> Ever Night Season 2 Recaps
The former Temple Master of Zhishou Temple, Chen Mou, confronted Slow Li, acknowledging that Green Gorge was the main battlefield for West Shrine and Tang State. Admitting he was not as skilled as Jun Mo, Chen Mou explained his presence was to watch Slow Li, whom he recognized as the Academy's highest-ranked disciple and thus the greatest threat to West Shrine.
Slow Li, aware that Chen Mou's cultivation was superior, welcomed the challenge, stating that the Academy would benefit from this confrontation. Chen Mou declared he could ignore Slow Li, but Slow Li asserted he couldn't, because Slow Li had "learned how to fight." Chen Mou then warned that Slow Li could only delay him for seven days, after which he would step into the Tang State palace to kill Li Hubo.
Slow Li retorted that no one could predict what would happen in seven days, and vowed to defend Tang to the death. Meanwhile, at Zhishou Temple, Chen Pipi observed his uncle arranging the "Ponding the fish and caging the bird" formation. He immediately recognized it as a powerful array designed to combat great cultivators in the Stage of No-Distance.
Chen Pipi, confused, wondered why his uncle would use such an intricate formation to trap him, as he had not yet reached that formidable stage. At the Academy, Song Qian and Eighth Brother courageously faced Xiong Chumo, recalling a defiant saying from their Youngest Uncle: "Even thousands of people are in front me, if I want to go, then I'll go." Despite their bravery, Xiong Chumo easily defeated them, sending them into the water.
Yu Lian then arrived to confront Xiong Chumo, leading him to the Academy's back mountain. Xiong Chumo initially underestimated her, demanding the formation key. He dismissed her as being merely in the Stage of All-Seeing, but Yu Lian, without fear, instantly elevated herself to the peak of the Stage of All-Knowing, an achievement Xiong Chumo found truly astonishing.
He insisted she was still no match, offering to spare her life if she handed over the formation key, out of respect for Sage. Yu Lian, in turn, offered to spare him for his stupidity. She mocked the declining West Shrine, stating that even their former Hierarch would not dare be so arrogant in front of her. Xiong Chumo, taken aback, asked her identity.
Yu Lian, activating the Twenty-three years of Cicada, revealed herself to be Lin Wu, the youngest and last Suzerain of the Demonic Cult. She recounted how her sect was almost annihilated by West Shrine, leaving her severely wounded until Sage saved her by the Burning Sea, changing her life forever. Xiong Chumo expressed disdain for her joining Sage, but Yu Lian affirmed Sage's status as an eternal teacher.
Xiong Chumo declared his intention to eliminate her, but Yu Lian countered that he was no match for her decades ago and certainly not now, again offering him a chance to live if he blinded himself. She reiterated her quest for truth, not invincibility, and condemned West Shrine's defamation of her as a devil.
Xiong Chumo, though he knew he was no match for Yu Lian, continued to denounce her as a demonic sorceress and unleashed the Divine Skill of God-Inspiring, shaking the heavens and earth. Yu Lian faltered momentarily, but Sage's voice resonated in her mind, reminding her, "Divine Skill of God-Inspiring is nothing. And he is nothing but a clown." Sage encouraged her to meditate and contemplate, to "ignore the world, disregard natural law. That's your own world."
Yu Lian echoed this, stabilizing her mind. Xiong Chumo, in his arrogance, dismissed her as a "clown." Using the Demonic Cult's techniques, Yu Lian swiftly defeated Xiong Chumo in just two rounds, leaving him with his inner powers consumed and cultivation lost, sending him back to West Shrine for the Academy's greater plans. Song Qian and Eighth Brother, witnessing Yu Lian's immense power, were awestruck and full of praise.
They acknowledged her true identity as the Demonic Cult Suzerain and expressed their admiration. Yu Lian, confirming she was heading to the capital to assist Ning Que, entrusted the Academy's protection to them. In the capital, Ning Que was struggling to find a way to repair the formation key when Yu Lian arrived. Upon seeing her summon the Twenty-three years of Cicada, Ning Que finally realized she was the Suzerain of the Demonic Cult.
He recalled that during his decisive battle with Xia Hou at Yanming Lake, Sage had dispatched his senior disciples to ensure a fair fight, and it was Yu Lian, with the Twenty-three years of Cicada, who had intercepted Qi Nian, a powerful cultivator attempting to aid Xia Hou.
Ning Que marveled at Yu Lian's youthful appearance, which belied her nearly a hundred years of age, and asked about a trigger ring she had given him before his journey to the Badlands. Yu Lian revealed it bore symbols of the Lord of the Deceased or Haotian, and Ning Que understood that it was the reason the Badlands people had protected him and Sangsang at great cost. He thanked her.
Yu Lian then reminded him of her earlier offer to introduce him to a powerful teacher, and observed how he had since encountered Liansheng and learned the Youngest Uncle's Magnanimous Qi, ultimately "deviating" into demonic cultivation, prompting Ning Que to wonder if destiny truly existed. Yu Lian recounted her first meeting with Sage after the Demonic Cult's destruction, where he advised her to follow her heart.
She playfully described how she tested this advice by stepping on Sage's robe, causing him to fall, which she realized later was his way of cheering her up. Both Ning Que and Yu Lian expressed their deep affection and remembrance for Sage, believing he was watching over them from the heavens. Ning Que and Yu Lian reactivated the formation key, observing that the Grand Formation had several blocked points, making the capital "very congested."
Yu Lian stressed that Ning Que had a mere seven days to repair it, explaining the critical situation: Slow Li could only hold Chen Mou for seven days, and Jun Mo and his companions at Qingxia also needed to resist the West Shrine army for the same duration to truly resolve Tang's predicament. Tang State faced three major threats: the Golden Horde from the north, the allied forces of West Shrine and South Jin from the south, and Chen Mou.
With the West Shrine pressing on Qingxia and no Tang troops yet in the south, the seven-day window was crucial, as it was also the time required for reinforcements to arrive from the capital. Yu Lian concluded that the fate of Tang State hinged on these two battlefields—the capital and Qingxia—and Ning Que's ability to restore the capital's God-Startling Formation within seven days, a task he had no confidence in.
At Qingxia, High Priest of Jurisdiction Luo Kedi, Liu Bai, and Ye Hongyu led a million West Shrine cavalry. Upon entering a mountain pass, they unexpectedly fell into an ambush, scattering their forces. After regrouping, the West Shrine cavalry again advanced, only to be met by Jun Mo and six other Academy disciples. Ye Hongyu, eager for a challenge, declared Jun Mo the opponent she most desired to face.
Luo Kedi taunted them, proclaiming that even Sage couldn't defeat their forces. Jun Mo countered, stating that while Sage fought Haotian, the disciples would fight in the human world, and the outcome of their battle would soon be clear.
Jun Mo, after donning the strongest armor crafted by his Fourth and Sixth Brothers, proclaimed his readiness to fight the million West Shrine cavalry alone, invoking Sage's watchful presence and a defiant spirit: "Even though there are thousands of people in front of me, if I want to fight, I'll fight." Luo Kedi commanded the West Shrine cavalry to charge. Jun Mo and the six Academy disciples braced for impact.
Ninth Brother Beigong Weiyang and Tenth Brother Ximen Buhuo were the first to engage, their combined music from zither and flute resonating powerfully enough to knock back the cavalry. Luo Kedi personally struck them down, then ordered archers to unleash a volley of arrows. Jun Mo quickly called back Beigong Weiyang and Ximen Buhuo, stepping forward to face the countless arrows alone. Seventh Sister Mu You swiftly intervened, deflecting the arrows.
Witnessing the diverse and effective skills of the Academy disciples, Liu Bai praised Sage's "Education Without Discrimination," wondering if Sage had foreseen this day when he recruited them. Luo Kedi intended to overwhelm the Academy's cultivators with continuous attacks, but Ye Hongyu challenged Jun Mo directly. Jun Mo, adhering to the Academy's tradition of valuing meals above all else, proposed resuming the fight after dinner. Recognizing this custom, Ye Hongyu agreed to postpone the battle until the next day.
Jun Mo then, for the first time, openly praised Beigong Weiyang and Ximen Buhuo for their performance, much to their surprise and delight. He encouraged them to rest, declaring that he would personally lead the charge against the West Shrine cavalry the following day. Mu You, in a lighthearted moment, prepared chicken feet for everyone, explaining it as "You are what you eat."
