Chen Changsheng found himself somewhat anxious as the key to the National Academy remained missing, a consequence of Tang Sanshiliu's failed inventions. In moments of unease, Chen Changsheng often sought solace in books. As he gazed upon familiar texts, his thoughts drifted back to a carefree childhood, bringing a sense of warmth and longing.
He thought of his master and senior brother, wondering how they were faring, and recalled his master's words: "Read a book a hundred times, and its meaning will reveal itself. In books, there are answers to all things." This made him consider that the search for the academy's key might begin with reading. Meanwhile, a less conventional solution came to Xuanyuan Po: finding a locksmith to create a new key for the National Academy's main gate.
This pursuit inadvertently led him to witness Nan Ke abducting the locksmith, Nie Ying. Realizing she couldn't extract information from Nie Ying directly, the cunning Nan Ke conspired with one of her Seven Killers. The Seven Killer impersonated Qiu Shanjun, rescuing Nie Ying from Nan Ke's staged torture. Feigning gratitude, the locksmith then revealed that the Zhou Garden key was most likely hidden within the National Academy.
With this revelation, the long-dormant National Academy was poised for another upheaval, though Chen Changsheng, Luoluo, and Xuanyuan Po inside remained unaware of the impending danger. Back at the National Academy, Chen Changsheng, reflecting on Luoluo and Xuanyuan Po’s observations about the books in the library, deduced that the room held a secret.
He realized the arrangement of the books, appearing haphazard, actually followed a musical pattern of five tones, and that the "beginning is also the end," meaning the key was hidden within the academy itself. Playing a Xun, a secret compartment opened, revealing the key. However, acquiring it was not straightforward, as it was protected by a complex vine and lightning formation. Chen Changsheng found himself unable to decipher the array.
Undeterred by his earlier failure, Tang Sanshiliu, ever the inventor, presented a new device, confident it would break the formation. Yet again, his invention proved ineffective, failing to withstand the electrical attacks and throwing him back. Despite this setback, Tang Sanshiliu insisted on another attempt, much to Luoluo's strong objection. Their argument was interrupted when Nan Ke stealthily entered the academy. She held a sword to Chen Changsheng's neck, demanding the Zhou Garden key.
Though Chen Changsheng didn't understand why Nan Ke believed the key was there, he and Tang Sanshiliu devised a plan to trick her into breaking the vine and lightning formation. Their performance was convincing. Nan Ke, believing the key to be within the formation, easily broke it and retrieved what she thought was the key. To her astonishment, the "key" flew away, revealed to be snatched by Tang Sanshiliu, who was wearing an invisibility cloak.
Furious, Nan Ke pursued him, only to discover a more infuriating truth: the object she had just risked her life for was merely the National Academy's main gate key, not the Zhou Garden key. Enraged, Nan Ke intensified her pursuit of Tang Sanshiliu, who, realizing his peril, fled. However, Nan Ke and her subordinates eventually caught up. Just as Nan Ke ordered his death, Mo Yu arrived, saving Tang Sanshiliu.
This rescue only solidified the self-centered Tang Sanshiliu's conviction that Mo Yu was secretly in love with him. Thwarted in her attempt to kill Tang Sanshiliu, Nan Ke retreated. On her way back to the monster realm, she made a detour to see Qiu Shanjun. To her dismay, he remained as cold and indifferent as ever. When she feared he might kill her, he abruptly stopped, making her believe he still cared for her.
However, his next words shattered her hopes: his entire focus was on finding Heart-Warming Orchids for Xu Yourong, and he had no time to waste on Nan Ke. Heartbroken, Nan Ke returned to the monster realm, feigning indifference, but the black-robed figure immediately saw through her facade. As Nan Ke attempted to deny her feelings, the black-robed figure produced a demon seed.
He told Nan Ke that if she planted it in Qiu Shanjun, he would become a member of the monster race, but it first required a strand of his hair for "soul activation." Filled with joy at the prospect of being with Qiu Shanjun forever, Nan Ke eagerly sought him out again. Without a word, she attacked Qiu Shanjun as he was gathering Heart-Warming Orchids. After a struggle, she finally managed to obtain a strand of his hair.
Unaware of the sinister plot unfolding against him, Qiu Shanjun remained entirely preoccupied with thoughts of Xu Yourong. Following Nan Ke's unexpected intrusion, Chen Changsheng established a new formation within the National Academy to prevent similar incidents. This allowed him to focus on preparing for the Green Vine Banquet. Meanwhile, Luoluo still needed further conditioning for her body.
Chen Changsheng initially planned to gather herbs from the mountains, but Luoluo informed him that the Herb Garden where she resided was already a comprehensive medicinal garden, rendering a distant search unnecessary. Chen Changsheng, delighted by the rich and rare collection of herbs in the Herb Garden, unexpectedly encountered The Empress, who was playing chess alone. Out of courtesy, Chen Changsheng respectfully greeted her. The Empress, however, simply motioned for him to sit, her attention fixed on the chessboard.
Chen Changsheng joined the game, and they played an intense match, a clash of wits to determine who possessed greater skill. Only after the game concluded did The Empress look up at Chen Changsheng, her curiosity piqued by his striking resemblance to Emperor Taizong. Shortly after The Empress returned to the palace, Mo Yu arrived to request an audience.
Xu Weixin had asked Mo Yu to persuade The Empress to annul the marriage contract between Chen Changsheng and Xu Yourong and to eliminate Chen Changsheng. However, The Empress did not fully trust Xu Weixin's one-sided account and had no intention of troubling Chen Changsheng for this reason. Nevertheless, hearing of his engagement to Xu Yourong, a restless Empress summoned Xu Yourong, advising her to follow her heart and choose the path best suited for her.
Xu Yourong's heart was indeed conflicted. Her Heavenly Phoenix bloodline destined her to fall for a Heavenly Dragon bloodline; otherwise, she would suffer a backlash. Yet, the deep feelings she harbored made it impossible for her to simply let go. Mo Yu, observing Xu Yourong's indecision, grew anxious. She privately believed that only Qiu Shanjun was worthy of Xu Yourong.
However, matters of the heart are deeply personal, known only to those who experience them, and beyond the understanding of outsiders. One day, Luoluo, in a rare visit, called upon The Empress. Watching the lively young girl enthusiastically praise Chen Changsheng, The Empress found her curiosity about him growing. She wondered to what heights he might truly ascend.
