Su Cishu and Shen Jinzhen rushed to the hospital. Wei Ruolai, Deng Ze, Huang Congyun, and others were outside the emergency room. The medical staff did their best to rescue him, and Shen Tunan finally turned the corner and was out of danger. He was still in a coma due to excessive blood loss. The doctor suggested a blood transfusion. Shen Jinzhen voluntarily offered to donate blood for him.

Su Cishu knew that Shen Jinzhen was severely anemic and worried that her body couldn't handle it. Wei Ruolai didn't know his blood type, so he immediately went to get tested and found out he had O type blood. After donating a little blood to Shen Tunan, Shen Jinzhen's face turned pale and she broke out in a cold sweat. The doctor forcibly stopped her.

Wei Ruolai was willing to donate blood for Shen Tunan, so the doctor began to draw his blood. Su Cishu stayed by Shen Tunan's side every step of the way. Shen Tunan finally woke up. Su Cishu told him to rest well and not worry about work matters anymore. Thanks to the unremitting efforts of Shen Tunan, Wei Ruolai, and Huang Congyun, the Central Bank finally reclaimed the customs tariff custody right.

Wei Ruolai felt deeply relieved when he saw the news about the customs reform published in the newspaper. Shen Jinzhen came to the hospital to visit Shen Tunan. She saw Wei Ruolai downstairs and thanked him for donating blood to Shen Tunan. Wei Ruolai was willing to work for Shen Tunan wholeheartedly; he knew that what Shen Tunan was doing was a great deed beneficial to the country and the people. In fact, Shen Tunan's gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

He had exhausted himself trying to reclaim the customs tariff custody right, but with little effect. When he was rushing to the bank, he was being pursued and was forced to shoot himself to get injured. He knew that Kang Shaojie had a long-term suite at the Cathay Hotel, so he booked a room there in advance, hung a red flag inside, and then reported to Kang Shaojie that there were Communists in the hotel.

Kang Shaojie sent Lin Qiaosong and his men to stake out that room. Shen Tunan hid directly in that room. The assassins hired by Zhang Mingquan arrived shortly after. Lin Qiaosong mistakenly thought they were Communists and wildly shot at them. The assassins suffered heavy casualties, and Lin Qiaosong took the only survivor back for interrogation. In his desperation, Shen Tunan used a self-inflicted injury scheme to gain the support of most people.

Huang Congyun advised him not to gamble with his life again. Shen Tunan told him to keep this matter a secret from Wei Ruolai. He felt it wasn't secure enough and wanted to reclaim the customs tariff custody right as soon as possible, preferably by having Chiang Kai-shek personally finalize the matter at this time. Shen Tunan asked Huang Congyun to find a way to make this incident widely known.

Huang Congyun immediately went to contact the "Nanjing Daily" to report on Shen Tunan being attacked. Wei Ruolai and Shen Jinzhen came to visit Shen Tunan. Shen Tunan highly praised Wei Ruolai's speech at the voting meeting. He also asked Shen Jinzhen to take Wei Ruolai out to eat to thank them both for saving his life. Shen Jinzhen took Wei Ruolai to a high-end Western restaurant and ordered a large table of dishes to treat him.

Lin Qiaosong came to the hospital to see Shen Tunan. Through various visits and investigations, he suspected that Shen Tunan's injury was self-inflicted. Shen Tunan smiled but said nothing. Lin Qiaosong was frustrated under Kang Shaojie and asked Shen Tunan to help him find a good position with Mr. Song. Shen Tunan readily agreed and also gave him some pointers, hinting that the mastermind behind this shooting was Yu Shiqing.

When Zhang Mingquan heard that the assassin had been arrested, he worried about being implicated and immediately went to Yu Shiqing for help. Yu Shiqing knew that assassinating Shen Tunan would anger the Nanjing government, so he did his best to distance himself from Zhang Mingquan and told him to look out for himself. Zhang Mingquan was so scared he knelt down and begged for mercy. Yu Shiqing suggested that he bribe the assassin.

Shen Jinzhen invited a violinist to add atmosphere. She and Wei Ruolai drank and talked, finding the conversation increasingly stimulating. Li Chengda had a rare right ventricular injury. He survived after being shot, but was in a deep coma due to excessive blood loss. When Lin Qiaosong heard about this, he rushed to the ward immediately. He suspected that Li Chengda was faking his coma, so he burned his arm with a cigarette butt. Li Chengda did not move.

Lin Qiaosong asked the doctor to save Li Chengda at all costs. After the meal, Shen Jinzhen played a "Requiem". Wei Ruolai couldn't help but think of his deceased brother Wei Ruochuan, and his heart was filled with mixed emotions. Shen Jinzhen kindly advised him and explained that Wei Ruochuan's death was heavier than Mount Tai. Kang Shaojie brought his men to arrest Zhang Mingquan.

Zhang Mingquan offered him a large sum of money as a bribe, but Kang Shaojie didn't accept it. Yu Shiqing stepped forward to plead for Zhang Mingquan. Kang Shaojie agreed to spare Zhang Mingquan, only asking Yu Shiqing to help introduce him to the eldest Miss Song. Yu Shiqing happily agreed and asked Kang Shaojie to provide convenience for his opium business. The two immediately hit it off. Lin Qiaosong severely tortured the assassin, forcing him to reveal the mastermind.

Kang Shaojie called Lin Qiaosong out, sent people to silence the assassin, and pushed all the blame onto Lin Qiaosong, insisting that the assassin committed suicide out of fear of punishment. Lin Qiaosong wanted to find a forensic doctor to perform an autopsy, but Kang Shaojie firmly disagreed and yelled at him. Shen Jinzhen learned from Wei Ruolai that Shen Tunan's next step was to acquire Xingxia Bank. She immediately reported this to Xu Nuo.

The organization was also preparing to take action against Xingxia Bank. Xu Nuo sent Shen Jinzhen to closely monitor Shen Tunan's every move.
