The Heavenly Emperor confronted Run Yu, accusing him of using powerful water magic to harm Xu Feng during his Nirvana, citing his presence near Qiwu Palace and his duty to guard the Northern Heavenly Gate that night. Run Yu confessed he did go to Qiwu Palace, but it was to pursue a powerful black-clad assailant, intending to protect Xu Feng. He explained that the assailant was proficient in magic but not interested in prolonged combat, escaping after a few rounds.
Run Yu added that he left after briefly informing Lord Liaoyuan not to disturb Xu Feng's crucial Nirvana process. The Heavenly Empress remained skeptical, but Run Yu insisted he could not have harmed Xu Feng because his water magic was incompatible with the Nirvana flames. He also presented a burn injury he sustained from the assailant, emphasizing that the attacker must have been fearless of fire, suggesting a formidable and unknown enemy.
The Heavenly Emperor expressed distress over Run Yu's injuries. Unbeknownst to them, Jin Mi finally understood that the "crow" she saved was actually a burnt phoenix, a divine bird. This revelation immediately sparked her interest in its potential to provide abundant magic power. Meanwhile, Xu Feng learned from Lord Liaoyuan that Run Yu had been summoned by the Heavenly Emperor and Empress for questioning and was being blamed. Xu Feng immediately rushed to the palace to clear Run Yu's name.
Upon his arrival, Xu Feng bowed to his parents, and his mother expressed profound relief and concern. Xu Feng then explained that during his Nirvana, he was attacked by an ice sleet weapon, which caused him to fall into a desolate wilderness. He spent several days there, pursuing the culprit, which accounted for his delay in returning. He apologized for causing worry but adamantly stated that Run Yu was completely innocent of the attack.
Xu Feng asserted that he had already uncovered some clues and was confident the truth would soon come to light. The Heavenly Emperor was heartened to see the brothers' mutual care and trust. The Heavenly Empress reminded the Heavenly Emperor of his promise to establish Xu Feng as Crown Prince upon his safe return. At that moment, a messenger arrived with news that Xu Feng had single-handedly intimidated and driven back 100,000 demon troops from Lethe.
Delighted by this "epoch-making feat," the Heavenly Emperor offered Xu Feng any reward. However, Xu Feng humbly declined, stating that as the commander of the five heavenly armies, defending the realm and repelling invaders was merely his duty. He cautioned that the demon army's retreat was a temporary ruse, and the King of Yan City would undoubtedly return.
Xu Feng then excused himself to prepare for ongoing battle, leaving the Heavenly Empress visibly enraged by his refusal of the prestigious title. Soon after, Xu Feng, having had the ice poison cleared from his body by Lord Liaoyuan, rushed to Xuanji Palace to help Run Yu with the flame poison he had sustained.
Xu Feng explained that due to their conflicting water and fire natures, he could only help to clear some of the fire poison, warning that further intervention might worsen Run Yu's condition. Run Yu, though grateful, suggested Xu Feng preserve his own magical prowess.
Run Yu then questioned why Xu Feng risked coming to his aid despite the inherent dangers, to which Xu Feng responded that he rushed to his defense, not even changing his clothes, to prevent Run Yu from being wrongly accused. Run Yu expressed his profound thanks for Xu Feng's loyalty. Xu Feng, observing Run Yu's considerable power, acknowledged that the true assailant must be exceptionally strong. Run Yu inquired about the precise events of Xu Feng's Nirvana.
Xu Feng recounted how, at a critical moment, he felt his fire power dwindle, replaced by an icy cold that immobilized him. He was forced to use all his inner strength to break through his meridians and plunge into the cloud sea, escaping the attacker's notice. He knew nothing more. Run Yu found it peculiar that the attacker was adept in water magic yet impervious to Nirvana's flames.
He proposed a strategy: Xu Feng would publicly announce his intent to investigate, which would lull the culprit into a false sense of security, while Run Yu would secretly assist in the investigation to swiftly apprehend the true culprit and simultaneously vindicate himself. Xu Feng, in turn, advised Run Yu to hone his magic to avoid "dragging down the War God."
In Zifang Cloud Palace, the Heavenly Empress received a report that Xu Feng harbored no suspicions toward Run Yu and had even visited him to heal his wounds and reminisce. She expressed alarm, fearing that her "stupid child" would unwittingly cede the throne. She instructed her subordinates to keep a vigilant eye on Run Yu and report any unusual activity at once.
Jin Mi explored the Heavenly Palace, finding it rather unexceptional, save for the pervasive mist that obscured the ground and made paths difficult to discern. She attempted to pluck some of the lush-looking flowers, only to discover they would dissolve into smoke upon her touch, leaving her frustrated and pondering why even Xu Feng's courtyard lacked real flowers. Her attention was then drawn to a small, sleeping fox-like creature.
As she affectionately touched it, the beast transformed into a handsome, red-robed young man, who dramatically declared himself "harassed." Jin Mi introduced herself as a "half-fairy" and recounted her "saviour" connection to Xu Feng. Soon after, Xu Feng arrived, addressing the man as "Uncle Moon Immortal," revealing him to be his paternal uncle. Moon Immortal, intrigued by Jin Mi, offered her a red string, advising her to tie it around Xu Feng's ankle to ensure a smooth romantic path.
Xu Feng admonished his uncle for his excessive generosity with his magical red strings, which Moon Immortal playfully countered by reminiscing about Xu Feng's childhood, when he would roll around in Moon Immortal's red string collection. Moon Immortal, finding Jin Mi delightful, proposed that Xu Feng take her as a mistress, an idea Xu Feng dismissed. Ultimately, finding Xu Feng's palace dull, Jin Mi readily accepted Moon Immortal's invitation to visit his House of Marriage.
At the House of Marriage, Jin Mi saw various petitions for matchmaking. She then asked Moon Immortal if he knew of a Great Golden Immortal who could resurrect her friend Rou Rou, who had been reduced to her original plant form. Moon Immortal explained that reversing death was beyond even the Heavenly Emperor's power but encouraged her to stay in the Heaven Realm, as cultivating more magic power was her only hope of finding a solution.
Resolved to save her friend, Jin Mi decided to stay. She then asked Moon Immortal to help her gather flowers for honey, explaining that the Heavenly Palace's flowers would vanish when touched, seemingly "bullying" her due to her low magical prowess. Moon Immortal revealed a millennia-old history: the current Heavenly Emperor and the late Floral Immortal had a tumultuous relationship, culminating in the Floral Immortal's wrathful destruction of all real flora in the Heaven Realm.
To remedy this, the Heavenly Emperor later conjured countless artificial flowers from clouds, which would dissipate if picked. Jin Mi was dismayed, realizing this meant she couldn't collect honey. Moon Immortal then tried to enlighten her about love, framing their saga as a "classic love story." However, Jin Mi remained fixated on whether love could enhance her magical power.
Exasperated, Moon Immortal lent her his treasured "Tianxiang Secret book" on love, but Jin Mi found its illustrations "hideous" and "uninteresting," her sole interest remaining on increasing her magic power. One evening, while enjoying the scenery by a pond, Jin Mi encountered Run Yu and his spiritual beast, the Beast of Dreams, which Run Yu affectionately called his "deer." The beast acted aggressively towards Jin Mi.
After Run Yu apologized, Jin Mi, mistaking his role for an animal tender, complimented the "deer's" majestic tail and robust appearance. Drawing parallels to figures like Sun Wukong and Zhang Guolao who rose from humble beginnings as animal caretakers, she optimistically declared Run Yu's future "bright." Amused, Run Yu introduced himself, and Jin Mi, sensing his loneliness, gifted him a broken red string, wishing him companionship.
Back at the House of Marriage, Jin Mi ingeniously used Moon Immortal's discarded red strings to conjure exquisite, fragrant flowers, drawing a long line of eager celestial maidens. Liao Ting, Xu Feng's young attendant, also sought a flower. In exchange, he offered Jin Mi two rare vermilion bird eggs, explaining that while one egg, taking 800 years to form, would grant 100 years of magical prowess, consuming two together would grant a total of 300 years.
Eager to rapidly increase her powers, Jin Mi devoured both eggs but was instead overcome by agonizing stomach pain. She frantically sought out Moon Immortal, but before he could assess her condition, Xu Feng arrived and swiftly carried her away. Xu Feng explained that Jin Mi, having an inherently cold, water-nourished (grape) constitution, had dangerously consumed the intensely fire-natured vermilion bird eggs.
This unfortunate combination had not only failed to grant her power but had tragically cost her 300 years of magical prowess. He admonished her for her "stupidity," stating that she narrowly escaped turning into smoke, and instructed his attendant to prevent her from consuming any more unusual items. That night, sensing Jin Mi was in danger, Yan You covertly entered Qiwu Palace. He found Jin Mi restless in her sleep, tormented by a nightmare about Qiong Qi harming Rou Rou.
Xu Feng confronted Yan You, who mockingly claimed to be a "thief" specializing in "pretty ladies" and boasted of their "thousand-year-old friendship." Suspicious and detecting Jin Mi's scent on Yan You, Xu Feng demanded an explanation. Yan You clarified that their relationship was simply "creditor and debtor": Jin Mi owed him 1,000 years of magical prowess, which she repaid in 100-year increments each century, creating a "telepathic connection."
Irritated, Xu Feng dismissed Yan You's claim that Jin Mi would casually give away her magic. To end their "century-long agreement," Xu Feng immediately paid off the 100 years of magical prowess Jin Mi owed. He sternly warned Yan You against any further "flirtatious shenanigans" and declared that as Jin Mi was now under the protection of Qiwu Palace, he would not stand idly by if Yan You dared to intrude again.
