Lu Yi slept restlessly while Yuan Jinxia sought to please Doctor Lin. Spotting Doctor Lin about to leave to gather herbs, Yuan Jinxia quickly slung a bamboo basket over her back and followed. Recalling Mr. Beggar's advice that Doctor Lin disliked talkative people, Yuan Jinxia remained quiet. When Doctor Lin began harvesting, Yuan Jinxia eagerly took the sickle to help, only for several snakes to suddenly appear, startling her.

Doctor Lin calmly scattered some medicinal powder on the ground, causing the snakes to retreat and revealing that she raised the venomous creatures in the forest. Yuan Jinxia was deeply curious about Doctor Lin and why she chose such a reclusive life in Maple Col. Later, Doctor Lin needed water, and Yuan Jinxia promptly volunteered to fetch it from the spring. However, despite several attempts, Doctor Lin repeatedly rejected the water.

Yuan Jinxia calmed herself and used her tracking expertise to locate the specific gushing spring water Doctor Lin desired. Meanwhile, Yang Yue, Shangguan Xi, and Xie Xiao, following the secret signs Yuan Jinxia had left, arrived at the outskirts of Maple Col on a bamboo raft. Upon Yuan Jinxia's return with the correct water, Doctor Lin finally approved, prompting Yuan Jinxia to fetch even more.

Watching Yuan Jinxia's persistent demeanor, Doctor Lin mused that her resolve reminded her of someone familiar. Elsewhere, Yan Shifan prepared for his departure back to the capital, still refusing to take Di Lanye with him, leaving her deeply disappointed. Back at the wooden house, Yuan Jinxia grew increasingly worried as Lu Yi's condition worsened. Doctor Lin instructed Yuan Jinxia to gather some snakes from the forest, explaining they were necessary to save Lu Yi.

Though still afraid, Yuan Jinxia bravely set out to catch them. After Yuan Jinxia left, Doctor Lin unbuttoned Lu Yi's garments and discovered a confidential letter on his chest. The flying fish patterns on it revealed his identity as an Embroidered Uniform Guard. Meanwhile, Yang Yue, Shangguan Xi, and Xie Xiao located Mr. Beggar. They expressed their desire to enter the dangerous Maple Col forest to find Yuan Jinxia, but Mr. Beggar vehemently refused.

However, Xie Xiao and Yang Yue, unable to quell their worries, insisted, eventually carrying Mr. Beggar into the forest with them. Back in the house, Doctor Lin found Lu Yi's poison to be more potent than expected. She used a snake caught by Yuan Jinxia to extract some poison from Lu Yi's wound, but this was insufficient to cure him.

Doctor Lin explained that while the poison normally required time to be fully resolved, Lu Yi was in critical condition and could not wait. She then proposed a perilous method: using a detoxifying serum. This serum required one hundred poisons to be introduced into the blood of a living person, using the poisons as medicine and that person's blood as an inducer.

The serum would then be extracted and administered to Lu Yi for three consecutive days, but the person acting as the inducer faced a high risk of death. Doctor Lin produced a small krait, revealing it to be the most crucial of the hundred poisons. To become the inducer, one had to be bitten by it. The venom would cause spreading paralysis over several days, eventually leading to difficulty breathing and moving. Doctor Lin could not guarantee the inducer's survival.

Yuan Jinxia hesitated, thinking of her quest to find her family, her mother in the capital, and her future. She confessed to Doctor Lin that her earlier bravery with the gun was a bluff, as she was in control then, but was genuinely startled when Lu Yi had rushed to protect her. Realizing she had been deceived, Doctor Lin grew angry, declaring she would save Lu Yi but not necessarily Yuan Jinxia. Yuan Jinxia contemplated.

Lu Yi could be cold and hateful, yet he was also warm and had saved her life countless times. Reasoning that he would surely die without the serum and believing Doctor Lin would try her best to save her too, Yuan Jinxia made her decision. As if facing death, she bravely extended her arm and allowed the krait to bite her. Meanwhile, Mr. Beggar led the others deeper into the forest.

Frustrated by the snakes, Xie Xiao impulsively set the forest on fire. As flames spread, Mr. Beggar frantically urged the others to extinguish the blaze. Hearing the commotion, Doctor Lin rushed to the scene. After the fire was put out, numerous snakes approached the group, causing Mr. Beggar to flee in terror. Doctor Lin arrived, expressing her displeasure at their having nearly destroyed her cherished forest.

Mr. Beggar, hiding behind a tree, was soon discovered by the doctor, whom he addressed as Ling. He nervously explained he was forced to bring them. Lin Ling, her eyes welling with tears, told them to follow her. Guided by Lin Ling, the group found Yuan Jinxia. Xie Xiao, relieved but disrespectful of Lin Ling, insisted on taking everyone back to Yangzhou for treatment. Lin Ling's expression darkened, prompting Shangguan Xi to intercede.

Lin Ling noted Lu Yi's poison was strange, wondering what "crazy person" could have made it. Yuan Jinxia awkwardly confessed it was Mr. Beggar. Enraged, Lin Ling grabbed Mr. Beggar by the ear and dragged him into the house. Xie Xiao continued to pester Yuan Jinxia, who, feeling unwell from the venom, grew impatient and went inside. Yang Yue held Xie Xiao back from following.

Inside, it was revealed that Mr. Beggar and Lin Ling were fellow disciples; he learned to make poisons, and she to detoxify them. They once bet that if he could create a poison she couldn't cure, she would grant him one wish, leading to his creation of the potent "Blue Hairpin poison." Lin Ling explained the only way to save Lu Yi was with a serum using Yuan Jinxia as the inducer.

Mr. Beggar was shocked at her cruelty, but Lin Ling retorted by reminding him their family had been killed by the Embroidered Uniform Guards, and Lu Yi was one of them. As the venom took effect, Yuan Jinxia began to feel alternately hot and cold. Doctor Lin gave her medicine to slow the poison's spread.

Then, preparing a separate remedy for Lu Yi, she added a few drops of Yuan Jinxia's blood to it and instructed her to give it to him. Yuan Jinxia helped the unconscious Lu Yi sit up, but he remained unresponsive and would not open his mouth. Mr. Beggar then suggested she feed him the medicine mouth-to-mouth.
