Ordinary Greatness Episode 36 Recap
> Ordinary Greatness Recap
Cao Jianjun was released from prison, and Zhou Hui was there to embrace him tightly. Yang Shu, who had come to welcome him, explained that he was there at Chief Wang Shouyi's special request, as the Chief was too busy at the station to come himself. Zhou Hui had opted not to bring their daughter, Yaya, as she believed Jianjun wouldn't want their daughter to see him emerge from such a place.
Yang Shu reassured Zhou Hui that society was more inclusive now, and Jianjun's past mistake of drunk driving wouldn't significantly impact the rest of his life, advising her not to dwell on it in front of Jianjun or Yaya. After his reunion with Zhou Hui, Cao Jianjun spotted Yang Shu.
Yang Shu addressed him as "Master" and conveyed Chief Wang's greetings, adding that the Chief and other comrades at the station would help him if he faced any difficulties in work or life. Zhou Hui then invited Yang Shu to join them for a celebratory meal, but Yang Shu politely declined, stating that it was a time for their family reunion.
Cao Jianjun then asked Zhou Hui to wait in the car, as he wished to speak with Yang Shu alone. He thanked Yang Shu and the Chief. Cao Jianjun then asked Yang Shu about everyone at the station. Yang Shu hesitantly revealed that he had been seconded to the Municipal Bureau for research, a transfer that Cao Jianjun suspected was a consequence of his own actions.
Cao Jianjun told Yang Shu not to call him "Master" anymore, feeling he was unworthy, perhaps serving as a "negative example." Yang Shu, however, insisted that Cao Jianjun would always be his master. Cao Jianjun then asked what the station had been busy with. Yang Shu reluctantly relayed Chief Wang Shouyi's message: since Cao Jianjun was no longer a police officer, he should no longer concern himself with the station's affairs and instead focus on living his own life.
With tears in his eyes, Cao Jianjun received the message, then expressed how much he missed the station and its collective, and reminded Yang Shu, who was seconded to the Municipal Bureau, to visit the station often himself. He then left with Zhou Hui. Chief Cheng Hao noticed Cao Jianjun lingering outside the police station and reported it to Wang Shouyi. Wang Shouyi went out to meet Cao Jianjun. Cao Jianjun expressed his gratitude to the station.
Wang Shouyi remarked on Zhou Hui's resilience during the past six months and urged Cao Jianjun to cherish Zhou Hui, their child, and his family, to live well, and to help more with housework. However, due to his status, Wang Shouyi could not bring Cao Jianjun inside the station. With a heavy heart, Wang Shouyi watched Cao Jianjun's disappointed figure walk away.
Cheng Hao later approached Wang Shouyi about helping Cao Jianjun find a job, noting his age and recent criminal punishment. Wang Shouyi suggested Cheng Hao inquire in other precincts for a security captain position. Gao Chao proposed placing Cao Jianjun in their own precinct, arguing it would be easier to look after him, as they all knew Jianjun well. However, Wang Shouyi disagreed, believing it was important to sever Cao Jianjun's lingering hopes of returning to the police force.
He specifically instructed Cheng Hao to contact Chief Qi at the Miaoqian Street police station, as new malls there might need an experienced security captain. He stressed finding a captain position so Cao Jianjun could earn a decent living. Meanwhile, Li Dawei and Chen Xincheng continued to monitor Yue Wei, finding nothing unusual in his daily activities. Chen Xincheng then noticed Cao Jianjun outside the station and invited him in. Cao Jianjun expressed a desire to see the office.
Li Dawei led him inside. As Cao Jianjun looked at his old office, seeing his award photo still hanging and the familiar setup, he was overcome with sadness, realizing he was now an outsider. Chen Xincheng gently advised him to live well for his wife and daughter. After working through the night, Li Dawei took a taxi home. To his surprise, the driver was Wang Gang.
Wang Gang revealed that his father, Wang Jianguo, had passed away due to organ rejection after receiving a liver transplant. The transplant only happened because a donor became available after another patient's condition worsened, and despite the successful surgery, rejection ultimately claimed his life. Wang Gang, now driving for an online car-hailing service in addition to his bus driver job, mentioned he was working hard to pay off the medical debts.
Cheng Hao successfully found Cao Jianjun a position as a deputy security captain at Lanming Building on Liyuan Street, offering a monthly salary of just over 5,000 yuan. Although it was a newly created "deputy" position due to the rarity of such roles in small security teams, Zhou Hui was reportedly pleased, just happy that Cao Jianjun would be out working instead of staying home. Wang Shouyi noted how fortunate Cao Jianjun was to have such a loyal wife.
In positive news for the Balihe Police Station, Wang Shouyi announced that Interpol had successfully arrested the head of the major fraud syndicate they had been pursuing, recovering most of the stolen funds. The Municipal Bureau highly praised the Balihe Police Station for their significant contribution.
However, a new issue arose at the household registration center when an old man caused a commotion, crying that his daughter had died mysteriously and that her son-in-law, Xu Jianshi, had hastily cremated her and canceled her household registration without the physical household register. The old man, who still possessed the register, accused Xu Jianshi of destroying evidence and implicated the police in a collusion to assist him.
Xia Jie investigated and learned that Xiao Wang had processed the cancellation prior to her vacation, despite the lack of a physical household register. Xu Jianshi had presented a marriage certificate, property certificate, and a hospital death certificate, tearfully claiming his father-in-law was away and he wished for his wife to rest in peace promptly. Xiao Wang, moved by sympathy, had made an exception, believing the household register would be provided later.
The old man abruptly left, but his complaint reached the 12345 hotline. Ye Wei informed Xia Jie of the serious complaint from higher-ups, who demanded an investigation into the officer responsible. Xia Jie immediately took full responsibility, promising to uncover the truth swiftly, and asked Li Dawei to go to the hospital to verify the death certificate. Later, Gao Chao responded to a report of a fight at a mall in their precinct.
To his surprise, he found Cao Jianjun, now working as an ordinary security guard at that mall for a monthly salary of less than 4,000 yuan, had already expertly de-escalated the situation. Seeing everything handled, Gao Chao and his team quietly left. Wang Shouyi learned from Cheng Hao that Cao Jianjun had resigned from the higher-paying security captain position after only a few days and had chosen to work as a regular security guard in their precinct.
Wang Shouyi went to the mall to speak with Cao Jianjun. Cao Jianjun assured him he wouldn't cause trouble for the station and simply wanted to work closer to home. Wang Shouyi spoke candidly about his own impending retirement at the end of the year to an investigator role at the bureau, expressing how much he now cherished simple family life.
He advised Cao Jianjun to forget about being a police officer, as it was no longer possible, and to focus on supporting his family. However, Cao Jianjun, deeply saddened, broke down in tears, insisting that he could not forget his past identity. Wang Shouyi, with a firm yet empathetic tone, told him he must. Xia Jie, Zhao Jiwei, and Li Dawei gathered for hot pot to discuss the household registration case.
Through their combined efforts, they uncovered the truth: the old man's accusations of foul play were malicious, instigated by his second wife, who coveted the deceased daughter's property. The daughter had indeed died of an illness, and shockingly, her father had never visited her in the hospital. Conversely, Xu Jianshi was found to be a truly loyal husband to his late wife.
While the accusation of collusion was unfounded, Xia Jie admitted there were shortcomings in the police's household cancellation procedures. Xia Jie and Li Dawei exchanged compliments on their investigative work, much to Zhao Jiwei's playful annoyance.
