She explained that she had gone to the mountains to gather medicine for Shangguan Wenxuan, got lost, and Mu Xingchen saved her. Ye Yunshang initially gave Mu Xingchen a sharp look, but after he explained the situation, she finally smiled, expressing her relief that they were both safe.
Mu Xingchen confirmed that while the masterminds, Song Ziqing and Dashan, had been identified and escaped, Shangguan Wenxuan's condition was deteriorating rapidly, and he would not last many more days. Shangguan Wenxuan soon collapsed from intense pain. Shangguan Qing arrived and used his Qing Nang skills to revive him. However, Shangguan Wenxuan refused his help, angrily calling him his mother's murderer and ordering him to leave.
Mu Xingchen confronted Shangguan Qing, asking if he was indeed responsible for Zeng Shuya's death. Shangguan Qing, with a grim expression, denied it. Mu Xingchen pressed further, suggesting Shangguan Qing owed Wenxuan an explanation, as Wenxuan's self-destructive despair had made him vulnerable to being poisoned. Shangguan Qing coldly dismissed it as a family matter unrelated to Mu Xingchen and departed. Observing Shangguan Qing's retreating figure, Ye Yunshang remarked on his cold-hearted and merciless nature.
Determined to save Shangguan Wenxuan, Mu Xingchen and Ye Yunshang resolved to uncover the complete truth. They meticulously pieced together Zeng Shuya's fragmented diary pages. The diary recounted an incident where a man with a repulsive face broke into her home. He accused her of living with his killer, claiming that this enemy had peeled off his face and cast him into a river, yet he miraculously survived. The attacker then began to strangle Zeng Shuya.
Fortunately, the current Shangguan Qing appeared, saved her, and killed the attacker. Mu Xingchen speculated that this attacker was the "original" Shangguan Qing, who was believed to have been killed by Mu Nan'yue. Hearing this, Shangguan Wenxuan vehemently declared that the current Shangguan Qing, whom he now considered an impostor, must have been the one who killed his mother.
Overwhelmed, Wenxuan, sensing his weakening state, pleaded with Mu Xingchen to promise two things: first, to definitively uncover the truth of his mother's death so he could rest in peace, and second, to protect Chu Tianyao, a good girl he should never betray. Mu Xingchen solemnly promised to fulfill both requests. Wenxuan then collapsed, and Chu Tianyao helped carry him back to his room.
Later, Mu Xingchen pondered Shangguan Wenxuan's mysterious recovery, and Ye Yunshang suggested it must have been Mu Xingchen's uncle, Shangguan Qing, who used his Qing Nang skills to save him, noting Shangguan Qing's exhaustion upon leaving. She described him as having a sharp tongue but a soft heart, believing both he and Wenxuan to be fundamentally good people. Meanwhile, Yunhai City was plunged into chaos by the Ying Liu Society, which instigated malicious bank runs and rampant price inflation.
Mu Xingchen and Ye Yunshang discovered that the leaders orchestrating these disturbances were prominent business figures, all controlled by the Fuling grass poison. These poisoned individuals were deliberately hoarding supplies and artificially raising prices to destabilize Yunhai City. Shangguan Qing and Ye Qiushi swiftly organized a press conference to calm the anxious populace. Ye Qiushi announced that the city's financial markets were in disarray, with essential grain reserves critically low, while the wealthy hoarded foreign exchange and gold.
He vowed that they would defeat the Ying Liu Society as they had before, pledging his family's entire fortune to stabilize prices. During the conference, an agent of the Ying Liu Society, claiming to be Japanese, was apprehended. Mu Xingchen, deep in thought about a cure for the Fuling grass, playfully stopped Ye Yunshang, touching her face and leaning close.
When she, embarrassed by their public setting, asked his intentions, he called out for Meijiao, making Ye Yunshang realize her misunderstanding and laugh awkwardly. Mu Xingchen teased her, asking what she thought he was doing, to which Meijiao candidly replied that Ye Yunshang thought he wanted to kiss her. Ye Yunshang quickly hushed Meijiao. Mu Xingchen then asked Meijiao to send a message to the Shenmu tribe, inquiring with his master about how to remove Fuling grass.
As Meijiao left, Mu Xingchen again provocatively asked Ye Yunshang if Meijiao's earlier comment was true, eliciting an exasperated eye-roll as she walked away. Kong Chan, Mu Xingchen's master, sent a reply explaining that Fuling grass poison could only be cured by the "Transferred" method. He also noted that a person poisoned by Fuling grass, if possessing a strong will, could inversely extract information from the poisoner's mind.
However, Kong Chan issued a grave warning that this method was extremely perilous and should only be employed as a last resort. Undeterred, Mu Xingchen decided to undertake the dangerous "Transferred" method himself to save Shangguan Wenxuan and the other poisoned citizens. Before the procedure, he left a recording for Chu Tianyao to find. In it, he explained that he had revived the Fuling grass from Shangguan Wenxuan's body and transferred it into his own.
He would then use its spiritual energy to pinpoint Song Ziqing's location and instructed her to record everything he said. Witnessing his agonizing struggle, Chu Tianyao, heartbroken, diligently recorded every detail as Mu Xingchen, in immense pain, uttered fragmented clues like "Water. . . Waterwheel. . . River. . ." and finally, clearly, "Song Ziqing. . . she. . . so vicious!" Meanwhile, Mr. Dashan was also in a critical condition, with Song Ziqing tending to him anxiously.
Upon learning of Mu Xingchen's perilous sacrifice, Ye Yunshang became incredibly distressed. Chu Tianyao explained that to save Mu Xingchen, they absolutely had to find Song Ziqing. Armed with the location information Mu Xingchen had painfully acquired, Ye Yunshang, without a moment's hesitation, set off to find Song Ziqing, leaving Chu Tianyao to care for Mu Xingchen.
