Run Yu received an edict from the Heavenly Empress through her envoy, stating he was to observe mourning in Xuanji Palace and was exempt from his regular duties. The envoy also presented him with two sets of mourning attire, one according to the customs of the Heaven Realm – funeral linen clothing – and another from the Arowana Family – funeral raw jute clothing. He was instructed to choose one, with the other to be returned.
The envoy subtly implied the Heavenly Empress's care by highlighting the comfort of the Heaven Realm's linen cloth compared to the rough raw jute. Recalling the Heavenly Emperor's earlier words about the need to balance the power of the Heavenly Empress and the Bird Family, Run Yu reluctantly selected the Heaven Realm's mourning clothes. After the envoy departed, he violently discarded the clothing, overcome with resentment.
He blamed himself for being unable to honor his birth mother with the proper Arowana Family raw jute attire, feeling utterly useless. Yan You attempted to console him, reminding him that his mother would be proud he observed mourning despite immense pressure. However, Run Yu felt it was "far from enough" and his resolve now was to "be patient." He dismissed Yan You's suggestion of abandoning everything to live a carefree life, acknowledging it as an "extravagant hope."
Yan You then presented a box entrusted to him by Su Li, to be given to Run Yu if circumstances changed. Upon opening it, Run Yu discovered it contained a detailed Force Deployment Map of the Bird Family on Yimiao Continent, finally grasping his mother's underlying ambition for him. The Heavenly Empress, informed of Run Yu's choice, expressed satisfaction but told Sui He not to underestimate him.
She acknowledged Run Yu's intelligence and apparent compliance, yet remembered his past capacity for ruthlessness, such as when he cruelly scaled himself as a child or dared to consume the Fumeng Elixir she provided. The Empress stated her belief that Run Yu would not let Su Li's death go unpunished and that his choice of mourning attire was merely a "warning" to him. She then instructed Sui He to deliver a birthday gift to Moon Immortal on her behalf.
Moon Immortal's birthday celebration was bustling with guests and gifts. Xu Feng, still under house arrest, sent Lord Liaoyuan to deliver a box of the latest "story-telling scripts" from the Human Realm. Xu Feng jokingly critiqued the gift as a sign of Lord Liaoyuan's "irrelevant business" in the mortal world. Moon Immortal, engrossed in the racy literature, even suffered a nosebleed. Kuang Lu arrived to present a Luminous Pearl from Run Yu, who was observing mourning.
Moon Immortal, impressed by her thoughtfulness and noting Run Yu's absence, invited Kuang Lu to join the festivities. Water Immortal, Wind Immortal, and Jin Mi arrived. Jin Mi gifted a magnifying glass, which Moon Immortal immediately used to scrutinize Jin Mi's face, marveling at her beauty. Sui He and Immortal Yuan Ji also joined.
Moon Immortal playfully scolded Immortal Yuan Ji for coming empty-handed, but was quickly placated when she promised to let him determine the future destiny and marriage of the White Snake, leading to a joyful embrace. The Heavenly Emperor made an unexpected appearance, noting the absence of his sons, Run Yu and Xu Feng. He then called upon Immortal Tai Si to entertain the guests.
Immortal Tai Si recited a mortal poem, subtly flattering the Heavenly Emperor and his sons, to general applause. Seizing the opportunity, Immortal Tai Si introduced his daughter, Kuang Lu, to the Heavenly Emperor, openly requesting his assistance in finding her a good match in the Heaven Realm, emphasizing her "honest and docile" nature. Water Immortal whispered to Jin Mi that this was clearly an attempt to betroth Kuang Lu to Xu Feng, given Jin Mi's engagement to Run Yu.
Moon Immortal jokingly intervened, suggesting Immortal Tai Si should consult him for matters of marriage, but the Heavenly Emperor defended Immortal Tai Si, acknowledging the earnestness of a parent's love. Witnessing multiple displays of warm father-daughter bonds at the banquet, Sui He became visibly distraught, recalling her painful past in the mortal world where she killed her own father, the only person who truly cherished her.
Overwhelmed by these memories and the realization that despite her actions, she still could not win Xu Feng's heart, she made her excuses to the Heavenly Emperor and departed early, consumed by hatred for both Xu Feng and Jin Mi. Returning to the Heavenly Empress, Sui He despairingly questioned if she could ever surpass Jin Mi and if Xu Feng would ever love her.
The Heavenly Empress sternly rebuked her for her despondent state, reminding her of their noble Bird Family lineage and the strength required of its leader. She encouraged Sui He, asserting that how much one endures is how much one will win back, and the final victor is yet to be determined, urging her not to give up.
In Xuanji Palace, Run Yu reflected on Chief Peony's earlier description of Jin Mi as a "cold and heartless" individual from childhood who could not truly love. He noted Jin Mi's stark transformation since her return from the mortal world, observing that she was now "heartless but single-minded." This drastic change led him to suspect that Jin Mi, much like himself with the Fumeng Elixir, might be under some form of external control.
His suspicions were confirmed when he discovered a description of the Yun Elixir while poring over ancient texts. Run Yu sought out Chief Peony to discuss his discovery of the Yun Elixir. He stated that Jin Mi's perception of love was "unusual," aligning with Chief Peony's previous observation that Jin Mi was a uniquely "cold and heartless" individual.
Run Yu shared his desire to remove the Yun Elixir from Jin Mi, asserting that no one should be deprived of the right to love. Chief Peony, however, expressed concern, asking how Run Yu could guarantee Jin Mi's safety, given the former Floral Immortal's prophecy of a "love calamity" for Jin Mi within ten thousand years. She also inquired if he had told Jin Mi the truth about the elixir.
Run Yu confirmed he had not revealed the secret to Jin Mi and solemnly promised to protect her at all costs, regardless of the consequences. By Liuzi Pond, Jin Mi addressed Xu Feng, taking responsibility for their spiritual cultivation, declaring him "her person" and promising to be responsible for him.
Xu Feng, amused by her "bandit-like" talk, jokingly accepted her as "the Fire Immortal’s wife," after she revealed her previous life's husband was a bandit named Crow, and she was his "wife." Jin Mi mentioned she had informed Water Immortal of their situation, who, though not forbidding it, expressed "worries" and asked her to "think over" the matter. Xu Feng assured her he understood Water Immortal's concerns and would resolve them swiftly.
Jin Mi then presented Xu Feng with a "Spring Flowers and Autumn Fruits" artifact, which, when placed near the heart and activated with spiritual power, could manifest the beautiful scenery of spring and autumn for a day. She humorously claimed to have "stolen" it from the Floral Realm.
Initially, Xu Feng found it "useless" as it could not be eaten or used in combat, but upon Jin Mi's explanation that he, as Fire Immortal, embodied "summer heat," and she, a frost flower, "winter snow," completing the four seasons, he cherished the gift. He promised to keep it safely within one of his souls before Jin Mi bade him farewell.
The Beast of Dreams, having ingested Jin Mi and Xu Feng's intimate dreams, fled in terror from Run Yu's enraged reaction. It then led Jin Mi to Xuanji Palace, where Run Yu recounted his childhood in Taihu Lake, marked by feelings of inferiority due to his "strange shape and pale color."
He shared his years of futile practice to transform into a carp, only to discover in the Heaven Realm that he was, in fact, a white dragon misguidedly pursuing the form of a fish, calling himself "a frog at the bottom of a well." Jin Mi empathized, revealing her own initial belief of being merely a "fruit fairy" for four millennia, only to find out she was a "frost flower made from water."
She suggested that ignorance could sometimes lead to happiness, as "knowing more" often brings "more pain." Run Yu then lamented that the broad-leaved epiphyllum bloomed without her presence, its beauty unappreciated, before pointedly asking Jin Mi if she truly belonged to him. He transformed into his majestic dragon form and slowly approached her, professing that his only desire was for her love to be constant and enduring, even if it was faint.
Jin Mi, overwhelmed and unable to offer such a promise, simply stated it was late and departed from Xuanji Palace. That night, Run Yu secretly visited the Floral Realm and, using his magic, examined Jin Mi. He discovered that the Yun Elixir within her had indeed cracked, causing her recent emotional changes and unreserved affections towards Xu Feng.
Distraught from witnessing their intimate dreams, Run Yu, believing it was better for Jin Mi to remain ignorant of love, decided to repair the Yun Elixir, ensuring she "wouldn't fall in love, couldn't love anyone, and would not love again." As he performed this act, he confessed that he had lost everything else and could not bear to lose her, declaring, "I only have you. Don’t leave me." He then kissed Jin Mi.
