Hongying suggested finding a day to let both families’ kids meet. Li Haichao felt awkward at the mahjong table, and when Xiao Zhu returned, he quickly excused himself, saying he needed to prepare ingredients. Aunt Qian felt he was too shy for his own good, while Hongying confidently said she would take the initiative in pursuing him. After leaving, Li Haichao tried to explain to Aunt Qian that he wasn’t interested in Hongying.

But Aunt Qian said that the real matchmaker was Li Jianjian. It was Jianjian who had asked her to help find someone for him—she was clearly worried about her father. Li Jianjian was eating watermelon and watching a movie in Ling Xiao’s room. She asked about what happened when Chen Ting first woke up. Ling Xiao recalled those difficult days.

When he first arrived in Singapore to care for Chen Ting, she had no feeling in her lower body and was completely bedridden, requiring daily massages and physical therapy. No one knew if she would ever walk again. With no other option but to trust the doctors, both Chen Ting and Ling Xiao endured. Chen Ting was in constant misery, incontinent because of her paralysis—the most painful and humiliating part of the condition.

She even attempted suicide by cutting her wrists. After being rescued, she became even more irritable, constantly arguing with Ling Xiao and demanding to be discharged, saying she didn’t want to live like an animal locked in a hospital. When she finally returned home, her mood didn’t improve and she attempted suicide again. Ling Xiao’s burn on his shoulder came from when Chen Ting accidentally spilled a pot of boiling porridge on him during an emotional outburst.

Fearing another suicide attempt, Ling Xiao sat outside her room every night, listening for any noise. One night, he heard a sound and rushed in, only to find her trying out her crutches. She said she wanted to visit the rehab center the next day to ask about treatment. In that moment, Ling Xiao finally felt a glimmer of hope. Li Jianjian was heartbroken after hearing all this.

Gently patting his hand, she said she would love him well from now on. He Mei brought Dongdong to a buffet. While getting food, she lost sight of him. After a frantic search, she found him at the dessert station where a pastry chef was handing him candy. Relieved, she looked up to thank the chef—and saw it was He Ziqiu. Surprised, she asked if he had closed his café.

He didn’t answer, only saying he had gone back to work. Later, while taking out the trash, He Ziqiu found a stray puppy beside the bin. Feeling that the puppy, like him, was unwanted, his heart softened, and he took it home. When he arrived downstairs, Li Jianjian ran into him. She called out twice, but he quickened his pace and ignored her. She chased after him, but slipped on the pavement and fell.

Only then did He Ziqiu turn back. Li Jianjian followed He Ziqiu home and helped bathe the dog. Though He Ziqiu had been cold toward her lately, she still cared about him. She asked if he truly saw her as family. After he confirmed, she told him she believed true family came from mutual love and care.

Marriage could make people family for a time, but if they stopped caring, that bond would break—just like Ling Heping and Chen Ting, or He Mei and Zhao Huaguang. The same nearly happened between her, He Ziqiu, and Ling Xiao. Not because they didn’t return, but because none of them shared their true feelings. That truth included both joy and pain.

He Ziqiu understood she was trying to tell him not to carry everything alone, but he really didn’t want to upset her by sharing his sadness. Li Jianjian said she only got upset when she worried about him, and felt awful when he ignored her. Her words comforted He Ziqiu greatly. The next day, the three of them returned to the noodle shop for a meal. Li Jianjian picked food for Ling Xiao. The two exchanged smiles.

Seeing this, He Ziqiu felt uneasy. Noticing his expression, Li Jianjian quickly gave him some food too. He Ziqiu then laid down three rules: first, she couldn’t treat him and Ling Xiao differently; second, if he and Ling Xiao argued, she had to take his side; third, if Ling Xiao ever mistreated her, he would beat him up. Just as Ling Xiao was about to respond, Li Jianjian poked him and told him to just agree. Ling Xiao gave in.

Xiao Zhu came over and mentioned that Hongying intended to pursue Li Haichao, but he didn’t seem interested. As they were talking, Li Haichao and Hongying returned with groceries, chatting and laughing. The trio quickly stood to greet her. Li Haichao sent Hongying to the kitchen and stayed to chat. Li Jianjian supported the idea of him being with Hongying, but he insisted he was fine living with Ling Heping.

Ling Xiao remarked that Ling Heping did nothing but throw money around and left everything else to others. He added that unlike Ling Heping, he would prioritize family over career. Li Haichao was touched by this and praised Ling Xiao for being mature, saying any woman who married him would be incredibly lucky. Taking the opportunity, Ling Xiao grabbed Li Jianjian’s hand and said Li Haichao could entrust her to him.

Li Haichao followed along with the conversation until he suddenly realized something was off. He turned around and saw them holding hands, and was stunned. Speechless, Li Haichao stared at the two. Li Jianjian quickly pushed him into the kitchen, telling him to help Hongying with the toppings. Afterward, Li Haichao asked Ling Xiao to leave and spoke to Li Jianjian privately, asking what was going on between them.

Meanwhile, Zhuang Bei’s mother had placed another order at Tang Can’s shop. When Tang Can and Zhuang Bei met, she wanted him to clarify things with his mother. But Zhuang Bei pleaded with Tang Can for help—his mom had already bragged to relatives that Tang Can was his girlfriend. While they were arguing, Tang Can saw a photo of Qi Mingyue on Zhuang Bei’s phone and realized he had feelings for Qi Mingyue. Furious, she turned and walked away.
