Mo Yu found Xu Yourong, handing her the Blood Toad previously discovered on a Zhou Garden survivor. Mo Yu informed her that only Xuan Youzi in the Divine Capital possessed the secret art associated with the Blood Toad. As Mo Yu could not provide Xuan Youzi's exact whereabouts, Xu Yourong resolved to track him using her astrolabe. Mo Yu then pivoted to Xu Yourong's arranged marriage, asking if her grandfather had indeed arranged one with Chen Changsheng.

Xu Yourong confirmed, having met him a few times. Mo Yu voiced her suspicion of Chen Changsheng, implying his intentions were impure and he was an unsuitable match. She detailed his relationship with Luo Luo, the demon princess, whom he had brought from a spoiled nature to obedience, even allowing intimate behavior like breaking down walls between their rooms and accepting spiritual herbs as snacks. Xu Yourong dismissed these concerns, stating Chen Changsheng’s personal affairs were irrelevant to her.

Mo Yu persisted, stressing that Xu Yourong, with her noble Heavenly Phoenix bloodline, was only worthy of someone with the Tianlong bloodline, like Qiu Shanjun, who was exemplary in both appearance and martial arts. Xu Yourong, however, declared her heart was dedicated to the Dao, having relinquished worldly emotions for cultivation since childhood at Shengnv Peak, and remained unmoved by thoughts of either Qiu Shanjun or Chen Changsheng.

She further mused that the "Wujian and Guitong" (my sword, lonely Paulownia) gifted by the Holy Empress might signify a life of solitude for her. Internally, Xu Yourong acknowledged that past joys belonged to the past, and both she and Chen Changsheng had their own responsibilities and paths, which they must accept.

At the National Academy, Tang Sanshiliu discussed the importance of talent with Xuanyuan Po, asserting that Chen Changsheng’s inherent genius would lead him to astonish everyone at the upcoming Green Vine Banquet, rendering diligent effort less significant. Xuanyuan Po, feeling his own lack of talent, agreed. Inside, Chen Changsheng was engrossed in studying, determined to find a method to resolve the meridian issues faced by Luo Luo and Xuanyuan Po.

He explained that while innate bloodline power granted immense strength, it often came with inherent flaws, such as the numerous bottlenecks Luo Luo and others encountered in their cultivation, or his own powerful divine sense making his cultivation ten times harder than average. He highlighted that the demon race’s fewer meridians made healing injuries particularly challenging. Xu Yourong, while tracking a clue related to Xuan Youzi, briefly encountered Chen Changsheng, who was collecting herbs in a dense forest.

Unbeknownst to them, they had met before, and neither recognized the other. His knowledge of herbs impressed her. Later, Xuanyuan Po, influenced by external gossip questioning Chen Changsheng’s ability to solve the demon meridian problems, attempted to cultivate secretly, leading to him coughing blood. Chen Changsheng discovered this, and after securing a promise from Xuanyuan Po not to push himself, Chen Changsheng continued his research. He refined three pills intended for the demon race's unique physiology.

However, when Tang Sanshiliu convinced Xuanyuan Po to be the first to test them, the pills caused Xuanyuan Po to rapidly overheat and react violently. Chen Changsheng had to intervene with acupuncture to stabilize him. Realizing his alchemy technique was flawed, Chen Changsheng decided he needed guidance from a master alchemist. Luo Luo suggested Xuan Youzi, a reclusive demon alchemist known for his genius, residing at Lan You Monastery on Mount Lan.

Chen Changsheng, valuing knowledge above affiliations, resolved to meet Xuan Youzi. Meanwhile, Xuan Youzi, frustrated by his repeated failures in alchemy, was visited by a black-robed figure. The figure reminded Xuan Youzi of his true identity as a demon protector and questioned his failure to extract information about the Zhou Garden key from Ye Shi Hulan, the captured survivor.

The black-robed figure offered Zhou Dufu's legendary cauldron in exchange for the key, knowing it was Xuan Youzi's ultimate desire, and warned him to remain clandestine as humans were also searching. Xu Yourong, tracking Xuan Youzi, once again encountered Chen Changsheng, who was still collecting herbs. They found themselves repeatedly returning to the same spot. Chen Changsheng, knowledgeable about herbs, explained the properties of Immortal Root, Southern Mingzi, and Northern Anzi.

As rain began, Xu Yourong created a magical umbrella for him. He picked a Rain-Listening Lilac, also known as Worry-Relieving Grass, for her. They shared a pleasant interaction, a rare moment of ease for Xu Yourong. Before parting ways near the Divine Capital, Chen Changsheng introduced himself. Xu Yourong, realizing he was Chen Changsheng, the boy from her past, was surprised but chose not to reveal her identity. Xu Yourong returned to her residence and found Qiu Shanjun waiting.

He observed her unusually cheerful mood, noting it was the first time in twenty-seven encounters he had seen her smile so happily. Xu Yourong attributed her mood to beautiful scenery. Qiu Shanjun emphasized their mutual fight against demons. Xu Yourong privately reflected on Chen Changsheng, acknowledging her feelings of loss due to their past separation and unspoken emotions. Xu Yourong eventually arrived at Xuan Youzi's secluded dwelling.

Xuan Youzi recognized her Heavenly Phoenix bloodline and sinisterly planned to refine her into an elixir. Chen Changsheng also arrived shortly after. They entered the dwelling, where Xuan Youzi activated his cauldron, trapping Xu Yourong inside its miniature world. She realized the alchemist's true identity and confronted him, accusing him of killing Gui Tuantou. Xuan Youzi proudly admitted to the murder and revealed his true nature as a demon protector, expressing his long-suppressed desire to refine humans into elixirs.

Xu Yourong attempted to strike him but failed within his domain. Chen Changsheng, worried about Xu Yourong, also entered the cauldron's miniature world. Upon seeing Xuan Youzi, Chen Changsheng initially attempted to seek alchemy advice, but Xu Yourong warned him that Xuan Youzi was a demon. Chen Changsheng humorously wondered if Xuan Youzi’s race had changed from consuming too many elixirs. Xuan Youzi, unamused, left them to be refined by the cauldron's flames.

Xu Yourong, immune to fire due to her Heavenly Phoenix bloodline, absorbed the flames, protecting Chen Changsheng. Witnessing her power, Chen Changsheng was reminded of "Little Rong'er," an old acquaintance who could also control fire and once grilled him a terrible fish. He expressed his lasting memory of that unique taste and his refusal to eat grilled fish since her departure, saving the memory for her.

Xu Yourong, deeply moved, quietly asked if he had thought of that little girl, and his affirmative response brought her joy. Xuan Youzi, enraged by Xu Yourong's resilience, activated his Heaven and Earth Cauldron, escalating his attack with arrays and summoning shadowy figures to eliminate them. Chen Changsheng's profound knowledge of mechanisms allowed him to guide Xu Yourong, who swiftly neutralized the attacking figures. They escaped to another part of the miniature world.

Xuan Youzi, frustrated, decided to turn them into mindless slaves. He then trapped them in an illusion mirror. Chen Changsheng, seeing an illusion of Luo Luo calling for help, rushed to save her, becoming trapped himself. Two identical images of Chen Changsheng appeared, both claiming to be real. Xu Yourong tested them by asking about the taste of the fish "Little Rong'er" had grilled. The true Chen Changsheng described it as "super terrible."

Xu Yourong shattered the false mirror, and they fell into another space. In this new space, Xuan Youzi was nowhere to be found, only his servant remained. Chen Changsheng initially tried to get information from the servant, but he seemed too disoriented to be helpful. Chen Changsheng then realized that Xuan Youzi had reversed the array, turning their current location into a perilous zone, and they needed to find the 'Gate of Life' to escape this miniature world.

Despite initial frustration, Chen Changsheng was emboldened by Xu Yourong's unwavering trust. Suddenly, a small duck appeared and waddled away without a care, inspiring Chen Changsheng to instantly locate the Gate of Life. Meanwhile, Xuan Youzi's escape from Lan You Ruins was short-lived, as Qiu Shanjun intercepted him right outside. Mo Yu had orchestrated Qiu Shanjun's presence to create an opportunity for him and Xu Yourong, inadvertently leading him to block Xuan Youzi.

Knowing he was no match for Qiu Shanjun, Xuan Youzi split into two, with one clone fleeing in a different direction, pursued by Luo Luo and Tang Sanshiliu who had also arrived looking for Chen Changsheng. Therefore, when Chen Changsheng, Xu Yourong, and the servant emerged from the Gate of Life, they found no one at the entrance. It was then that the servant spoke, revealing himself as Ye Shi Hulan, the sole survivor of Zhou Garden.

He described Zhou Garden as a hellish place and explained that the key's whereabouts were elusive, with only Nie Ying, the Imperial City locksmith, potentially holding clues. Unbeknownst to them, Nan Ke had been eavesdropping. Having acquired the information she needed, Nan Ke murdered Ye Shi Hulan. Xu Yourong attempted to capture Nan Ke, but Qiu Shanjun's sudden appearance caused Nan Ke to flee. Ye Shi Hulan died, his last words indicating the key was "both medicine and stone."

Xu Yourong introduced Chen Changsheng as the young Daoist who had saved her, and Qiu Shanjun expressed his gratitude. Qiu Shanjun informed them he had killed Xuan Youzi, which Chen Changsheng also acknowledged gratefully. Qiu Shanjun's comment that eliminating demons was his destiny suddenly inspired Chen Changsheng, who connected it with the inscriptions he saw in Xuan Youzi's room, realizing how to solve the demon race's meridian problem.

Chen Changsheng, joyous, bid farewell to Xu Yourong and Qiu Shanjun and returned to the National Academy. He placed Luo Luo and Xuanyuan Po in the Hidden Eye Array, allowing them to cultivate intuitively to revert to their original state and improve their meridians. After a short period, both felt significant positive changes. Deacon Xin delivered invitations for the Green Vine Banquet to Chen Changsheng. Participation, however, hinged on finding the missing key to the National Academy's gate.

To help find the key, Tang Sanshiliu invented a "detector," which instead of finding the key, trapped Xuanyuan Po. Back in the Divine Capital, Xu Yourong asked Mo Yu to locate the locksmith Nie Ying, emphasizing his importance to the Zhou Garden key. Simultaneously, Nan Ke informed the black-robed figure about Nie Ying, promising to find him before humans and secure information about the Zhou Garden key.
