Whispers of Fate Episode 10 Recap
> Whispers of Fate Recap
Tang Lici asserted to Shen Langhun that he "will never lose" and promised Shen Langhun would "get his revenge," always keeping his word. Shen Langhun, however, still felt dismissed, wondering if Tang Lici viewed him as a friend or merely a burden. He observed Tang Lici's unusual agitation, suspecting hidden worry. Nearby, an unnamed ally reassured Chi Yun—who had also been treated harshly by Tang Lici—that he held great importance to their leader.
The ally explained that Tang Lici's harshness stemmed from an old injury flaring up, making him lash out. Chi Yun, upon hearing this, realized Tang Lici truly needed him. Meanwhile, Yu Qifeng learned that Myriad Vault had acquired critical ledgers, causing him anxiety about imminent exposure. He urgently ordered a subordinate to transport accumulated cargo out of the city.
When his disciple questioned the urgency and growing rumors linking Yu Qifeng and other sect leaders to Ape-Ghoul Nine-Heart Pills, Yu Qifeng dismissed them as Tang Lici's cunning schemes to mislead, insisting that Citadel of Swordsman conducted legitimate business and was being framed. As the trial for Jiang Qingyu was about to begin, Yu Qifeng noted the sparse attendance of major sect leaders, observing that only his loyal followers were present.
He was confident that only one man needed to be convinced of Tang Lici's guilt for his plan to succeed. He then summoned his son, Furen, asking him to carry out a task he claimed would preserve Citadel of Swordsman's century-old reputation and allow Yu Qifeng to publicly acknowledge him as his son. Furen vowed to uphold his mission, believing he would bring Tang Lici to justice.
At the banquet, Yu Qifeng declared Tang Lici the true host, stating he had rented the Jade Terrace to expose the truth about Jiang Qingyu's death. Yu Qifeng recounted how Jiang Qingyu was murdered in his heavily guarded dungeon and accused Shen Langhun, Tang Lici’s recruited assassin from Towers of the Fallen, of the deed. He appealed to Pu Zhu for an impartial investigation. Tang Lici, the Emperor's brother-in-law and a disciple of All-Seeing Tower, then offered a toast.
Yu Qifeng presented Tang Lici with a special wine, which he claimed contained a "gu of confession" that compelled the drinker to speak only the truth. Tang Lici, unfazed by this "crude" trick, accepted but insisted everyone present share the wine, pouring his cup into a larger pot and serving all guests, including Yu Qifeng himself. After everyone had consumed the wine, Yu Qifeng directly challenged Tang Lici, asking if he was responsible for Fang Zhou’s death.
Tang Lici, admitting that Yu Qifeng's gu forced him to answer, coolly confessed to killing Fang Zhou. He then had Shen Langhun bring in his own wine and revealed it contained the "Moon Heart elixir," warning that anyone who had previously taken Ape-Ghoul Nine-Heart Pills would suffer severe abdominal pain, intestinal perforation, and death within two hours of consuming it.
This shocking announcement plunged the hall into chaos as many guests, exhibiting distress, rose in panic, unwittingly revealing their involvement with the evil pills. Pu Zhu, witnessing the entire spectacle, was horrified by Yu Qifeng's duplicity, Tang Lici's calculated ruthlessness, and the widespread corruption among Yu Qifeng’s followers. As guests screamed in agony from apparent symptoms, Pu Zhu pulled Tang Lici aside, demanding to know what he had truly put in the wine.
Tang Lici, acknowledging Pu Zhu's integrity, revealed it was merely a powerful laxative. He explained that his actions were a strategic maneuver, exploiting the situation to expose Yu Qifeng's network of corrupt followers. Tang Lici then reflected on his methods, stating he operates on possibilities rather than rigid principles, unlike his late master Fang Zhou, who died despite upholding noble ideals. He declared that he "just wants to live" and understood that his path diverged from Pu Zhu's.
Meanwhile, Frost Weaver successfully intercepted Yu Qifeng’s urgent cargo shipment. On the river, Furen, Yu Qifeng’s son and commander, confronted Tang Lici, accusing him of colluding with ruffians to loot his ships and disrespecting the Citadel of Swordsman’s rules. Tang Lici, feigning ignorance and claiming to be merely enjoying the scenery with his friend, Pu Zhu, implied that Furen was accusing Pu Zhu of being the thief. Furen, realizing he was trapped, backed down.
Disapproving of Tang Lici's manipulative tactics, Pu Zhu declared he could not walk the same path. Just then, the captured cargo—boxes of Ape-Ghoul Nine-Heart Pills—was presented as irrefutable evidence. Bound by a prior wager not to interfere, Pu Zhu nonetheless stated the Sword League would not stand idly by and demanded that Tang Lici not kill Yu Qifeng.
Tang Lici, in turn, warned Pu Zhu that he had only six hours—the time it would take for Sword League reinforcements to arrive—to prevent such an outcome. He then ordered his people to destroy all the pills. Later, a mysterious figure, "the Lordship," appeared before Yu Qifeng, chastising him for his incompetence.
The Lordship enumerated Yu Qifeng's blunders: failing to poison Tang Lici and inadvertently exposing other pill users, foolishly attempting to smuggle cargo and falling into Tang Lici's trap, and naively believing he could still survive. Yu Qifeng tried to justify himself by mentioning Tang Lici’s confession regarding Fang Zhou’s murder under the gu of confession. The Lordship, however, dismissed this, stating he already knew the answer.
Despite Yu Qifeng's failures, the Lordship surprisingly declared that his life would be spared for the night due to his ambition. However, as compensation, Yu Qifeng was ordered to kill "everyone" the following day.
