The Pope summoned Chen Changsheng, explaining that he had used a special leaf to rescue him during an attack by assassins arranged by Tianhai Ya'er and Xu Weixin. During their conversation, Chen Changsheng discovered that the Pope and his own master, Shang Xingzhou, were once fellow disciples who shared a deep, brotherly bond. The Pope reminisced about the glorious past of the National Academy, expressing his profound hope that Chen Changsheng could restore its former prestige.
He advised Chen Changsheng to keep his origins a secret, warning of dire consequences if those with ill intentions found out. Chen Changsheng also confirmed that his marriage contract with Xu Yourong had been arranged by his master after Shang Xingzhou saved Xu Weixin's father. The Pope acknowledged Shang Xingzhou's unparalleled medical skills and encouraged Chen Changsheng to strive for success at the upcoming Green Vine Banquet, despite the dangers.
He believed in Chen Changsheng's potential to revive the National Academy. Meanwhile, Luoluo was frantic, having not been able to find Chen Changsheng since his disappearance the previous night. She was ready to confront Tianhai Ya'er when Chen Changsheng reappeared. He reassured her, reminding her that he would never miss her birthday. To celebrate, Chen Changsheng, Tang Sanshiliu, Luoluo, and Xuanyuan Po went to a tavern.
There, Chen Changsheng presented an array of gifts to Luoluo for her birthday, and also gave presents to Tang Sanshiliu and Xuanyuan Po. While Luoluo and Xuanyuan Po were simply overjoyed, Tang Sanshiliu felt an unsettling suspicion that Chen Changsheng was behaving as if he were settling his affairs. When pressed, Chen Changsheng remained evasive, only asking Tang Sanshiliu to look after Luoluo if anything unforeseen should happen, and to apologize to Xu Yourong on his behalf.
Tang Sanshiliu vehemently refused, insisting that Chen Changsheng take care of his own responsibilities. Luoluo, meanwhile, excitedly introduced her newly cultivated "Baicao Wei" fruits from the Herb Garden, named by Tang Sanshiliu. Unbeknownst to them, Tianhai Ya'er and Xu Weixin had once again conspired to eliminate Chen Changsheng and his friends. Assassins infiltrated the tavern during the birthday feast.
However, Chen Changsheng proved more formidable than they anticipated, and he and his companions managed to fight their way out and escape. Xu Weixin was left simmering with frustration at their repeated failure, vowing that they wouldn't be so lucky next time. Later, Chen Changsheng gave Luoluo his marriage contract with Xu Yourong, instructing her to deliver it to the Xu family if he did not appear at the Green Vine Banquet.
Despite Chen Changsheng's unwavering dedication to cultivation, his condition worsened as the lifeline on his arm grew longer, and a subsequent attempt at marrow cleansing at Zhusha's place ended in disappointment. His health deteriorated to a point where he feared he might not survive until the Green Vine Banquet.
Xu Weixin, aware of Chen Changsheng's betrothal to Xu Yourong and further spurred by a reminder from the Holy Empress, was more determined than ever to eliminate Chen Changsheng before the banquet. He orchestrated a trap, luring Chen Changsheng to a secluded street. There, assassins, preying on Chen Changsheng's compassion, poisoned him and threw his seemingly lifeless body into the North New Bridge. Fortunately, Zhusha intervened just in time, saving him from a desperate fate.
Though Chen Changsheng quickly regained consciousness, his body was already under immense strain. His only remaining hope was a successful marrow cleansing. With Zhusha's dragon blood, he began another attempt. Zhusha's powerful actions, however, caught the attention of the Holy Empress. To protect Chen Changsheng from discovery, Zhusha froze him and created a diversion by scattering her dragon scales, making the Empress believe she was attempting to escape her confinement.
Zhusha, her face pale with worry, desperately wished for Chen Changsheng's cleansing to succeed this time. Meanwhile, the Lishan Sword Sect elders decided to formally propose Qiu Shanjun's marriage to Xu Yourong at the Green Vine Banquet. Gou Hanshi, accompanied by Guan Feibai and Qijian, was sent to the Divine Capital with the betrothal gifts. Upon their arrival, they were met by Zhuang Huanyu of the Heavenly Dao Academy, who challenged them.
Though Gou Hanshi initially sought to avoid conflict, Zhuang Huanyu's aggressive stance led Guan Feibai to intervene, swiftly overpowering Zhuang Huanyu and forcing the Heavenly Dao disciples to back down. Xu Weixin greeted Gou Hanshi, reinforcing the long-standing alliance between their families. Simultaneously, the Holy Empress summoned Xu Yourong to discuss the Lishan proposal.
Xu Yourong firmly rejected Qiu Shanjun, affirming that their relationship was purely that of fellow disciples and that she was fully dedicated to her pursuit of the Great Way. The Empress warned her that only a man with true dragon blood could prevent emotional attachments from harming her cultivation, but ultimately left the decision to Xu Yourong. Hearing of Qiu Shanjun's impending proposal to Xu Yourong, Luoluo became distraught, fearing that Chen Changsheng's intended bride would be taken.
As the Green Vine Banquet commenced, Chen Changsheng was still nowhere to be seen. Anticipating this possibility, he had already given Luoluo his marriage contract, instructing her to use it to buy time. When Prince Chenliu formally asked if anyone objected to the union of Qiu Shanjun and Xu Yourong, Luoluo, boiling with indignation, stepped forward. She defiantly declared that Xu Yourong already had a marriage contract with Chen Changsheng, shocking Xu Weixin and the Lishan disciples.
At that very moment, Chen Changsheng's marrow cleansing finally succeeded. The ominous lifeline on his arm receded, and to his astonishment, his cultivation had reached the Sitting Reflection realm. This breakthrough signified not only his ability to finally begin true cultivation but also a monumental step in his journey to defy fate, making him resolute against any future challenges.
