Li Jianjian, Ling Xiao, and He Ziqiu were applying face masks at home, chatting idly. Li Jianjian reflected on her relationship with He Ziqiu, noting that while they used to share everything, a "gap" had formed, making them feel like strangers unable to return to their former closeness. She agreed with Tang Can's thoughts and felt her mood improve after deciding how to approach Ling Xiao and He Ziqiu.
To make Li Haichao and Ling Heping happy, she decided to invite them for a belated birthday dinner for Ling Heping the next evening. The following morning, she quickly informed He Ziqiu, suggesting he, as a skilled pastry maker, could bake a cake for Ling Heping. He Ziqiu was pleased by her change in attitude but also pondered how to face Li Haichao.
He later realized Li Jianjian had used "my dad" instead of "our dad" when referring to her father, a subtle but significant shift in their perceived relationship. Meanwhile, at the stomatological hospital, Ling Xiao comforted a crying little girl who refused to see a doctor. He cleverly distracted her with a toy stick, and she stopped crying, asking him to check her teeth.
Feng Xixi, the girl's original doctor who feared children, signaled Ling Xiao to take over, which he agreed to. Later, Feng Xixi, who had developed a crush on Ling Xiao, approached him at a cafe. Ling Xiao maintained his distance, openly stating he had a sister and a brother. He Ziqiu finally gathered the courage to return home, going to Li Haichao's noodle restaurant. Li Haichao, busy in the kitchen, recognized He Ziqiu the moment he stepped out.
Father and son, separated for years, were overwhelmed with emotion. He Ziqiu’s eyes welled up, and he immediately knelt to express his gratitude to Li Haichao. Li Haichao quickly helped him up and hugged him tightly. The front desk clerk, recognizing He Ziqiu from a photo on the counter of him, Li Jianjian, and Ling Xiao, and from Li Haichao often talking about the three of them, guessed he might want sweet and sour spare ribs noodles.
He Ziqiu wasn't sure what to order, but Li Haichao, hearing the clerk, realized his son was back. After they returned home, Li Haichao hesitated before asking about Zhao Huaguang's reaction to He Ziqiu's return. He Ziqiu dismissed Zhao Huaguang, saying he couldn't control him. Li Haichao, acknowledging Zhao Huaguang had paid for He Ziqiu's tuition fees and living expenses for years, cautioned him not to hurt Zhao Huaguang's feelings, though he dropped the subject when He Ziqiu showed reluctance.
He Ziqiu noticed his old room had been tidied and asked if someone had been living there. Li Haichao smiled, revealing Li Jianjian had called that day mentioning an extra person coming, and also admitted knowing about He Ziqiu's earlier secret visit to the noodle restaurant, thus guessing his return. Li Haichao asked when He Ziqiu would move back, and He Ziqiu replied he was living with Ling Xiao.
Li Jianjian, busy in her studio, received a confession text from Ran, an online friend she had known for a long time. They had previously arranged to meet at an exhibition but missed it due to He Ziqiu's mix-up. Conflicted, Li Jianjian confided in her senior, Du Juan. Du Juan encouraged her to date, suggesting love might bring new creative inspiration.
However, upon learning Ran had confessed, Du Juan noted that Ran's works showed an almost divine worship of women, which she described as beautiful yet fragile. Based on her own dating experience, Du Juan suggested people like Ran were often "ugly" and advised Li Jianjian to see Ran's photo first. On her way home, Li Jianjian passed a puddle, triggering childhood memories of her and He Ziqiu playing and jumping in puddles.
She recalled one instance where He Ziqiu fell, and Ling Xiao arrived to pull him up. That evening, the five family members — Li Jianjian, Ling Xiao, He Ziqiu, Li Haichao, and Ling Heping — gathered at home for Ling Heping's birthday celebration, happily eating and drinking. He Ziqiu presented Ling Heping with a handmade cake but forgot the candles.
Ling Xiao offered to retrieve them, but He Ziqiu pulled him back, insisting he would go, inadvertently revealing a scar on Ling Xiao's shoulder. He Ziqiu repeatedly questioned him about the injury. Ling Heping also asked why Ling Xiao had never mentioned it, to which Ling Xiao retorted that Ling Heping himself had never mentioned his own broken leg and concussion from a mission. He Ziqiu was surprised, having never known this.
Li Jianjian, annoyed, interjected that even if they had been told, they couldn't have rushed back to care for them, leaving He Ziqiu speechless. The atmosphere grew awkward, and Li Jianjian, feeling she had spoken inappropriately, quickly urged everyone to continue eating. During the celebration, He Ziqiu gave gifts to everyone except Ling Xiao, jokingly apologizing for not having a present for him.
Ling Xiao, realizing He Ziqiu was trying to embarrass him, pretended indifference and announced he also hadn't bought a gift for He Ziqiu, calling them even. After dinner, Ling Xiao wanted to share a taxi with Li Jianjian to take her home, but He Ziqiu insisted she ride in his car. Initially, they thought he had bought a car, but it turned out to be a second-hand electric motorcycle bought online, which He Ziqiu struggled to start.
Li Jianjian received a message and laughed happily. When Ling Xiao asked who it was, she replied it was her boyfriend. Without waiting for He Ziqiu to start his bike, she left to catch a taxi. Ling Xiao and He Ziqiu exchanged surprised glances, astonished that Li Jianjian had a boyfriend. Feeling uneasy, He Ziqiu quickly rode his motorcycle to chase Li Jianjian, who was in a car. She was unaware he was following.
After chasing for a while, his bike broke down, forcing him to push it. While waiting at a traffic light, He Ziqiu saw a woman strongly resembling He Mei in a passing car. Startled by the sight of his mother, he let go of the electric bike, which fell to the ground. By the time he recovered from his shock, the car was too far away to catch.
Meanwhile, Li Jianjian was on the phone in her car, discussing her situation with her two brothers, wondering why they now looked at her differently, just like when they first met.
