Ning Que, battered and bleeding, struggled his way up the divine hall, resolute in bringing the Heavenly Maid back. He insisted she leave West Shrine and return to being his Sangsang, emphasizing that as long as they were not in West Shrine, "the whole world is the human world." He continued, "You are mine. I surely want to turn you back into my Sangsang," and reminded her, "Don't forget that after getting married, we haven't gone on our honeymoon."

Invisible to the Heavenly Maid, Sangsang begged her, "Please don't beat him anymore! You almost beat him to death!" Ning Que then challenged Heavenly Maid, saying she wouldn't dare to kill him, and their "fight. . . will last. . . No one knows how long it will last. Maybe it will last as long as the sky and earth. . . or even till we stay together till old and grey."

He even sarcastically advised her to heal his wounds, warning, "If I die, you can't even be a widow. You have to be buried with me." Infuriated, Heavenly Maid exclaimed, "You managed to make me angry," and used her power to destroy Ning Que's cultivation. Ye Hongyu learned from Ning Que that Xiong Chumo was the one who raped her years ago.

She immediately confronted Xiong Chumo, finally understanding why Yu Lian had spared him during their battle at the Academy's Back Hill; Yu Lian knew that if Ye Hongyu learned the truth, she would seek vengeance, which would cause her Tao-mind to split internally. Xiong Chumo, realizing his imminent death, claimed this entire situation was "the conspiracy of the Academy" to split West Shrine and urged Ye Hongyu to "keep your Tao-mind."

Ignoring him, Ye Hongyu quickly overpowered his guards, then challenged Xiong Chumo, "You don't deserve to mention Tao-mind. My mind of proving Tao is to seek justice. While some kind of justice should be sought at the risk of life." As Ye Hongyu prepared to strike Xiong Chumo, Chen Mou suddenly appeared and intervened, using the Scroll "Luo" of the Almighty Book as a weapon. He declared, "I don't allow this kind of thing to happen.

The one who does evil must die! No one is allowed to kill him except me." He accused her of being "addicted to Ning Que," claiming her actions were unfair. Defiant, Ye Hongyu retorted, "If Heaven doesn't do me justice, I will ask for it by myself!" She then revealed that she had embedded golden lines in her body since Liansheng's attack, warning, "Whoever dares to touch me must die!"

When Chen Mou deployed the Almighty Book, she criticized him for using it in combat, questioning how he could claim to cultivate Tao. Seeing no way to proceed, Ye Hongyu proclaimed, "My life is mine to decide!" and leaped off Peach Mountain. Ning Que, now barely alive and with his cultivation crippled, was imprisoned in the Hidden Boudoir.

Unseen, Sangsang was heartbroken, using the power of Light to heal his wounds and keeping his feet in her arms to warm him. Upon regaining consciousness, Ning Que was furious about his lost cultivation and shouted, "What Heavenly Maid you are! I will kill you! What did you do to me? Do you dare to kill me? If you don't kill me now, it will never be over between us! I will perish with you!"

Heavenly Maid responded by tormenting him further, causing him excruciating pain. Sangsang, distressed, pleaded with Heavenly Maid, "You have tortured him a lot! What on earth do you want?" and "Do you enjoy seeing him suffer a lot? . . . Give Sangsang back to me. I could be your slave." Heavenly Maid coldly stated, "Human are too stupid. You have no idea you are as tiny as ants. How dare you dream to reach the sky?

See, there's a more stupid ant going to find him." While Ning Que was imprisoned, He Mingchi visited him in the Hidden Boudoir, mockingly stating that it was raining outside but Ning Que couldn't see it. He demanded the formation key from Ning Que, boasting about his own importance to Heavenly Maid. Ning Que, despite his weakened state, remained defiant, telling He Mingchi, "Even if I am nothing, I have countless ways to kill you.

In short, if I leave Peach Hill. . . you are the first one I would kill." He further implied He Mingchi's fate, saying, "How long can you live without permission from Heavenly Maid?" He Mingchi subsequently reported Ning Que's location to Xiong Chumo, who warned him against overconfidence and unauthorized probing into Ning Que's whereabouts, especially since Heavenly Maid had kept it secret. Soon after, Heavenly Maid summoned He Mingchi.

While silently observing, Sangsang expressed her dislike for He Mingchi, calling him a deceiver. Heavenly Maid then publicly declared her dislike for He Mingchi, stating he was a deceiver and a betrayer. Heavenly Maid then publicly declared, "I will grant you cutting in the waist," and ordered his immediate execution. Sangsang, unseen, quietly approved, "With so many evil deeds, you deserve it!"

Heavenly Maid also commanded her attendants to immediately cease the pursuit of Chen Pipi and Tang Xiaotang throughout the world. Meanwhile, Chen Pipi and Tang Xiaotang, exhausted from their flight, found themselves surrounded by West Shrine's cavalry. Just as capture seemed inevitable, the cavalry suddenly turned and rode away. Tang Xiaotang wondered why they left. Chen Pipi deduced it was Ning Que's intervention, relieved that "the fat guy [Ning Que] hasn't died. You [Tang Xiaotang] can't die, either."

He urged Tang Xiaotang to keep going. Witnessing Heavenly Maid's apparent mercy towards Chen Pipi and Tang Xiaotang, Sangsang pleaded with her to also release Ning Que, reminding her, "All of them are very important to me." Heavenly Maid explained that she was honoring her promise to Chen Pipi to repay "worldly ties" and claimed, "From now on, I don't owe him anymore."

Annoyed by these human "attachments," which she blamed for preventing her return to heaven, Heavenly Maid decided against keeping Ning Que in the cold, humid Hidden Boudoir, stating she would bring him to the main hall to show Sangsang "how shameless he is." Ning Que, brought before Heavenly Maid, remained defiant, asking if she planned to kill or release him, and declaring he would not be worn down. Heavenly Maid stated that he needed to compensate her for their "attachments."

Ning Que challenged her, asking if this meant he should serve her, just as she (as Sangsang) once served him. Heavenly Maid confirmed it, and Ning Que agreed. He was given clean clothes and then began to wash Heavenly Maid's feet. As he did so, he saw the distinctive mulberry leaf birthmark on her foot. Overjoyed, he exclaimed, "I have held these feet since I was a kid. I will never mistake this mulberry leaf. You are Sangsang!"

He showered her with endearments, calling out "Sangsang!" repeatedly. Unseen, the true Sangsang stood nearby, wishing Ning Que could see her instead of mistaking Heavenly Maid for her. Heavenly Maid, irritated by Ning Que’s persistence, declared, "Sangsang is dead," and kicked the basin, scattering the water. Undeterred, Ning Que calmly picked up the basin, calling the water "foot washing water from my wife."

Ning Que then went to the kitchen and began preparing spicy and sour noodle soup, recalling his memories of making it with Sangsang. He meticulously added "Four prickly ashes. Not a single one is missing. I will never forget these," and later, "Thirty chopped scallions. Not a single one is missing."

He recounted their first taste of the dish in the capital, how they were amazed by it, and their journey together, full of escapes, him trying to protect her, and the realization that her illness was a divine seal meant to separate them. All the while, the unseen Sangsang was right beside him, silently watching and vowing, "Young master, I will stay with you forever."
