Ever Night Season 2 Episode 37 Recap
> Ever Night Season 2 Recaps
After the negotiations concluded, Ye Hongyu prepared to return to West Shrine and met with Mo Shanshan to bid her farewell. Mo Shanshan expressed her disdain for Hierarch Xiong Chumo, who was waging war against Tang State under the pretense of upholding justice. Ye Hongyu, committed to defending the Tao of Heaven, accused Mo Shanshan of disrespecting it. Mo Shanshan retorted that their war, which caused widespread death and displacement, was itself an act against the Tao of Heaven.
Ye Hongyu insisted that Tang State's desecration of the righteous path of Light led to its demise. Mo Shanshan firmly believed Tang State would not perish and voiced her conviction that Sangsang, Ning Que's natal object and life, was not truly dead, as Ning Que would perish if he forgot her. Ye Hongyu admitted she spared Ning Que because she pitied the thought of him living in such sorrow if Sangsang were truly gone.
She then departed, and Mo Shanshan mentioned she would be returning to Dahe State and hoped they would meet again. Long Qing sought out Lu Chenjia, hoping to rekindle their past relationship. However, Lu Chenjia had already moved on and held no resentment towards him or anyone.
She explained that her "snow lotus," a symbol of her feelings, had withered long ago, and while she once felt joy and sorrow for it, she now understood that the story's ending was not as important as the love they once shared. Long Qing was deeply saddened by her resolute words. Mo Shanshan later arranged to meet Ning Que at the spot where they first met. Ning Que remained somber and silent.
As Mo Shanshan reminisced about their time together, she felt a mix of emotions. She announced her departure, but Ning Que tried to persuade her to stay a few more days. Mo Shanshan declined, unwilling to prolong the emotional entanglement, and turned to leave. After walking a few steps, she turned back one last time and promised Ning Que that she would wait for him and Sangsang in Dahe State.
Ning Que watched her receding figure, a profound sadness in his heart. Following Mo Shanshan's departure, Ning Que spent his days drinking alone in his carriage, clinging to Sangsang's lingering scent and longing for her return. The return of his carriage by the Drinker, along with the Heavenly Maid's message—"All death in the world means to meet again after a long separation"—which Ning Que recognized as Sangsang's words, filled him with hope.
He wondered about Blacky, the horse, which had not returned with the carriage, suspecting it might be with Sangsang. Ning Que drifted into sleep, dreaming of Sangsang returning and affectionately embracing him. He awoke to an empty carriage, vowing to travel to the ends of the earth to find Sangsang and bring her home, whether she was alive or dead. Meanwhile, Sangsang, in the guise of an ordinary girl, took Heavenly Maid to a roadside noodle stall.
Heavenly Maid was initially uncooperative, but Sangsang urged her on, and she eventually devoured a large bowl of noodles. Heavenly Maid expressed her desire to return to Heaven and made her way to Peach Mountain, where she was greeted by the High Priest of Oracle and Cheng Lixue. Xiong Chumo, along with Luo Kedi and Ye Hongyu, soon arrived. Heavenly Maid revealed her divine identity, causing Xiong Chumo and the others to kneel in reverence.
She reinstated Xiong Chumo as the Hierarch of West Shrine, restoring his cultivation, and commanded him to convene the Light Conference. Her purpose was to sever all mortal ties and hasten her return to Heaven, an order Xiong Chumo immediately prepared to carry out. That night, Ning Que dreamed of Sangsang once more. He desperately tried to reach her, but she vanished before his eyes, leaving him with a heavy heart upon waking.
He later sought out Slow Li to discuss how to deal with the Drinker and the Butcher. Slow Li informed him that Heavenly Maid was behind these events and had returned to West Shrine. Slow Li urged Ning Que to go to West Shrine himself to confirm if Heavenly Maid was indeed Sangsang.
Ning Que initially insisted on remaining in the capital to guard the God-Startling Formation, expressing his concern that while he was invincible within the city, he would be vulnerable outside it. Slow Li, however, encouraged him not to let the city confine him, to avoid future regrets, and reminded him that he couldn't waste his life guarding the city when, in fact, the city and its people were guarding him. Ning Que understood the sentiment and the need to act.
Returning to his carriage, Ning Que had another dream. Sangsang appeared before him, claiming she had killed Blacky. She provocatively dared him to come to West Shrine, warning that Heavenly Maid would kill him. When Ning Que questioned who Heavenly Maid was, she defiantly declared, "I am Heavenly Maid." He awoke to an empty carriage, realizing it was Sangsang's message delivered through a dream. The struggle between Sangsang and Heavenly Maid continued.
Sangsang wanted to take Heavenly Maid back to the House of Calligraphy to see Ning Que, but Heavenly Maid vehemently refused, insisting on returning to Heaven. She found Sangsang's "human smell" repulsive, believing it hindered her return to her divine state, and proclaimed that the Light Conference would purify everything. Sangsang countered that their shared memories of the House of Calligraphy, Wei City, and their perilous journey through Minshan Mountain could never be erased.
Heavenly Maid then taunted Sangsang, suggesting that if she missed Ning Que so much, he should come to West Shrine, where he would be "extinguished." Ning Que resolved to go to West Shrine and convened his senior siblings at the Academy to inform them of his decision. His announcement met with immediate dissent. His siblings feared for his life against the powerful Butcher and Drinker, urging him to remain in the capital, which depended on him as its last bastion.
Jun Mo, however, advised them to respect Ning Que's choice. Ning Que explained his conviction that Sangsang was alive and inextricably linked to Heavenly Maid. He felt called to find Heavenly Maid and prevent her return to Heaven, which would bring catastrophic ruin upon Tang State. He was determined not to disappoint the Sage. Yu Lian revealed that the Light Conference was Heavenly Maid's means to open the "gate of Heaven."
Slow Li supported Ning Que, acknowledging the inherent danger of the journey. Together, they decided to devise a meticulous plan to achieve Ning Que's objective while also maintaining the illusion that Ning Que remained in the capital, thwarting West Shrine's hopes of the Academy taking a reckless risk.
