Miao Fei expressed her surprise at Miao Lu and Cheng Lei’s unexpected arrival in Danhe, though she understood why they would come, given her father initiated the technology and Cheng Lei's extensive involvement in the project. She then received a phone call, and Ma Shang instructed her to answer normally. The caller, Cheng Lei, using a disguised voice and speaking English, demanded her cooperation to obtain synthetic material technology, threatening her by claiming knowledge of her father, Miao Huanyang’s, whereabouts.

Miao Fei vehemently refused, stating her father had already paid for his actions, and An Jing quickly intervened to calm her down. An Jing assured Miao Fei that her father was safe under witness protection and the caller was merely bluffing. Ma Shang instructed Miao Fei to comply with any future demands from the caller, assuring her that the National Security Bureau would protect her.

After Miao Fei left, Ma Shang analyzed that the enemy's renewed contact with Miao Fei was merely a diversion, expressing concern that Professor Zou might be the real target. An Jing introduced Ma Shang and He Zixuan to their local colleagues, Wang Zuo and Lao Liu, emphasizing the need to keep their task force identities confidential. Later, An Jing asked about Bat’s activities, and Du Meng reported no significant movements or untraceable satellite calls.

Miao Fei suddenly asked Ma Shang if he had ever killed anyone, struggling to understand why she was being targeted when she had never harmed anyone. An Jing acknowledged Miao Fei’s emotional distress, and Ma Shang offered comfort by explaining that crime, in essence, stems from poor evolutionary performance in human society, where progress is ultimately achieved through cooperation. Miao Fei understood his perspective. Miao Fei received another call and was instructed to wear a headset.

Under the watchful eyes of An Jing and Du Meng, she followed instructions and went to a supermarket. Cheng Lei, observing her through a camera on her headset, noticed her glancing at An Jing and Du Meng. Miao Fei explained her fear of being discovered. The encrypted call was untraceable. Cheng Lei, speaking to an associate, explained his use of English was to confuse the National Security Bureau and hoped they would not suspect him.

The Bat received a signal to proceed with his mission. Cheng Lei then guided Miao Fei to a staff entrance, informing her that the items in her bag would not pass the main security check. Miao Fei, communicating with Ma Shang through her second earpiece, revealed she was carrying a computer. Sensing danger, Ma Shang warned his colleagues that Bat might be preparing to act. Miao Fei entered the staff passage using a password provided by Cheng Lei.

Ma Shang approached her, and Cheng Lei ordered Miao Fei to send him away. As Ma Shang turned to leave, he discreetly placed a second Bluetooth earphone into Miao Fei’s other ear, enabling her to communicate with both Ma Shang and Cheng Lei simultaneously. An Jing grew suspicious, and Ma Shang, having brought a jammer, suspected the computer might contain a bomb. He refrained from activating the jammer immediately, as it would interrupt all communications and expose their operation.

Cheng Lei instructed Miao Fei to find a seat and open the computer. The moment Miao Fei opened the laptop, Ma Shang activated the jammer. Cheng Lei, believing he had outsmarted them, gloated that the National Security Bureau would now be focused on disarming what they thought was a bomb, diverting attention from his true objective. However, Ma Shang’s voice then came through his earpiece, declaring Cheng Lei had lost.

Meanwhile, Bat, disguised as a hotel service worker, attempted to deliver a meal to Professor Zou. Security personnel, who were actually National Security Bureau agents, frisked him and allowed him into the room, where he was immediately apprehended. The computer Miao Fei carried was confirmed to be an ordinary device, not a bomb. After the mission, An Jing informed Miao Fei that she and Du Meng needed to attend a meeting, assuring her that security personnel would remain with her.

Later, Miao Lu called Miao Fei, suggesting they have dinner together. Miao Fei declined due to work but agreed to dinner the following evening. Miao Lu told Cheng Lei to be on his best behavior for their first dinner with Miao Fei. Separately, Cheng Lei received news that Bat had lost contact and the mission had failed.

At a meeting, it was revealed that Bat claimed he had never met the Sleeper but provided intelligence about a key figure who had disappeared. The priority remained Professor Zou's and the data's safety. The next day, Ma Shang joined Miao Fei for dinner with Miao Lu and Cheng Lei, citing security concerns and his past employment at Dinghua as a reason for his presence. Miao Lu expressed surprise at Ma Shang’s unexpected appearance.

Miao Fei attempted to reassure Cheng Lei about his contributions to Dinghua, promising him an important position in the future. Ma Shang, in turn, playfully tried to poach Cheng Lei for his headhunting company. Miao Fei then informed them that the public exhibition had been canceled for safety reasons. Miao Lu, upset, left for the restroom, protesting that Cheng Lei, after all his hard work, would not even get to see the exhibit. Miao Fei followed to console her.

In the restroom, Miao Fei urged Miao Lu to convince Cheng Lei to return to Shuangqing the next day, asking her to pretend it was her own idea. She explained she couldn't clarify the situation now but would in a few days, stressing that Miao Lu should not tell anyone, especially Cheng Lei. Back at the table, Ma Shang questioned Cheng Lei's presence at the conference, noting it was out of character for him to attend uninvited.

Cheng Lei explained that Miao Lu had insisted on coming, wanting to witness the project’s success on behalf of her father, Miao Huanyang, who he confirmed had been arrested. Ma Shang discreetly placed a listening device on Cheng Lei. Cheng Lei later discovered the device but, after some contemplation, put it back, seemingly planning to use it to his advantage. During this time, Miao Lu continuously tried to persuade Cheng Lei to return to Shuangqing, and he agreed.

An Jing, listening in, heard a sudden commotion and suspected Miao Lu and Cheng Lei had been kidnapped. Back in her room, Miao Fei received another call from Cheng Lei, the Sleeper. He instructed her to wear her headphones and accused her of trying to get Miao Lu to leave Danhe too quickly.

He revealed he had "controlled" Miao Lu and Cheng Lei because they refused to depart, threatening Miao Fei that he could eliminate her regardless of National Security Bureau protection. Desperate to protect her sister, Miao Fei agreed to cooperate. As the doorbell rang, Cheng Lei ordered her to remain calm and not hang up. An Jing was at the door, asking if Miao Fei was alright. Miao Fei, feigning normalcy, allowed her in, concealing the ongoing call.

An Jing informed Miao Fei that Miao Lu and Cheng Lei might have been kidnapped, likely to coerce her into compliance. She advised Miao Fei to report any suspicious contacts immediately, promising the Bureau’s support. Miao Fei, appearing distracted, requested to be left alone due to tiredness. After An Jing left, Cheng Lei commended Miao Fei's performance, reiterated his promise not to harm her sister if she cooperated, and demanded to know what she was willing to do next.
