Dissatisfied with Yu Qifeng's recent blunders, Liu Yan visited his residence late at night. Liu Yan told Yu Qifeng that if he wanted to ensure his own safety, he must kill for him. Yu Qifeng asked who he should kill, to which Liu Yan responded, "Everyone," specifying groups like Five Tiger Fort, Renwu Sect, and Golden Leopard Gang. Following Liu Yan's command, one of Yu Qifeng's disciples quickly located A Shui.

As the disciple began to destroy the ledgers and set fire to all the documents in the storeroom, A Shui cried out in alarm. Chi Yun immediately intervened to protect A Shui and the ledgers, warning her to step back as others rushed to put out the fire. Chi Yun confronted the assailant, recognizing their technique as the Eight Winds Blaze Tome and preventing them from escaping.

As A Shui was kidnapped by members of The Unfettered Guild, Chi Yun immediately gave chase. He was confronted by a white-clad figure whose fighting style was formidable yet strangely familiar. Chi Yun recognized her as Bai Suche, his fiancée. Bai Suche confirmed she was serving the Honored Master, and Chi Yun was shocked to learn she was now with The Unfettered Guild.

He tried to reason with her, asking if her family's annihilation a year ago was orchestrated by The Unfettered Guild and if she joined them for revenge. Bai Suche coldly dismissed his inquiries, warning him that the former Bai Suche was dead and she was now merely the Honored Master's attendant. She threatened him with death if he interfered, stating that Tang Lici would die at the Citadel of Swordsman and Chi Yun would be next if he didn't retreat.

Unable to bring himself to harm his former fiancée, Chi Yun could only watch helplessly as A Shui was taken away, shouting for Bai Suche to explain Liu Yan's schemes. Chi Yun reported the events to Tang Lici. Based on Bai Suche not returning to the Citadel after their fight, Tang Lici deduced that Yu Qifeng was indeed planning a major move.

Acknowledging that A Shui was in The Unfettered Guild's hands, Tang Lici stated that both he and Liu Yan had been waiting for this confrontation since Jinye Temple. Chi Yun and Shen Langhun offered to join him, but Tang Lici declined, explaining that this was a matter between him and Liu Yan. He assigned them the crucial task of monitoring Yu Qifeng, revealing that Liu Yan’s recent attack on Myriad Vault and the release of Shen Langhun were ploys.

Tang Lici warned that the cornered Yu Qifeng would resort to desperate measures, with Liu Yan's aid. Shen Langhun accepted the responsibility, and Tang Lici departed alone. While searching the empty guest quarters, Chi Yun and Shen Langhun suspected Yu Qifeng was silencing witnesses. Meanwhile, Yu Qifeng was distributing new "divine pills" from the Honored Master to his cronies, boasting of their increased potency.

He acknowledged Tang Lici's discovery of the Ape-Ghoul Nine-Heart Pill and Puzhu's likely report to the Zhongyuan Sword League, but he dismissed it, declaring his ambition for The Unfettered Guild to replace the League and elevate all his followers to Sword Kings. As Chi Yun and Shen Langhun observed from a distance, Yu Qifeng began a monstrous act, absorbing the vital essence of the disciples he had gathered.

As his victims cried out in terror, Yu Qifeng coldly stated he was fulfilling his promise by making them a part of him, thus turning them into "Sword Kings." He reveled in the surging power, demanding more. Meanwhile, A Shui was bound and suspended from a tree at The Unfettered Guild's hideout.

A red-clad figure, a "red fox" from the Guild, taunted A Shui, who responded bitterly that Tang Lici would not come for her, or if he did, it would only be due to his conflict with Liu Yan. To test Tang Lici’s feelings, the red fox tormented A Shui, tightening the ropes until blood streamed down her legs. Just as A Shui fainted, Tang Lici arrived, swiftly cutting the ropes and catching her.

He warned the red fox she was lucky not to have harmed A Shui further. The red fox remarked that Tang Lici clearly cared for A Shui, but Tang Lici denied it, claiming A Shui meant nothing to him. Unconvinced, the red fox then initiated a powerful illusionary technique called "Six Paths Descent into Evil, Infernal Demonic Dance." The red fox’s "Infernal Demonic Dance" trapped Tang Lici in his deepest inner demons.

He relived his past, confronting his origins as a being born for slaughter. He saw the kindness of Fang Zhou, who had treated him like family and urged him to return to All-Seeing Tower when he tried to leave, feeling he was different. The illusion also showed Tang Lici that his true nature would be feared, and he witnessed Fang Zhou's sacrifice, who declared, "If my death means everyone else lives, what's wrong with that?" This deeply tormented Tang Lici.

As Tang Lici struggled, A Shui attempted to rouse him, despite the red fox's taunts that he was lost and his friends—Chi Yun, Shen Langhun, Zhong Chunji, Gu Xitan, and A Shui herself—would soon follow him to their deaths. A Shui gently spoke, reminding him that even wounds that heal still hurt. Her words, along with his determination to save Fang Zhou in the illusion, resonated, and Tang Lici broke free.

He scoffed at Liu Yan's attempt to use an inner demon against him, stating that in Liu Yan's eyes, he was already a heartless monster incapable of having a "heart demon." After breaking free, Tang Lici sent A Shui back to Myriad Vault for her safety, telling her Chi Yun needed him more. He then hurried to assist Chi Yun and Shen Langhun, who were struggling against a supernaturally empowered Yu Qifeng.

They had discovered Yu Qifeng absorbing life force from a black crystal, a forbidden art that granted immense power. Brimming with newfound vitality, Yu Qifeng proved nearly invulnerable and taunted them about being abandoned by Tang Lici. Just as Yu Qifeng was about to deliver a killing blow, Tang Lici arrived. As Tang Lici and Yu Qifeng faced off, Liu Yan, observing the battle, declared the duel deserved "some fireworks."

He deliberately caused the Tianyan Sword Wall to crack and crumble, sending fire and debris raining down on the city below. Recognizing Liu Yan's treachery, Tang Lici instructed Shen Langhun to go to Myriad Vault and find A Shui, who knew who to contact for help. He then ordered Chi Yun to gather Zhong Chunji and Gu Xitan to lead the evacuation, emphasizing that this was part of his wager with Puzhu.

Chi Yun accepted, warning Tang Lici to be careful. Left alone, Tang Lici confronted Yu Qifeng, lamenting Puzhu's misplaced mercy and wondering if Puzhu would regret sparing him now. Undeterred, Yu Qifeng revealed a new power granted by the Honored Master: the "Phoenix Sword Tome." Below, amidst the chaos, Chi Yun organized the evacuation. Initially, many Citadel of Swordsman disciples tried to flee to the mountains for safety.

However, witnessing Tang Lici’s allies helping the citizens, they were moved and joined the rescue effort. As he departed on his mission, Shen Langhun voiced his concern, hoping Tang Lici would be unharmed.
