Lu Yi, having rescued Xie Xiao from the water, struggled to bring him back, as Xie Xiao was severely wounded. Worried search parties, including Shangguan Xi, Lin Ling, Wu Shouxu, and General Yu, were growing desperate. Just then, Lu Yi returned, carrying an unconscious Xie Xiao. Both were injured and immediately taken away for treatment.
Later, as Lu Yi rested, he dreamt of a little girl playing in a grand estate, a memory that had been dormant for over a decade. Xie Xiao, though seriously hurt, was fortunately not in life-threatening condition. Outside, a commotion indicated that General Qi was preparing his army to hunt down Japanese pirates. Lu Yi learned that this group of pirates was unexpectedly heading towards Hangzhou.
Alarmed that Yuan Jinxia was still there, Lu Yi, despite his injuries, insisted on going. Wu Shouxu quickly sent Assistant Commander Qi to follow Lu Yi, fearing he might rush into danger alone. Meanwhile, Lin Ling informed Shangguan Xi that Lu Yi had already departed for Hangzhou. Shangguan Xi, concerned about Yang Yue, was reassured by Lin Ling that Xie Xiao was stable and she could go.
Lu Yi, accompanied by Cen Fu, traveled through the night, his only hope being Yuan Jinxia's safety. In Hangzhou, Mrs. Qi and Yuan Jinxia had endured a sleepless night, preparing for the inevitable assault. The Japanese pirate leader, referred to as Deputy Chief, was ready to attack, deciding not to wait for Wang Mazi's signal. The pirates advanced on Hangzhou, but Mrs. Qi had already resolved to defend the city to the death.
She ordered the cannons to fire, using their precious eight cannonballs in the first wave to deter the enemy. On the city walls, everyone fought fiercely, with Min bravely delivering arrows to the soldiers. The initial assault was repelled, frustrating the Deputy Chief, who then sent two men to a vantage point for a closer inspection of the city's defenses. Yuan Jinxia, holding her sword, wondered about Lu Yi's well-being.
She felt no regret for staying, proud to stand with Mrs. Qi against the pirates. However, the gunpowder was depleted, leaving them only with hand-to-hand combat if the pirates attacked again. As fear spread among the defenders, Yuan Jinxia stepped forward, reminding them of their previous success against overwhelming odds. She rallied their spirits, asserting that with Mrs. Qi's guidance, and even with just swords, stones, and bricks, they could protect Hangzhou as long as a glimmer of hope remained.
Inspired, Min and the others renewed their resolve. The pirate scouts, observing the city, reported back that most of the defenders were women and children, with only a dozen actual soldiers. Realizing it was a mere scare tactic, the Deputy Chief ordered an all-out assault. The battle raged within Hangzhou. Lu Yi and General Qi, having learned of the dire situation, hastened their pace. As the pirates scaled the city walls, Min was tragically struck by a sword.
Yuan Jinxia quickly arranged for her to be taken back for treatment. Mrs. Qi, Yuan Jinxia, and Yang Yue fought alongside the elderly and infirm on the walls. When the Deputy Chief's forces breached the city gate, the defenders rushed down to meet them, engaging in a brutal, bloody conflict. Just as despair loomed, General Qi and Lu Yi arrived with reinforcements. Lu Yi dismounted and joined the fight, his eyes meeting Yuan Jinxia's across the chaotic battlefield.
A moment of poignant recognition passed between them before Lu Yi pulled her into a comforting embrace amidst the smoke and conflict. General Qi captured the Deputy Chief and then reunited with his wife, Mrs. Qi, who confirmed that Hangzhou had been held until the very last moment. In Yuan Jinxia's arms, Lu Yi finally collapsed, revealing the serious injuries he had sustained.
Elsewhere, Shangguan Xi was greatly relieved to find Yang Yue unharmed, and the two shared an emotional embrace. The Emperor was delighted by the great victory at Cen Harbor. Lu Ting, Lu Yi's father, was relieved upon hearing of his son's safety. The Emperor, pondering General Yu's past actions, was assured by Lu Ting that General Yu harbored no disloyal intentions. The Emperor then commanded Lu Ting to recover the military funds embezzled by Liao Wenhua.
Meanwhile, Yan Shifan issued orders to eliminate Chunyu Min and the captured Deputy Chief, and to secure the release of Luo Wenlong, who was in Mrs. Qi's custody. Lu Yi remained unconscious, causing Yuan Jinxia great worry. Lin Ling reassured her that he was simply exhausted from his long journey and deep in sleep. At the same time, Liao Wenhua desperately sought help from Yan Song, who advised him to return to his hometown to avoid further trouble.
Eventually, Lu Yi awoke to find Yuan Jinxia asleep by his bedside. He tenderly stroked her face, waking her. Lu Yi's gaze conveyed his profound relief and fear of losing her, admitting he had rushed back solely out of worry for her safety. He confessed he would sacrifice his own life for her, deeply moving Yuan Jinxia. Lu Yi then asked her to hum a tune.
Yuan Jinxia obliged, singing a childhood nursery rhyme she used to hum: "One, two, three. Three, two, one. Seven stars shine in the sky. The seven stars show us directions." As Lin Ling arrived with medicine, she froze at the doorway upon hearing the familiar melody.
