Being a Hero Episode 19 Recap
> Being a Hero Recap
Following the confirmation of his father Wu Gang's innocence, Wu Zhenfeng tearfully accepted the Yunhe County Public Security Bureau's deep apologies for the injustice suffered three years prior. He pledged to cooperate fully with police operations, share everything he knew, and act as an ordinary person with a conscience who deeply detests drugs, aiming to help apprehend all suspects.
Soon after his release, Wu Zhenfeng was informed that Gui Shou was buried in Nanshan Cemetery and was advised to visit him. He then connected with Erliang, who was surprised at his swift release. Wu Zhenfeng explained it was only deemed a fight, resulting in 15 days of detention, and his "police brother" had spoken up for him. He also indicated that K had set them up, and it shouldn't be left unaddressed.
Erliang advised Wu Zhenfeng to rest in Yunhe, promising to contact him when needed. Meanwhile, the police initiated a comprehensive search for Wan Mengmeng, contacting various police stations, compiling hotel registration records, and distributing her photos and information. Liu Kaihua suggested sending officers to Wan Heda's house.
Although concerned about alarming Wan Heda, Lin Dezan dispatched Yang Yi and Lan Anran with strict instructions: they were only to inquire about Wan Mengmeng and nothing else, and they were not to force entry without a search warrant. Chen Yu, however, expressed his apprehension to Lin Dezan about Wu Zhenfeng's early release. He mentioned photos of Wu Zhenfeng with armed militants abroad, which, while not evidence, warranted suspicion.
Chen Yu feared Wu Zhenfeng might flee the country, severing their valuable leads. Lin Dezan dismissed Chen Yu's concerns about Wu Zhenfeng's whereabouts. Chen Yu then attempted to enlist Bowen's help in tracking Wu Zhenfeng, but Bowen, citing disciplinary rules, refused. Separately, Wang Yikun confessed to Hao Dong that Hao Dong had saved his life after he committed murder abroad, earning his unwavering loyalty.
He recounted their return to Yunhe three years prior to avenge Hao Dong’s father, taking on all the dirty work without complaint. He emphasized that half his life belonged to Hao Dong, and the other half to Wan Mengmeng. Their conversation was interrupted by Wan Heda, who stormed in, furiously demanding to know Wan Mengmeng's whereabouts and striking Wang Yikun. Hao Dong intervened, asserting he would take Wan Mengmeng with him.
Wan Heda vehemently opposed his daughter fleeing with a drug dealer, but Hao Dong argued that Mengmeng had chosen to go with Wang Yikun for a "new life," suggesting they were all "family." Wan Heda rejected this notion, reminding Hao Dong that "this path" was his, just as it had been when Hao Dong's father was alive, implying no one could operate without his consent. Hao Dong advised Wan Heda not to rush, especially concerning Mengmeng.
Wan Heda left, expecting a solution from Hao Dong. A subsequent conversation among individuals involved in the drug trade revealed concerns about stalled operations and the need to re-engage with Wan Heda, particularly since Hao Dong had seemingly betrayed them. Determined to find Wu Zhenfeng, Chen Yu went to a police station and asked Xiaoguang to check surveillance footage.
Xiaoguang, busy with other cases and aware that Chen Yu’s team had already inquired about Wan Mengmeng, refused, accusing Chen Yu of risking another mistake. Fortunately, Station Chief Wang overheard and called Xiaoguang away on a pretext. Chen Yu seized the opportunity to quickly check the open computer, successfully locating Wu Zhenfeng. Chen Yu tracked Wu Zhenfeng from the cemetery, where Wu Zhenfeng had visited Gui Shou's grave.
There, Wu Zhenfeng had a conversation with his loyal subordinate, Ahui, who expressed his unwavering devotion since meeting "Gui Ge," even offering to die for Wu Zhenfeng. Wu Zhenfeng countered, advising him that his life belonged only to himself and urged him to find a legitimate job to care for his family.
Ahui, citing his lack of education, prison record, and rehab history, insisted he could only follow Wu Zhenfeng to "achieve great things," reminding him of his past ambition to become a "drug king" from Mengka. Wu Zhenfeng then received a call from Erliang, instructing him to go to Wan Heda's house. Chen Yu followed him there. At Wan Heda's residence, Wu Zhenfeng confronted him about not answering Erliang's calls, emphasizing that Erliang had sent him out of respect.
Wan Heda defiantly asserted his business was separate from Mengka and K, ordering Wu Zhenfeng to leave. Shortly after, Yang Yi and Lan Anran arrived, prompting Wan Heda to hastily conceal Wu Zhenfeng. The officers introduced themselves as from the Yunhe Anti-Narcotics Division, explaining they were investigating Wan Mengmeng in connection with a drug-related death at Yun Dian Disco and suspected drug transactions.
Wan Heda denied Mengmeng’s involvement, claiming she had left for a friend's gathering on the 17th and hadn't returned. He allowed them to search, showing them Mengmeng's room on the second floor, insisting she was not involved in anything illegal. After the police left, Chen Yu, who had been observing the house, contacted Yang Yi, who was nearby. Wu Zhenfeng re-emerged, pressuring Wan Heda to call Erliang again.
Wan Heda reluctantly called Erliang, angrily demanding that Wu Zhenfeng leave his house. Wu Zhenfeng then snatched the phone, informing Erliang that Wan Heda had tried to set them up, and now Wan Mengmeng was missing with the police actively searching for her. Erliang, concerned for Mengmeng, ordered Wu Zhenfeng, "No matter what, bring Wan Mengmeng back safely." This directive softened Wan Heda, who agreed to discuss further once his daughter was safe. Police investigations quickly progressed.
Technical department colleagues, reviewing extensive surveillance footage, identified Wan Mengmeng and Wang Yikun near Donghu on the night of the Yun Dian Disco incident. Subsequent footage was unavailable due to heavy rain and lack of cameras. Wang Yikun was identified as "Akun," Wan Mengmeng's boyfriend, who owned a boatyard in Yunhe. Lin Dezan immediately ordered a search of all hotels and rental properties around Donghu.
Soon, Liu Kaihua received urgent news: Wan Mengmeng had been spotted buying medicine at Kangxi Pharmacy in the Donghu district. Bowen swiftly identified Xingrong Hotel as the closest, confirming Wang Yikun had also been seen heading in that direction. Liu Kaihua dispatched his team, including Qiangzi and Lan Anran, to the location. Simultaneously, Wu Zhenfeng sent his subordinate, Ahui, to track Wang Yikun. At Xingrong Hotel, Wan Mengmeng was distraught, pleading with Wang Yikun to take her away.
She refused to take more drugs ("Xiaoma"), revealing she was pregnant and wanted to keep the baby. Wang Yikun tried to persuade her that her current condition made it impossible, but she insisted she could quit drugs. Wu Zhenfeng, having been tracked to the hotel by Ahui, then located the room by posing as a delivery person, requesting to bring medicine for "sister-in-law." He confronted Wang Yikun.
Wang Yikun attempted to deflect, stating their issues were personal and unrelated to Mengmeng. Wu Zhenfeng countered that if he could find them, the police would too, and urged Wang Yikun to send Mengmeng to Wan Heda, stating it was the safest place for both of them. He threatened to expose them to the police if Wang Yikun refused. Wang Yikun reluctantly agreed, and Wu Zhenfeng took Wan Mengmeng.
Outside, Chen Yu, who had been staking out the hotel, spotted Wu Zhenfeng leaving with Wan Mengmeng and immediately attempted to intercept them, but Wu Zhenfeng and Ahui escaped in their car. Lan Anran and Yang Yi arrived shortly after. Chen Yu angrily confronted them, blaming them for not maintaining surveillance on Wu Zhenfeng and allowing him to escape with Wan Mengmeng. Liu Kaihua called Lan Anran for an update, who reported that Wu Zhenfeng had "rescued" Wan Mengmeng.
Liu Kaihua then questioned Chen Yu's unauthorized presence and actions. Wan Mengmeng was brought home to her father, where she tearfully apologized, admitted her involvement with drugs, and confessed her pregnancy, still hoping to leave with Wang Yikun. Wan Heda immediately called Dr. Yu, instructing him to be cautious with medication due to her pregnancy.
Meanwhile, Chen Yu stormed into Lin Dezan's office, furiously recounting Wu Zhenfeng's actions and criticizing Lin Dezan for not heeding his earlier warnings, claiming that a timely intervention would have led to an arrest. Lin Dezan acknowledged Chen Yu's points but told him to go back. Chen Yu, his other duties on hold, requested to be allowed 24-hour surveillance on Wu Zhenfeng, confirming he knew Wu Zhenfeng's current residence.
Lin Dezan then sternly declared, "You are not allowed to touch this line involving Wu Zhenfeng." He immediately softened his tone, ordering Chen Yu to write a "deep and thorough self-criticism" and submit it to Liu Kaihua. Elsewhere, Hao Dong's subordinate informed him that Wu Zhenfeng had "rescued" Wan Mengmeng.
Hao Dong questioned if Wan Heda would now cooperate with Mengka, expressing disbelief that Wan Heda would risk his daughter's life to betray him, and stated his intention to confront Wan Heda. Erliang contacted Wu Zhenfeng, asking if he still wanted to eliminate Hao Dong. Erliang then revealed that Hao Dong's group planned to ship goods from Savage Mountain to Shengjiang in a week, using "big yellow capsules." Erliang informed Wu Zhenfeng that his current mission was complete and he could return.
