Dear Mayang Street Episode 24 Recap
> Dear Mayang Street Recap
Hao Pushi relentlessly chastised Yi Shengli, complaining that his truck had once again been in an accident, overturning this time. This was not the first time, as she lamented, "Don't do it if you can't, car accidents happen frequently." She added that instead of making big money, they were "losing money day by day." Yi Shengli defended himself, asserting that his driver's license was legitimately earned and that his partner, Brother Zhong, was actually responsible for the incident.
Hao Pushi's underlying worry, however, was their son, Yi Dongdong's, university tuition and living expenses for his upcoming studies in Beijing. " Your son is going to college, what do you want him to read without books? This is from your Yi family, the first college student," she exclaimed, adding, "Don't you prepare more for his traveling expenses and living expenses?"
Their argument escalated, with Hao Pushi accusing him of being "worthless" and Yi Shengli retorting that he risked his life driving long distances to make money. Yi Dongdong, returning home, was caught in the middle of their heated exchange. Meanwhile, Ma Yingjun suddenly collapsed at home, causing Ma Xiaoxiao to panic and almost cry. Neighbors from Mayang Street rushed to help. A doctor, summoned quickly, diagnosed Ma Yingjun with acute myocardial infarction, requiring immediate surgery.
The doctor instructed that a consent form needed to be signed and the operation fee prepared. Ma Xiaoxiao hesitated. Liang Yuanchao quickly stepped forward, assuring her, "I have the money," and urging her to sign. After a moment, Ma Xiaoxiao signed the form. With Aunt Niu still out at the TV station, Yi Dongdong volunteered to cycle back to Mayang Street to inform her. On his way, he spotted Ou Xiaojian and urgently told him about Ma Yingjun's critical condition.
Ou Xiaojian immediately rushed to the hospital on his motorcycle, finding everyone gathered there. Ma Xiaoxiao showed Ou Xiaojian the Beijing train tickets Ma Yingjun had bought, terrified at the thought of losing her father. She tearfully recounted her father's promises of taking her to Tiananmen Square and showing her around his hometown when he took her to Beijing. She said, "He asked me to go out. . .
I can realize my dream, But I don't want him to have something. . . I hope he will be fine." Ou Xiaojian embraced her, offering comfort and assuring her, "Uncle Ma is a good person, he will surely be fine." Just then, Aunt Niu arrived at the hospital, distressed by the news. Ou Xiaojian's beeper began to ring, but he chose to ignore it, staying by Ma Xiaoxiao's side to await the surgery results.
Seeing his persistent beeper, Liang Yuanchao suggested, "You can call back. . . It's so noisy," encouraging Ou Xiaojian to respond. Ou Xiaojian reassured Ma Xiaoxiao he would be "back soon" before making the call. It was Ma Pi on the phone, urgently informing Ou Xiaojian that AFEI had been looking for him. Ma Pi explained, "Brother Fei has been looking for you. . .
Let you go to the dock right away," adding that AFEI threatened to send people to Little Hong Kong to find him if he didn't show up. Realizing he had no choice, Ou Xiaojian agreed to go. Back at the hospital, Aunt Niu, distraught, prayed for Ma Yingjun's recovery, saying if he woke up, she would accompany him to Beijing for as long as he wished. Unbeknownst to them, Liang Yuanchao discreetly paid the surgery fees.
Yi Shengli and Hao Pushi also brought food for the waiting group. Upon arriving at the dock, AFEI berated Ou Xiaojian for being late and questioned his loyalty, suspecting internal problems were causing his recent setbacks. AFEI pointed out that Ou Xiaojian was the newest member and asked him to "analyze. . . why have things been so difficult since you joined?" Ou Xiaojian firmly refuted the accusation, stating, "You know everything I 've done. . .
I have done nothing." Unconvinced, AFEI presented a man, declaring him a "traitor" who had joined Brother Hua, and ordered Ou Xiaojian to "Get him done." As Ou Xiaojian prepared to comply, Brother Hua suddenly appeared with a large group, encircling AFEI and his men. Brother Hua declared his intention to seize AFEI's goods and take their lives. A violent brawl erupted. During this operation, Ma Pi was pushed into the river and drowned.
The police quickly arrived, apprehending both Brother Hua and AFEI. Ma Yingjun's surgery was successful, but it required a significant amount of B-type blood. Hao Pushi promptly rallied the Mayang Street neighbors to donate. Among them, Lin Jiahao, who had a fear of blood, fainted immediately after donating. Thanks to everyone's timely assistance, Ma Yingjun successfully pulled through the surgery. Ou Xiaojian, injured in the dock fight, was also admitted to the same hospital.
Learning of Ma Pi's death, Ou Xiaojian was deeply remorseful, lamenting that Ma Pi, who trusted him as a brother and even risked his life for him, had died because of his actions. " He never doubted me until he died," Ou Xiaojian cried. Li Zhaohang visited Ou Xiaojian in the hospital, informing him that to maintain his undercover identity and draw out the mastermind behind AFEI and Brother Hua, he would also need to spend some time in prison.
Li Zhaohang assured him that the police were ready to deal with the person behind AFEI and Brother Hua once they tried to "clean up the mess." Despite his injuries, Ou Xiaojian attempted to leave to see Ma Xiaoxiao, having promised to return after his call. Li Zhaohang intervened, urging him to lie down and assuring him he would monitor the situation and inform Ma Xiaoxiao.
Ou Xiaojian, however, declined Li Zhaohang's offer to speak to Ma Xiaoxiao on his behalf, asking him not to mention him to her, but instead to "Help me take care of grandma." The incident with Ma Yingjun prompted Liang Yuanchao to a profound realization: money could not compare to time spent with family. He canceled a business trip, saying, "I've come to a realization. . . I should be at home, spending more time with you."
He prepared a large feast to thank the Mayang Street neighbors for their help. However, only Yi Shengli's family attended, as others were busy. During the dinner, Yi Shengli excused himself. Yi Dongdong followed him and overheard his father speaking with Brother Zhong. He discovered that the truck accident was not merely an overturn but an act of extortion by "road bullies."
Yi Shengli asked Brother Zhong not to tell their families, saying, "We'll just spend money for peace of mind. . . Don't tell your family lest they worry about us." Yi Shengli told Brother Zhong they would temporarily stop operations and explore markets in Hunan and Guangzhou. Yi Dongdong, listening, quietly promised himself not to tell anyone. Back at the hospital, Ma Yingjun had regained consciousness.
Aunt Niu held his hand, happy he was awake, and reminded him to eat less greasy food and exercise more, reiterating her promise to take him to Beijing once he recovered. A doctor, however, advised that Ma Yingjun's health would not allow him to travel for at least three to four years. Ma Xiaoxiao supported her mother by emphasizing, "Is money important or my father important?" Ou Xiaojian, now in police custody, spoke with Li Zhaohang.
Li Zhaohang informed him that Brother An, the person behind AFEI and Brother Hua, had no intention of bailing them out. He suspected that Brother An might have uncovered Ou Xiaojian's true identity, rendering the operation's current phase "over." Ou Xiaojian was crushed, feeling that his years as an undercover agent—five long years—had led to this, making him seem like "a fallen orphan" to Mayang Street residents, constantly worrying his grandmother, and leading to Ma Pi's death.
He confessed, "I lied to Ma Pi who gave his life. . . The last thing I want to cheat is Ma Xiaoxiao." He felt like "neither a human nor a ghost." He rejected Li Zhaohang's offer for a new identity and a move to Beijing, declaring, "I'm in jail. . . I will be here, leading to the behind-the-scenes leaders. . . I will not give up."
Li Zhaohang warned him, "I'm afraid this matter is not as simple as you think," and urged him to reconsider, mentioning other organizational alternatives for his safety. News reports confirmed the arrest of Song Moufei (AFEI), Cai Mouhua (Brother Hua), and 17 others in a weapon-related conflict, with police promising further investigation. Ou Xiaojian's grandmother, unaware of his true identity, was devastated by the news of his arrest.
Yi Dongdong rushed to comfort her, assuring her that he would look after the shop and her, and that nothing was "destroyed." Later, Ma Xiaoxiao attempted to visit Ou Xiaojian in detention but was denied entry by a guard who stated that Ou Xiaojian had not listed her as a relative and she lacked the required documentation for a visit. She had no prior appointment, letter of introduction, or household register. The guard asked her to wait in the corridor while he tried to contact someone.
