due to the strained relationship between Ling Xiao and Li Jianjian, Ling Xiao rescheduled Li Jianjian's dental appointment, assigning it to Feng Xixi. At the clinic, Feng Xixi tried to inquire about Ling Xiao from Li Jianjian, but Li Jianjian was reluctant to discuss him. After her dental examination, Li Jianjian couldn't resist peeking into Ling Xiao's clinic. Ling Xiao saw her but showed no reaction. Feeling down, Li Jianjian returned to her studio. While there, Zheng Shuran visited.
Li Jianjian spoke about Ling Xiao and He Ziqiu, leading Du Juan to realize that Li Jianjian had two older brothers. Du Juan attempted to press for more details, but Li Jianjian quickly changed the subject. That evening, Li Jianjian encountered Ling Xiao, who was dragging a suitcase, in the elevator. Ling Xiao remained silent, simply pulling his suitcase away. Li Jianjian chased after him, asking if he intended to move back to Ling Heping's home or return to Singapore.
When Ling Xiao did not answer the question about Singapore, Li Jianjian assumed he was silently confirming it. Believing she had angered him and that he was going back to Singapore due to their spat, Li Jianjian softened her attitude and apologized, admitting she had been impulsive and asking for time for both him and He Ziqiu to adjust.
Ling Xiao then walked to a trash can, squatted, and opened his suitcase, explaining that he was merely going downstairs to throw out the trash. Li Jianjian was mortified and embarrassed, unsure what to say. Just then, Qi Mingyue returned home from work. Li Jianjian quickly took Qi Mingyue's belongings and headed upstairs, leaving Qi Mingyue and Ling Xiao to talk. Later, He Ziqiu was seen at Li Jianjian's front door, hesitating to knock.
He hung a bag on the doorknob. His phone rang, and it was Zhuang Bei. After his recent encounter with He Mei, He Ziqiu had secretly entrusted Zhuang Bei with investigating his mother's whereabouts, specifically her starting and ending points. Zhuang Bei asked why He Ziqiu hadn't sought Ling Heping's help for the investigation. Li Jianjian was hiding nearby, listening to He Ziqiu's call.
Before He Ziqiu could answer Zhuang Bei, Ling Xiao suddenly returned, causing He Ziqiu to quickly hang up the phone. Tang Can's father met her for dinner. Tang Can had moved out of her family home due to ongoing conflict with her mother, believing her mother only cared about her earning more money. Her father struggled to mediate between them. After dinner, he reminded Tang Can that her mother's birthday was approaching and asked her to come home to celebrate.
Tang Can hesitated but eventually agreed. Unexpectedly, He Ziqiu was involved in a car accident and was rushed to the hospital. Upon hearing the news while on a bus and unable to disembark immediately, Li Jianjian called Tang Can and asked her to go to the hospital first, using her bank card.
When Li Jianjian arrived at the hospital and asked Tang Can about He Ziqiu's condition, Tang Can dramatically pretended that He Ziqiu had been covered in blood and that the doctors had done their best. Tang Can had intended to tease Li Jianjian, but Li Jianjian took it seriously and burst into loud sobs. Hearing Li Jianjian's crying, Ling Xiao quickly came over to comfort her.
Li Jianjian was relieved to learn that He Ziqiu was actually fine, but continued to cry even harder. Li Jianjian and the others had rushed to the hospital, filled with anxiety. When He Ziqiu regained consciousness, a nurse informed them that he had taken tranquilizers. He Ziqiu then recalled taking medicine from Ling Xiao's nightstand earlier, which Ling Xiao had told him were "vitamin tablets." He now realized that Ling Xiao suffered from insomnia and the pills were sleeping pills.
Ling Heping, worried about Ling Xiao, scolded him gently and brought up Chen Ting's phone call. He urged Ling Xiao to clearly explain the situation to Chen Ting, emphasizing that if Ling Xiao wanted to stay in China, he needed to be clear with his mother. Ling Xiao acknowledged that he could not avoid the conversation any longer and decided to call Chen Ting to tell her the truth.
Ling Heping also asked Ling Xiao to share both good and bad news with him in the future, to which Ling Xiao agreed. Ling Xiao then returned to the hospital room where Li Jianjian was caring for He Ziqiu. He Ziqiu asked Ling Xiao about the incident.
Ling Xiao explained that he was fine and that he had hidden the tranquilizers in a vitamin bottle because he did not want Qin Meiyang and Chen Ting to know he was sick, as he felt he could not be ill in that family and they would worry. Both He Ziqiu and Li Jianjian felt a pang of sympathy for Ling Xiao. After He Ziqiu rested, Li Jianjian and Ling Xiao went to a coffee shop, where Li Jianjian asked Ling Xiao about his time in Singapore.
