Love Better Than Immortality Episode 29 Recap
> Love Better Than Immortality Recap
In the cold expanse of Ice Valley, Shangguan Qiuyue, severely injured, lamented the frigid surroundings. Chunhua, ever considerate, brought him a quilt. She explained that Star Deputy Chief Ye was guarding the entrance, ensuring they had such provisions. As Chunhua fed him mooncakes, Qiuyue expressed his enjoyment of eating them with her but quickly feigned thirst and then teased her about how she offered him water. Annoyed, Chunhua turned away to warm herself by the fire.
Qiuyue, claiming his injuries made him entirely Chunhua’s responsibility, insisted she hold him. Though initially reluctant, Chunhua, feeling guilty, agreed, with Qiuyue stating he would only allow her to hold him. With Qiuyue nestled in her arms, he slowly drifted to sleep. Chunhua gazed at his sleeping face, finding herself mesmerized and muttering about him being a "demon."
She then mentally reminded herself of the "first-sight love law," asserting that the first man she saw was her true Mr. Right, and cautioned against letting destiny be altered. Suddenly, Qiuyue stirred, instinctively striking out, startling Chunhua. Realizing it was her, he quickly apologized for his reflex. Chunhua questioned Qiuyue's constant vigilance, even in sleep. Qiuyue then recounted his harsh upbringing in Ice Valley.
He explained that from a young age, his mother, Shangguan Hui, ruthlessly trained him daily with sneak attacks to hone his martial arts and reaction skills. If she succeeded even once, he would be deprived of food for an entire day, leading to his habit of barely sleeping. He recalled sneaking out at age five, falling into an icy stream, and being brutally beaten and starved for three days by Shangguan Hui when she discovered him.
He mentioned her only showing compassion for the ice silkworms she raised; at twelve, he burned them, leading to five days of starvation as punishment. Shangguan Hui’s motivation, he revealed, was to force him to avenge her abandonment by Xiao Yuan, Xiao Bai's father.
Chunhua expressed sympathy, acknowledging that Shangguan Hui, imprisoned in Ice Valley after Xiao Yuan abandoned her, likely had no other choices to survive, having associated with many men, some of whom she killed or led to their deaths. Qiuyue shared that he only learned Shangguan Hui was his mother upon her death. Every Mid-Autumn Festival, she would make him swear to kill Xiao Yuan, but ironically, she died before Xiao Yuan, who was then killed by her old friend.
Qiuyue praised Chunhua’s understanding, noting her difference from Hua Xiaolei, who wanted to expose his crimes. He promised to treat Chunhua well. Later, Qiuyue held Chunhua as they both drifted to sleep. He observed her peaceful sleeping face with contentment and gently kissed her forehead. Chunhua, half-awake, instinctively smiled upon seeing him, but then startled awake as she fully realized it was Qiuyue.
Later, Star Deputy Chief Ye confronted Star Deputy Chief Gu, who tried to persuade her to abandon Shangguan Qiuyue, promising her the title of Chief of Thousand Moon Cave if she helped eliminate him. However, Star Deputy Chief Ye had already poisoned him with Strength Dissipation Powder, not arsenic, explaining that the hearts of people in Thousand Moon Cave are treacherous.
His martial arts abolished, Star Deputy Chief Gu expressed his contentment and regretless feelings, accepting his fate before Star Deputy Chief Ye ordered him to leave and never return. Star Deputy Chief Ye then falsely informed Chunhua that Star Deputy Chief Gu was dead. She instructed Chunhua to remain in Ice Valley and care for Shangguan Qiuyue until his full recovery, citing lingering concerns about former subordinates from Legend Valley.
Chunhua and Qiuyue ate warm food together, with Chunhua expressing her satisfaction. Qiuyue once again complained of feeling cold and, despite Chunhua's suggestion to use the nearby brazier, deliberately burned his hand in the fire to elicit her concern and a comforting embrace. Meanwhile, Qin Liufeng and Leng Ning arrived at Eight Immortals Mansion to investigate. Qin Liufeng suggested they feign illness, with Leng Ning leaning on him, but she immediately rejected the idea. They then decided to enter openly.
Before they could, they encountered Li Yu. As they pursued him, Li Yu quickly used Medical Sage's acupuncture needles to seal Leng Ning's acupoints, rendering her immobile, before fleeing. Qin Liufeng, reassuring Leng Ning, claimed he knew the "method of crossing acupoints with silver needles" from Mr. Bu, though he admitted Mr. Bu no longer considered him a disciple.
Despite his low confidence, Qin Liufeng successfully unblocked Leng Ning's acupoints, jokingly attributing it to her fear, which provoked her to strike him, though he playfully caught her hand. Unexpectedly, Li Yu was waiting ahead for them, explaining he ran earlier out of fear of getting into trouble but then decided to clarify.
He stated his commitment to the junior leader's order to investigate the immortality fruit if it was linked to the puppet silver needles, as he was a disciple of Medical Sage. Qin Liufeng lamented that the clues were lost again. In the bamboo forest, assassins dispatched by Chief Leng ambushed Feng Caicai, intending to kill her to prevent her from uncovering the truth about Chief Feng's death.
Her cries for help alerted Xiao Bai, who was deep in thought near Medical Sage's residence. Xiao Bai swiftly intervened, brutally eliminating the black-clad attackers with fierce martial arts, leaving Feng Caicai stunned. He observed that their martial arts were common, and their training aimed to conceal their sect identity, suggesting a familiar culprit who wanted to halt their investigation, linking them to Medical Sage's death. They then proceeded to Medical Sage’s residence.
Feng Caicai noted the lack of struggle, implying a familiar perpetrator. Xiao Bai agreed, observing that Medical Sage died from a palm strike that severed his vital pulses, not a blade, indicating immense power. They acknowledged that Chunhua had been in a coma at the time, making her unable to witness the crime, and dismissed the Medical Sage's dying accusation of Chunhua, knowing her lack of martial arts.
Xiao Bai then deduced that the killer was likely someone who had broken into the Eight Immortals Medicine Hall in search of the immortality fruit and, failing to find it, brutally killed Medical Sage to prevent exposure. He concluded that the case might remain unsolved.
