Go Go Squid! Episode 37 Recap
> Go Go Squid! Recap
The highly anticipated farewell match for Team Solo began, with the audience hoping to see them return to the competitive arena. The original members, including Wang Hao, Gun God Han Shangyan, Mi Shaofei, and Ou Qiang, proudly wore the jerseys of K&K Team and SP Team, allowing their younger protégés to share in the glory. Wang Hao expressed his gratitude to the fans for remembering them, while Han Shangyan’s speech was as fiery as ever.
Han Shangyan acknowledged that while Team Solo members were still present on stage, they had transitioned to supporting the new generation from behind, embodying the spirit of "the new waves pushing the old." The audience, deeply moved by Han Shangyan's impassioned words, responded with overwhelming emotion, and Tong Nian was visibly teary-eyed. After the match, backstage, Tong Nian excitedly leaped onto Han Shangyan, declaring her affection and ownership. His friends and team members playfully teased them, giving them space.
Han Shangyan eventually promised to kiss her if she didn't get down, which made her shyly release her grip. Later that evening, Han Shangyan took Tong Nian to Beijing Station, a place of significant memory for him. He recounted his journey, arriving in Beijing at nineteen to join Wang Hao and the others. Despite being exhausted from the long train ride, meeting Wang Hao and the team invigorated him with the dream of forming a team, competing, and winning championships.
He shared how he used his inheritance, his father's education funds, to support their early efforts. Han Shangyan continued, explaining that after Team Solo disbanded, Wang Hao offered him the captaincy, but he refused, feeling that without Wang Hao leading, it wouldn't be the same team. Angered and pained, he returned to Norway and later founded K&K with the simple goal of reuniting his old teammates.
He rushed to establish the Chinese division, fearing they would retire before he could bring them back, only to find that all four of his former teammates had joined SP. Tong Nian listened attentively, assuring him she wasn't bored and enjoyed hearing about his past. She encouraged him to look forward, comparing life to the Earth's constant spin. Han Shangyan then revealed his remaining dream and presented her with his first championship ring, inscribed with "GUN," proposing marriage.
Tong Nian was taken aback, asking how they would tell her parents and expressing worry that they might not approve. Han Shangyan reminded her that their parents had already met. Tong Nian, overwhelmed and nervous, admitted it was her first proposal, feeling cold and seeing double. Seeing her distress, Han Shangyan took the ring back, explaining he had been too impulsive and would propose again when she was truly ready, without any doubts or hesitation.
Tong Nian immediately regretted her reaction. Back at the hotel, Tong Nian felt frustrated and called Yaya for advice on how to salvage the situation. Yaya was shocked, emphasizing the immense significance of Han Shangyan proposing with his first championship ring, especially after such an important farewell match. Meanwhile, Han Shangyan joined Wang Hao, Mi Shaofei, Ou Qiang, and other friends. They immediately sensed something was amiss and teased him about being rejected.
Han Shangyan clarified that he halted the proposal because Tong Nian was too nervous and he feared she might agree impulsively and regret it later, especially given their somewhat tumultuous journey. His friends playfully jabbed at him, calling him a "sissy" for not daring to pursue the girl he loves. To lift their spirits, they decided to go gaming all night, doing push-ups as punishment for losing.
Later that night, unable to sleep, Tong Nian sought out Wu Bai to ask about Han Shangyan's past relationships. Wu Bai confirmed that Tong Nian was Han Shangyan's first love and he had never been rejected before. He suggested that she might be the first person to genuinely like Han Shangyan for who he is, rather than his CTF achievements, noting that others would have been put off by his harsh demeanor.
Tong Nian confessed her love for Han Shangyan, describing him as the most special and charming person she had ever met. She also revealed her understanding of his awkwardness and lack of emotional expression due to a challenging childhood. When she confessed to having rejected the proposal, Wu Bai chuckled, saying it was a good thing, as it would create a sense of urgency for Han Shangyan and motivate him to learn how to love her better.
The next morning, an awkward atmosphere lingered between Han Shangyan and Tong Nian at breakfast. Remembering her friends' advice to compensate for the rejection, Tong Nian tried to cater to Han Shangyan, offering to get him food. Han Shangyan gently urged her to be herself and have her own opinions, not to simply accommodate him. Tong Nian, mistakenly believing he was still upset about the proposal, worried that he saw her as useless and lacking personality.
On the plane ride back to Shanghai, Tong Nian covered Han Shangyan with a blanket, still trying to please him. She eventually confronted him, asking if he was angry and if he thought she was unworthy. Han Shangyan admitted to being a little disappointed but denied being angry.
He explained that her constant efforts to accommodate his moods made her lose her own individuality, and he wanted her to be herself, desiring to be the one taking initiative in their relationship. He expressed his gratitude, telling her she had taught him how to love and asking her to wait for him as he continued to grow. Reassured by his words, Tong Nian leaned over and kissed his cheek twice. Later, Han Shangyan drove Tong Nian home.
When he learned her parents weren't there, he initially said he wouldn't go in but then changed his mind, stating it would be improper to pass by without entering. He promised to spend quality time with her after the Asian Championships.
