Chen Ting and Ling Xiao's aunt arrive, and Ling Xiao, worried about Li Jianjian being bullied, leaves work and rushes home. Li Jianjian, returning home, encounters them and uses her fingerprint to unlock Ling Xiao's door, allowing Chen Ting and Ling Xiao's aunt to enter. Chen Ting is displeased but conceals it. Li Jianjian kindly brings watermelon, but Chen Ting declines it, stating she doesn't like watermelon and deliberately dismisses Li Jianjian.
Li Jianjian, feeling rejected, returns to her home, lies on the sofa, and cries, also sad about a plagiarism issue. Ling Xiao arrives, noticing Li Jianjian's red eyes, assumes Chen Ting has bullied her. He immediately confronts Chen Ting, demanding to know what she did. Chen Ting, confused, thinks Li Jianjian has badmouthed her. Li Jianjian, realizing the misunderstanding, rushes over to explain, but Ling Xiao is angry, telling Chen Ting she can mistreat him, but not Li Jianjian.
Chen Ting, seeing Li Jianjian, demands to know what Li Jianjian told Ling Xiao. Li Jianjian tries to pull Ling Xiao away to stop the argument, but the fight has already begun. Chen Ting's pent-up emotions erupt, accusing Ling Xiao of focusing all his attention on Li Jianjian, Ling Heping, and even neighbors, but neglecting her as his mother. Ling Xiao interrupts, stating Ling Heping and Li Haichao love him, then asks Chen Ting why she doesn't.
Chen Ting is stunned into silence. Ling Xiao apologizes to his aunt and leaves with Li Jianjian, apologizing to Li Jianjian, who gently pats him, explaining her sadness wasn't due to Chen Ting. Ling Xiao's aunt later tries to incite Chen Ting further, suggesting Li Jianjian is manipulative and unsuitable for Ling Xiao, which causes Chen Ting to ponder deeply.
Li Jianjian then confides in Ling Xiao about her plagiarism problem: Yufei, a senior, had seen her "three close friends" design draft at her studio, plagiarized it, launched the product first, and then accused Li Jianjian of plagiarism. Li Jianjian needs the original photo of the design prototype to prove her innocence. Qi Mingyue took this photo, and Li Jianjian, Ling Xiao, and He Ziqiu each possessed a copy. Li Jianjian's copy is lost, and Ling Xiao can't find his.
Li Jianjian and Ling Xiao go to a cafe to ask He Ziqiu about his copy. He Ziqiu believes his photo is at Zhao Huaguang's house. While there, Qin Meiyang, overhearing their conversation, suggests He Ziqiu call Zhao Huaguang, but He Ziqiu dismisses her. Qin Meiyang then reveals that Ling Xiao's photo album wasn't lost; Chen Ting, in a fit of rage, had cut up all of his photos.
Ling Xiao tries to stop her, but Qin Meiyang insists they should know about Chen Ting's unstable behavior to be prepared. Qin Meiyang recounts that when Ling Xiao was nearing university graduation and planning to return home, Chen Ting became depressed and volatile, using her poor health as an excuse and yelling to prevent his return.
In a fit of rage, she instructed Qin Meiyang to throw away the shoes Li Jianjian had given Ling Xiao and also took Ling Xiao's photo album, including photos of him with Li Jianjian, cutting all the photos into pieces. Ling Xiao, furious, reprimanded Chen Ting, and Qin Meiyang, concerned about her mother's unstable emotions, intervened to take away the scissors.
Ling Xiao decided to leave, but Qin Meiyang desperately pleaded with him, revealing she had secretly retrieved the discarded shoes and confessing her fear of being left alone to care for Chen Ting due to her mother's unpredictable temperament. Ling Xiao, upon hearing this, still tried to leave, pushing the apartment door shut on the landing to prevent Qin Meiyang from following him.
After revealing these past events, Qin Meiyang, feeling sad and dejected, hides in the kitchen of the dessert shop where she works. He Ziqiu, after sending off Ling Xiao and Li Jianjian, crouches down to comfort her. He understands that Qin Meiyang shared these stories out of concern for Li Jianjian and Ling Xiao, despite her sharp tongue, but also reminds her that a sharp tongue can be hurtful.
Qin Meiyang confesses she believes Li Jianjian still resents her for a childhood incident where Qin Meiyang falsely accused Li Jianjian of pushing her down the stairs. He Ziqiu gently guides her, acknowledging her good heart but pointing out that Chen Ting's influence has made her accustomed to thinking the worst of people. He suggests she apologize directly to Li Jianjian, assuring her that Li Jianjian would not hold a grudge.
He Ziqiu later receives a call from his biological father, Zhao Huaguang, who sounds weary. Zhao Huaguang informs He Ziqiu that his grandfather has lung cancer and only a few months to live, wishing to see He Ziqiu before he passes away. He Ziqiu initially refuses.
When He Ziqiu calls Zhao Huaguang again specifically asking him to make a copy of the required photo, Zhao Huaguang, noting He Ziqiu's urgency for the photo, offers to copy it only if He Ziqiu agrees to visit his grandfather and spend his remaining days with him, trying to persuade He Ziqiu to fulfill his grandfather's dying wish. Meanwhile, Qi Mingyue seeks out Jin Yuxiang to discuss her and Qi's father's relationship.
Jin Yuxiang refuses to engage, saying their divorce is better for both her and Qi's father. Qi Mingyue apologizes, expressing deep regret for her immature rebellion and for hurting Jin Yuxiang. Jin Yuxiang clarifies that Qi Mingyue hurt herself, not her. Jin Yuxiang raises her hand as if to slap Qi Mingyue but instead slaps herself. Qi Mingyue hugs Jin Yuxiang, who breaks down, asking what she did wrong and why both Qi's father and Qi Mingyue are abandoning her.
Jin Yuxiang believes Qi Mingyue wants to escape her by going to Beijing. Qi Mingyue admits this was initially true, but now she wants to go to Beijing for her ideals. Separately, Zhuang Bei picks up Tang Can from her museum job after work, having bought two front-row tickets for a play. Tang Can is delighted and offers to treat Zhuang Bei to dinner.
During dinner, Tang Can speaks passionately and animatedly about acting, her eyes lighting up, while Zhuang Bei observes that she becomes gloomy when discussing her museum work. Tang Can expresses her helplessness, stating she needs to make a living. Recognizing her genuine love for acting, Zhuang Bei suggests she try stage plays, but Tang Can, having lost confidence, repeatedly claims she cannot do it.
Regarding the plagiarism issue, Zheng Shuran calls Li Jianjian, offering comfort and promising to find dirt on Yufei. Du Juan also calls Li Jianjian to inquire if the necessary photo has been found.
