Ever Night Season 2 Episode 7 Recap
> Ever Night Season 2 Recap
Qu Ni, serving as the State Preceptor of Yuelun, confronted Tang State, accusing Ning Que of openly protecting the Daughter of the Lord of Deceased at the Yulan Festival and causing Master Bao Shu’s death. She demanded an explanation from Emperor Li Zhongyi, threatening to die in front of the palace gates with a prepared coffin if her demands were not met.
Li Qingshan attempted to reason with her, suggesting that cultivators' clashes often lead to matters of life and death, and that as The Greatest of Tian Qing, she should visit the South Branch. Qu Ni dismissed his attempts, insisting that Tang State had been evasive regarding the Daughter of the Lord of Deceased and was now clearly protecting her. She demanded a resolution, stating she would not leave the palace gates until Tang provided one.
Li Qingshan then revealed that Li Zhongyi had already sent West-Defending General Shu Cheng with Tang’s heavy cavalry to Congling, prepared to advance on Yuelun's capital, Chaoyang City, should Qu Ni persist in her defiance. Qu Ni was outraged, branding their actions as despicable and shameless.
Three days later, Xiong Chumo, in his capacity as the Divine Seat, initiated a public trial for Mo Shanshan, accusing her of aiding the escape of Ning Que and the Daughter of the Lord of Deceased, which resulted in Master Bao Shu’s death. He urged her to confess, warning of the impending eternal night and the pain facing mortals. He offered to spare her if she admitted guilt and severed ties with them.
Mo Shanshan, however, maintained her innocence, clarifying that she only helped her friend Sangsang escape an assassination. Xiong Chumo then threatened the safety of State Dahe and Mochi Garden, but Mo Shanshan remained unyielding. Luo Kedi brought in Sister Zhuo to coerce Mo Shanshan. Unwilling to burden Mo Shanshan, Sister Zhuo tragically took her own life. Heartbroken, Mo Shanshan unleashed all her cultivation power in resistance but was quickly subdued.
Ye Hongyu, the High Priest of Jurisdiction, then declared Mo Shanshan guilty of an unforgivable crime and sentenced her to imprisonment in the hidden boudoir, awaiting execution. Meanwhile, Ning Que watched the frail Sangsang, recalling Mo Shanshan's sacrifices for their safety. He cried out in anguish and frustration. Li Qingshan eventually persuaded Qu Ni to rest at the South Temple and returned to the palace.
Li Zhongyi was furious that Bao Shu’s coffin remained at his palace gates, mockingly asking if it had become a funeral parlor. He ordered Xu Chongshan to remove it. Li Qingshan intervened, advising against such a hasty act, which could anger countless followers of the revered Master Bao Shu and undermine Tang’s moral standing. He urged patience to demonstrate Tang’s generosity. Li Zhongyi then demanded to know Qu Ni's true intentions and had Li Qingshan read her national letter.
The letter condemned Ning Que's actions, demanding his expulsion from the Academy and his pursuit by the Tang army. Enraged, Li Zhongyi ordered Li Qingshan to tear the letter. He declared that Ning Que and Sangsang were Tang citizens and would not be abandoned. He dismissed the concepts of "Eternal Night" and the "Daughter of the Lord of Deceased" as mere rumors, challenging anyone to prove their existence, even mocking the idea of shaking a bell to identify her.
Despite Li Qingshan's concerns about the rumors potentially being true, Li Zhongyi adamantly stated they couldn't be. He then instructed Li Qingshan to keep Qu Ni under control and ordered Xu Chongshan to burn Bao Shu’s coffin, proclaiming that his emperor was "no loser." Ye Hongyu personally escorted Mo Shanshan to the hidden boudoir, sealing the entrance with her Willpower.
Mo Shanshan, resigned to her fate, asked Ye Hongyu to tell anyone who came to rescue her not to waste their effort, as her mind was made up. The next morning, Qu Ni found Bao Shu’s coffin and body burned to ashes outside the palace. Enraged, she vowed revenge and tried to storm the palace, but was blocked by Imperial Guards.
Li Qingshan tried to dissuade her, but Qu Ni, undeterred, questioned his authority and insulted Sage, calling him an "old coward" hiding in the Academy. From afar, Sage sensed Qu Ni's disrespectful words and, using his power, forcefully sent her back to Yuelun State. Sangsang slowly awoke in the desert, unable to recall previous events. Ning Que was distressed, and they found themselves in an unfamiliar landscape. Sangsang, however, recognized the mountains, rocks, and sky from her dreams.
She suddenly remembered she was the Daughter of the Lord of Deceased and ran towards a cliff. Ning Que pursued her, vehemently insisting she was only Sangsang, and that no one, neither the Lord of the Deceased nor "those damn losers," could take her from him. Sangsang expressed fear of destroying the world and him. Ning Que pulled her back, refusing to believe, and vowed that they would face everything together, having fought too hard to die easily.
They embraced, pledging to remain inseparable. Meanwhile, Slow Li continued his fruitless search for Ning Que and Sangsang in the desert. At the Academy, Jun Mo presented Sage with his poorly made spicy and sour noodle soup. Sage, finding it unsatisfying, lamented Sangsang's absence and the fact that Slow Li was also gone searching for them, leaving him with Jun Mo's cooking. Chen Pipi burst in, pleading with Sage to save Mo Shanshan.
Sage, however, was more interested in food, dismissing Mo Shanshan's plight by saying she was a "pretty girl" and wouldn't die. He urged Chen Pipi to bring him a self-heating hot pot, which he devoured with satisfaction, reiterating that Mo Shanshan would be fine. In the hidden boudoir, Mo Shanshan diligently practiced calligraphy. Ye Hongyu commended her as the "Book-Addict" but advised her against being swayed by emotions.
Mo Shanshan explained that her love for books was precisely what led "him" into her heart, thus it was no burden. Ye Hongyu warned her about defending the "one who stands for Daughter of the Deceased." Mo Shanshan reminded Ye Hongyu of Sangsang’s kindness when Ye Hongyu was vulnerable and how Ning Que had saved her from Lian Sheng. Ye Hongyu pressed Mo Shanshan to consider her own impending sentence.
Mo Shanshan calmly stated she would make the same choices again, without regret, and found dying for love a satisfying experience. Ye Hongyu observed that Mo Shanshan, too, had adopted "his" habit of calling others "losers." Mo Shanshan then asked Ye Hongyu if she had ever loved a man. Ye Hongyu expressed her hatred for men, especially Ning Que, and reaffirmed her past vow to kill him.
Mo Shanshan pointed out that Ning Que was now the world’s enemy, and many sought his death, questioning if Ye Hongyu would still attack him if they met again. Luo Kedi also reported to Xiong Chumo that Qu Ni's efforts to pressure Tang had failed, as Sage had struck her back to Yuelun.
Xiong Chumo was unfazed, revealing that he had used Qu Ni's distraction to set up the Great Formation of Confinement at Peach Mountain, ensuring that any Academy members attempting to rescue Mo Shanshan would perish there. He left Mo Shanshan's fate to Ye Hongyu, instructing her to resolve the matter as the new High Priest of Jurisdiction.
