Ling Xiao informed He Ziqiu of his decision to attend university in Singapore to care for his mother, Chen Ting, and his sister. In a fit of anger and surprise, He Ziqiu punched Ling Xiao, accusing him of being heartless. He Ziqiu then revealed that he had reconciled with his biological father, Zhao Huaguang, and would also be going abroad for his studies, admitting that he, too, was like a heartless ingrate.

Ling Xiao, surprised, got up and punched He Ziqiu, then mounted him and grabbed his collar, escalating into a physical struggle on the rooftop. Li Jianjian arrived on the rooftop, saw her two brothers fighting, and quickly intervened to pull them apart. After they returned inside, Li Jianjian learned that both Ling Xiao and He Ziqiu were planning to go abroad, essentially leaving her. She was deeply distressed and refused to accept their departure, hoping they would stay.

Li Haichao tried to persuade her, explaining that the decision was final. Li Jianjian, unable to accept this, retreated to her room and cried, muffled under her blanket. She asked Ling Xiao why he had to go to Singapore to care for Chen Ting, to which Ling Xiao silently replied that Chen Ting was, after all, his mother. Unable to refute this fact, Li Jianjian continued to cry.

He Ziqiu and Ling Xiao sequentially entered Li Jianjian's room to check on her. Li Jianjian, however, remained muffled under her blanket, refusing to acknowledge Ling Xiao and only crying without speaking when He Ziqiu tried to persuade her to eat. After He Ziqiu left, Ling Xiao tried to comfort Li Jianjian.

As Ling Xiao prepared to leave, Li Jianjian suddenly questioned if they were not truly a family, suggesting Ling Xiao was merely a neighbor and He Ziqiu just fostered. Ling Xiao denied this, affirming they were a family in his heart and even promised that once Li Jianjian grew up, they would be together forever. Ling Xiao also assured her he would be in a relationship with her upon his return.

However, Li Jianjian did not believe him, thinking he was lying, and kept crying, stating that if they left, they would no longer be her brothers. Ling Xiao, feeling helpless, then left the room. Later that night, Li Haichao found He Ziqiu still awake when he got up for the restroom. Li Haichao poured He Ziqiu a glass of milk, and they talked. He Ziqiu felt particularly guilty towards Li Jianjian.

Li Haichao reassured him, saying Li Jianjian was just struggling to accept it for the moment, and that children eventually leave their parents. He Ziqiu worried about Li Jianjian being bullied in their absence. Li Haichao, a little resigned, advised that if she were bullied, she would have to fight back herself, and that he and Ling Xiao also had to bear their own grievances when facing difficulties outside.

He also mentioned that as they grew up, He Ziqiu and Ling Xiao would eventually have their own families and greater responsibilities. He Ziqiu, however, declared that he would not marry and that staying with them was enough. Li Haichao dismissed this as childish talk from someone who hadn't yet grown up.

Li Haichao urged He Ziqiu not to overthink things and expressed his genuine desire for He Ziqiu to have a better future, also strictly instructing him to return immediately after graduation. He Ziqiu, realizing Li Haichao was not angry with him, broke down in tears due to his inner turmoil. The following morning, Li Haichao went to call Li Jianjian for breakfast but discovered she was not in her room.

He learned from a phone call that Li Jianjian had gone to grandma-in-law's house. Ling Heping returned home for breakfast and noticed the injuries on Ling Xiao and He Ziqiu's faces. Upon inquiring, he learned about Ling Xiao's uncle wanting Ling Xiao to attend university in Singapore. Ling Heping called Ling Xiao's uncle, sternly reprimanding him for being selfish and irresponsible, for abandoning Chen Ting and expecting Ling Xiao to care for her.

Ling Heping, in a fit of pique, declared that the Ling family would no longer consider Ling Xiao's uncle a relative and threatened to sever ties before hanging up. Ling Heping then asked Ling Xiao if his university application could still be changed. Ling Xiao revealed that he had already been accepted by the medical school in Singapore and could no longer change his plans.

Ling Heping was furious that Ling Xiao had not discussed this with him, but Li Haichao protected Ling Xiao, telling Ling Heping to stop. With both brothers' departures for studies now finalized, they went back to their rooms to pack and found shoes Li Jianjian had bought for them, leaving them feeling deeply saddened.

Before his departure, Ling Xiao met with Qi Mingyue at a restaurant, informing her that he and He Ziqiu would be studying abroad and entrusting her with Li Jianjian's care. Qi Mingyue cried profusely, unwilling to part with Ling Xiao. On the day of Ling Xiao's departure, Li Jianjian did not return home. Ling Xiao took a taxi to the airport, and He Ziqiu did not see him off.

On the eve of He Ziqiu's departure, Li Haichao called Li Jianjian, urging her to come back to see He Ziqiu off. Li Jianjian remained stubbornly unwilling to return home. He Ziqiu could only ask Li Haichao to send him a message when Li Jianjian eventually came back. Li Jianjian spent the entire summer at grandma-in-law's house. She finally returned home for the start of the new school term.

In class, Qi Mingyue asked Li Jianjian if she had called Ling Xiao or He Ziqiu, and tried to persuade Li Jianjian to understand the difficulties her brothers faced. Li Jianjian, unable to listen, lost her temper with Qi Mingyue for the first time, kicking a chair and storming out of the classroom, not returning for class. Qi Mingyue felt worried about Li Jianjian.

Tang Can entered the classroom just as Li Jianjian was leaving angrily, and classmates, seeing Tang Can, unanimously called her "Female Lead" and eagerly gathered around her to flatter her. Li Jianjian took the bus home alone after school. With few passengers, she found herself recalling past bus rides with He Ziqiu and Ling Xiao, when the three of them would sit together after school, leaning on each other happily.

The painful memories brought tears to her eyes, which she wiped away. She unknowingly fell asleep and only woke up when the driver called her name at her stop. Burdened with thoughts, she got off the bus and walked home. Neighbor Wang Doudou suddenly caught up with Li Jianjian and asked about her two brothers, concluding that Li Jianjian had been abandoned by them.

Li Jianjian, however, vehemently insisted that she had not been abandoned, defending them by saying they would return after finishing university. Outside the building, Aunt Qian was chatting with Wang Doudou's mother. Wang Doudou's mother also brought up Li Jianjian's two brothers who had gone abroad. Aunt Qian remarked that time would reveal everything, and if the brothers returned to fulfill their filial duties after they started working, it would show they had a conscience.

Upon arriving home, Li Jianjian found Li Haichao on the phone with Ling Xiao, advising Ling Xiao to take good care of his mother. Seeing Li Jianjian enter, Li Haichao quickly told Ling Xiao not to hang up and to talk to her. However, Li Jianjian ignored him, changed her shoes, and closed herself in her room.
