Run Yu and Xu Feng were sharing a drink when Liu Ying arrived. Liu Ying, as the Princess of Bian City, was skilled in archery and horsemanship and immediately challenged Xu Feng to a fight. Xu Feng fought without drawing his Red Clouds Sword, which Liu Ying took as a grave insult. Run Yu then explained that Xu Feng’s Red Clouds Sword possessed immense power, forged and sealed by several supreme immortals of Supreme Clarity Heaven.
If unsheathed, it could inflict severe, even fatal, injuries on a demon like Liu Ying, turning her to ashes upon contact. Xu Feng clarified that he considered Liu Ying a friend and would not draw his weapon against a friend. The three then discussed the capture of Qiong Qi.
Liu Ying found Qiong Qi's escape from the Melding Soul Cauldron perplexing, as it was an ancient divine artifact from Xuan Ling Lord Doumu and should have been impossible to break out of without assistance. They suspected that someone within the Demon Realm had helped Qiong Qi escape. Meanwhile, Jin Mi was practicing her magic. When Xu Feng approached, she eagerly asked to learn some secret techniques.
Xu Feng questioned her on the Sasa Mantra, Formless Heart Sutra, and Brahma Spell he had taught her earlier, but Jin Mi was left speechless, unable to recall the spells. Xu Feng chided her for disgracing the Qiwu Palace’s reputation. Trying to appease him, Jin Mi offered him some raisins, jokingly suggesting she was eating them to "replenish her form." Xu Feng found this ridiculous. Jin Mi then brought up his "spring dream" and asked about the fairy in it.
Xu Feng initially denied such a person existed, but Jin Mi insisted she had seen the fairy, who bore a striking resemblance to herself, and that she would easily discover her identity. Cornered, Xu Feng admitted that the fairy was indeed Jin Mi.
To further tease and perhaps scare her, Xu Feng clarified that it was not a spring dream at all; as a bird, he naturally ate fruits, and in his dream, he was merely biting and "eating" her, threatening to peel her like a grape and eat her if she continued to cause trouble instead of cultivating her powers. Jin Mi was utterly terrified.
Xu Feng, seeing her fright, quickly reassured her that dreams should not be taken seriously, but sternly warned her never to spy on an immortal's dream again and to keep their conversation a secret. Jin Mi, however, pointed out that with Run Yu and Liu Ying also aware, four people already knew.
Xu Feng, exasperated, conceded that everything she said was right, and Jin Mi, seizing the moment, lavished him with compliments, calling him the most handsome and kindest man in the six realms, begging him not to transform or bite her again, even in dreams. Shortly after, Liu Ying reported that patrol guards had found traces of Qiong Qi at the foot of Mount Chi Ren.
Xu Feng immediately forbade Jin Mi from accompanying them, stating that Qiong Qi was cunning and powerful, and she would only be a hindrance. Run Yu supported Xu Feng, advising Jin Mi that it was safer for her to remain behind. Xu Feng then instructed her to stay and memorize the Sasa Mantra, promising to test her upon their return. Leaving Jin Mi sealed within the inn, the three set off for Mount Chi Ren.
There, they observed that the scorched, blackened earth was caused by Qiong Qi’s poisonous blood, which corrupted anything it touched, not by lava. They located the cavern where Qiong Qi was hiding but faced a dilemma: killing Qiong Qi outright would cause its flesh and bones to dissolve into highly toxic liquid, devastating the surrounding thousand li and rendering the land barren even for spirits.
To prevent this catastrophe, they decided they needed to first remove Qiong Qi’s demonic nature with the Demon Dagger before re-sealing it in the Melding Soul Cauldron. Liu Ying expressed doubts about the King of Yan City lending the Demon Dagger, known for his possessiveness, but offered to ask her father, the King of Bian City, to act as guarantor. Xu Feng accepted.
Run Yu and Xu Feng then went to the King of Yan City’s palace to request the Demon Dagger. The Demon Lord initially praised their capabilities, urging them to simply kill Qiong Qi. Xu Feng argued against this, explaining the widespread destruction that would result from Qiong Qi's toxic death.
He subtly pressed the King on the suspicious circumstances of Qiong Qi's escape from the Melding Soul Cauldron, implying potential complicity from someone in the Demon Realm and warning that the blame for a future catastrophe would fall directly on him. Run Yu then stepped in to de-escalate, clarifying that they suspected a malevolent force within the Demon Realm was intentionally causing chaos, and that the King of Yan City could clear the Demon Realm’s name by cooperating.
The King, recognizing the gravity of the situation, agreed to investigate thoroughly and grudgingly considered lending the Demon Dagger. He still hesitated, citing the tradition that the Demon Dagger was only wielded by Demon Realm royalty. Run Yu proposed a compromise: a member of the Demon Realm royal family could accompany them. Liu Ying immediately volunteered, but the Demon Lord rejected her, calling it a disgrace to have outsiders and a woman fight.
A minister then suggested the King's two sons, Xuan Shou and Chi Shou, who were both skilled fighters. The King, viewing this as an opportunity for his sons to gain experience under the guidance of two supreme immortals, proudly agreed, calling forth Xuan Shou and Chi Shou, who eagerly boasted of their prowess. Xu Feng cautioned them that subduing Qiong Qi was no game.
Liu Ying reiterated her desire to join the mission, and the King, touched by her loyalty, finally permitted her. Xu Feng expressed his gratitude to the King, his princes, and Princess Liu Ying. Despite the King of Yan City’s decision, Liu Ying grumbled to Run Yu and Xu Feng about the two princes being inexperienced burdens who would only slow them down. They shifted their focus to how to lure Qiong Qi out of its cavern.
Run Yu suggested using bait, noting Qiong Qi’s injured state would make it desperate for food and healing herbs. When discussing its usual diet of human infants, Xu Feng dismissed the idea of sacrificing innocents. Run Yu then remembered ancient texts stating Qiong Qi's fondness for lingzhi. Jin Mi, who had been listening, immediately volunteered to grow the lingzhi, insisting she was the most capable among them.
Xu Feng was hesitant due to the danger, but Jin Mi was adamant, believing Xu Feng would protect her. Jin Mi began planting lingzhi at Mount Chi Ren. Xuan Shou and Chi Shou, impressed by her rapid cultivation, began to playfully suggest selling her for her magical prowess. Xu Feng, infuriated by their crude remarks, threatened to feed them to Qiong Qi, but Run Yu quickly intervened.
When Run Yu indicated that enough lingzhi had been grown and it was time to hide, Jin Mi, worried that it might not be enough to lure Qiong Qi, insisted on planting more. Xuan Shou and Chi Shou, scared, hastily retreated to hide. Run Yu instructed Liu Ying to take a position in ambush and told Xu Feng he would stay with Jin Mi to protect her. Xu Feng reminded Run Yu to also protect himself.
Jin Mi continued to plant the lingzhi, determined to avenge Rou Rou. As Qiong Qi finally emerged from its cave, Xuan Shou and Chi Shou, eager to claim credit, rushed forward with the Demon Dagger but were quickly injured by the beast. Liu Ying, Xu Feng, and Run Yu joined the fray. Jin Mi spotted the dropped Demon Dagger and dashed to retrieve it.
As Qiong Qi lunged at her, she instinctively flung a handful of cactus thorns mixed with pollen into its eyes, temporarily blinding it. With Qiong Qi disoriented, the three immortals worked together to subdue it. Guided by Run Yu’s incantation, Jin Mi successfully wielded the Demon Dagger, purifying Qiong Qi of its demonic nature. Afterward, Jin Mi, still believing she was poisoned by Qiong Qi's blood, tearfully bade farewell, asking Xu Feng to apologize to Chief Peony on her behalf.
Xu Feng, relieved, reassured her that the Demon Dagger had purged all the toxins from her. Proud of her accomplishment, Jin Mi exclaimed how amazing she was. Xu Feng then sealed Qiong Qi within the Melding Soul Cauldron using his Nine Luminaries True Fire, intending to bring it back to the Heaven Realm for the Heavenly Emperor to execute with the "turned to ashes" punishment.
He explained that since Qiong Qi's escape was clearly not an accident, leaving the Melding Soul Cauldron in the Demon Realm, even with an added fire seal, would be pointless. Liu Ying pressed them on who they suspected. Xu Feng and Run Yu admitted they had a strong suspect but no concrete proof and would reveal the name once the investigation concluded.
Run Yu then departed to resume his night duty, reminding Xu Feng to handle the King of Yan City carefully and to rest, as he too had been struck by Qiong Qi. Xu Feng asked him not to disclose the injury to their parents. Soon after, the King of Yan City arrived, horrified to find his son, Xuan Shou, gravely wounded.
