Chen Yu was jolted awake from a nightmare, struggling to catch his breath. In his dream, two people were chasing each other in a weedy forest during a thunderstorm, and one of them fell into a cold lake. He drank from a bottle of ice water, calming himself before habitually checking the time: 5:30 AM, when his phone suddenly rang, and he answered with a worried expression.

Chen Yu and Officer Liu Guang from Dexi Police Station in Yunhe County arrived at the Taste Restaurant crime scene. The owner, Yang Shengguang, explained to the police that he was not involved in the incident, rarely visited the restaurant, only coming for collections. Chen Yu asked Yang Shengguang to cut vegetables to observe his knife skills.

Director Wang Kai, Chen Yu's superior, arrived and reprimanded him for not doing proper work and not questioning the case in the right manner. Liu Kaihua, the captain of the anti-narcotics brigade, also arrived. Chen Yu hastily showed him some items collected from the scene, including what appeared to be Magu. As some items were unfamiliar, Liu Kaihua instructed Officer Leng Feng to take the unknown yellow substance for analysis.

Chen Yu presented his initial findings, believing the stabbing was a spur-of-the-moment act, not premeditated murder, as only one deboning knife from the set of tools had bloodstains. He also noted variations in shoe print depth, suggesting the assailant was left-handed. He had tested this theory on Yang Shengguang, whose right-handedness and shoe prints did not match the crime scene, effectively clearing him.

Officers then discovered a fragment of a green jade pendant, which Chen Yu examined thoughtfully, realizing it was likely part of a pair. Chen Yu was eager to share more insights but was sent out by Director Wang to investigate dashcam footage outside. Liu Kaihua suggested transferring Chen Yu back to the anti-narcotics brigade, arguing that three years of punishment was enough and they couldn't continue to waste such talent. However, Director Wang insisted Liu Kaihua follow proper transfer procedures.

Chen Yu went to the Public Security Bureau to meet Director Lin Dezan. Outside, he saw his former captain, Gong Wei, guarding the gate, which brought a mix of emotions. Lin Dezan questioned Chen Yu about his transfer to the police station, noting that his qualifications as a top student in anti-narcotics should have led to a better posting. Chen Yu seemed hesitant to discuss his past mission, but Lin Dezan strongly pressed him to recount the events.

Three years ago, Chen Yu was speaking with Wu Zhenfeng in his office when he received an urgent call about an arrest mission. Due to his carelessness, Wu Zhenfeng overheard that the target, Du Dajun, was connected to the murder of Wu Zhenfeng's father, Wu Gang. Chen Yu locked Wu Zhenfeng in the office, ordering him to stay put, and then left.

At the arrest site, the police had set up a thorough containment, waiting for both parties of the drug deal to arrive before moving in. Unexpectedly, Wu Zhenfeng appeared at the scene, disrupting the entire operation. His interference led to chaos and caused Gong Wei to be severely injured, resulting in a lifelong disability that forced him to retire from frontline duties.

Lin Dezan, who had commanded that ill-fated mission, understood the circumstances but still pushed Chen Yu to recount it, hoping to help him overcome his psychological burden and rejoin the anti-narcotics brigade. Chen Yu, having faced his past, reaffirmed his commitment to duty. Deputy Chief Chen Liwen from the Provincial Public Security Department personally arrived at Yunhe County Public Security Bureau to guide the investigation into Hu Qingshan's murder at Taste Restaurant.

Liu Kaihua provided a summary of the case, suggesting it was linked to a drug transaction and a new type of synthetic drug. Chen Yu, however, discovered a distinct tattoo on the victim's body that matched one found on "Drug Three," a suspect from the Wu Gang case three years prior. He boldly theorized that Hu Qingshan and "Drug Three" belonged to the same drug trafficking organization or shared a significant connection.

Chen Yu proposed linking this case with the unsolved Wu Gang case, citing that Wu Zhenfeng's unexpected appearance during the arrest of "Drug Three" had ruined the operation and severed all leads. Chen Liwen approved the joint investigation and set a strict deadline of one week for progress, staying in Yunhe for the week. Following this, new officers, Zhou Bowen and Lin Qiang, were introduced to the anti-narcotics brigade by Lin Dezan and welcomed by Deputy Captain Liang Hao.

Chen Yu officially reported back to Liu Kaihua under Lin Dezan's observation. Meanwhile, drug dealer Lao Zhang covertly visited drug dealer Ba Peng at Yunhui Pharmacy to borrow money. Ba Peng, annoyed by Lao Zhang's outstanding debts, was told by Lao Zhang that Hu Qingshan was dead and that "Dahuang capsules" would inevitably increase in price, allowing Lao Zhang to pay off his debts. Suddenly, Wu Zhenfeng entered and immediately shut the pharmacy door without a word, demanding "Dahuang capsules."

Ba Peng tried to deny selling drugs, but Wu Zhenfeng revealed he had bought drugs from Huang Daxian previously, and Ba Peng had delivered them. Recalling Wu Zhenfeng, Ba Peng pulled a knife and attacked him. A struggle ensued, but Ba Peng and Lao Zhang together were no match for Wu Zhenfeng, who forced them to reveal the drugs' location.

Wu Zhenfeng took the drugs, telling Ba Peng to call him "Feng Ge" from now on when they meet, and then left. Liu Kaihua received an anonymous tip transferred from 110 regarding drugs hidden in Yunhui Pharmacy. He quickly assembled officers and rushed to the location. As Chen Yu briefly crossed paths with Lin Dezan, he suddenly recalled seeing a Yunhui Pharmacy shopping bag on Lin Dezan's desk. Meanwhile, Ba Peng also received a notification that the police were approaching.

He hastily divided the remaining "Dahuang capsules" with Lao Zhang and let him leave. Wu Zhenfeng, meanwhile, was covertly observing everything from a distance. When the police arrived and began their search, Ba Peng vehemently asserted his pharmacy was a legitimate business. However, Chen Yu discovered a "Dahuang capsule" in a drawer, leading to Ba Peng's immediate arrest.

Simultaneously, Lao Zhang called Huang Wenlin, whose nickname was "Huang Daxian," informing him about the raid on Ba Peng's pharmacy and opportunistically requesting to take over Ba Peng's position. Huang Wenlin not only refused but also demanded that Lao Zhang settle his outstanding payments within three days, accusing him of breaking the rules. Lin Dezan was eavesdropping on Ba Peng's interrogation from outside when Chen Yu unexpectedly appeared behind him and asked if he knew the person being questioned.

Lin Dezan was briefly surprised but quickly regained his composure. Ultimately, Ba Peng did not provide any significant information, claiming the capsules were merely ordinary fake medicine he had bought from another county. He was subsequently released.
