Jiang Xiaoning woke up to find herself in Gu Chuan’s living room, realizing she had fallen asleep there overnight. Nearby, she saw clothes Gu Chuan had washed for her, which brought a warm feeling to her heart. Meanwhile, at Director Xu's residence, Tang Xu was having breakfast. Director Xu informed Tang Xu that his father, Tang Zheng Cheng, was soon to be released from prison and urged him to visit.
Director Xu also mentioned transferring his subsidiary, Hua Zhou Corporation, to Tang Xu, praising his character and competence and stating that he regarded Tang Xu as his own son. Tang Xu agreed, though he harbored deep resentment towards his biological father for destroying his life. Later that morning, after having breakfast at Gu Chuan's home with his aunt, Jiang Xiaoning received a call from Xu Cheng Ran.
He asked her to buy ingredients for a hot pot he wanted to have at Gu Chuan's place for lunch. Gu Chuan expressed his displeasure to Xu Cheng Ran for ordering around an injured Jiang Xiaoning. Xu Cheng Ran advised Gu Chuan to embrace human emotions and "mingle with humans," instead of being as "cold-blooded" as his pet lizard, even if Jiang Xiaoning wasn't typically his type. Gu Chuan dismissed the comments but seemed to take them in, his brow furrowed. Tang Xu later visited his father, Tang Zheng Cheng, who expressed joy about his impending release and hopes for their reunion, also asking if Director Xu was treating Tang Xu well.
Tang Xu confirmed Director Xu's kindness, stating that Director Xu treated him like a son and entrusted everything to him, including his company. His father warned him not to be blindly controlled by money. Tang Xu retorted, accusing his father of being a criminal who killed his mother and ruined his life, unlike Director Xu. With that, Tang Xu abruptly left. Back at Gu Chuan's residence, Jiang Xiaoning returned with the groceries.
Xu Cheng Ran praised her shopping skills and invited her inside. Upon realizing they had no hot pot, Xu Cheng Ran offered to go buy one, but not before instructing Jiang Xiaoning to "keep an eye on Gu Chuan" for him, even suggesting she move in to monitor him 24/7, claiming Gu Chuan could be dangerous when agitated. Jiang Xiaoning was confused but agreed.
After Xu Cheng Ran left, Jiang Xiaoning offered to cook for Gu Chuan, noticing his injured state. Gu Chuan, surprised by her cooking skills, let her. He then messaged Xu Cheng Ran, who explicitly stated he was giving them a "chance for a two-person world." Gu Chuan called it "boring" but couldn't help glancing towards the kitchen. He paid a passerby to conduct a "survey" asking Zhao Yan about her ideal partner, learning she sought a responsible, emotionally stable man who respected women, was decent-looking, athletic, and "big" referring to age.
Satisfied, Xu Cheng Ran then approached Zhao Yan himself, apologizing for his "lateness" and ordering various drinks for her, using what she deemed a "corny gesture." He openly admitted he had found her through Jiang Xiaoning's WeChat Moments, believing their encounter was destined. Zhao Yan, realizing he had tracked her and was Jiang Xiaoning's boss, became protective. She harshly rejected his direct proposal for a date, stating she was "allergic to rich second-generations," especially "idle, bird-faced" ones like him.
Despite her sharp refusal, Xu Cheng Ran found her even more captivating. Back at Gu Chuan's, as he and Jiang Xiaoning ate, the doorbell suddenly rang. It was Gu Chuan's parents. Jiang Xiaoning rushed to open the door, but she and Gu Chuan accidentally stumbled and fell into an embrace just as Gu Chuan’s mother opened the door. Inside, Gu Chuan and Jiang Xiaoning quickly pretended to be discussing work, with Gu Chuan even assigning tasks to an assistant whose computer wasn’t even turned on. Gu Chuan’s parents, having witnessed the intimate scene, implicitly assumed Jiang Xiaoning was Gu Chuan’s girlfriend, praising her cooking and tidiness, and expressing their relief that their son had such a caring partner.
Gu Chuan immediately clarified that Jiang Xiaoning was "just my assistant, not my girlfriend" and urged her to leave for work. Once Jiang Xiaoning had gone, the atmosphere turned cold. Gu Chuan coldly asked his parents how long they planned to stay. His father, frustrated by years of his son’s emotional distance, angrily confronted Gu Chuan, demanding to know why he treated them with such indifference, especially his mother.
His father reminded Gu Chuan of the sacrifices they made for his surgery, including spending all their savings and his mother staying by his side day and night. He bitterly stated that if his mother had known Gu Chuan would become so ruthless, she would have rather not saved him.
Gu Chuan, with tears in his eyes but maintaining a frigid demeanor, retorted that he was "not flesh and blood" like others, and his inability to live with them, marry, or have children meant they should "assume they don't have a son." His father, heartbroken, agreed, while his mother tried to intervene. Later, Jiang Xiaoning recounted the day's events to Su Manlin over the phone. Su Manlin, concerned about Gu Chuan, immediately headed to his home.
Gu Chuan was alone when Xu Cheng Ran arrived, apologizing for giving his parents the password before launching into a detailed account of his new romantic interest: Jiang Xiaoning's best friend, Zhao Yan. Gu Chuan, annoyed, tried to push Xu Cheng Ran out of the house. Just then, Su Manlin arrived. Gu Chuan, still in a difficult emotional state, was terse with her, stating he didn't want to see anyone.
Su Manlin said she was simply relieved he was okay and offered to send his parents off the next day instead of Jiang Xiaoning. Gu Chuan thanked her, and then instructed Xu Cheng Ran to close the door, leaving Su Manlin feeling dejected.
