Upon entering the room, the group discovered Xin had been tragically killed. Lan Qingxuan was overcome with grief, collapsing to his knees and crying uncontrollably, lamenting how cruel the murderer was to such a young child. Yuan Jinxia and Lu Yi were equally distraught, with Jinxia comforting Lan Qingxuan as tears streamed down her own face. Meanwhile, Shangguan Xi and Yang Yue, both heavily intoxicated, continued their drunken revelry.

Yang Yue, despite claiming not to be drunk, had a face as red as a monkey's bottom. When Shangguan Xi playfully asked if he secretly loved her, Yang Yue earnestly affirmed his devotion, stating that only she existed in his mind and eyes. He swore by the God of Marriage to never leave her side, prompting Shangguan Xi to find him incredibly "cute."

When Shangguan Xi suddenly fell, Yang Yue tried to help her, and they both ended up on the ground, their eyes meeting. The following morning, Yang Yue awoke and immediately declared his intention to return to the capital and have his father officially propose marriage to Shangguan Xi.

However, Shangguan Xi dismissed his proposal, insisting that whatever they had said the previous night was merely drunken chatter and should be forgotten, as she did not want to marry someone she didn't love. Yang Yue, though, firmly stated that despite the liquor, his feelings were clear, and he always honored his vows. He reiterated his promise to never leave her, regardless of her feelings for him.

Shangguan Xi retorted that even she, a woman, didn't care about such drunken words, questioning why he, a man, was so pedantic. She pulled her hand away from his, leaving him with a resolute back as she walked away. At the Danqing Taoist Temple, Lan Qingxuan erected a grave for Xin, expressing his deep sorrow for failing to protect the boy he had wanted to care for.

He vowed to find and kill the murderer, asking for heavenly punishment if he failed. Yuan Jinxia tried to console him, suggesting Xin might now be with his parents. Wishing to be alone, Lan Qingxuan asked the others to leave. He reminisced about Xin's curiosity about the outside world, recalling promises to buy him caramelized haws and sweetened rice wafers, and Xin's dream of protecting the ancestral hall's altar lamp and the Dragon Lord.

Lan Qingxuan pledged to relight the altar lamp himself. Shortly after, Lu Yi encountered Master Yuanming and questioned him about his whereabouts during the murder. Lu Yi voiced his suspicion that Yuanming was hiding something, connecting him to both Xin's death and Fatso's earlier disappearance. Master Yuanming claimed to have been sick in his room all day. Though Lu Yi departed without further questioning, Master Yuanming understood he was now under suspicion.

A little later, Master Yuanming summoned the still grief-stricken Lan Qingxuan and asked him to fetch Lu Yi for an important discussion. After Lan Qingxuan left, Master Yuanming consumed a pill. When Lu Yi arrived, he directly accused Master Yuanming of being involved in Xin's death, reasoning that only he had the opportunity. Master Yuanming implicitly confessed, admitting that Xin had "seen something he shouldn't have."

He then dismissed Lu Yi's lack of clear evidence, confidently asserting that the Danqing Taoist Temple was his territory. When Lu Yi confronted him about poisoning the emperor's elixir, Master Yuanming denied it, challenging Lu Yi to provide proof. Lu Yi then realized he had been drugged by a colorless and odorless incense.

Master Yuanming revealed he had deliberately incapacitated Lu Yi to force him to stay at the temple for a few more days, allowing him time to complete the elixir. Master Yuanming helped the disoriented Lu Yi back to his room and administered some pills. Shortly after, Yuan Jinxia arrived and spotted a figure retreating from Lu Yi's room. Unable to pursue, she rushed to Lu Yi's side, finding him collapsed on the floor with a high fever.

Xie Xiao and Lan Qingxuan arrived, and together they moved the unconscious Lu Yi to his bed. Yuan Jinxia insisted on staying to care for him. Cen Fu agreed to guard the door and, over Xie Xiao's objections about propriety, pulled him away, acknowledging Jinxia could provide better care. Meanwhile, Master Yuanming returned to his room, relieved that no one would disrupt his lifelong efforts. When Lan Qingxuan reported Lu Yi's injury, Master Yuanming feigned surprise and concern.

At the docks, Shangguan Xi was overseeing the transfer of goods for the Wu'an Gang. Yang Yue approached, offering her a coat and a basket of specially cooked food. Shangguan Xi coldly rejected his gestures, warning him to stay away or their friendship would be jeopardized. Seeing her resolute demeanor, Yang Yue sadly placed the basket down and left. Shangguan Xi watched him go, a flicker of guilt in her eyes.

Later, Lu Yi awoke and, disoriented, seized Yuan Jinxia, not recognizing her. He nearly choked her before Cen Fu intervened. Lu Yi's memory had regressed to seven years prior, before he became an Embroidered Uniform Guard, and he addressed Cen Fu by his old name, Cen Afu. To pacify him, Cen Fu explained that Jinxia was his relative, leading Lu Yi to release her.

Jinxia watched as Lu Yi meticulously cleaned a sword, and Cen Fu explained it belonged to Ade, Lu Yi's best friend. The final test to become an Embroidered Uniform Guard required them to forsake emotions, even by killing their closest friends. Ade had tragically died from an arrow on the battlefield. Jinxia reflected on how this brutal practice was why she had always detested the Guards.

However, her time with Lu Yi had changed her perspective; she realized he was not truly heartless, and his sorrow for Ade's death proved that no human could be entirely devoid of emotion. Suddenly, Lu Yi was overcome with a severe headache. Yuan Jinxia immediately had Cen Fu summon Lin Ling. After examining Lu Yi, Lin Ling stated there were no physical injuries, but his pulse suggested he was suffering from hysteria.

Though Cen Fu expressed doubt, Lu Yi calmly interjected, urging Cen Afu to trust the doctor. Lin Ling agreed to prescribe medicine to improve blood circulation, hoping it would alleviate the hysteria. Meanwhile, Shangguan Xi found a letter and breakfast left by Yang Yue. In his note, he explained he had urgent matters and was leaving to avoid bothering her further, urging her to take care of herself.

Separately, Zhai Lanye reported to Yan Shifan that the skilled doctor who had removed Lu Yi's poison was named Lin Ling. Yan Shifan's interest was piqued, triggering a flashback. He recalled having bound Lin Ling, taunting her and threatening her family. She feigned compliance to be freed, only to cunningly stab his left eye with a hidden needle the moment he untied her.
