Legend of Zang Hai Episode 38 Recap
> Legend of Zang Hai Recap
Zhao Bingwen confessed everything to Zang Hai—he intended to kill him to silence him. Gao Ming was heartbroken but powerless. Zhao Bingwen promised to leave Zang Hai’s body intact. Gao Ming only wanted to cook one last meal for Zang Hai so he could leave this world with a full stomach. Zhao Bingwen readily agreed. Gao Ming prepared Zang Hai’s favorite dishes and had them delivered to the prison. Zang Hai quickly finished the meal.
Zhao Bingwen personally came to the prison to oversee the execution, carrying out the sentence of "tie jia guan". Gao Ming hid nearby and witnessed Zang Hai being tortured, feeling as if his heart were being torn apart. Zhao Bingwen ordered more punishment, and soon Zang Hai stopped breathing. Zhao Bingwen confirmed his death and told Gao Ming to take care of the body. Prince Yongrong sent someone to see Zhao Bingwen, so Zhao Bingwen had to leave first.
In a daze, Zang Hai arrived in another world where he saw his sister Yuenü and their mother. Overwhelmed with emotion, Zang Hai was told by his mother that he did not belong there and must return to the human world. Zang Hai didn’t want to go back, but Kuai Duo suddenly called out to him, urging him to live on. His mother and Yuenü also came to bid him farewell, as did his fellow disciples.
With great sorrow, Zang Hai left. Thanks to the desperate efforts of Gao Ming, Guan Feng, and the others, Zang Hai was finally pulled back from the brink of death. Earlier, Xiang Antu had gone to Gao Ming for help. Gao Ming had added a sedative to the food, successfully fooling Zhao Bingwen. Luckily, Prince Yongrong’s people came to summon Zhao Bingwen away, or Gao Ming wouldn’t have been able to save Zang Hai.
Zhao Bingwen imprisoned Prince Yongrong in his own residence. He sent his steward Shen Yong to deliver a message to Zang Hai: before the emperor's death, he kept calling out Zang Hai’s name, and he admitted that Zang Hai had been right. From Zhao Bingwen, Zang Hai learned that he planned to go to Dongxia to build his own army. Determined to stop him, Zang Hai decided to head to Dongxia. Xiang Antu insisted on going with him.
Gao Ming quickly prepared a carriage, and after Zang Hai said goodbye to Shi Lei and the others, they left the capital. Gao Ming decided to escort Zang Hai and Xiang Antu outside the city and have them travel with a merchant caravan to Dongxia. He would stay behind to keep a close watch on Zhao Bingwen. To escape the city, Gao Ming had Zang Hai and Xiang Antu pose as plague victims.
The guards at the gate insisted on inspecting the carriage. Gao Ming suddenly coughed up blood, and the guards, fearing he was also infected, let them through. Gao Ming handed all his savings to Zang Hai before seeing them off. From a distance, the Eighth Young Master saw them safely leave and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Zang Hai later found a letter Gao Ming had left behind, only to learn that he had drunk poisoned tea served by Zhao Bingwen. Knowing he wouldn’t live much longer, Gao Ming had lied to Zang Hai. Zang Hai wanted to go back and save him, but Gao Ming staggered a few steps before collapsing and dying on the spot. Devastated, Zang Hai was consumed with grief but chose to press on to avoid further complications.
Zang Hai and Xiang Antu traveled day and night, eating and sleeping in the open along the way. Xiang Antu wanted to seek news from her newly enthroned sister, but Zang Hai was worried her sister might be wary and suggested they stay near the royal court first. They soon arrived at the foot of Mount Yuren, where Xiang Antu made a vow. The newly crowned Queen of Dongxia, Ming Yan Yinshu, came in person to receive Xiang Antu.
She had received a letter from Great Yong beforehand and knew that Xiang Antu and Zang Hai had secretly come to Dongxia. Suspecting that Xiang Antu was after the throne, she ordered that Xiang Antu and Zang Hai be taken back to the royal court. Zang Hai was thrown into the celestial prison, and Xiang Antu, out of spite, refused to eat or drink.
Ming Yan Yinshu prepared a generous dowry for her and ordered her to marry the prince of Moersa from the recently subdued Eastern Sea tribe. Xiang Antu firmly refused and even threatened to die rather than comply. Ming Yan Yinshu then ordered one of Zang Hai’s fingers to be cut off every day until Xiang Antu agreed. Helpless, Xiang Antu was forced to accept the marriage.
