Ever Night Season 2 Episode 8 Recap
> Ever Night Season 2 Recaps
Ye Hongyu, when asked if she would intervene again if she encountered Ning Que, responded with a firm "Of course." Lu Chenjia then arrived to meet Ye Hongyu, expressing her desire to witness Mo Shanshan's death for love. Lu Chenjia still harbored feelings for Long Qing, but Ye Hongyu advised her to forget him, calling him a "useless" individual who had fallen from the Son of Light to the darkest person.
Lu Chenjia retorted, mocking Ye Hongyu for not understanding love and asking if she had ever loved anyone. Ye Hongyu dismissed them all as "losers." Ning Que explained to Sang Sang that their arrival in Xuankong was due to Master Qi Shan. He recounted that the ancient figure Tian Qing, while cultivating, discovered a place linked to Xuankong. Tian Qing then established a formation connecting Xuankong and Rotten-wood Temple, allowing for barrier-free spatial communication.
Master Qi Shan, while opening the chessboard world, activated Tian Qing's formation, teleporting Ning Que and Sang Sang directly to Xuankong, thus saving them. Meanwhile, Li Manman continued his search for Ning Que and Sang Sang. He showed their portraits to a man named Yang Erxi, who was fishing in a lake. Yang Erxi confusedly claimed to have seen them "in the lake" surrounded by "lots of fish." Unable to get a coherent answer, Li Manman continued on his way.
He later expressed regret that he couldn't keep looking for his "little brother" that day, indicating he had decided to focus on another immediate task. Lu Chenjia visited Mo Shanshan in the Hidden Boudoir, where Mo Shanshan was awaiting execution by three Jurisdiction Swords. Lu Chenjia urged Mo Shanshan not to sacrifice her life for Ning Que, as his heart belonged only to Sang Sang.
Mo Shanshan, however, remained resolute, stating that her actions were for herself, driven by her own heart and what she believed was right, regardless of Ning Que's feelings or others' opinions. Lu Chenjia conceded that among the Three Addicts, Mo Shanshan was truly the most infatuated. The trial of Mo Shanshan commenced, with Xiong Chumo, the High Priest, presiding. Mo Shanshan was accused of harboring the world's enemy and hindering the cause of Light.
Xiong Chumo ordered Ye Hongyu, the High Priest of Jurisdiction, to carry out the sentence of three Jurisdiction Swords. Ye Hongyu announced the sentence and, acknowledging Mo Shanshan as the Book-Addict and owner of Mochi Garden, offered her a chance to repent before three drum beats. Mo Shanshan made no move. As the drums began, Li Manman attempted to rescue her but was intercepted by Universe Traveler Ye Qing, who warned him against advancing into the Peach Blossom Formation.
Li Manman declared it his responsibility to save his foster sister, and Ye Qing insisted he would have to defeat him first, light-heartedly admitting his desire to win against Li Manman for once, despite knowing Li Manman avoided fights. Ye Hongyu executed the first sword, which Mo Shanshan calmly received without dodging.
For the second sword, Ye Hongyu shockingly plunged the blade into herself, stating it was to repay Mo Shanshan for saving her life at the Relic of Demonic Cult. Enraged, Xiong Chumo denounced Ye Hongyu's personal interference, questioning her Tao-mind and deeming both her and Mo Shanshan unworthy of their "Addict" titles. Citing Ye Hongyu's compromised cultivation, Xiong Chumo declared he would personally deliver the third sword. As he prepared, he offered Ye Hongyu a final chance to reconsider.
Just as he struck, Lu Chenjia leaped forward, taking the third sword for Mo Shanshan. With all three "Addicts" now injured, Ye Hongyu declared that the three swords had been executed and, by law, Mo Shanshan should be freed. Xiong Chumo, however, angrily called her argument "nonsense." The High Priest of Oracle then interceded, arguing that surviving the three swords indicated divine providence and that the rare "infatuation" of the Three Addicts should be respected.
Mo Shanshan, in turn, offered to remain imprisoned in the Hidden Boudoir to prevent further suffering for others, prompting others to join the pleas. Eventually, Xiong Chumo agreed to confine Mo Shanshan to the Hidden Boudoir for eternity, but he sentenced Ye Hongyu and Lu Chenjia to seventy-two fires for their defiance. Sensing Mo Shanshan's survival, Li Manman and Ye Qing came to an understanding.
Li Manman thanked Ye Hongyu for her sacrifice, while Ye Qing credited Li Manman's foster sister, Mo Shanshan, with softening Ye Hongyu's heart. Putting aside their rivalry, they parted ways, with Li Manman resuming his search for Ning Que and Sang Sang. Meanwhile, Ning Que and Sang Sang found the Tian Qing Tree, a place where the ancient Tian Qing had found his eternal rest.
Sang Sang, burdened by her identity as the Daughter of Lord of the Deceased, worried about bringing disaster to the world and implicating Ning Que. Ning Que passionately dismissed her fears, rejecting the myths of the Lord of the Deceased. He emphasized that life is finite, and they should live each day vibrantly and beautifully. Sang Sang, in a moment of clarity, expressed her desire to have a child with Ning Que.
Ning Que, finding the process of having children too time-consuming given their perilous circumstances, suggested they do something more immediate and exciting. Li Manman subsequently used his advanced cultivation to enter the Hidden Boudoir, intending to free Mo Shanshan. However, Mo Shanshan refused to leave, fearing the repercussions her escape would bring upon Dahe State, Mochi Garden, and those who had championed her. She asserted that all she needed was a place to practice her calligraphy.
Mo Shanshan then inquired about Ning Que, and Li Manman, though he had found no trace, reassured her of their survival and vowed to continue his search. She urged him not to be delayed by her situation. Accepting her decision, Li Manman left. Later, Ye Qing visited his sister, Ye Hongyu, bringing her medicine for her Jurisdiction Sword wound. He criticized her impulsive actions at the trial.
While acknowledging her steadfast Tao-mind, Ye Hongyu admitted she had deviated from the "right Tao," prompting Ye Qing to ponder whether West Shrine itself might be diverging from the true path. He warned her about the dangers she faced as a High Priest with only a beginner's cultivation in the "Knowing Fate" stage, and urged her to return to Zhishou Temple for further training and safety from Peach Mountain.
He reminded her of the importance of her position in the Jurisdiction Division and reiterated that he had always watched over her, and would have killed her himself if her actions were not aligned with the "right Tao," emphasizing that returning to Zhishou Temple was for her own good. The High Priest of Oracle attended to Lu Chenjia's wounds and commended her for intervening to save Mo Shanshan. Lu Chenjia admitted that she initially harbored deep hatred for Ning Que.
However, witnessing Ning Que's willingness to oppose the entire world for Sang Sang, and Mo Shanshan's equivalent devotion for Ning Que, helped her to release her animosity. She reflected on the rarity of such true emotions amidst a world fraught with deception, concluding that Ning Que had done nothing wrong. She also realized that her own perceived detachment from her past love for Long Qing was merely self-deception.
On the vast grasslands of the Golden Horde, Long Qing, accompanied by Zi Mo and West Shrine's fallen Calvary, arrived with the intent to conquer the local herdsmen and establish his power. He initially disregarded a young girl being pursued by local herdsmen, deeming their struggles as part of the harsh reality of the barbarian lands. However, her desperate cries for help caught his attention.
When Long Qing questioned the herdsmen about the location of the Golden Horde, they responded with hostility and insults toward him and the Tang people. Enraged, Long Qing brutally slaughtered them all. The rescued girl introduced herself as Wu Zhu, the daughter of the former Da Chanyu, and offered to guide Long Qing to the Golden Horde. Back in Tang, Chao Xiaoshu, the leader of the Yulong gang, visited the House of Calligraphy only to find it sealed.
He was overcome with nostalgia, recalling his pivotal encounter with Ning Que on a rainy spring night when they fought side-by-side. Brother Chang, noting rumors about the Daughter of Lord of the Deceased, advised Chao Xiaoshu to distance himself from Ning Que to protect the gang. Chao Xiaoshu, however, remained resolute. He declared that the House of Calligraphy, his private property, would remain reserved for Ning Que until his return.
He firmly stated that he wouldn't abandon Ning Que, his sworn brother, regardless of rumors or the potential opposition from the Academy or the Court, and that the Yulong gang would always stand by him as long as Ning Que did not violate Tang law or commit evil deeds.
