Yuan Jinxia complained to Yang Yue that her mother had dragged her to a blind date with the third son of the Yi family. Yang Yue laughed and teased her, suggesting she marry into the distinguished and well-educated family to save money. Jinxia argued that the sons of the Yi family were nerds and she would be bored to death.
She half-jokingly offered to tell her mother that she was already promised to Yang Yue, but he refused, teasing her about her snoring. As they were bickering, Lu Yi arrived, asking for Constable Yang Chengwan. Yang Yue promptly led the way, and Yuan Jinxia instinctively took Lu Yi's teacup. After Lu Yi walked away, Yuan Jinxia wondered why she, a constable of the Six Departments, had naturally stooped to serving him tea.
Meanwhile, the indulgent Yan Shifan was enjoying himself with beautiful women. He instructed his subordinate to send a message to Huang Yu, demanding the painting titled "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" before Huang Yu took office as the Director-general of the Northeast. Yan Shifan warned that just as he could promote Huang Yu, he could also cause his downfall. Lu Yi met with Yang Chengwan.
After some initial pleasantries, Yang Chengwan sent Yuan Jinxia and Yang Yue out of the room so he could speak with Lu Yi privately. However, the curious pair immediately began to eavesdrop. Aware of their presence, Yang Chengwan abruptly opened the door, causing them to stumble. He then sternly tasked them with gathering information about the ship and its passengers before dark, forcing them to leave. Undeterred, Jinxia soon persuaded Yang Yue to return and listen again.
This time, they overheard Yang Chengwan reminiscing with Lu Yi about old times, revealing that he was once an Embroidered Uniform Guard under Lu Yi’s father, Supreme Commander Lu Ting. Lu Yi conveyed his father's high praise for Yang Chengwan’s old skills and passed on Lu Ting's hope that he would return to the Embroidered Uniform Guards. Citing his age and a physical disability, Yang Chengwan declined, stating he had lost his talent and ambition.
Lu Yi advised him to take his time with the decision and then delivered a final, cryptic message from his father: "Dead is dead." The words visibly stirred painful memories for Yang Chengwan. As Lu Yi prepared to depart, he discovered Yuan Jinxia and Yang Yue hastily retreating from the door. The two were astonished to learn of Yang Chengwan's past, a fact he had never revealed, and were intensely curious about his reason for leaving the Embroidered Uniform Guards.
Lu Yi, observing their shocked expressions, simply commented on Department Six's penchant for eavesdropping before returning to his room. Unwilling to give up, Yuan Jinxia immediately chased after him, determined to uncover the truth. She relentlessly followed Lu Yi, praising her master's talent and offering to persuade him to return, all in an effort to get Lu Yi to reveal the reason for his departure.
When Lu Yi became impatient and closed his door, Jinxia brazenly sat outside, reflecting on his comment that "curiosity can kill a wild cat like you." Meanwhile, Liao Wenhua, Yan Song's godson, arrived to present a jade gift. He expressed his desire to return to his hometown in the Southeast with fame and serve as Censor-in-chief, a position that would soon be vacant. Yan Song indicated he was considering it, and Liao Wenhua thanked him profusely.
Outside Lu Yi's door, Yuan Jinxia grew hungry. She bought some pastries and tea from a cabin boy and ate them, offering some to Lu Yi. He merely opened his door, took the tea, and closed it again. Not long after, Lu Yi reopened the door, claiming there was a cockroach in his room and asking Yuan Jinxia to catch it before he left. Yuan Jinxia promptly began her hunt. Later, she was summoned by Yang Chengwan and severely reprimanded.
It turned out Lu Yi had complained about her prying, causing her to be punished. Had Yang Yue not intervened, she would have had to kneel all night. Yang Yue had already prepared paper and ink, dictating a repentance letter for her to write. As she wrote, she realized Lu Yi's room had been spotless and there was no cockroach; it was clearly a prank.
Her anger grew, and her handwriting became illegible as she inwardly cursed Lu Yi, vowing to make him pay. At that moment, Lu Yi found the cockroach corpse Yuan Jinxia had caught and deliberately left in his room and, disgusted, immediately ordered Cen Fu to remove it. Late that night, Lu Yi, dressed in black, infiltrated the room where the birthday gifts were stored, only to discover they had all vanished.
Wang Fangxing, the officer in charge of the gifts, quickly became aware of the theft and, without hesitation, ordered a search of Yuan Jinxia's room. He reasoned that she was an outsider who had paid particular attention to the gifts. Yuan Jinxia and Yang Yue refused to be falsely accused and fought back. In the shadows, an arrow was shot towards Jinxia, but Lu Yi appeared, blocked the arrow, and apprehended Wang Fangxing.
Upon learning Lu Yi's identity as the son of Supreme Commander Lu Ting, Wang Fangxing immediately cowered. Lu Yi, visibly angered, declared that while he could punish his own people, he would not tolerate anyone else harming her. Yuan Jinxia was momentarily stunned by Lu Yi's possessive remark "my people" until he instructed Wang Fangxing to lead them to the crime scene.
Yuan Jinxia confidently began her investigation but slipped on the waxy floor, landing face-first, much to Lu Yi's distaste. After sending Wang Fangxing away, Jinxia shared her deductions: the loud noises from moving the trunks suggested the thieves had nothing to fear, and the lack of combat signs, along with only the guards' footprints, indicated the thief was an insider who had drugged the guards. She concluded it was highly probable that Wang Fangxing had orchestrated the theft himself.
Later, Huang Yu presented the "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" painting to Yan Shifan, who decided to invite others to admire it. On the ship, Wang Fangxing assembled all his guards for Lu Yi and Yuan Jinxia to inspect. Jinxia examined each guard, noting that although they appeared strong, most were out of shape. However, she noticed one particular guard who seemed well-trained. Suddenly, a storm began.
As the crew rushed to secure the ship, an eerie, glowing vessel drifted into view. The crew panicked, crying out that it was the legendary ghost ship. Legend held that the ship was cursed by the resentful spirit of Zhu Yougui, who was assassinated on it centuries ago, and any ship that encountered it was doomed. Hearing the commotion, Lu Yi rushed to the deck with Jinxia following.
He ordered Cen Fu to drop the anchor, but it seemed possessed, pulling their ship relentlessly towards the ghost ship, while the rudder also became unresponsive. Seeing this, Lu Yi declared he was going to board the ghost ship to investigate. Jinxia insisted on accompanying him. Without waiting for her to finish, Lu Yi scooped her up and leaped towards the spectral vessel.
