Storm Eye Episode 7 Recap
> Storm Eye Recap
Miao Fei expressed her firm belief that Jia Changan would not have committed suicide, reasoning that he was not an irresponsible person who would escape problems, even if involved in smuggling. An Jing confirmed that Jia Changan's death was indeed a homicide. She explained that surveillance footage showed Jia Changan with documents before his death, which were missing from the scene, suggesting they were taken by the killer or someone who did not save him.
An Jing asked if Jia Changan had mentioned these documents to Miao Fei, but Miao Fei shook her head. Miao Huanyang, appearing distressed by the mention of documents, interjected and urged An Jing to allow Miao Fei to calm down. As An Jing and Du Meng prepared to leave, An Jing cautioned them to keep the information about the homicide confidential to aid the investigation. Miao Fei bowed deeply, pleading with them to find the killer.
Ma Shang attended an interview for a human resources supervisor position at Dinghua. Pang Yishan, one of the interviewers, noted Ma Shang’s impressive resume but questioned the relevance of his previous headhunting experience to a management role. Ma Shang argued that his extensive headhunting background was his greatest asset, enabling him to not only select talent but also contribute to product sales. The interview was then unexpectedly joined by Lin Xiaolan, the group’s President.
Upon learning that Ma Shang had been recommended by Miao Huanyang, Lin Xiaolan emphasized her strict policy against internal factions and her preference for hiring individuals without prior company connections. Ma Shang clarified that Miao Huanyang’s involvement was merely to help him secure an interview due to an age requirement. He further elaborated on his strengths, highlighting his ability to understand people's needs and company requirements, and his harmonious relationships with key employees.
After Ma Shang's interview, Pang Yishan expressed his view that Ma Shang might not be suitable for the supervisor position, preferring Yang Xun due to his familiarity with the company. Lin Xiaolan, however, encouraged them to reconsider, stating that breakthroughs and innovation require fresh perspectives and not solely relying on existing staff. She instructed them to think about it again and that a decision was not needed immediately. Miao Fei decided to return to her own home.
She gently dismissed Miao Lu, who offered to accompany her, telling her to focus on her graduation thesis. Shortly after, Miao Fei received a call from the wedding dress shop on Binhai Road, informing her that her wedding dress had been altered as requested and was ready for pick-up. This call triggered a profound emotional breakdown, and Miao Fei collapsed in despair. Miao Lu rushed to her side, concerned.
Later, Ma Shang reflected on his interview, admitting to An Jing that he felt approaching Miao Huanyang for a recommendation was a mistake, especially given Lin Xiaolan's stance. An Jing encouraged him not to dwell on objective reasons but to reflect on his actions, reassuring him that Director Song could arrange for him if this opportunity didn't work out.
An Jing then updated Ma Shang on her side of the investigation, noting that Miao Huanyang and Miao Fei's reactions to the news of Jia Changan's homicide appeared genuine. She added that the technology department had successfully accessed Jia Changan's computer, revealing he had been collecting shareholder information for Changan Technology prior to his death.
An Jing speculated that Jia Changan had likely sensed danger and was gathering evidence for self-protection, and that the documents he printed at work, later missing from the crime scene, were probably what ultimately led to his death. Miao Fei returned to the home she shared with Jia Changan. Memories of their life together, including their conversations and intimate moments, flooded her mind as she looked at his clothes and personal items. Overwhelmed by grief, she broke down in tears.
Zhou Lian arrived to console her. Miao Fei cried out, lamenting Jia Changan's sudden and inexplicable death, and questioning why he had hidden things from her, despite her being the closest person to him. She expressed regret for not being more attentive to him and wondered who he had provoked. Zhou Lian, feigning surprise, asked if he hadn't committed suicide. Miao Fei, distraught, continued to drink wine until she eventually fell asleep. Zhou Lian remained pensive, observing Miao Fei.
Meanwhile, Qiao Xichuan received a phone call from Jeffrey, who pressured him to accelerate their plans. Jeffrey stated he had already "cleaned up the mess" regarding Jia Changan's death. Qiao Xichuan mentioned the National Security Bureau's close monitoring, but Jeffrey dismissed his concerns, assuring him that the investigation into Jia Changan's death would not lead back to Qiao Xichuan. Qiao Xichuan then inquired about the identity of the person Jeffrey sent to kill Jia Changan, expressing surprise at their efficiency.
Jeffrey only revealed the code name "Sleeper," refusing to provide more details or allow Qiao Xichuan to collaborate with him, stating they had separate missions. Jeffrey then subtly threatened Qiao Xichuan by implying that Zhou Lian, his operative, would become useless if the supply of "fallen goods" was disrupted. Qiao Xichuan defended Zhou Lian, asserting her continued usefulness and promising to "take care of her" himself if she became obsolete.
Immediately after the call, Zhou Lian, who had been secretly listening and recording outside the room, entered. Qiao Xichuan, suspicious, searched her bag, which angered her. Zhou Lian then informed him that Miao Fei already knew Jia Changan's death was not a suicide. Qiao Xichuan dismissed the revelation, claiming Jia Changan's death had nothing to do with them, and instructed Zhou Lian to accompany Miao Fei to the funeral that afternoon, emphasizing her role as Miao Fei's best friend.
Ma Shang's father prepared to attend Jia Changan’s funeral. Ma Shang’s mother urged him to take Ma Shang along to show "sincerity" to Miao Huanyang. Ma Shang agreed that it was appropriate for him to attend for both personal sentiment and professional reasons. At the same time, Pang Yishan reminded Yang Xun that the supervisor position was still undecided and warned him not to be seen "currying favors" to avoid displeasing Lin Xiaolan, who disliked cliques.
Yang Xun, having previously flattered Pang Yishan, acknowledged the advice. Ma Shang received a phone call from An Jing, who informed him that Director Song had arranged for both her and Du Meng to attend the funeral openly, with He Zixuan providing covert support. Ma Shang also mentioned he would be attending. At the funeral, Ma Shang greeted Miao Huanyang and offered his condolences. An Jing and Du Meng were also present.
Miao Lu confronted An Jing and Du Meng, asking why National Security personnel were at the funeral, fearing it would generate gossip within the company. She then directly asked if they were searching for the murderer among the attendees and if her family was in danger. An Jing reassured Miao Lu, explaining that while they were there to pay their respects to Jia Changan, they also needed her cooperation for the investigation.
She clarified that the scenario of a murderer attending a victim's funeral typically applied to serial killers, urging her not to worry excessively. An Jing affirmed that they were investigating Jia Changan's homicide and guaranteed the safety of Miao Lu and her family. She then subtly requested Miao Lu's assistance, suggesting that, as an outsider, Miao Lu might observe details that Miao Fei and Miao Huanyang, due to their involvement in the related industry, might overlook.
She asked Miao Lu to report any suspicious findings. Miao Lu's public confrontation drew unwanted attention, prompting An Jing to decide that she and Du Meng should leave. Ma Shang encountered Yang Xun at the funeral. Yang Xun remarked on the numerous attendees, describing them as "vultures" waiting around Miao Huanyang. Ma Shang inquired about the interview results. Yang Xun explained that background checks were underway for all candidates due to the confidential nature of Dinghua's projects.
Yang Xun confidently declared his intention to secure the personnel head position and promised to help Ma Shang get hired in another role within Dinghua if he succeeded. As Ma Shang and his father were bidding farewell to Miao Huanyang, Qiao Xichuan, disguised as Xu He, approached. Miao Huanyang's demeanor immediately changed to one of fear and discomfort, and he quickly withdrew his hand from Ma's father's grasp.
Xu He began speaking to Miao Huanyang about the "awful mess" Jia Changan had left behind. Miao Huanyang, visibly distressed, urged Xu He not to seek him out, claiming he no longer had the ability to help. Xu He, however, continued to pressure him, subtly threatening Miao Huanyang by mentioning his "two precious daughters."
An Jing, observing from a distance, noted that Miao Huanyang spoke only to Xu He, indicating a significant and potentially troubling relationship, and instructed He Zixuan to investigate Xu He's background. Later, Yang Xun visited Zhou Lian at her restaurant. He introduced himself as Miao Fei's special assistant and expressed concern about Miao Fei's prolonged absence from the company, stating he wished to inquire about her condition through Zhou Lian as he felt it inappropriate to call Miao Fei directly.
Zhou Lian acknowledged his thoughtfulness and offered to relay any messages to Miao Fei, as she planned to stay with her for a few days. Yang Xun then asked to exchange WeChat contact information, which Zhou Lian agreed to. Finally, Ma Shang received a phone call confirming his successful recruitment at Dinghua and instructing him to report for duty on time. His parents were overjoyed by the news, and his mother excitedly declared they would celebrate.
