Ever Night Season 2 Episode 12 Recap
> Ever Night Season 2 Recaps
Luo Kedi ordered the West Shrine Cavalry to search every house in the city for Ning Que and Sang Sang. Following the path of crows, Qi Nian quickly located a haunted house where they were believed to be hiding. However, upon raiding the place, they found it long empty and abandoned. Meanwhile, Ning Que and Sang Sang were recognized by citizens in the streets of Chaoyang City, who immediately began to chase them, shouting "Wicked girl!" and other insults.
Despite their desperate flight, they also encountered the West Shrine Cavalry, forcing them to run even faster. Ning Que asked Sang Sang if she was sad, but quickly told her that those who feel sad because of others' attitudes are good people, and since they are "bad guys," they should not be sad. After briefly hiding, Ning Que declared they would escape Chaoyang City. They eventually found refuge in Qu Ni's Buddha House, a White Pagoda.
Ning Que used his great black umbrella to create a sound barrier, effectively silencing the enraged shouts of the pursuing citizens and Qi Nian outside. Inside, Qu Ni, the State Preceptor of Yuelun State and a Tian Qing Grand Master, immediately attacked Ning Que. He skillfully defended himself and took her hostage with his sword, assuring her that they only sought temporary sanctuary and had no intention of harming her.
Qu Ni, however, found their predicament amusing, stating it made her very happy to see the Daughter of Lord of the Deceased being chased so badly. Ning Que retorted that they had come to visit her to make her even happier. Qu Ni called Sang Sang a "bug" and Ning Que naive, confidently stating they would never escape Chaoyang City by kidnapping her. Ning Que dismissed her as noisy, like the crows outside.
Outside, Luo Kedi arrived, furious that Qi Nian and the others had not stormed the pagoda. Qi Nian hesitated, reminding him of Qu Ni's high status, which Luo Kedi dismissed, arguing that saving the world required sacrifice. Chen Cun, a Cardinal High Priest from the Hall of Light, intervened, emphasizing the virtue of cherishing life and questioned Luo Kedi's impatience, suggesting Ning Que and the girl were already in a "dead end."
Luo Kedi mocked the West Shrine for becoming "mild and merciful." Chen Cun, however, corrected Luo Kedi's assumption about Sang Sang, stating she was the Daughter of Lord of the Deceased and her demise was already certain. Inside, Ning Que brought water for Sang Sang, who was exhausted. Qu Ni mocked Ning Que for valuing the "little bug," Sang Sang, for a year, calling him a "love addict" and "stupid."
Ning Que retorted that Qu Ni, despite her age, didn't understand love, adding that his affection for Sang Sang was irrelevant to notions of good or evil, just as Sang Sang's affection for him persisted even when he was labeled the son of Lord of the Deceased. As Ning Que and Sang Sang rested, Qu Ni, having secretly freed herself, launched another attack using the Tian Qing Palm.
Ning Que defended with the same technique, enraging Qu Ni, who accused Qi Shan of betraying Tian Qing secrets. Unable to defeat Ning Que, Qu Ni vowed to make him an enemy of the world and make all of Chaoyang City kill him and Sang Sang before leaping out of a window to her death, effectively framing them. The citizens outside, hearing the commotion and Qu Ni's death, stormed the Buddha House.
Ning Que and Sang Sang were forced to flee again, with citizens pelting Sang Sang with stones and sticks. Ning Que, recalling his vow not to kill innocents, used his knife to fend off the attackers without bloodshed. Their path was soon blocked by Qi Nian and Luo Kedi. Luo Kedi urged Qi Nian to act, but Qi Nian admitted he was waiting for someone.
Impatient, Luo Kedi ordered the West Shrine Cavalry to kill the Daughter of Lord of the Deceased. Ning Que fought desperately, striking down the charging soldiers. Suddenly, Chief Master Jiang Jing, a hidden master from Xuankong Temple, appeared. Ning Que expressed surprise at his involvement in worldly affairs. Chief Master Jiang Jing stated he could not remain hidden with the Daughter of Lord of the Deceased in the world, urging Ning Que to leave.
Ning Que refused, questioning why innocent people, including himself and Sang Sang, should suffer from the approaching Ever Night and incessant persecution. Chief Master Jiang Jing accused Ning Que of having "deviated and remain[ing] impenitent," vowing to "send him back to his resting place." Ning Que defiantly challenged him. During their fierce battle, Sang Sang displayed a flash of light to assist Ning Que, but they were both ultimately overwhelmed. Chief Master Jiang Jing demanded the chessboard of Tian Qing.
Ning Que declared it was "deep inside his mind" and invited him to kill him to find it. As Chief Master Jiang Jing prepared to strike them down, Ning Que and Sang Sang clasped hands, vowing to remain together even in death. At that critical moment, Slow Li arrived, effortlessly shattering Chief Master Jiang Jing's barrier. Ning Que pleaded with him to save Sang Sang, or at least one of them.
Slow Li, however, confessed that his travels had weakened his internal energy, leaving him "kind of exceed[ing] my ability." Chief Master Jiang Jing scoffed, doubting Slow Li's ability to take the "Daughter of Lord of the Deceased," and accused the Academy of abandoning the world for its disciples. Slow Li then relayed Sage's message to Chief Master Jiang Jing: to stop the Ever Night, the girl must not be killed.
When questioned, Slow Li explained that Sage believed Lord of the Deceased might have anticipated Sang Sang's death, knowing that killing her would release the sealed mark within her, accelerating the Ever Night's invasion. Therefore, their true mission was to protect Sang Sang. The revelation stunned everyone, but Chief Master Jiang Jing dismissed Sage as being in "dotage" and misled by rumors. Slow Li reiterated Sage's command to bring Sang Sang back to the Academy.
Chief Master Jiang Jing declared it impossible, but Slow Li resolved to try. He then urged Ning Que to leave with Sang Sang, quoting Sage: "a person of noble character won't stand in danger. Go while the going is good," before expending his own internal energy to propel Ning Que and Sang Sang to the foot of the mountain, where Blacky, their horse, was waiting with a carriage.
Chief Master Jiang Jing conceded that Slow Li lived up to his reputation as Sage's first disciple but then confronted him, asserting that the message Slow Li conveyed from Sage was merely his "own suppositions," not Sage's true thoughts. He argued that if Sage truly believed killing Sang Sang would trigger the Ever Night, he would have acted much sooner to bring them back to the Academy, instead of allowing such chaos.
Chief Master Jiang Jing concluded that Sage was still "hesitating" and "doesn't know how to do," asking Slow Li to convey a message back: the "future of the world, to a great extent, depends on his hesitation now." Meanwhile, Ning Que and Sang Sang continued their desperate flight north, guided by crows.
Luo Kedi pursued them, but Chen Cun and other disciples from the Hall of Light bravely intervened, sacrificing themselves to block Luo Kedi's path, declaring, "Light will never die. The righteous path lasts forever." Before his ultimate sacrifice, Sang Sang thanked Chen Cun for his care and assured him not to worry, as Ning Que would protect her.
Chen Cun then imparted a final teaching: that the disciples of Light exist to love more people and spread light, not just to believe in one person. He also shared that "Light would never make mistakes" and that their self-sacrifice was their own choice to affirm their Light, even if it meant not entering the Heaven of Light. Witnessing these events and the sacrifice, Sang Sang's demeanor changed dramatically.
She remembered a saying: "the absolute Light is the absolute darkness," and declared she finally understood its meaning. Ning Que noticed her altered tone, a profound shift from her previous self. He felt a deep fear, not of their pursuers, but of Sang Sang herself. He worried that she might eventually adopt the same "resolute way" as the High Priests of the Hall of Light, declaring war on the world. Ning Que vowed that such a battle should be his to fight, not hers.
