Chen Changsheng faced the brutal Heavenly Destruction punishment for allegedly colluding with demons and assassinating human and demon elites. Tianhai Ya'er, who had earlier attempted to frame Chen Changsheng by orchestrating a demon prison break, was thrilled by the Empress's decree for his execution. During Chen Changsheng's torment, his loyal friends Luoluo, Tang Sanshiliu, and Xuanyuan Po rushed to his defense, prepared to fight the guards.

However, before the conflict escalated, the Pope arrived and presented a holographic image of Li Shan, the night watchman. Li Shan's testimony confirmed he had witnessed Huo Guang being killed by demons outside the National Academy, thereby exonerating Chen Changsheng. With this crucial evidence, the Pope declared Chen Changsheng innocent and ordered his release, though he imposed a heavy fine on the National Academy for disrupting the execution.

Afterward, Xu Yourong met privately with the Pope, expressing her gratitude for his intervention. The Pope revealed that Xu Yourong herself was the true savior. She recounted how she had pursued the lead on Li Shan, the night watchman. Although she couldn't extract him from the heavily guarded Tianhai family dungeon, she found him barely alive after Tianhai Ya'er had killed and discarded him in a mass grave.

Using the Holy Light technique, Xu Yourong revived Li Shan, sacrificing some of her own cultivation to secure his testimony. Xu Yourong then requested that Chen Changsheng not be informed of her involvement in his rescue, a request the Pope agreed to honor. Separately, the Empress struggled to stabilize a volatile star chart, realizing the instability was caused by a powerful external "fate star" whose identity remained a mystery to her.

Later, while Xu Yourong was practicing, Qiu Shanjun noticed she nearly suffered a cultivation deviation. She dismissed it as mere fatigue, but internally pondered if she was developing feelings, which would cause backlash according to her cultivation method. Meanwhile, Chen Changsheng, reviewing the rubbings of stone tablets that Xuanyuan Po had made, recognized the strange characters as Zhou Dufu's personal emblem from "Records of the Capital's Mysteries."

Connecting this to a riddle stating "Zhou Garden's key is medicine and also stone," he shrewdly deduced that "stone" referred to these very stone tablets. Realizing the clues to Zhou Garden's key were indeed hidden at the National Academy, he created a protective barrier around them. He then sent a Wind-Seeking Crane message to Xu Yourong, requesting an urgent meeting at Naihe Bridge the following day.

When Qiu Shanjun found Xu Yourong gazing at the star chart, she mentioned celestial anomalies indicated the key's appearance, and began to calculate its trajectory. The next day, Chen Changsheng met Xu Yourong at Naihe Bridge. He showed her the inscriptions from the stone tablets, reminding her of the "medicine and stone" riddle. She confirmed his deduction that the "stone" referred to the tablets, complimenting his childhood cleverness.

However, Xu Yourong then revealed that her recent star calculations indicated the key's true location was not at the National Academy, but in Tianliang County. She explained that an unofficial history recorded Zhou Dufu falling in love with a woman in his hometown, Tianliang County, before he left. She suggested this might be where the key was, and expressed her intention to travel there.

Chen Changsheng voiced concern for her safety due to the demon presence, but Xu Yourong reassured him that she would travel with Qiu Shanjun, whom she trusted implicitly as her senior. Back at the National Academy, Chen Changsheng discovered he could no longer draw starlight into his body, despite sensing its presence and his true energy flowing normally. This was a grave sign that his physical condition was rapidly deteriorating.

Later, when Luoluo brought him flowers, he experienced a sudden collapse. Worried, Luoluo attributed it to lingering injuries from Tianhai Ya'er's previous assault, but Chen Changsheng merely asked her to avoid further entanglements with the Tianhai family. Meanwhile, before departing for Tianliang County with Qiu Shanjun, Xu Yourong met with Mo Yu. She informed Mo Yu of Chen Changsheng's critical state, explaining that his meridians were severely chaotic after his recent torture, and he had little time left.

Xu Yourong revealed that his only chance for survival lay in winning the Grand Court Examination, as the top floor of Lingxu Pavilion was rumored to contain Zhou Dufu's notes, which might hold a cure. She earnestly pleaded with Mo Yu to help Chen Changsheng, and Mo Yu promised to take good care of him.

As Xu Yourong departed with Qiu Shanjun, Mo Yu internally mused that Qiu Shanjun was Xu Yourong's destined match, and she would indeed look after Chen Changsheng. Chen Changsheng then visited Zhusha, attempting to break her chains with a newly developed Thunder Burst Ball. Despite its power, the artifact proved useless against the Empress's formidable array. Zhusha, observing Chen Changsheng's own chaotic meridians and inability to draw starlight, warned him that he had less than a month to live.

She reminded him of his promise to free her. Zhusha then suggested an alternative: if her life-bound Dragon Soul Jade Pendant could be found, she could transfer her dragon soul into it and temporarily leave the North New Bridge, albeit in a greatly weakened state. She recalled the pendant had been seized by Tianhai when she was captured. It was soon discovered that the Empress had bestowed the pendant upon Tianhai Chengwu, Tianhai Ya'er's father.

With the Grand Court Examination approaching, Tianhai Chengwu had given the pendant to Tianhai Ya'er, instructing him to absorb its dragon soul energy daily to enhance his powers. As Tianhai Ya'er began this process, Zhusha suffered excruciating headaches and extreme weakness, revealing her fate was directly tied to the pendant. She warned Chen Changsheng that she would dissipate within ten days if it wasn't recovered, and he promised to save her.

Learning the pendant was with the Tianhai family, Chen Changsheng shared Zhusha's plight with Tang Sanshiliu, Luoluo, and Xuanyuan Po. Tang Sanshiliu volunteered to help, attempting a stealth mission into the Tianhai mansion with an invisibility cloak. However, a barking dog detected his presence, forcing a hasty retreat. Undeterred, Tang Sanshiliu concocted a "steal the dragon and phoenix" scheme. Luoluo and Xuanyuan Po would stage a public confrontation with Tianhai Ya'er.

Chen Changsheng would then appear, and Luoluo would conspicuously display a fake Dragon Soul Jade Pendant, claiming it was Chen Changsheng's. This would provoke Tianhai Ya'er into proudly brandishing his genuine pendant to prove its authenticity. At that moment, Tang Sanshiliu, disguised as Wuyouzi, would intervene to "authenticate" the pendants, covertly swapping the real one with the fake. Their intricate plan succeeded.

Chen Changsheng brought the Dragon Soul Jade Pendant to Zhusha, full of hope for her freedom, only to discover it bore a potent restriction placed by the Empress. This unforeseen obstacle shattered Zhusha's hopes, leaving her despondent and resigned to her eternal imprisonment. Witnessing her profound despair, Chen Changsheng made a grave decision.

Despite his already fragile health and inability to sustain powerful energy, he offered to absorb the pendant's formidable starlight energy himself to help Zhusha successfully solidify her dragon soul. This heroic sacrifice came at a terrible cost: forcibly drawing the starlight into his compromised body further exacerbated his critical condition, drastically shortening his remaining lifespan to only one month.
