Lin Qiaosong used both tough and soft tactics on Li Chengda. Li Chengda vowed not to yield even unto death. Lin Qiaosong brought out his wife and children to threaten him, and Li Chengda had no choice but to surrender. Yu Shiqing guessed that Shen Tunan's capital chain was insufficient, so he called Shen Tunan and advised him to use the Central Bank building as collateral.

Shen Tunan still had the trump card, Gao Feng; as long as Gao Feng confessed their act of short selling and buying long using exchange rates, Yu Shiqing would be held accountable by the Nanjing government. Shen Tunan was determined to acquire Tongshang Bank and guaranteed that Yu Shiqing's interests would remain unchanged. Yu Shiqing had no choice but to compromise and asked Shen Tunan to mediate.

Shen Tunan successfully acquired fifty-one percent of Tongshang Bank's shares using Kunpeng Industry. Wei Ruolai suggested using the newspaper to release false news about gangsters shorting Xingxia Bank, thereby bringing Xingxia Bank into their fold as well. Shen Tunan praised him highly. Zhang Mingquan came to settle accounts with Shen Tunan, but Shen Tunan exposed the unsavory dealings between him and Gao Feng face-to-face, leaving Zhang Mingquan speechless. Wei Ruochuan came to meet Li Chengda.

Li Chengda got out of the car and was injured by stray bullets. Wei Ruochuan managed to escape after much effort. Shen Jinzhen reported back to Xu Nuo. Xu Nuo assigned her to keep a close eye on the movements of large funds at the Central Bank.

Lin Qiaosong's carefully planned operation failed, and he was furious. His assistant felt that Shen Jinzhen had delayed his operation, but Lin Qiaosong didn't take it to heart. Shen Jinzhen asked Shen Tunan about the flow of funds in the bank, and Shen Tunan answered truthfully. Wei Ruochuan managed to find Wei Ruolai. He was dying from excessive blood loss.

He told Wei Ruolai to take his seal to the bank to retrieve a box and also told him to take the expired Shen Bao to the meeting point. Wei Ruochuan bravely sacrificed himself due to his severe injuries. Wei Ruolai was heartbroken and wished he were dead. He buried Wei Ruochuan overnight. Wei Ruolai was overwhelmed with grief over Wei Ruochuan's death. He came to the bank early in the morning to retrieve the box Wei Ruochuan had deposited.

Inside was a box full of gold bars. Wei Ruolai was stunned into silence.
