Yuan Jinxia confronted Min'er, questioning her about the knife she carried, which appeared to be used for Kungfu. Min'er confessed the knife was given to her by Yan Shifan. Yuan Jinxia explained that if Yan Shifan truly wanted to kill her, he could have hired any assassin; instead, he chose Min'er, who knew nothing of Kungfu.

Yuan Jinxia deduced that Yan Shifan's real motive was to use Min'er, Lu Yi's cousin, to distract him in the military camp, knowing that if Lu Yi left without permission, he would be seen as defying His Majesty's order. Min'er, however, defiantly declared that as long as she could survive, she would kill anyone she was ordered to, even her own cousin.

Yuan Jinxia slapped Min'er, reminding her that Lu Yi was her only remaining relative and had always treated her with kindness, even after she had set Yuan Jinxia up to marry Sima Chang'an and found Min'er a place to stay when her family was in trouble. Yuan Jinxia offered to pretend nothing happened, but warned Min'er to seriously consider her future and urged her to take control of her own fate.

She also cautioned Min'er that if she tried to kill her again, Yuan Jinxia would not show mercy. In the military camp, Lu Yi presented his findings from studying war operation files for the past six months, noting the Cen Harbor's geographic advantages and the low ammunition consumption in recent battles. He concluded that the remaining ammunition couldn't sustain Mao Haifeng's forces for much longer, suggesting a secret passage for supplies.

General Yu Dajong confirmed that he had previously suspected a secret passage in the mountains when he encountered Mao Haifeng in Yangzhou. General Yu explained that upon his arrival in Zhoushan, he had already set up barriers to cut off supply routes, blocking all land routes and controlling all possible sea ports.

General Qi suggested a tactic to feign low morale by sending small groups of soldiers to confront the enemy daily while the main army remained put, hoping to trick Mao Haifeng into dropping his guard. General Yu expressed concern about His Majesty's impatience and the risk of being reported, which could lead to investigation or losing his job.

Lu Yi reassured him, promising to report the truth to His Majesty upon his return to the Capital and emphasizing that he had no intention of badmouthing anyone, especially since they had no prior conflicts and were united against a common enemy for the sake of the citizens. General Yu appreciated Lu Yi's sentiment, stating it would motivate him and General Qi further. Meanwhile, Yang Yue brought a wounded Yang Chengwan back to the inn where Yuan Jinxia was staying.

Yang Chengwan had been stabbed by Japanese pirates on the way, but Aunt Lin had confirmed the wound was not fatal. Yuan Jinxia was deeply worried, having learned that Yang Chengwan had locked himself in his room without eating or drinking after she had left. She apologized profusely to her master. Taking Yang Yue aside, Yuan Jinxia lightly struck him, explaining that she was punishing him on Yang Chengwan's behalf since her master had not.

Yang Yue accepted the blows, and Yuan Jinxia noticed his facial scar was fading, which Aunt Lin had promised would completely disappear. Yuan Jinxia then took Lin Ling's prescription to buy herbs for Yang Chengwan, offering Yang Yue a chance to rest. On her way, Yuan Jinxia spotted a familiar face: Wang Mazi, a known pirate. She discreetly followed him, observing him buying flaky pastries.

Yuan Jinxia asked a vendor for directions and learned that Wang Mazi's path led to the Qingbo River. She also inquired about the local fish market, learning it opened very early in the morning, before 5 AM. Noticing Wang Mazi was carrying a rattle-drum, Yuan Jinxia deduced that he might be living with his wife and children.

At the military camp, Shangguan Xi and Xie Xiao arrived, introducing themselves as disciples of the Southern Shaolin Monastery, sent by their master to aid in the fight against Japanese pirates. General Yu expressed his gratitude. Following them were Gai Shu and Lin Ling, who introduced themselves as doctors from the Pharma King Valley, offering their services to treat the wounded soldiers. General Yu welcomed them warmly and immediately directed them to the injured.

Back in the strategy meeting, Xie Xiao, despite his companions discussing land-based tactics, boasted about his swimming abilities, claiming to be unmatched. He proposed a dangerous plan, suggesting they modify a ship with mines below its deck, turning it into a "super bomb." He recalled that he had made the "ghost ship" Lu Yi encountered near Yangzhou, which used magnets to pull other ships off course.

His idea was to lure the enemy's ships out of the harbor and detonate the mines at striking distance, destroying their fleet. Shangguan Xi and General Yu expressed strong reservations, citing the danger and the risk of losing a valuable ship. They questioned what would happen if the Japanese didn't take the bait or if the mines were ignited at the wrong time. However, Lu Yi found the plan feasible.

He proposed combining it with their original tactic of feigning surrender to lower the Japanese's guard. He believed that when suspicious ships approached, the Japanese would inevitably send out their entire fleet to investigate, providing the perfect moment for detonation. The challenge was the lack of ignitable underwater mines. Lu Yi suggested putting dynamite in the cabin, and when General Yu noted the igniter would have no escape, Lu Yi declared he would handle the mines himself.

Xie Xiao agreed to renovate the ship within ten days, but Lu Yi pressed him to complete it in three days, given the urgent situation. General Qi offered his expertise in incendiary weapons to help Lu Yi create more powerful mines. Lu Yi accepted, assigning General Qi to assist with the mines and Xie Xiao to focus on ship modification.

Back at the inn, Yuan Jinxia rushed to Yang Yue, revealing her encounter with Wang Mazi and her conviction that he was a pirate, recalling their previous meetings in Longdan Village and a hidden pirate village where Wu Shouxu's foster son's body was investigated. Yang Yue suggested reporting it to Mr. Wu, but Yuan Jinxia hesitated, fearing Mr. Wu wouldn't believe them without evidence. She suggested they first discover Wang Mazi's true purpose in Hangzhou.

She explained her deduction that Wang Mazi likely frequented the fish market based on his pungent fish smell and scales on his shoes, and that his rattle-drum indicated he lived with his wife and children. She speculated he was purposefully hiding. Meanwhile, at the military camp, Lin Ling observed Gai Shu treating injured soldiers, remarking on how much he had changed from his past, when he was obsessed with studying poisons.

Gai Shu admitted that his past mischievous behavior was partly due to his youth and mostly to vex Lin Ling. Now, he only wished for her safety and peace. He revealed he had been worried about her every day since she left Maple Col, fearing she would be caught by Yan Shifan. Lin Ling, however, sighed, lamenting that despite her narrow escapes from Yan Shifan, she still hadn't found her sister's daughter, a burden on her heart.

Gai Shu promised to help her search for her niece after the war. Yuan Jinxia followed Wang Mazi to his residence, confirming he lived with his wife and child. That night, Yuan Jinxia, dressed in black, stealthily blew narcotic powder into Wang Mazi's home, then entered to search. She found a recently repainted, damp wall, deducing a hidden compartment by the bed for its confidential contents. Inside, she discovered a large trunk filled with gunpowder.

Separately, Yang Yue, disguised as a fisherman, shadowed Wang Mazi. Yang Yue was initially given narcotic powder by Yuan Jinxia as a last resort if he was in danger. He observed that Wang Mazi did not seem interested in fishing throughout the night. Just before dawn, a boat from the opposite bank approached, with its owner waving a lit lamp in a circle. Wang Mazi responded by doing the same with his own lamp before the boat departed.

Yang Yue, though initially confused by this secret signal, pretended not to notice. Yuan Jinxia, upon hearing Yang Yue's report, remained perplexed by the meaning of the lamp signal. At the shipyard, Xie Xiao worked diligently on modifying the ship while Lu Yi watched intently, much to Xie Xiao's annoyance. Xie Xiao complained about Lu Yi's hovering, urging him to either help or leave.

Lu Yi responded by inquiring about the progress of Xie Xiao's ship modifications and even the underwater mines, prompting Xie Xiao to retort that Lu Yi should focus on his own task. The next morning, Yang Yue and Yuan Jinxia observed Wang Mazi exchanging signals and supervising the delivery of a large trunk, which Yuan Jinxia recognized as the one filled with ammunition she had discovered in his house.

Yang Yue impulsively wanted to apprehend them immediately, but Yuan Jinxia calmly stopped him, emphasizing that they were outnumbered and needed to use their wits. Elsewhere, a scout reported to General Yu Dajong that a group of 400 to 500 pirates was approaching the Cen Harbor, expected to arrive in five days. General Yu recognized this as the Japanese growing impatient, aiming for a decisive, multi-pronged attack.

Lu Yi saw this as an opportunity, but the imminent arrival of reinforcements meant Xie Xiao's three-day deadline for the ship modification was crucial. Shangguan Xi stepped in, promising to help Xie Xiao ensure the ship was completed within that timeframe. Yuan Jinxia and Yang Yue watched Wang Mazi leave his home. Yuan Jinxia declared her new target was Wang Mazi's wife, a decision Yang Yue found problematic as it violated Department Six's rules against harming criminals' families.

Yuan Jinxia admitted it was "not quite above board" but justified it as a necessary measure given the exceptional circumstances. They then entered Wang Mazi's home, identifying themselves as constables from Department Six and stating they had received an anonymous report about hidden ammunition. However, Wang Mazi's wife, who turned out to be Japanese, claimed not to understand them. Yuan Jinxia then forced her way into a hidden room.

Inside, she initially found boxes containing only toys and clothes, but upon forcing Wang Mazi's wife away from another trunk she was protecting, Yuan Jinxia discovered it indeed contained firearms. Later, Mao Haifeng received news that the Ming army had launched an attack but had suddenly retreated mid-battle. He decided against pursuing them, asserting that they must learn to be patient and wait until they were 100% ready for a surprise attack.

He ordered Wang Mazi to ensure everything was sorted out and ready for his command. Meanwhile, Yuan Jinxia and Yang Yue sought out Mr. Wu, only to be informed by his servant that he had left for the Cen Harbor after receiving an Imperial Edict. The servant, however, mentioned that Mrs. Qi, General Qi's wife, could speak Japanese. Yuan Jinxia and Yang Yue immediately went to Mrs. Qi's residence, greeted by a serious maid.

Yuan Jinxia complimented General Qi's battle formations, noting that Lu Yi had spoken highly of them. General Yu Dajong and Lu Yi later discussed a new Imperial Edict from His Majesty, which stripped Wu Shouxu and Yu Dajong of their titles but offered a chance for redemption if they could win the battle for the Cen Harbor. Lu Yi showed General Yu the large quantities of gunpowder and mines they had prepared.

Xie Xiao, trying to interfere with the mines, was quickly pulled away by Shangguan Xi, who warned him of the danger. Back at Mrs. Qi's home, Mrs. Qi interrogated Wang Mazi's wife, who maintained that her husband was a fisherman and claimed complete ignorance about the weapons, only knowing that her husband had brought the wooden trunk home a few days prior and told her not to touch it. She pleaded to be allowed to leave with her child.

Yuan Jinxia, seeing her distress, allowed her to rest with her child. Mrs. Qi then explained to Yuan Jinxia that it was a Japanese tradition for a woman not to question her husband's business.
