Meanwhile, a spy informed An Jingzhao that Chuyue was in critical condition, suffering from a severe coldness invasion after being hidden by An Jingling in a secret chamber. The spy warned that only someone with profound martial skills could extract the coldness to save her, and time was running out. Despite his own primordial energy being unharmonized, An Jingzhao insisted on rescuing her personally. He went to the chamber, where An Jingling was waiting.
An Jingling taunted him, noting his surprising survival from the Shenyuan Whip and warning that saving Chuyue would drain his martial skills, turning him into a "useless person" and costing him the lordship his father, An Chenghu, wanted him to inherit. Wracked with guilt, An Jingzhao imagined Chuyue calling him a hypocrite for prioritizing his power over her life. An Jingling, sensing his hesitation, bid him farewell. However, An Jingzhao entered the chamber anyway, finding Chuyue already trapped inside.
Shocked that he would knowingly walk into a trap for her, she declared her unwavering loyalty, vowing to never leave his side. As poisonous gas filled the room, An Jingzhao revealed his knowledge of a secret exit and helped her escape. An Jingling intercepted them, mocking An Jingzhao's weakened state. In the ensuing battle, An Jingzhao was injured by An Jingling's Art of Starshift but managed to get Chuyue to safety.
Later, Elder Yueming noted that An Jingzhao’s primordial energy was in disarray. An Jingzhao recounted that he had momentarily suppressed the Art of Starshift. Elder Yueming explained he had once theorized that combining righteous and evil primordial energies could counter the technique and even forged the Yueming Sword for this purpose, but abandoned his research after a personal tragedy.
He offered to transfer his own Beiming internal force to An Jingzhao, cautioning it would conflict painfully with An Jingzhao’s Profound Earth Sutra, but An Jingzhao accepted. Soon after, Bai Zhi arrived with a potent elixir to help replenish his qi and warned that An Jingling was intensifying the search for them. As she fled to warn him, An Chenghu ordered his guards to kill her to silence her. An Jingling arrived to find his mother dying. With her last breath, she tried to warn him about "Yue. . ." , likely meaning Yueming, but An Jingling tragically misinterpreted it as Chuyue.
