The Untamed Episode 29 Recap
> The Untamed Recap
In a Yiling teahouse, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji sat together while an energetic Wen Yuan ran around them. The young boy showed a clear preference for Lan Wangji, affectionately calling him "Brother Rich" and offering him food, prompting an amused observation from Wei Wuxian about his fickle loyalties. Though typically reserved, Lan Wangji showed a clear fondness for the boy, gently telling him to eat without talking. Wen Yuan, who often ignored Wei Wuxian's instructions, surprisingly obeyed.
Wei Wuxian questioned Lan Wangji’s presence in Yiling, jokingly asking if he had come just for him. He insisted he could control himself and didn't need "saving" with calming music, preferring instead to hear news from the outside world. Lan Wangji then revealed a pivotal piece of information: Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan were to be married in half a month.
Stunned, Wei Wuxian grew bitter that Jiang Cheng hadn't told him, though he conceded that since he had publicly defected, he was now an outsider to such news. He passionately declared that Jin Zixuan was utterly unworthy of his kind Senior Sister, who deserved the best in the world.
He recalled his vow that he and Jiang Cheng would give Jiang Yanli a wedding so magnificent it would be spoken of for a hundred years, now lamenting that he wouldn't even be there to see it. Suddenly, a talisman in Wei Wuxian’s pocket flared into ash, signaling distress from the Burial Mounds. Recognizing the urgency, he grabbed Wen Yuan and rushed towards the mountain, with Lan Wangji following close behind.
When Wei Wuxian asked why he wasn't flying on his sword, Lan Wangji simply replied that he had forgotten to bring it. At the Demon-subduing Cave, they found chaos. Wen Qing and Fourth Uncle Wen were struggling to contain a rampaging Wen Ning. Wen Qing explained that he had suddenly gone berserk, destroying the restrictive formations of both the Blood Pool Cave and the Demon-subduing Cave, unleashing a surge of resentful energy.
Wei Wuxian told Lan Wangji that he had been using the Stygian Tiger Amulet to restore Wen Ning's consciousness and was nearly finished when he inexplicably broke free. He urged Wen Qing to evacuate the others, stressing that Wen Ning must not be allowed to leave the mountain. As Wen Ning attacked, Wei Wuxian struggled to suppress him until Lan Wangji intervened, playing a pacifying melody on his guqin.
Seizing the opportunity, Wei Wuxian used talismans to seal and finally subdue Wen Ning. Wen Ning slowly regained his senses, his eyes now showing black pupils. He recognized Wen Qing, calling her "sister," and then haltingly spoke to Wei Wuxian. Overcome with joy, Wen Qing tearfully embraced her brother. Wei Wuxian assured Wen Ning he had only had a nightmare and, proud of his success, invited Lan Wangji into the Demon-subduing Cave.
He humorously explained that since a "demon" like him often slept there, it was a "Demon-subduing" Cave. He pointed out the dense resentful energy, perfect for cultivation, and explained the "Blood Pool" was named for its blood-like smell, a result of the Stygian Tiger Amulet drawing out Wen Ning's resentful energy. Lan Wangji expressed deep concern over Wei Wuxian's control of the amulet, but Wei Wuxian brushed off his worries, insisting he had everything under control.
When Lan Wangji asked if he intended to live this way forever, Wei Wuxian deflected, boasting that his mountain was bigger and had better food than the Cloud Recesses. Soon after, a fully recovered Wen Ning joined them, speaking normally and apologizing for his frenzy. Wei Wuxian lightly dismissed it, playfully chiding him for not having tea for their guest.
As Wei Wuxian walked Lan Wangji down the mountain, he confessed his dilemma, explaining that he could not abandon the Wen remnants and believed Lan Wangji, in his position, would do the same. He wondered aloud if there was an easy path to protect people without the Stygian Tiger Amulet. Thanking Lan Wangji for the company and the news of his sister's wedding, Wei Wuxian reaffirmed his confidence in his choices.
Wen Yuan begged "Brother Rich" to stay, but Wei Wuxian gently explained that everyone has their own path. As Lan Wangji departed, Wei Wuxian defiantly declared that while others walk the broad avenue, he would walk his solitary, single-plank bridge to the end. Returning to the Burial Mounds, Wei Wuxian was surprised to find the settlement decorated with red lanterns. The Wen remnants, led by Fourth Uncle, had prepared a feast to thank him.
They shared homemade fruit wine, and as the celebration continued, Wei Wuxian drank heavily. He became emotional, quoting a saying about preferring a drink now to posthumous fame, before pouring out his sorrow. He lamented that he had promised his Senior Sister the most magnificent wedding imaginable, yet now he couldn't even be there for it, repeating how useless he felt as Wen Qing watched with profound sympathy.
Meanwhile, rumors about the formidable Yiling Patriarch and his "Ghost General" Wen Ning circulated. Wen Ning was described as a fast, strong, and fully conscious puppet, superior to anything the Wen clan had created. People also discussed Wei Wuxian's innovations like the Compass of Evil and Flame Talismans.
In a marketplace, one man posing as the "Chief Disciple of the Yiling Patriarch" peddled Flame Talismans before another man denounced him as a fraud, claiming "he" was the true disciple and showcasing his own trinkets. As the two impostors argued, the real Wei Wuxian, accompanied by Wen Ning, was nearby, quietly selling radishes. After a small sale, he gave Wen Ning the meager earnings to buy meat, prompting a quiet apology from the Ghost General.
