At the police station, Captain Han received reports on the kidnappers' confessions, which were remarkably consistent, all claiming the motive was solely for ransom. Captain Han expressed his suspicion to the Chief, noting that while Nie Wanfeng was a wealthy businessman and a ransom demand seemed plausible, the identical and swift confessions from all suspects were unusual.

He believed they might be intentionally concealing the true purpose behind the abduction, prompting the Chief to instruct a thorough investigation to uncover the truth. Meanwhile, at his home, Nie Wanfeng put his son Chengcheng to bed. His subordinate reported that the kidnapping was orchestrated by Hou Sihai's men, specifically Sun Wei's group. Despite the offense, Nie Wanfeng, with a cunning demeanor, decided against immediate retaliation.

He stated that directly confronting Hou Sihai would jeopardize his future plans, and instead, he intended to show them "courtesy." He then ordered his subordinate to swiftly investigate Liu Ziguang, the young man who rescued his son from the kidnappers. As he thought of Liu Ziguang, a complex expression flickered across Nie Wanfeng's face. He harbored a secret past as Ye Wanglong, a notorious drug lord, who had reinvented himself as the entrepreneur Nie Wanfeng.

Liu Ziguang, who once knew his true identity, now posed a significant concern, leaving Nie Wanfeng to wonder if his survival was "a blessing or a curse." He reflected on his past as Ye Wanglong, instructing his men, including Liu Ziguang, to lay low when he was away, indicating Liu Ziguang's position of trust and authority. He also recollected conversations about establishing the "Major Development Group" as part of his new identity.

Back at the police station, Hu Rong requested permission from Captain Han to investigate Liu Ziguang. However, Captain Han denied her request, reminding her of her recent punishment that restricted her from field work for a month. Hu Rong, undeterred and feigning compliance, declared she would stay late to "study and increase her knowledge" and "self-reflect" on her "disregard for regulations." Understanding her stubborn nature, Captain Han silently ordered a nourishing supper to be delivered to her office.

Later that evening, Hu Rong received a call from her parents. She tried to mislead her father, Hu Yuejin, by pretending she was out singing, but he revealed he had already spoken to Captain Han and knew she was working overtime. Her mother then took the phone, scolding Hu Rong for her recklessness during the earlier encounter with the kidnappers and expressing her long-standing apprehension about Hu Rong pursuing a dangerous career in criminal investigation.

She also admitted to feeling "ill at ease" recently. Hu Yuejin tried to reassure his wife, telling her not to "overthink it." Liu Ziguang and Guo Dazhi arrived at Guo Dazhi's modest home, an auto maintenance shop with a small courtyard that he proudly called his "mansion." Inside, Guo Dazhi presented Liu Ziguang with a white porcelain urn, explaining that it contained his father's ashes, which he had safeguarded for eight years.

Guo Dazhi expressed his profound relief at finally being able to return them, confessing his fear of dying before finding Liu Ziguang. He fondly recalled Liu Ziguang's father as a virtuous man who always "helped others and stood up against injustice" and never stayed silent, living by the principle: "Bad people inflict violence because good people stay silent." Overwhelmed, Liu Ziguang knelt before Guo Dazhi.

Guo Dazhi, a solitary old man, then offered to adopt Liu Ziguang as his son, promising to care for him and even help him find a wife. As they ate, Guo Dazhi inquired about Liu Ziguang's whereabouts during the past eight years, noting the physical changes in him, including his increased musculature, a facial scar, a tattoo, and evidence of knife and bullet wounds.

Liu Ziguang explained that he had no memory of those years, only recalling his father's death and being rescued on a beach two days prior, where doctors diagnosed him with head trauma and amnesia. Guo Dazhi reassured Liu Ziguang, expressing his unwavering belief that Liu Ziguang would not have done anything bad and encouraging him to let his memories return naturally without stress. The following day, Hu Rong once again approached Captain Han, pushing for an investigation into Liu Ziguang.

She highlighted his unusual ability to subdue several armed kidnappers single-handedly and emerge unscathed, suggesting he had received "special training." She also pointed out his eight-year disappearance, amnesia, and the presence of gun wounds, knife wounds, and a tattoo, all contributing to her suspicion that he was "not simple." Captain Han reiterated the need to adhere to protocol, insisting that Liu Ziguang was not a suspect and required a search warrant.

Frustrated, Hu Rong retorted that by the time a warrant was issued, it would be "too late." Captain Han remained firm, stating, "I don't care if hell freezes over first. These are the rules." Annoyed, Hu Rong declared it was her day off and she was going home to sleep. At home, Hu Yuejin received an urgent call informing him that Officer Huang Zhenwu, an undercover agent and his mentor, had lost contact.

He immediately instructed the provincial office not to give up on finding him and called Captain Han to enlist their unit's help in the search. The news filled Hu Yuejin with a profound sense of unease. When Hu Rong returned home later, she found her parents sitting silently at the dinner table, their expressions somber. She tried to lighten the mood, initially assuming they had fought or were considering divorce.

Her mother, trying to conceal the deeper distress, explained that her father had received a call about an old comrade who was gravely ill. Hu Rong, sensing her parents' unusual sadness, pressed for more details, but her mother vaguely replied that Hu Rong wouldn't know the comrade, and her father excused himself to lie down, unwilling to elaborate further.

As Liu Ziguang stepped out of his house, he was unexpectedly greeted by a young man named A-Se, who immediately knelt and addressed him as "Sect Leader." A-Se introduced himself as Liu Ziguang's "Right Light Envoy," claiming Liu Ziguang had promised to teach him new techniques, which Liu Ziguang dismissed as "nonsense." Before Liu Ziguang could fully comprehend the situation, a group of Hou Sihai's men, led by Monkey, arrived.

Monkey demanded Liu Ziguang accompany them, threatening harm to Guo Dazhi if he refused. To protect Guo Dazhi, Liu Ziguang followed them to an underground parking lot, where Sun Wei and more men on motorcycles awaited. Sun Wei challenged Liu Ziguang, who, despite his amnesia, displayed remarkable agility and strength, swiftly incapacitating the attackers. A-Se joined the fray, condemning their "despicable" ambush on his "Sect Leader."

Just as the fight intensified, police sirens pierced the air, prompting Sun Wei and his men to flee on their motorcycles. A-Se attempted to pursue them, but Liu Ziguang stopped him. Hu Rong and her colleagues soon arrived at the scene. Recognizing Liu Ziguang, she irritably accused him of being involved in the gang fight, stating she would take him back to the station for questioning.

Liu Ziguang, denying any involvement and disclaiming knowledge of A-Se, requested she take A-Se with her instead. A-Se, still kneeling and calling Liu Ziguang "Sect Leader," confused Hu Rong, who was further irked when Liu Ziguang referred to her as an "auntie policewoman." After Liu Ziguang went home and found Guo Dazhi sleeping peacefully, Hu Rong brought A-Se to the police station.

She ordered a KFC family bucket meal for him, and after initial hesitation due to his "Sect Leader's" rule not to accept food from strangers, A-Se eagerly devoured the meal, affectionately calling Hu Rong his "Fairy Sister." When asked for contact information, A-Se produced a "New Student Recommendation Letter" from his pocket, which Hu Rong identified as a recommendation letter. Later, Liu Ziguang visited a stadium and observed people running.

The sharp blast of a whistle triggered a flood of disturbing, fragmented memories from a past at a drug trafficking base. Overwhelmed, he instinctively leapt onto the track and began sprinting wildly, astonishing the other runners with his incredible speed.

Back home, as more fragments of his past surfaced, Liu Ziguang was visibly disturbed, grappling with the disorienting question of what he had truly done during the eight years he couldn't remember, and why A-Se knew him and called him "Sect Leader."
