Lu Yi confronts Yan Shifan about Yuan Jinxia's whereabouts. Yan Shifan feigns ignorance, but Lu Yi, anticipating this, states he only came to make it clear that he knows Yan Shifan is responsible and will now find her using his own methods. Meanwhile, enraged that Lu Yi and Xu Jing had his relative Yan Shaoqiong imprisoned, Yan Shifan vows not to swallow the insult and prepares to unleash a cruel "play" he has devised for Lu Yi.
Yan Shifan has Yuan Jinxia bound to a torture device. He taunts her, claiming he initially liked her and might have shown mercy, but Lu Yi's opposition to his family has forced his hand. He tells her to direct any hatred toward Lu Yi. Yuan Jinxia defiantly retorts that she and Lu Yi are no longer together and he cannot be threatened.
Amused, Yan Shifan reveals that Lu Yi had just been there looking for her and proposes a cruel bet on whether Lu Yi will go to great lengths to save her. To underscore the stakes, he begins driving a nail into her body. Despite the torment, Yuan Jinxia curses him and vows to avenge her family.
Yan Shifan then delivers a shocking revelation: it was Lu Yi's own father, Lu Ting, who forced Qiu Cheng to write the impeachment letter years ago, making the Lu family as much her enemy as the Yan family. Yuan Jinxia refuses to believe him, but Yan Shifan insists she can ask Lu Yi herself, provided she survives. He then removes her hair stick and instructs his subordinate, Yan Feng, to continue the torture.
Lu Yi successfully rescues Lin Ling and Mr. Beggar from their captivity but finds that Yuan Jinxia has already been taken elsewhere. A distraught Lin Ling wishes to beg Yan Shifan for Jinxia's life, but Lu Yi stops her, explaining that her desperation is exactly what Yan Shifan wants to see. He instructs Yang Yue to settle Lin Ling and Mr. Beggar and inform Xie Xiao, while he returns to the North Bureau to organize a search.
Enraged by the escape, Yan Shifan orders Jinxia's hair stick to be delivered to Lu Yi. Upon receiving the hair stick from Yan Feng, Lu Yi senses the grave danger Jinxia is in and rushes to Yan Shifan's mansion. At the mansion, Yan Shifan relishes Lu Yi's anxious state and cruelly describes the torture method he is using on Jinxia: an instrument with spikes designed to drain blood slowly, ensuring a prolonged and agonizing death.
As his condition for her release, Yan Shifan demands Yan Shaoqiong's confession. Lu Yi immediately returns to his father, Lu Ting, and desperately asks for the document. Lu Ting initially refuses, emphasizing its importance as evidence against Yan Shaoqiong. In a rare act of desperation, Lu Yi kneels before his father, shocking Lu Ting with his "indulgence in love." Lu Ting remains firm, arguing the confession is crucial and cannot be surrendered.
Lu Yi counters that Jinxia is already dying and reminds his father of his own mother's tragic death, declaring he will not allow someone else to die because of him. Finally, Lu Yi reveals that the woman Yan Shifan holds is Xia Ran's granddaughter. This revelation stuns Lu Ting, who, moved by guilt over the Xia family's fate, relents. He hands over the confession and promises to send his own men to search Yan Shifan's known safehouses.
Weakened by the torture, Yuan Jinxia clings to consciousness, determined to survive and uncover the truth, all while wondering if rescue will come. Meanwhile, Lu Yi returns to Yan Shifan with the confession. He demands to know Jinxia's location, but Yan Shifan insists on receiving the confession first, coldly remarking on her likely imminent death. Lu Yi hands it over, and Yan Shifan immediately tears it to shreds. He then demands that Lu Yi beg him.
With a trembling voice, Lu Yi complies. Unsatisfied, Yan Shifan points to the ground, compelling Lu Yi to kneel. After a tense internal struggle, Lu Yi drops to his knees, to the astonishment of his subordinate, Cen Fu. Yan Shifan erupts in cackling laughter, taunting the famously proud Lu Yi for kneeling for a woman.
He gives Lu Yi a final clue: he wants Jinxia to "die with her family," and Lu Yi must guess the location himself, warning that any delay will mean finding a corpse. Lu Yi instantly deduces the location is the abandoned Xia Mansion. At the same time, Lin Ling, Yang Chengwan, Yang Yue, and Xie Xiao learn the news and also rush to the mansion. The group frantically searches the dilapidated grounds.
Lu Yi notices an unusual detail: water is still flowing in a landscaping feature despite the house being deserted for over a decade. He investigates and finds a hidden mechanism. Upon activating it, Yuan Jinxia's tortured body, covered in spikes, emerges from the water. Once Jinxia is safe, Lin Ling begins the painstaking process of removing the numerous spikes from her body, while Lu Yi watches in anguish. Jinxia remains pale and unconscious.
Lin Ling advises everyone to leave to allow Jinxia to recover in peace, but Lu Yi insists on staying by her side. Left alone with the unconscious Jinxia, he recalls a past moment when she asked if he felt sorry for her, and he now silently admits to himself how deeply he does. Later, Mrs. Yuan is relieved to learn from Lin Ling that Jinxia's life is no longer in danger.
Seeing Lu Yi's unwavering vigil, she expresses her quiet hope for their future. After two days without sleep, Lu Yi is still by Jinxia's bedside when she finally awakens. Recognizing he saved her, Jinxia, remembering Yan Shifan's bet and Lu Yi's previous declaration that they were separated, asks him why he came back for her. Lu Yi is left flustered and speechless. When Lin Ling enters with medicine, he hastily finds an excuse to depart. Meanwhile, Lu Ting's health worsens.
He informs Lu Yi that without the confession, the Emperor released Yan Shaoqiong, strengthening Yan Song's faction. Yan Shifan is surprised to learn of Jinxia's survival but is confident that Lu Yi remains ignorant of the new, explosive secret Jinxia now knows about the feud between their families. As Yang Yue prepares restorative porridge for Jinxia, Shangguan Xi laments the difficult path ahead for the couple, hoping they can overcome their obstacles.
