They attacked and injured people. Rickshaw pullers and Japanese residents engaged in fierce clashes.

The police arrived upon hearing the news and arrested the citizens and rickshaw pullers. Shen Tunan returned from a meeting in Nanjing and conveyed the instructions from higher-ups to Deng Ze. The Nanjing government fully accepted the conditions proposed by the Japanese side, and the Japanese side promised a ceasefire.
