Mrs. Qian introduced Hongying to Li Haichao as a potential match, but Li Haichao felt uncomfortable. Hongying suggested he call her Hongying instead of Teacher Zhang, but Li Haichao was overly polite. After the mahjong game, Li Haichao confided in Mrs. Qian that he didn't think he and Hongying were a good fit. Mrs. Qian was displeased and scolded him.
She suspected Li Haichao still had feelings for He Mei, but he denied it, saying He Mei was remarried with a child. Mrs. Qian told Li Haichao that it was Li Jianjian who asked her to find someone for him, because Li Jianjian was worried about him. Later, Mrs. Qian ran into Li Jianjian, who said she was fine with Li Haichao remarrying as long as the person was healthy and had no bad habits.
Li Jianjian was so talkative that Mrs. Qian thought she would be great at matchmaking. Li Jianjian shared watermelon with Ling Xiao. Ling Xiao recalled the difficult time when his mother, Chen Ting, was in the hospital in Singapore. She was paralyzed from the waist down and unable to control her bodily functions. In the beginning, Ling Xiao resented caring for her, but as time went on, he began to feel sympathy as he watched her struggle.
Chen Ting lost hope and attempted suicide by cutting her wrists in the bathroom. After being rescued, she remained despondent. After being discharged, Chen Ting would lash out and threw hot porridge at Ling Xiao, burning his shoulder. Ling Xiao, worried she would try again, sat in the living room every night listening for sounds from her room.
One day, he heard a noise and rushed in, finding Chen Ting trying to use crutches and wanting to go to the rehabilitation center. He finally felt a glimmer of hope. Li Jianjian felt sorry for Ling Xiao and promised to take good care of him in the future. He Mei took Dongdong to a buffet. While getting food, Dongdong wandered off and He Mei found him in the dessert area with He Ziqiu, who was working there.
He Mei was surprised and asked if his shop had closed, but he didn't answer. He Ziqiu later found a stray dog near the trash and took it home. Li Jianjian ran into He Ziqiu and helped him bathe the dog. Li Jianjian confronted He Ziqiu about his coldness towards her, asking if he still considered her family.
After he affirmed, she told him that family is about caring for and cherishing each other, and that marriage is only a temporary form of family. She added that if family members don't cherish each other, the relationship will break, like Ling Heping and Chen Ting, and He Mei and Zhao Huaguang. Li Jianjian and He Ziqiu's and Ling Xiao's relationship almost broke because they didn't share their true feelings, both the good and the bad.
He Ziqiu didn't want to burden Li Jianjian with his unhappiness, but Li Jianjian said she's only unhappy when he's not being open with her. He Ziqiu was moved by her words. The stray dog escaped the bathroom. The next day at the noodle shop, Li Jianjian gave Ling Xiao food, and they smiled at each other. He Ziqiu looked uncomfortable. Noticing, Li Jianjian gave He Ziqiu food as well.
He Ziqiu said he wanted to make three rules we must observe: first, Li Jianjian couldn't treat him and Ling Xiao differently; second, if Ling Xiao and he fought, Li Jianjian had to side with him; and third, if Ling Xiao treated Li Jianjian badly, he would beat him up. Ling Xiao was about to say something, but Li Jianjian nudged him, and he agreed.
Xiaozhu told Li Jianjian that Hongying was planning to pursue Li Haichao, but he wasn't keen on the idea. As they were talking, Li Haichao and Hongying returned from grocery shopping together. Li Jianjian, Ling Xiao and He Ziqiu greeted Hongying. Li Haichao sent Hongying to the kitchen and told them he and Ling Heping were helping each other, but Ling Xiao said Ling Heping was only a hands-off parent who just provided money.
Ling Xiao also said that he was different and that he would prioritize family over career. Li Haichao was pleased and said whoever married Ling Xiao would be very happy. Ling Xiao took Li Jianjian's hand and said Li Haichao could trust him with her. Li Haichao started to agree before realizing what was happening and froze. Li Jianjian pushed Li Haichao into the kitchen to help Hongying.
Later, Li Haichao went home and sent Ling Xiao out to buy ointment, intending to talk to Li Jianjian alone. He specifically asked Li Jianjian how she and Ling Xiao are with each other. Ling Heping dropped Ling Xiao off at his place, and Ling Xiao asked about his health. Ling Heping avoided the topic and told Ling Xiao not to stay up too late and to rest more. Mrs. Zhuang placed another order at Tang Can's shop.
Tang Can met Zhuang Bei to tell Mrs. Zhuang the truth, but Zhuang Bei begged her to help him because Mrs. Zhuang had already bragged to her relatives that Tang Can was his girlfriend. During the argument, Tang Can saw that Zhuang Bei's phone wallpaper was a picture of Qi Mingyue and understood that Zhuang Bei liked Qi Mingyue. Tang Can realized Zhuang Bei liked Qi Mingyue after seeing that he used a photo of her on his phone, and she was devastated and went home to cry.
