Love Better Than Immortality Episode 17 Recap
> Love Better Than Immortality Recap
Chief Leng burst into a stone chamber, seeking the elusive Mr. Shi, with whom he had conspired to lure the orthodox sects. Having risked his own daughter in the scheme, Chief Leng vehemently demanded the immortality fruit as his reward. He accused Mr. Shi of not keeping his promise and threatened to expose him to the martial arts world if he refused, ensuring Mr. Shi's ruin.
The "Mr. Shi" he confronted offered five million taels instead, but Chief Leng scornfully rejected the money, insisting solely on the immortality fruit. Believing he could seize it by force, he attacked, only to discover that the person before him was a mere decoy. As Chief Leng turned his attention to a coffin in the chamber, just as he was about to open it, Leng Ning and the others arrived. Overjoyed to see her father safe, Leng Ning embraced him.
Fu Lou, however, opened the coffin, stating it wasn't what he sought but might interest them. To their shock, it revealed not the immortality fruit, but the body of Chief Feng. Xiao Bai immediately called for Feng Caicai, who collapsed in tears upon seeing her deceased father. Chief Leng then pointed to Fu Lou, accusing him of the murder.
Xiao Bai and the others confronted Fu Lou, who, proclaiming his clear conscience, disdained to offer any defense to "rats" like them and simply walked away. As they examined Chief Feng's body, Feng Caicai discovered he had been poisoned with a highly volatile substance. She touched her father and, overcome by the poison, fell unconscious. Many doctors were subsequently consulted, but none could find a cure for Feng Caicai.
Meanwhile, Shangguan Qiuyue, furious about Chunhua's departure, had sent his subordinate Ye Xingshi to buy nüerhong. Ye Xingshi cautiously informed him that Xiao Bai and his companions had fallen into the trap, then inquired if Shangguan Qiuyue was concerned about Chunhua's safety. With a hint of bitterness, Shangguan Qiuyue dismissed the worry, stating that the renowned Master Xiao was by her side.
Ye Xingshi further questioned why Shangguan Qiuyue had requested nüerhong from Bishui City instead of their usual ice liquor from Thousand Moon Cave. Annoyed by the questioning, Shangguan Qiuyue explained he was tired of ice liquor and wished to sample the taste of the human world. However, finding the nüerhong’s flavor disappointing and complex, he smashed the bottle in frustration, scattering its contents like snowflakes.
The brutal events of the auction left a deep impression on Leng Ning, who was particularly worried about Feng Caicai's injury and had to be comforted by Qin Liufeng. Xiao Bai was also deeply affected. He felt immense guilt for Chunhua’s distress and questioned the purpose of his long-standing protection of the common people and orthodox sects, feeling that human greed overshadowed all his efforts and casting doubt on his convictions.
Chunhua comforted him, reminding him of Senior Leader Xiao’s lifelong dedication to martial arts stability, even when suffering from poison, and his principle of doing what is right even if it seems impossible. She urged Xiao Bai not to despair and to believe in the inherent value of his protection, deeply touching him. That night, Chunhua was haunted by nightmares from the day's horrors and was on the verge of waking up in fear.
Shangguan Qiuyue appeared, acupointed her, and gently soothed her, helping her drift back into a peaceful sleep. The following morning, Qin Liufeng took Feng Caicai to Doctor Bu, the Medical Sage's younger brother, for her poisoning. Doctor Bu diagnosed the poison as "Dandelion," explaining its highly infectious nature and widespread dispersion. However, he admitted that while he knew its name, the antidote had long been lost, and he could only provide a prescription to sustain Feng Caicai for seven days.
He stressed that only the poisoner could provide the true antidote. When Qin Liufeng suggested Fu Lou, Doctor Bu clarified that Fu Lou was not skilled in making poisons, leading Chunhua to realize the poisoner was likely Shangguan Qiuyue. Frustrated by Doctor Bu's inability to cure Feng Caicai, Leng Ning resolved to confront Fu Lou herself for the antidote. Xiao Bai was consumed by guilt, believing that if he had returned sooner, the tragedy would have been avoided.
Chunhua consoled him again, emphasizing that the events in Bishui City were a nightmare and that he shouldn’t blame himself, as no one could have predicted such a disaster. Leng Ning went to Chuanqi Valley to find Fu Lou. Qin Liufeng followed her. To provoke Fu Lou, Leng Ning insulted You Si Furen. Fu Lou appeared and fought Leng Ning, injuring her. Qin Liufeng quickly intervened to help.
Fu Lou stated he would not kill them, as they had not yet experienced the true evils of human nature. Later, Qin Liufeng returned with the injured Leng Ning through the pouring rain, much to the relief of Xiao Bai and Chunhua. Leng Ning had caught a cold. Chunhua, determined to save Feng Caicai, decided to approach Shangguan Qiuyue for the antidote. Recalling her own journey of abandoning immortality for love, she reflected on the realities of fear and worry.
She then playfully tied herself up, and repeatedly called out "When will Chunhua and Qiuyue have an ending?" to her Ice Silkworm Pearl, hoping to summon him. When Shangguan Qiuyue, who had been secretly watching her, finally appeared after sensing her growing frustration, Chunhua, pretending to be abandoned, claimed Xiao Bai was foolish and incapable of protecting her, expressing a strong desire to return to Thousand Moon Cave with Shangguan Qiuyue.
Shangguan Qiuyue feigned difficulty with the knot, but Chunhua, amused, revealed it was a simple bow. He untied her, and they departed for Thousand Moon Cave. Upon arriving at Thousand Moon Cave, Chunhua sneezed and shivered from the cold, complaining that she was frozen awake and longed for a hot spring. Shangguan Qiuyue offered to send her back to Fengming Manor where Xiao Bai was, suggesting she could bathe in its hot spring.
Chunhua swiftly declined, insisting she was happiest only with Shangguan Qiuyue. She then subtly steered the conversation to Feng Caicai’s infectious poison, asking Shangguan Qiuyue to cure her and expressing trust that he would protect her from infection, despite the numerous poisons in Thousand Moon Cave. Shangguan Qiuyue, aware of her pretense, directly questioned her claims of not being cold.
Sensing her true discomfort, he enveloped her in his internal energy, warming her despite her continued insistence that she was not cold, revealing that he reserved this power only for her.
