The Untamed Episode 34 Recap
> The Untamed Recap
Wei Wuxian, known for his fearlessness, was terrified upon seeing Fairy, Jin Ling's dog. He cried out for Lan Wangji to save him, trembling as he fled. Lan Wangji descended from above, shielding Wei Wuxian, which caused Fairy to retreat. Annoyed by the intervention, Jin Ling stormed off. After they left, a local peddler, a self-proclaimed "Mr. All-knowing of Qinghe," thanked them for dealing with the young master. Seizing the opportunity, Wei Wuxian inquired about any recent strange occurrences.
The peddler warned them about Walker Ridge, also known as Man-eating Ridge, located a few miles away. He spoke of a Man-eating Bunker there, said to house monsters that devoured anyone who entered, leaving no trace. Wei Wuxian pressed for details, questioning how anyone could know of such events if there were no survivors, and why the Nie Clan, whose territory it was, would ignore it.
The peddler scoffed, stating that while the Nie Clan of old would have acted swiftly, the current Clan Leader, Nie Huaisang, was widely known as "Mr. Know-nothing," implying his incompetence. As Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji continued their journey, Wei Wuxian expressed surprise that Nie Huaisang had become the Clan Leader.
Lan Wangji could only add that he had heard Nie Mingjue died from a cultivation deviation during a public event, leading to Nie Huaisang's succession, but he lacked specific details. Lan Wangji then asked why Wei Wuxian was so afraid of dogs. Wei Wuxian reluctantly revealed that as an orphaned child, he often had to fight stray dogs for food.
He also noted the irony that Jin Ling, like his uncle Jiang Cheng, owned a dog, reminding him of how Jiang Cheng had to give up his beloved puppies due to Wei Wuxian's phobia. Suddenly, they heard Fairy's frantic barking again. Wei Wuxian immediately hid behind Lan Wangji. Lan Wangji observed the surrounding mist, realizing it was a disorientation trap set by humans.
He explained that even a highly spiritual dog like Fairy couldn't breach such wards and must be trapped outside. Wei Wuxian worried about Jin Ling, but Lan Wangji reasoned that if Jin Ling were also outside, Fairy wouldn't be in such a panic. They soon spotted a large, man-made hole in a stone bunker, deducing that Jin Ling had broken in and was now in trouble. Inside the bunker, a "Blades Shrine," they were met with piercing ghostly cries.
They found numerous stone coffins containing sabers instead of bodies. Lan Wangji began to perform Inquiry, using his guqin to communicate with the spirits. The first spirit they contacted claimed ignorance of its location, cause of death, or killer. When Lan Wangji asked the spirit's gender, it finally answered "male" and confirmed that a boy of fifteen or sixteen had entered the bunker and was still inside.
When Lan Wangji asked for the spirit's own age and origin, it replied "sixteen" and "from Lanling." Wei Wuxian was stunned, realizing the spirit they were communicating with was none other than Jin Ling himself. Following the spirit's guidance, they found Jin Ling trapped within a wall, barely alive. Lan Wangji immediately began transferring spiritual power to him while Wei Wuxian investigated the wall, discovering countless skeletons embedded within.
Just then, Jin Ling's eyes opened, and he unconsciously tried to step back into the wall. Wei Wuxian quickly pulled him away, and they carried him out of the bunker. Outside, a mysterious figure darted past. Lan Wangji gave chase, while Wei Wuxian took Jin Ling to find a safe place to rest. At a local inn, Wei Wuxian laid Jin Ling on a bed. While removing his shoes, he discovered a dark Curse Mark on Jin Ling's leg.
Relieved that it hadn't spread to his chest after a quick check of his robes, Wei Wuxian sighed in relief. At that moment, Jin Ling awoke and, seeing Wei Wuxian unbuttoning his clothes, fled in a fit of anger and embarrassment. Wei Wuxian followed, only to see Jiang Cheng approaching with Jin Ling in tow. He tried to hide but turned straight into Fairy. Startled, Wei Wuxian screamed and ran directly into Jiang Cheng's path.
Under Jiang Cheng's intense gaze and the threat of his Zidian whip, Wei Wuxian reluctantly removed his mask. Jiang Cheng's eyes widened, filled with a complex mix of shock, joy, and bitter resentment. Jiang Cheng dragged Wei Wuxian back to his room, placing Fairy inside to intimidate him. In his panic, Wei Wuxian cried out for his "Senior Sister," a name that deeply enraged Jiang Cheng.
He began raking over the events of sixteen years ago, relentlessly blaming Wei Wuxian for his sister's death and reprimanding him for his harsh words to Jin Ling at Dafan Mountain. Remembering how he had insulted Jin Ling by calling him a child "with a mother to bear him but not to raise him," Wei Wuxian was filled with deep regret. Jiang Cheng then demanded to know Wen Ning's whereabouts.
Wei Wuxian truthfully claimed ignorance, but Jiang Cheng refused to believe him. Just then, Jin Ling interrupted, telling Jiang Cheng that he had encountered a figure he believed to be Wen Ning that afternoon. He described a swift, blurry shape and the distinctive sound of chains near a dilapidated house to the south. Convinced, Jiang Cheng bound Wei Wuxian with Zidian and left to capture Wen Ning, vowing to "scatter his ashes."
After Jiang Cheng was gone, Jin Ling secretly released Wei Wuxian, telling him they were now even for the rescue. Wei Wuxian sincerely apologized to Jin Ling for his cruel words. Jin Ling retorted that he was used to such insults but vowed to one day prove he was stronger than anyone. Seeing Jin Ling's stubborn pride, Wei Wuxian quickly rendered him unconscious and transferred the Curse Mark from Jin Ling's leg onto his own.
