Nie Jiuluo presented Yan Tuo with a bracelet, which he initially found underwhelming. However, Nie Jiuluo explained that it was a unique magic weapon of the South Mountain Hunters, designed for easy concealment and highly effective against Earth Fiends, unlike ordinary weapons. She clarified that it was not meant for initiating attacks but for escaping critical situations, and emphasized that Jiang Baichuan would recognize it. Curious, Yan Tuo asked about Jiang Baichuan's relationship with Nie Jiuluo.
She revealed that Jiang Baichuan was the leader of the South Mountain Hunters and had raised her like a mentor and father. Yan Tuo then inquired if her plan to completely withdraw from the South Mountain Hunters would be delayed, to which Nie Jiuluo mused on the difficulty of achieving such freedom. Seeing her exhaustion, Yan Tuo offered to get breakfast for Nie Jiuluo. He went out and bought a variety of food from a street vendor.
Upon his return, he found Nie Jiuluo asleep in the car and didn't want to disturb her, but passersby accidentally woke her. He offered her the still-warm breakfast, but she declined, stating she had no appetite and hadn't slept all night. Nie Jiuluo expressed her worry about rescuing Jiang Baichuan, emphasizing that Roadsound Group's influence in Xicang was immense.
She noted that even with solid evidence, Lin Xirou could use her connections to stall, and a rash move might endanger Jiang Baichuan further. She described Lin Xirou as unchanging, with the long lifespan of an Earth Fiend, always cautious, patient, and prone to waiting for opponents to make mistakes. Yan Tuo, however, insisted that while caution was important, they couldn't remain passive and suggested they "make her hurt."
Yan Tuo, with a hint of sarcasm, then questioned if South Mountain Hunters relied on sheer willpower to fight Earth Fiends, pointing out that despite all their efforts, Jiang Baichuan was still captured. Meanwhile, a young driver nervously approached Zheng, asking for two days off after his current delivery, explaining his mother was hospitalized and needed surgery. Zheng, suspicious, nonetheless told him to prioritize his family and leave immediately, offering to let him skip the delivery.
The young man hesitated, claiming his mother's condition was not urgent, and insisted on finishing his work. As he left, Zheng and other individuals received identical cryptic text messages on their phones. Shortly after, Sis, on behalf of Lin Xirou, brought Lin Ling to Yan Tuo’s home. Sis inquired where Yan Tuo had gone that morning. Yan Tuo, flustered, fabricated a story about craving fried breadsticks from a childhood store he saw online.
He claimed he stayed up all night, rushed out to buy a large quantity, but barely ate any, gesturing towards the leftover breakfast on the table. He then complimented Lin Ling's pastries as tasty and healthy. Sis noticed the uneaten breakfast but didn't press the issue, simply commenting that things often don't taste the same as they did in childhood. After Sis departed, Lin Ling asked Yan Tuo if he had met Nie Jiuluo and if there was any progress.
Yan Tuo confirmed the meeting, but only had bad news: Lin Xirou had captured someone important to Nie Jiuluo, meaning he now had to help Nie Jiuluo. Lin Ling then shared her own bad news, revealing she had discovered that a group of unregistered humanoid Earth Fiends were being secretly summoned to Xicang, indicating a major operation was underway.
Yan Tuo instructed her to send him the photos and then delete everything, emphasizing the danger she was in under Lin Xirou's watch. Yan Tuo relayed the information to Nie Jiuluo, highlighting that two of the Earth Fiends were driving separately and planned to stop at a hotel in Shihe, suggesting they target this pair. Agreeing with the strategy, Nie Jiuluo coordinated an operation with her partner, Xing Shen.
The plan was for her to track the targets while Xing Shen would lie in wait at their destination hotel. Nie Jiuluo set off in a rented blue car, trailing the target vehicle. The two Earth Fiends inside discussed the unusual urgency of their summons to Xicang.
The driver was highly alert and soon complained about the lack of breaks, prompting his passenger to joke about how, in their human form granted by Lin Xirou, they were scentless to the South Mountain Hunters' "Hound Clan." The driver, annoyed, then noticed the blue car that had been following them for a while. Nie Jiuluo, realizing she had been spotted, immediately called Yan Tuo.
She informed him she was at a service area, still some distance from the hotel, and that the Earth Fiends had become aware of her presence. Yan Tuo offered to come and reinforce her, but Nie Jiuluo insisted he stay put, arguing that his involvement would disrupt the plan. She suggested that if the Earth Fiends acted rashly on the road, it would be an ideal opportunity to deal with them there.
After the call, the Earth Fiends decided to lure their follower to a quieter location. Nie Jiuluo attempted to contact her allies but couldn't get through. Meanwhile, Xing Shen, stationed at the hotel, frantically tried to reach Nie Jiuluo, but her phone was unreachable. Worried, he ordered his team to search along the highway, backtracking from their position. Yan Tuo also found Nie Jiuluo's phone unreachable and, despite her earlier instructions, decided to go find her.
The Earth Fiends led Nie Jiuluo away from the hotel, eventually guiding her to a deserted dock. Nie Jiuluo exited her car, sword in hand, as the two Earth Fiends concealed themselves nearby. Yan Tuo, unable to reach her, drove frantically, using his intuition to surmise she had been led to the dock. The two Earth Fiends launched a coordinated attack on Nie Jiuluo. She expertly subdued one of them, Han Guan, but the other fought fiercely, gravely wounding her.
As Nie Jiuluo struggled, the subdued Earth Fiend, Han Guan, seized the opportunity to stab her from behind, immobilizing her. Just as she was in dire peril, Yan Tuo arrived. He killed the attacking Earth Fiend and rushed to Nie Jiuluo's side, desperately trying to keep her conscious as she slipped into a daze. She had a flashback to her childhood, asking her mother where they were going, and her father promising a boat ride, before murmuring, "I won't go." Yan Tuo continued to try and keep her awake, telling her they were almost there.
