Whirlwind Girl Recap
Episode 1 Recap
The 23rd An Yang Yuan Wu Dao DoJo's semi-competition was underway, with Qi Bai Cao from Song Bai DoJo facing the defending champion, Fang Ting Yi of Xian Wu DoJo. Before the match began, a personal conflict surfaced as Fang Ting Yi confronted Qi Bai Cao about a strawberry hair tie, claiming it as her own despite Qi Bai Cao stating that Senior Chu Yuan had given it to her.
Fang Ting Yi appeared visibly angered, and as the match started, she dominated Qi Bai Cao with powerful, precise moves. Qi Bai Cao, struggling to retaliate, observed that Fang Ting Yi effortlessly anticipated her barely mastered attack stances, feeling the vast difference between a "genius and a nobody."
Despite Qi Bai Cao's known endurance, a commentator noted that while Fang Ting Yi might be a "flower that blooms within a greenhouse," Qi Bai Cao was "persistent grass which has survived wind and rain." Fang Ting Yi then declared her intention to fight "very seriously." Although Qi Bai Cao believed she still had strength within her, she ultimately lost the match.
One month prior, Qi Bai Cao dedicated herself to working various jobs, earning money for her ailing master, Qu Xiang Nan. Her friend, Fan Xiaoying, urged her to watch the Yuan Wu Dao Youth Competition finals, but Qi Bai Cao prioritized her master's medical expenses, even as Fan Xiaoying pointed out that Qu Xiang Nan had his own daughter and wasn't Qi Bai Cao's biological father.
Meanwhile, the entire city of An Yang was captivated by the finals being held in Seoul, where China's Fang Ting Hao competed against Korea's two-time champion, Min Sheng Hao. Fang Ting Hao emerged victorious, defeating Min Sheng Hao by K. O. , bringing pride to An Yang, which had not seen a champion in ten years. During the award ceremony, the celebration was interrupted by Jin Min Zhu, daughter of Yuan Wu Dao Union President Jin Yi Shan.
She publicly accused Fang Ting Hao of doping, drawing a direct comparison to the scandal involving Qu Xiang Nan a decade earlier, when he was found using anabolic steroids, leading to the loss of his title and an injury to Jin Yi Shan's ligament. Fang Ting Hao vehemently rejected the accusation, stating that he would not accept a championship title tainted by such disrespect to a competitor's dignity and the spirit of Yuan Wu Dao.
The crowd rallied in support of Fang Ting Hao, reigniting public resentment against Qu Xiang Nan, whom many blamed for An Yang's previous humiliation. Outside, Qu Xiang Nan's daughter, Qu Guang Ya, faced insults from a hostile crowd who blamed her father for the city's shame.
Xiu Da intervened to defend her, and Qi Bai Cao stepped forward, proudly identifying herself as a member of Quan Sheng DoJo, demanding an apology for the insults directed at Guang Ya and the dojo. The mob retorted with scorn, labeling Quan Sheng as a place for "scums and losers." Under pressure, Qu Guang Ya was forced to apologize, lamenting being "the daughter of a loser," before fleeing.
Qi Bai Cao attempted to offer Qu Guang Ya money from Qu Xiang Nan, but Guang Ya refused, reaffirming that she had severed all ties with her father, holding him responsible for her mother's death. She advised Qi Bai Cao to abandon Qu Xiang Nan, claiming that as long as she stayed with him, she would never become a true Yuan Wu Dao disciple.
However, Qi Bai Cao steadfastly declared her loyalty, stating that her Master was more important than becoming a disciple. Later, an angry mob attacked Qu Xiang Nan as he cleaned up broken glass at his dojo. Qi Bai Cao courageously shielded him and helped with the cleanup, dismissing the mob's cruel words. She then cooked a meal for him, though it turned out to be excessively salty.
Days later, an official announcement cleared Fang Ting Hao of all doping allegations, confirming his victory as legitimate. Jin Yi Shan publicly apologized to Fang Ting Hao and presented him with his well-deserved championship medal. The 23rd An Yang Yuan Wu Dao DoJo Challenge Match opening ceremony was soon approaching.
Hall Master Zheng of Quan Sheng DoJo instructed his few remaining students to be prepared, emphasizing their role in representing the dojo despite their small numbers compared to larger institutions like Xian Wu and Song Bai. He tasked Qi Bai Cao, who had never participated in a competition, with carrying heavy props, offering her a chance to "gain experience" but denying her a dojo uniform.
At the ceremony, Qi Bai Cao met Fan Xiaoying, who expressed excitement and hope for Qi Bai Cao's future participation. Together, they witnessed Ruo Bai from Song Bai DoJo execute a spectacular spinning back kick during a recruitment demonstration, captivating the audience.
Hall Master Zheng attempted to persuade Qi Bai Cao to join the competition under his tutelage, promising her the opportunity to compete for the first time and bring glory to her deceased parents, if she listed him as her master. Qi Bai Cao refused, steadfast in her loyalty to Qu Xiang Nan, and condemned the idea of achieving success through "cheating and creating illusions for self-satisfaction."
She warned Hall Master Zheng that using fake, glued wooden boards for his demonstration would bring true shame to Quan Sheng. Despite her warning, during his performance, Hall Master Zheng was exposed by a reporter who presented a video of Qi Bai Cao's earlier argument with him, where she had voiced her opposition to the deceit. The crowd reacted with outrage, chanting "Quan Sheng is cheating!"
Furious, Hall Master Zheng confronted Qi Bai Cao, blaming her for the reporter's recording and her failure to defend him, accusing her of being a "bane" to Quan Sheng, just like her master. He ordered her to leave the dojo immediately. Qi Bai Cao stood firm, asserting her innocence and maintaining that using fake boards was fundamentally wrong, regardless of its exposure. She offered to work harder for Quan Sheng and even to appeal to the reporters for forgiveness.
Qu Xiang Nan, having overheard the confrontation, feigned agreement with Hall Master Zheng, instructing Qi Bai Cao to leave for her own good, hoping she would find a new master and learn true skills elsewhere. However, Qi Bai Cao refused to go, declaring Qu Xiang Nan her "only family" and vowing never to abandon him.
As rain began to fall heavily, Qi Bai Cao knelt outside Quan Sheng DoJo, steadfastly refusing to move, while Qu Xiang Nan watched her from a window, his heart heavy. Eventually, Fan Xiaoying arrived to lead Qi Bai Cao away.
Episode 2 Recap
The dojo organized an outing to an amusement park. Bai Cao and Yang Yang were hesitant to go on a ride, but Fan Xiao Ying and Yi Feng forcefully pulled them onto a "jump soft machine" (likely a drop or bungee ride). Xiao Ying and Yi Feng sat together, and Bai Cao and Yang Yang sat together, holding hands tightly. After the ride, both Bai Cao and Yang Yang felt sick and vomited.
Master Qu Xiang Nan ordered Bai Cao to leave Quan Sheng DoJo immediately, stating he no longer wanted to see her and that he had raised her for ten years, which was enough. Bai Cao pleaded with her Master not to make her leave, reminding him that Quan Sheng was their home. He coldly retorted that she was not his biological daughter and he had no reason to care, then had other DoJo members forcefully escort her out.
Bai Cao knelt outside the gates, begging to be let in. Guang Ya arrived, bringing Bai Cao’s belongings and telling her not to return, as the Hall Master would not change his mind. Guang Ya harshly blamed Bai Cao for shaming Quan Sheng DoJo and its members, leaving them open to ridicule. Bai Cao insisted she had done nothing wrong, but Guang Ya pressed her to consider if Quan Sheng, which had provided for her, was truly at fault.
Alone, Bai Cao reflected on her desire to be a true Yuan Wu Dao student, yet recognized her Master's importance above all else. Master Qu Xiang Nan, watching secretly, believed that for Bai Cao to live and practice Yuan Wu Dao carefree, she needed to be as far away from him as possible. Fan Xiao Ying found Bai Cao kneeling outside Quan Sheng DoJo in the rain, already looking ill.
Xiao Ying was outraged at Quan Sheng’s heartlessness for expelling Bai Cao. She urged Bai Cao to come home with her, asserting that if Quan Sheng didn't want her, Song Bai DoJo would. Bai Cao, however, refused to leave, declaring herself her Master's student and a disciple of Quan Sheng. Xiao Ying insisted that Bai Cao had been thrown out and couldn't sleep outside, but Bai Cao remained stubborn.
Determined, Xiao Ying sat down to kneel beside her friend in the rain. When Bai Cao told her it wasn't worth it, Xiao Ying tearfully confessed that she had always considered Bai Cao her best friend, who had always helped her at school. She refused to leave Bai Cao alone in the rain, eventually convincing Bai Cao to return to Xiao Ying and Bai Cao's home. At Xiao Ying's home, her parents warmly welcomed Bai Cao for dinner.
Xiao Ying's father proudly presented his specialty dish, and her mother praised Bai Cao's talents, especially after learning Bai Cao had made the delicious dumplings. This reminded Bai Cao of her Master, who loved celery and pork dumplings, and the painful memory of her Master, Qu Xiang Nan, being accused of using anabolic steroids after a match. Bai Cao asked if she could pack some dumplings to take out.
Later, she went to Quan Sheng DoJo and placed the packed dumplings and some nutritional supplements on Master Qu Xiang Nan’s windowsill, speaking to him even though he wouldn't open the window. She told him that Xiao Ying's family treated her very well, reminding her of their time together. She questioned if she had done wrong and promised to change.
Unseen, Master Qu Xiang Nan believed Bai Cao had done nothing wrong and he was the one at fault for preventing her from properly learning Yuan Wu Dao. Bai Cao promised to visit often and wait until he was willing to speak with her, leaving a small potted plant on the windowsill to accompany him.
Bai Cao helped with cleaning at Song Bai DoJo, working diligently before sunrise each day, which amused Xiao Ying, who jokingly called her a "Snail Girl." Xiu Da, a fellow student, noticed the exceptional cleanliness around the DoJo, including the gleaming uniforms, sparkling mats, and even the cobblestones on the pathway. He recognized Bai Cao and aggressively accused her of being a spy from Quan Sheng Hall, sent to steal Song Bai's skills before the upcoming Hall Challenge Matches.
Xiao Ying immediately defended Bai Cao, explaining that Bai Cao was her classmate and was staying with her family, a fact known to their Master. Another student mocked Xiu Da, reminding everyone that Bai Cao had previously defeated him. Xiu Da denied this, claiming he merely slipped. Bai Cao offered a sincere apology for not helping him up previously, which he curtly dismissed before challenging her to a competition. Ruo Bai intervened, admonishing everyone for distracting from training.
Xiu Da reiterated his spy accusation to Ruo Bai, who dismissed it, stating that all Yuan Wu Dao Martial Halls in An Yang were a family and there was no such thing as "stealing" skills. Ruo Bai then punished Xiu Da and the other students involved with five hundred frog jumps. Still smarting from the previous defeat and public humiliation, and further angered by the frog jump punishment, Xiu Da confronted Bai Cao again.
He lashed out, calling her a "jinx" and blaming her for his misfortunes, stating Quan Sheng would never take her back. Bai Cao simply reiterated her determination to return to her DoJo. Enraged, Xiu Da challenged her to a fight to prove he was superior. Bai Cao refused to fight him in secret, emphasizing her principle that Yuan Wu Dao should not be used for fighting out of anger or personal grudges, especially not in a secretive, dishonorable manner.
Ignoring her refusal, Xiu Da attacked Bai Cao, who stood her ground without fighting back, remembering her commitment. He kicked her, causing her to fall unconscious. Panicked, Xiu Da fled the scene. Soon after, Yu Chu Yuan found the injured Bai Cao and carried her back to his home to tend to her wounds. When Bai Cao awoke, she found herself in Chu Yuan's home, feeling a sense of warmth and familiarity due to his gentle care.
Chu Yuan confirmed he was indeed a kind of doctor and introduced himself as Senior Chu Yuan. Bai Cao thanked him. Xiao Ying, having learned about the attack, frantically searched for Bai Cao. Upon hearing Xiao Ying's calls, Bai Cao hastily thanked Chu Yuan and left. Xiao Ying found Bai Cao and was relieved, but immediately noticed the gauze on Bai Cao's head. She explained that the Hall Master Yu intended to expel Xiu Da from Song Bai Hall.
As they hurried back to the DoJo, Xiu Da was already begging Hall Master Yu for forgiveness, supported by other students. Hall Master Yu was adamant about expelling Xiu Da. However, Bai Cao stepped forward and, to everyone's surprise, stated that Xiu Da had not launched a sneak attack, as he had announced his kick beforehand and she had heard him.
Despite her injuries, Bai Cao truthfully testified, which persuaded Hall Master Yu to allow Xiu Da to remain at Song Bai DoJo, attributing the decision to Bai Cao's magnanimity and tasking Ruo Bai with arranging Xiu Da's punishment. Xiu Da thanked Bai Cao. Later, Xiao Ying confronted Bai Cao, convinced she had lied out of kindness.
Bai Cao denied lying, but reflected on Xiu Da's good fortune in having many peers who stood up for him, a stark contrast to her own experience of being driven out of her DoJo by her peers. Xiao Ying reassured her that from now on, she would have Xiao Ying looking after her.
Episode 3 Recap
The Korean Chang Hai Martial Arts Hall, a prominent martial arts institution, arrived in China for an exchange with the Chinese Xian Wu and Song Bai Martial Arts Halls. However, Kim Min Joo, a hot-headed young disciple from Chang Hai, bypassed the official exchange. She went directly to Quan Sheng Martial Arts Hall, looking for Qu Xiangnan, and kicked down their signboard. Ten years prior, Qu Xiangnan, representing Quan Sheng, had participated in a martial arts tournament in Korea.
He was accused of taking anabolic steroids during the competition, an incident that brought lasting negative consequences to all the martial arts halls in An Yang. Even Fang Tinghao from Xian Wu Martial Arts Hall had faced similar suspicions when he won a Sino-Korean competition. At Quan Sheng, Qu Xiangnan was enraged by Kim Min Joo's actions and wanted to confront her. However, Hall Master Zheng, his senior, held him back, urging Qu Xiangnan to avoid further trouble.
As Kim Min Joo continued to yell insults, calling Qu Xiangnan a "scum" and a "coward," Qu Xiangnan was still prevented from stepping out. Soon after, Min Sheng Hao, Kim Min Joo’s senior disciple, arrived and apologized on her behalf to the members of Quan Sheng Martial Arts Hall for the damage and disruption.
The Song Bai Martial Arts Hall began preparing for Chang Hai's visit, which was described as a warm-up for upcoming challenge matches, so a very high standard of cleanliness was required. Bai Cao was tasked with extensively cleaning the training ground and other areas. When her friend Xiao Ying protested, Senior Disciple Xiu Qin explained that Master had ordered Bai Cao to do it.
When the Chang Hai representatives arrived at Song Bai, only a few young children disembarked from their van, leaving the Song Bai disciples feeling disrespected. Min Sheng Hao went to meet with the Hall Master, leaving the young ones to interact with Song Bai. Kim Min Joo, among them, immediately began to cause trouble, throwing down a practice target. Xiao Ying confronted her, observing that she looked familiar.
Soon, she realized Kim Min Joo was the daughter of the renowned Yuan Wu Dao Master Kim Yi Shan, who had caused trouble at the World Championships. Kim Min Joo arrogantly demanded to know who was the best among them, claiming none of them could defeat her. She challenged Ruo Bai, the First Senior Disciple of Song Bai. Ping Ping stepped forward, but Kim Min Joo quickly defeated her with a single kick.
Xiao Ying then challenged Kim Min Joo, but was also swiftly taken down. Xiu Da, another male disciple, also tried and failed, remarking that it was impossible as she was younger than him but stronger. Kim Min Joo escalated her taunts, declaring that none of them were qualified to practice Yuan Wu Dao and vowing to destroy Song Bai’s signboard just as she had Quan Sheng’s.
Enraged by Kim Min Joo’s insults towards An Yang and her Master, Bai Cao stepped forward to challenge her. When Kim Min Joo refused, citing Bai Cao's lack of a uniform and her status as not being a formal Yuan Wu Dao disciple, Bai Cao defiantly stated she was "merely a cleaner at Song Bai" and asked if Kim Min Joo was afraid to fight a cleaner. Provoked, Kim Min Joo agreed to fight.
Bai Cao, using a powerful whirlwind kick, skillfully defeated Kim Min Joo. The Song Bai disciples erupted in cheers for Bai Cao. Despite her loss, Kim Min Joo accepted defeat for the moment, acknowledged Bai Cao's win, and challenged her to meet her at the training camp next year, vowing to defeat her then.
Hall Master Yu observed that Bai Cao was an extraordinary girl, noting her ability to learn Kim Min Joo's horizontal kick and add her own power and turn after only seeing it three times, demonstrating immense talent and a leg strength that surpassed even Kim Min Joo's. He concluded that she must have been training diligently for years, comparing her raw talent to that of Chu Yuan.
The news of Bai Cao defeating Kim Min Joo quickly spread throughout An Yang. Two male disciples from Song Bai Martial Arts Hall approached Bai Cao, wanting to apprentice under her. Xiao Ying seized the opportunity to jokingly remind them that they would have to pay tuition if they wanted to become apprentices. Earlier, Xiao Ying had questioned Bai Cao about coming out of Senior Disciple Chu Yuan's cabin that morning.
Chu Yuan, the son of Song Bai's Hall Master, was a former Yuan Wu Dao prodigy who, at 16, reached the national finals. However, he had withdrawn from the sport, stopped living with his parents, and now lived in his cabin, tending to plants. Hall Master Yu visited Chu Yuan, encouraging him to move back home, as his mother would be gone for a while and his hot temper wouldn't be an issue.
Chu Yuan politely declined, stating his mother would still be angry if she saw him. Bai Cao later came to Chu Yuan's cabin to apologize for getting his books dirty. Chu Yuan, noticing her bruising from the earlier fight, offered to treat her injuries with special medicinal wine. He then asked her to care for his plants, which Bai Cao gratefully accepted, promising they would bloom.
Later, Bai Cao, having purchased some food with her salary, went to Quan Sheng Martial Arts Hall to deliver it to Qu Xiangnan. However, Qu Guangya met her with hostility, accusing Bai Cao of coming to show off her victory against Kim Min Joo. She vehemently denounced Qu Xiangnan, calling him a "worthless scum" who caused their mother's death by taking steroids. Guangya ordered Bai Cao to return to Song Bai and never come back to Quan Sheng.
Meanwhile, Qu Xiangnan visited Hall Master Yu at Song Bai Martial Arts Hall. He knelt before the Hall Master, begging him to accept Bai Cao as a disciple, explaining that Bai Cao was a good martial arts prospect who needed guidance from a renowned master to improve, and that Song Bai Martial Arts Hall was the ideal place for her to train. However, Bai Cao, deeply loyal to Qu Xiangnan, refused to acknowledge Hall Master Yu as her master, reaffirming Qu Xiangnan as her only true mentor for life.
Episode 4 Recap
Bai Cao, feeling distraught after her Master Qu Xiangnan fainted when she refused to join Song Bai Martial Arts Hall, visited him in the hospital, expressing how much she missed him. Though he had woken up, Master Qu, still upset, ignored her. Ruo Bai accompanied a disheartened Bai Cao as she left the hospital, their master-disciple relationship strained and unresolved. Later, Yu Chuyuan found a despondent Bai Cao sitting in a tree.
He comforted her, advising her to voice her worries and to always do what she believed was right, even if she couldn't control the outcome. He gifted her a handmade elderflower bracelet, hoping it would bring her peace and strength. Bai Cao reflected on his words, determined to be her true self and wishing for her Master's forgiveness.
Her friends, attempting to cheer her up, discovered the bracelet and playfully speculated about its origin, even teasingly suggesting Senior Ruo Bai as the giver. News soon reached Bai Cao that Master Qu was at the Song Bai Martial Arts Hall. Believing he had finally forgiven her and was there to take her home, she rushed to him, full of hope.
However, Master Qu informed her of his decision to leave An Yang and urged her to become a disciple under Hall Master Yu at Song Bai. He sternly reminded her of her aspirations to compete and become a champion, declaring he wouldn't let her sacrifice her future for him.
Bai Cao adamantly refused, proclaiming Qu Xiangnan as her eternal Master and recounting how he had raised her and taught her Yuan Wu Dao, acting as a parent after her own parents passed. As she tearfully pleaded to remain by his side, Master Qu collapsed once more. At the hospital, the doctor explained that Master Qu's condition was due to prolonged stress and alcohol but was not severe, cautioning against further emotional agitation.
Bai Cao apologized to her unconscious Master, vowing to stay with him and singing a lullaby he used to sing, reaffirming his paternal role in her life. Ruo Bai gently led Bai Cao away, emphasizing that her Master needed rest. The next morning, Bai Cao returned to the hospital with homemade soup, only to discover her Master had been discharged. A nurse handed her a letter from Qu Xiangnan.
In it, he explained he had left An Yang for another city, urging her not to seek him out and to diligently train with Hall Master Yu. He promised to return to cheer her on in the finals of the Hall Challenge Matches. Shortly after, Hall Master Yu and Ruo Bai arrived, confirming Master Qu's wishes.
Hall Master Yu assured Bai Cao that she needn't formally acknowledge him as her Master, for Qu Xiangnan would always be her one true mentor. Donning her new Song Bai uniform, Bai Cao resolved to excel in the matches for her Master. Ruo Bai introduced Qi Bai Cao as the newest member of Song Bai Martial Arts Hall, initially pairing her with Xiao Ying for practice.
He announced an intensified training regimen for the upcoming Martial Arts Hall Challenge Matches, including extended hours. When Bai Cao expressed her eagerness to participate, some disciples, particularly Xiu Qin, scoffed, implying the coveted spots were already reserved for the most skilled: Ruo Bai, Hu Yifeng, and Xiu Qin herself. Xiao Ying, however, defended Bai Cao, recalling her impressive defeat of Kim Min Joo.
Ruo Bai intervened, asserting that all disciples were equal and declared an internal competition the following week to select the representatives. During practice, Bai Cao's powerful kicks overwhelmed Xiao Ying. Ruo Bai stepped in, holding the pads himself to gauge Bai Cao's strength. Recognizing her talent, he then reassigned Bai Cao to train with Hu Yifeng, the Second Senior Disciple—a position usually reserved for himself or Xiu Qin.
This angered Xiu Qin, who was relegated to training with a junior disciple and subsequently practiced with fierce determination, unsettling even her brother Xiu Da. Xiao Ying, however, saw Ruo Bai's decision as a clear sign of Bai Cao's growing skill. The Martial Arts Hall buzzed with news of the return of Fang Tinghao and Fang Tingyi, the celebrated "idol" and "Yuan Wu Dao Goddess" siblings from Xian Wu Martial Arts Hall, after their numerous international victories.
Disciples eagerly discussed their achievements and speculated about their participation in the upcoming Challenge Matches, fearing it would diminish Song Bai's chances. Meanwhile, Fang Tingyi called Yu Chuyuan, then immediately visited him, accidentally breaking a flowerpot at his home. They shared a warm reunion, reminiscing about the past, including a time when Chuyuan and Ruo Bai saved Fang Tinghao from drowning. Tingyi expressed her sorrow over the strained relationship between Xian Wu and Song Bai.
Outside, Bai Cao, having arrived to clean up the broken pot, saw Tingyi and Chuyuan together, which stirred an unexpected sadness within her, as she realized she seemed unable to bear seeing Yu Chuyuan with other individuals of the opposite sex. Tingyi expressed her longing for Chuyuan during her years abroad, presenting him with a gift containing their photo and asking him to spend more time with her.
She then greeted Bai Cao, acknowledging her reputation and informing her that she too would be participating in the Challenge Matches. Chuyuan advised Bai Cao to focus on her training for the upcoming selection. Back at training, Bai Cao, distracted by her emotions, accidentally kicked Hu Yifeng's hand during practice, prompting him to urge her to refocus.
Xiao Ying shared her newfound joy with Bai Cao, expressing how the revived spirit at Song Bai Martial Arts Hall, with everyone training together, felt truly wonderful. She eagerly anticipated their match in the internal competition, promising to give her all and expecting the same from Bai Cao. Hu Yifeng remarked to Ruo Bai that Bai Cao was like a tireless "robot" in her training, acknowledging her remarkable endurance but also her lack of actual competition experience.
He noted that her fighting spirit had ignited the entire Martial Arts Hall. Ruo Bai agreed, reiterating that while strength was Bai Cao's merit, relying too heavily on it could also be her flaw. The day of Song Bai Martial Arts Hall's internal competition arrived. The elimination-style tournament would determine the male and female representatives for the An Yang Martial Arts Hall Challenge Matches. Xiao Ying competed in her match.
As Ruo Bai and Hu Yifeng observed the ongoing matches, Yifeng commented on Bai Cao's fearless but defense-less offensive style, confirming Ruo Bai's earlier assessment of her strength. Finally, the last match for the female representative was announced: Xiu Qin versus Qi Bai Cao. Bai Cao's muscles visibly tensed in anticipation.
Episode 5 Recap
Qi Bai Cao prepared for her match against Wu Xiu Qin, her muscles tense with nervousness. Shen Xiaoying attempted to relax her, reminding her that winning Group B was already a significant achievement and that her match against Xiu Qin would depend on luck. Ruo Bai then poured water over Bai Cao's head to shock her into alertness, noting that her physical strength depleted quickly and brute force alone wouldn't suffice against Xiu Qin.
Bai Cao admitted that physical strength was her only advantage. While some disciples doubted Bai Cao's chances against the more experienced Xiu Qin, Xiaoying defended her, recalling her surprising victory against Kim Min Joo. Bai Cao, meanwhile, was determined to win for her Master, hoping the victory would allow her to see him again. The match began, and Bai Cao launched a furious, relentless attack.
Ruo Bai observed that such a fearless approach was only effective against less skilled opponents, noting that Bai Cao was quickly tiring while Xiu Qin remained composed. He surmised that Xiu Qin was conserving energy, waiting for Bai Cao to exhaust herself before striking. Despite her growing fatigue and blurred vision, Bai Cao refused to give up, fueled by her desire to honor her Master's promise to cheer her on in the finals.
Eventually, Xiu Qin prepared for a decisive blow, knocking Bai Cao to the ground. As everyone presumed Bai Cao's defeat, she rose and, seizing a moment when Xiu Qin was distracted by someone outside the ring, launched a final, powerful kick, winning the match. Following her victory, many disciples accused Bai Cao of a sneak attack, with some calling her deceitful and undeserving of representing Song Bai DoJo.
Xiaoying tried to defend her, explaining that visually it might have seemed like a sneak attack because Xiu Qin turned her head, but she believed Bai Cao wouldn't lie. She reassured Bai Cao that the others would eventually understand her true character. Unaware of the controversy, Bai Cao was eager to start preparing for the Hall Challenge Matches, believing she would represent Song Bai.
However, Ruo Bai announced the representatives for the Hall Challenge Matches: Hu Yifeng and himself for the male group, and Wu Xiu Qin for the female group. Despite Bai Cao's victory, Ruo Bai explained that after considering their overall performance and abilities, Xiu Qin was deemed more suitable because Bai Cao's fighting style relied solely on single, simple moves and brute force, which he believed would lead to her being crushed by opponents in the Hall Challenge Matches.
A stunned Bai Cao confronted Ruo Bai, questioning the purpose of the selection competition if the decision was already made. She argued that she had won fairly and Ruo Bai himself had declared her the victor. Other disciples continued to accuse her of cheating, but Bai Cao firmly denied it, explaining her actions were instinctual due to exhaustion and that Xiu Qin's lack of attention during the ongoing match was her own fault.
She expressed her unwillingness to accept the decision, highlighting the importance of this opportunity to her. At that moment, Fang Tingyi from Xian Wu DoJo arrived with Yu Chuyuan. Fang Tingyi suggested she spar with Bai Cao to help her understand Ruo Bai's concerns about her abilities. Ruo Bai agreed. Xiaoying warned Bai Cao that Fang Tingyi was one of the top competitors in the country, but Bai Cao was resolute, determined to prove her worth to see her Master.
Yu Chuyuan expressed concern about the significant skill disparity, emphasizing the safety risks. Ruo Bai, however, stated that Bai Cao had chosen to compete and must accept the outcome. The match between Fang Tingyi and Bai Cao commenced. Bai Cao was utterly outmatched, unable to even discern Fang Tingyi's swift kicks and sustaining a bleeding nose.
Fang Tingyi apologized for injuring her but stressed that other competitors in the Hall Challenge Matches would be far less merciful, implying Ruo Bai's decision was for Bai Cao's protection. Deeply hurt and disheartened, Bai Cao confessed to Xiaoying that while she understood Ruo Bai's rationale, she found it hard to accept. She felt she had disappointed her Master, despite her relentless training, and questioned her own worth after being so easily defeated by Xiu Qin and Fang Tingyi.
Yu Chuyuan visited Bai Cao later, offering to treat her injuries, but Bai Cao stubbornly refused help, insisting she was fine. Yu Chuyuan left ointment with Xiaoying, asking her to apply it when Bai Cao was ready. That night, Hu Yifeng expressed worry about Bai Cao's shattered confidence and suggested they visit her, but Ruo Bai dismissed him, telling him to mind his own business. Ruo Bai later encountered Yu Chuyuan outside the DoJo.
Ruo Bai challenged Yu Chuyuan about returning to the training grounds after vowing to leave Yuan Wu Dao. Yu Chuyuan tried to discuss Bai Cao, advocating for her potential and suggesting Ruo Bai help her recover from her emotional blow. However, Ruo Bai, still bitter about Yu Chuyuan's past withdrawal from Yuan Wu Dao, recalled how his role model had abandoned his responsibilities, causing Song Bai DoJo to decline without explanation.
He cut Yu Chuyuan off, telling him to stay away from Song Bai and its disciples. Yu Chuyuan silently reflected on the burden Ruo Bai had carried in his stead. The next morning, Bai Cao was absent from training. When Ruo Bai inquired, Xiaoying lied, claiming Bai Cao was sick. Ruo Bai responded curtly that if she couldn't endure a small injury, she shouldn't bother coming. Meanwhile, Bai Cao was crying alone by a lake, disheartened.
Ruo Bai found her there and severely criticized her for losing spirit after a single failure. His harsh words, however, helped Bai Cao regain her confidence. Later, at a roadside bookstall, Bai Cao, now with renewed determination, was reading some books when she unexpectedly discovered an old, worn manual titled "Whirlwind Kick Method." The book contained many profound leg techniques, but the stall owner, considering it useless, generously gave it to her.
Episode 6 Recap
Following her recent defeat, Qi Bai Cao felt disheartened and skipped practice at Song Bai DoJo. Senior Ruo Bai found her and sternly reminded her of her commitment to Yuan Wu Dao and her Master. He challenged her despair, emphasizing that true martial artists endure failure and continuously strive for improvement. Ruo Bai explained the KO rule, highlighting the importance of power and technique in Yuan Wu Dao, a balance he asserted her Master had meticulously taught her.
He urged her to reflect on her path and commitment. Later, Qi Bai Cao returned to the DoJo. Her friend, Fan Xiao Ying, expressed concern for her absence. Other students also expressed remorse for their previous treatment of Qi Bai Cao, acknowledging her kindness and hard work. They encouraged her to join the cheerleading squad for the upcoming Martial Arts Hall Challenge Matches.
Reluctantly at first, Qi Bai Cao joined the enthusiastic practice, eventually finding her smile again as they chanted cheers for Song Bai. Hu Yifeng and Ruo Bai observed the lively practice. Meanwhile, Fang Tinghao, a renowned martial artist, was on the phone with his sister, Fang Tingyi, casually dismissing interview requests, confident in his widespread fame. He mentioned making her favorite fried eggs for breakfast.
Moments later, driving recklessly, his car nearly collided with Qi Bai Cao, who had to swerve to avoid it, landing inside his car. After the car stopped, they had a contentious exchange. Fang Tinghao, believing he had saved her, expected gratitude, but Qi Bai Cao, unaware of his reputation, challenged his arrogance and demanded her book back. He teasingly wrote "Get in line" on her hand, suggesting she could teach him Yuan Wu Dao.
Fang Tinghao and Fang Tingyi then visited their mother, Wan Mei, who lay comatose in the hospital. Fang Tinghao tenderly spoke to her, showing her a medal they won in Korea and recounting their numerous victories, attributing their success to her genes. He confided that his father wanted him to take over the family business, but he had one last important competition to attend.
A flashback revealed the tragic incident years ago when Wan Mei was severely injured during a match against Yu Chuyuan’s mother, leaving her in a coma and instilling a deep-seated hatred in Fang Tinghao towards the Yu family. He reiterated his promise to his mother to defeat Yu Chuyuan. To fulfill this promise, Fang Tinghao confronted Yu Chuyuan, challenging him to participate in the Martial Arts Hall Challenge Matches. Yu Chuyuan, who had long since retired from martial arts, refused.
However, Fang Tinghao pressed him, implying dire consequences for Song Bai DoJo and Yu Chuyuan's friends if he chose to avoid the competition. Fang Tinghao was determined to win and had already commissioned a friend to gather extensive information on all potential opponents, including kick analysis, competition strategies, and even personality traits and zodiac signs, along with video footage, to ensure his victory. Back at Song Bai DoJo, Qi Bai Cao was engrossed in studying her "Tornado Kick" manual.
Other students, including Xiu Da, mocked her, dismissing it as a fraudulent "cheat book." Hu Yifeng even joked that he had several such books, which he used as makeshift risers for his bed. Ruo Bai intervened, putting an end to their teasing and instructing everyone to resume their training. During a practice session with Fan Xiao Ying, Qi Bai Cao attempted to apply the observation techniques from her book but struggled to identify what to look for.
Ruo Bai noticed her difficulty and advised her to observe the opponent's shoulders, explaining that focusing on the legs would slow her reactions. Taking his advice, Qi Bai Cao quickly grasped Fan Xiao Ying's movements and countered with a powerful kick, surprising them both. Excited by her breakthrough, Qi Bai Cao explained to Fan Xiao Ying that by observing subtle body movements, or "stances," before an opponent attacks, one can predict their moves.
Fan Xiao Ying was overjoyed, envisioning them as unbeatable champions. However, when Fan Xiao Ying tried to apply the technique, she repeatedly failed and sustained injuries from Qi Bai Cao's kicks, leading her to believe the book was unreliable. Despite the setbacks and her own injuries, Qi Bai Cao remained resolute.
Since she wouldn't be competing, she decided to dedicate her time to thoroughly mastering the "Tornado Kick" manual, believing that even if it brought no immediate glory, it would undoubtedly enhance her skills. Fan Xiao Ying, despite her protests about the pain, reluctantly agreed to continue practicing with her. Later, Yu Chuyuan visited Qi Bai Cao, showing deep concern for her injuries.
He gently cleaned and bandaged her arm, his compassionate gesture bringing a sense of warmth and comfort to Qi Bai Cao. As the night drew in, Qi Bai Cao, while conversing with Fan Xiao Ying about matters of the heart, found her thoughts drifting to the gentle and handsome Yu Chuyuan, realizing he had begun to occupy a special place in her mind. That night, she dreamt of him, their figures dancing in a shimmering, fantastical world.
Episode 7 Recap
The 23rd An Yang Yuan Wu Dao Hall Challenge Competition was underway. On the eve of the competition, Bai Cao spoke with Yu Chuyuan about a technique she was trying. She had read that a proper stance was crucial before an attack. Yu Chuyuan thought her idea was great but warned that understanding an opponent's pre-attack thoughts would be difficult and the training tough.
Bai Cao assured him she was not afraid of hardship, and he made her promise to visit him after each training session so he could check for injuries, emphasizing that unhealed injuries could damage her muscles. He also asked if she was still upset about not participating in the Hall challenge.
Bai Cao explained that she had reflected and realized her past selfishness, acknowledging that Senior Xiu Qin was better suited for the competition and would help Song Bai perform better. She also felt grateful to her teammates, who had been kind and supportive during cheerleading practice, even helping her wash uniforms and clean the premises. Yu Chuyuan assured her that anyone who truly got to know her would like her.
Later, Xiao Ying excitedly showed Bai Cao a cheer she had written, hoping to impress Ruo Bai and make him see her as a good wife. Bai Cao noted Xiao Ying’s newfound dedication to cheerleading. Xiao Ying explained that since she couldn't compete alongside Ruo Bai, she wanted to cheer him on with all her might, feeling as if she were fighting beside him. Bai Cao then asked Xiao Ying what it felt like to like someone.
Xiao Ying described it as not minding if the person didn't reciprocate, feeling content just to be by their side, and feeling like the world was full of sunshine when they smiled. She also described a pang of jealousy when seeing that person with someone else. Xiao Ying then teased Bai Cao, saying she was too focused on Yuan Wu Dao because she'd never dated, implying that dating would make her forget about practice.
The competition officially began, with the first match between Song Bai DoJo's Ruo Bai and Hai Kuan DoJo's Ping Chuan. Ping Chuan aggressively attacked, but Ruo Bai remained calm, defending to gauge his opponent's strength. Despite Ping Chuan's powerful kicks, he lacked speed. After several rounds, Ruo Bai seized an opportunity and landed a kick, winning the match. The Song Bai cheerleading team, led by Bai Cao, celebrated with enthusiasm.
The next round saw Xiu Qin from Song Bai face Lan Ying from Hai Kuan. Lan Ying proved to be a formidable opponent, delivering fierce attacks that put Xiu Qin on the defensive. Some members of the Song Bai cheerleading team began to lose hope, but Bai Cao steadfastly encouraged Xiu Qin, urging everyone not to give up and to have faith in their senior.
Inspired by Bai Cao's unwavering support and the renewed cheers, Xiu Qin managed to turn the tide, ultimately defeating Lan Ying. With this victory, Song Bai secured their overall win, having already won the two previous rounds with Ruo Bai and Yi Feng. After the matches, as the Song Bai team celebrated their victory, some former members of Quan Sheng Martial Arts Hall confronted Bai Cao.
Guang Ya accused Bai Cao of betraying Quan Sheng for joining Song Bai, questioning her loyalty to Master Qu Xiang Nan, who had raised and trained her. Xiao Ying quickly interjected, explaining that Quan Sheng had used dishonest tactics and had expelled Bai Cao in shame, and that Master Qu himself had brought Bai Cao to Song Bai. Ruo Bai advised Bai Cao that some things didn't need detailed explanations, as trying to clarify could make right seem wrong.
He told her simply to do her best. The team then shared a celebratory meal where everyone toasted Ruo Bai, Xiu Qin, and the cheerleading team, acknowledging their collective efforts. Bai Cao was thanked for her powerful cheerleading, and another teammate, Yi Feng, expressed confidence in winning his future match with Bai Cao’s cheers. Back at the DoJo, Bai Cao continued her practice, attempting to apply her technique of observing an opponent's attack stance.
She found some initial success with Xiao Ying, seeing her moves almost in slow motion. However, Ruo Bai soon changed her opponents, having her spar with Xiu Da, Ping Ping, Yin Yin, and Yang Rui. Bai Cao struggled, unable to read their varied movements, and was repeatedly defeated. She questioned if her training was a waste, bewildered by the differences in her opponents’ patterns.
Ruo Bai then explained that while she might be able to analyze one person’s moves, it was impossible to study every martial artist in the world, as each had their own unique variations. He told her to reflect on this. Xiao Ying tried to comfort Bai Cao, suggesting they find another method.
Feeling confused and discouraged, Bai Cao later went to a grassy area outside the DoJo to continue practicing her whirlwind kick, wishing her Master Qu Xiang Nan was there to guide her. She tried to understand why every person's momentum for a single move was so different. While she was practicing, Fang Tinghao, who had just finished a phone call with his sister Fang Tingyi, noticed Bai Cao.
He playfully pretended to be injured by her kick, exaggerating his pain and claiming she owed him compensation. He then convinced her to treat him to dinner at an expensive restaurant. Inside, Bai Cao was visibly anxious about the high prices and only ordered water, while Fang Tinghao ordered an elaborate meal. While Bai Cao was in the restroom, worrying about her finances, Fang Tinghao secretly paid the bill.
As they left, Fang Tinghao tried to make Bai Cao believe they were "dining and dashing," causing her immense panic. She insisted on going back to pay, citing her Master's teachings about honesty. A waiter then stopped them, but it was to present them with a gift from the hotel. Realizing Fang Tinghao had tricked her, Bai Cao became angry. She tried to pay him for her share of the meal, even calculating the exact amount, but he refused.
Fang Tinghao then offered some advice that helped her gain a new perspective on martial arts techniques, suggesting that despite individual variations, underlying commonalities might exist in their movements. This advice resonated with Bai Cao, lifting her spirits. She quickly returned to the DoJo, where she easily defeated a fellow student with a single move, having gained a new understanding. Later, as Yu Chuyuan tended to Bai Cao's training injuries, Fang Tingyi arrived.
Observing Yu Chuyuan's caring demeanor towards Bai Cao, she grew visibly jealous. Fang Tingyi pointedly remarked that Yu Chuyuan was kind to everyone, even small animals, implying Bai Cao shouldn't think he treated her specially. After Yu Chuyuan left for a moment, Fang Tingyi confronted Bai Cao directly, accusing her of feigning injuries to gain Yu Chuyuan's attention, reminding Bai Cao that Yu Chuyuan was the person she liked. That evening, as Shen Xiao Ying and her mother were applying facial masks and watching TV, Fang Tingyi appeared in an advertisement.
Episode 8 Recap
A news report announced An Yang's new role as the National Yuan Wu Dao Youth Headquarters, with the renowned Coach Shen Ning leading as head coach. In an exclusive interview, Shen Ning stated that An Yang, being her hometown and the birthplace of Yuan Wu Dao, was the ideal location.
She confirmed that athletes for the training camp would be selected from the current year's Martial Arts Hall Challenge Matches, emphasizing her focus on the strongest, most unique, and highest-potential individuals. The news electrified the disciples at Song Bai DoJo, including Xiu Qin, who declared her intent to impress Coach Shen Ning. Meanwhile, Fang Tinghao, who had once again sponsored Shen Ning's operation of the martial arts training base in An Yang, met with her.
He seemed to want to use his influence to secure preferential treatment for someone to enter the training camp. However, Shen Ning, known for her integrity, firmly advised him against any opportunistic actions, emphasizing that the selection criteria for the training camp were strict and designed to identify true professional potential. Later, Fang Tinghao visited Ruo Bai, offering him a tablet containing comprehensive analyses of all the athletes.
He admitted he had come to see Chu Yuan, remarking that Chu Yuan remained as timid as ever. Ruo Bai reminded him that Chu Yuan had already quit martial arts and asked him not to bother him. Fang Tinghao recalled Ruo Bai's earlier sadness over Chu Yuan's departure, questioning if he had forgiven him, then declared that the athlete data was his help.
Despite Hu Yifeng's suspicion, Ruo Bai accepted the tablet, believing Fang Tinghao was too proud to provide misleading information. Amidst the excitement, the second round of Yuan Wu Dao preliminaries was set to begin. Xiu Qin, rushing to the competition venue, inadvertently stepped into the path of an oncoming car and was struck. Though the car's speed was not high, she suffered a fractured right leg.
At the hospital, the doctor informed her that she would need at least a month and a half to recover and should avoid walking. Devastated, Xiu Qin cried out her desire to compete, but her fellow disciples held her back. Ruo Bai arrived and relayed the news that the match had been postponed to the weekend, giving them time to find a replacement. He urged Xiu Qin to prioritize her recovery, stating that no competition was worth permanent injury.
He then instructed Bai Cao to take Xiu Qin's place in the upcoming competitions, a chance Bai Cao had eagerly sought, having previously challenged Xiu Qin for a spot in the competition, despite her perceived lack of strength at the time. The news of Bai Cao as Xiu Qin's replacement caused some apprehension among the other disciples, who expressed worries about her recent lack of offensive spirit, especially after her previous defeat by Fang Ting Yi.
Ruo Bai announced that he and Hu Yifeng would intensively train Bai Cao for the next competition. However, Bai Cao, burdened by previous setbacks (concerning Chu Yuan) and her inexperience, confessed to Ruo Bai that she felt inadequate and feared losing. Ruo Bai, without words, tested her with a powerful roundhouse kick, which she skillfully dodged. He then pointed out her improved strength, asserting that her ability to evade his kick proved her progress and readiness to compete.
He motivated her by reminding her that her Master was awaiting her performance. Ruo Bai further supported her by showing her videos of her opponent, Mei Ling, describing her as a 19-year-old veteran of two World Championships with a fast, powerful side kick, even stronger than Xiu Qin. Bai Cao worried about bringing shame to Song Bai, but Ruo Bai reassured her that as an unknown fighter, she had no pressure to lose.
During this period, earlier interactions came to Bai Cao's mind. While Chu Yuan was treating her injuries, Fang Ting Yi had arrived and made pointed remarks, suggesting Bai Cao was intentionally hurting herself to gain Chu Yuan's attention, and advised her to focus on her studies and competitions rather than her affections. Hurt, Bai Cao had thanked Chu Yuan and left, promising not to bother him again.
Chu Yuan later tried to clarify that Ting Yi's words were just a joke and that Bai Cao was always welcome for treatment, but Bai Cao, influenced by Ting Yi's words, insisted on focusing on training and declined his help. Meanwhile, Shen Xiaoying, watching Fang Ting Yi's commercial, fantasized about Fang Ting Yi marrying Chu Yuan and herself becoming a successful manager.
Shen Xiaoying, who harbored a secret crush on Ruo Bai, suspected he had developed feelings for Bai Cao due to his repeated special attention. Overhearing Ruo Bai's intense training of Bai Cao, she further speculated that he saw great potential in Bai Cao or was simply being diligent for Bai Cao's first competition. Secretly observing them, she lamented Ruo Bai's single-minded devotion to Yuan Wu Dao and her unrequited feelings for him.
Hu Yifeng, who had been hiding nearby, emerged and teased her about her secret crush. She tearfully begged him to tell Ruo Bai how much she liked him, but he simply said he was going back to sleep. The night before the competition, Ruo Bai stopped Bai Cao from over-training, explaining that excessive practice would lead to muscle fatigue and be counterproductive. When Bai Cao asked if he thought she would lose, she quickly asserted, "No way!
I will not lose. I will try my best." Seeing her dedication, the other disciples rallied around her, taking over her chores, wishing her success, and encouraging her to fight offensively, not just defensively, like when she defeated Kim Min-Joo. They expressed their belief that she could get into the training camp and promised a celebratory dinner if she succeeded.
On the day of the competition, as Bai Cao was announced, her white belt, signifying her lack of prior competitive experience, drew murmurs from the crowd. Fang Tinghao and Shen Ning arrived to observe the matches. As Bai Cao stepped into the ring to face Mei Ling, she adopted a purely defensive posture, continuously retreating from Mei Ling's attacks. The referee issued a warning, prompting Hu Yifeng to shout from the sidelines, urging Bai Cao not to be passive.
Episode 9 Recap
Qi Bai Cao faces Mei Ling in a Yuan Wu Dao competition. From the outset, Mei Ling aggressively attacks, leaving Bai Cao on the defensive and unable to land a single blow. Mei Ling quickly scores five points, while Bai Cao earns none. The audience notes that Song Bai DoJo's representative is an inexperienced white belt, a stark contrast to Mei Ling's black belt, and spectators express doubt about Song Bai's chances.
During the break, Ruo Bai tells Bai Cao that if she constantly replays moves in her mind, she is not suited for competitive martial arts; instead, she must rely on her gut instinct and body. In the second round, following Ruo Bai's advice, Bai Cao keenly observes Mei Ling's movements for weaknesses. She finds her opening, executing a swift left roundhouse kick and following up with a butterfly kick, quickly gaining points.
This unexpected turn invigorates her peers from Song Bai DoJo, who erupt in cheers and renewed confidence. Bai Cao continues her offensive, adapting to Mei Ling's moves. As the match nears its conclusion, Mei Ling, desperate to score, attempts a final, decisive kick. However, Bai Cao anticipates her opponent's action, steps forward, and kicks Mei Ling down, securing her victory. Mei Ling is stunned by her loss to Bai Cao.
After the match, Fang Tinghao, preparing to leave, is confronted by a bald man, an old rival he had previously defeated, who demands a rematch, claiming he shaved his head after their last fight. To escape, Fang Tinghao ducks into the women's changing room, where he encounters Bai Cao.
He spins a tale, claiming he is an "enemy" of the famous Fang Tinghao, and the bald man is an overly zealous fan of the famous Fang Tinghao who shaved his head for him and now wishes to "teach him a lesson." Misunderstanding the situation and believing Fang Tinghao is being bullied, Bai Cao steps out to intervene.
She confronts the bald man, asserting that Yuan Wu Dao is not for such petty disputes and that a champion should act with honor, before quickly dealing with him. Fang Tinghao thanks Bai Cao and suggests treating her to a meal, playfully implying a past date. Bai Cao then realizes his true identity as the famous Fang Tinghao.
Feeling deceived and used, she angrily stomps on his foot and walks away, leaving Fang Tinghao's excited fans, who had gathered for photos, bewildered. The next morning, Shen Xiaoying catches Yu Chuyuan as he leaves his home. She dramatically exaggerates Bai Cao's injuries from the match, claiming her hand is severely swollen and that Bai Cao, despite her pain, insists on helping at Xiaoying's mother's noodle shop. Concerned, Yu Chuyuan agrees to go to the shop.
At the noodle shop, Bai Cao is in the kitchen, diligently kneading dough with her injured hand. Yu Chuyuan quietly arrives, congratulates Bai Cao on her victory, and then gently takes over the dough-kneading, offering his help. He assures her not to hide from him or avoid him due to past misunderstandings.
This scene is witnessed by Fang Tinghao from outside the kitchen, who leaves the noodle shop feeling dejected and later seeks out female companions to drink away his sorrows. Later, Fang Tinghao appears at the Song Bai DoJo training ground with a band, serenading the female disciples with a guitar performance. After his song, he presents Bai Cao with a bouquet of flowers, much to her surprise. Bai Cao believes it's a prank.
Ruo Bai, seeing this as a distraction, intervenes and orders everyone back to their training. Undeterred, Fang Tinghao then uses a drone to scatter flowers over the dojo, creating a romantic scene that elicits squeals from the girls. With Ruo Bai's permission, Bai Cao confronts Fang Tinghao and asks him to leave. Under Yu Chuyuan's watchful gaze, Fang Tinghao boldly asks Bai Cao to date him. Startled, Bai Cao turns and runs away. Yu Chuyuan observes Fang Tinghao's persistent actions with a sense of perplexity, wondering why someone of Fang Tinghao's prominent background would pursue a girl like Bai Cao.
Episode 10 Recap
The episode opens with Xiao Ying excitedly greeting Bai Cao and asking about her "date" with Senior Yu Chuyuan. Bai Cao denies it was a date, but Xiao Ying insists she is blushing and recounts how worried Senior Yu Chuyuan was when he learned of Bai Cao's injury. Xiao Ying contrasts this with her own unrequited feelings for Senior Ruo Bai, lamenting that Ruo Bai's heart is "only filled with Yuan Wu Dao."
She then asks Bai Cao to help her arrange a date with Ruo Bai, before eagerly questioning Bai Cao for intimate details about her time with Yu Chuyuan, asking if he held her hands or kissed her. Bai Cao firmly denies any kiss. Fang Tinghao, a renowned young Yuan Wu Dao world champion, is later seen with his friends, who praise his unbeatable status and talent, even above Yu Chuyuan.
Fang Tinghao, however, appears somewhat bothered, asserting that whatever Yu Chuyuan possesses, he also has. Following this, Fang Tinghao makes a grand gesture of affection towards Bai Cao. He arranges a public confession with flowers and a song. Senior Ruo Bai interrupts, stating that the martial arts hall is not the place for such activities.
Undeterred, Fang Tinghao continues his elaborate pursuit, culminating in a fireworks display that spells out "Bai Cao, you are like the most beautiful and brightest firework." While Bai Cao's peers are impressed, Bai Cao dismisses it as a prank. She confronts Fang Tinghao, telling him her world is simple, focused solely on Yuan Wu Dao, and asks him to stop bothering her.
Fang Tinghao, however, insists he is "very serious" about pursuing her, arguing that while Yuan Wu Dao is her passion, love is his, and they would make a perfect match. Yu Chuyuan also observes this interaction. Later, Bai Cao confides in Yu Chuyuan about Fang Tinghao, expressing her confusion that someone of his standing as a world champion and Yuan Wu Dao expert acts so unreliably, and that she doesn't understand why he would fancy an ordinary girl like her.
Yu Chuyuan clarifies that "Ting Hao is blessed with natural talent and instinct unlike others." He describes Fang Tinghao as appearing sarcastic, yet at his core, he's "like a big kid; full of innocence and passion," and that this quality helped him elevate his art. Yu Chuyuan believes Bai Cao would see Fang Tinghao as "a very good person once you get to know him," to which Bai Cao firmly replies she has no desire to.
She then reveals that she already has someone she likes. The An Yang Yuan Wu Dao Competition is underway. Quan Sheng DoJo faces a series of defeats, leaving its members dispirited. One disciple complains, stating they have been losing consistently and will "break a record in the history of Hall Challenge Matches" if they lose again, being "remembered as losers for another hundreds of years."
Hall Master Zheng attempts to rally them, insisting they can still win if they put in the effort and secure at least one match to move up. However, the disciple expresses doubt given their opponent's strength. Qu Guangya, determined, declares, "I will fight till the end today. I will win at least one match for Quan Sheng Hall." She then steps up to represent Quan Sheng DoJo against Chen Er Ying.
Chen Er Ying, known for her powerful kicks, immediately gains the upper hand, overwhelming Qu Guangya. Spectators comment that Chen Er Ying is "really strong" and that Guangya "will not win this." Observing Guangya's struggles, a female disciple tells Hall Master Zheng, "Teacher, you shouldn't have sent her," to which he regretfully agrees, admitting, "I regret to send her now," as Guangya's defeat appears increasingly inevitable.
Just as Guangya is on the verge of giving up, Bai Cao appears and begins to cheer for her, shouting "Guang Ya!" and urging her to "win!" This draws criticism from Quan Sheng DoJo members who call Bai Cao a "traitor" and accuse her of flaunting her own recent victory. Bai Cao confronts them, asking, "Why won't you guys cheer? She's fighting so hard to win this for Quan Sheng."
Despite their arguments that Guangya is unskilled and should quit to avoid embarrassment, Bai Cao defiantly declares, "I don't care what you say. Yet I will cheer 'Go'. No matter what you do." Soon, Xiao Ying and other Song Bai DoJo peers join Bai Cao, collectively cheering, "Go Guang Ya! Guang Ya win!" Xiao Ying tells Guangya, "You have us. Leave the cheering to us." Their renewed shouts act as a powerful boost, invigorating Guangya.
She thinks to herself, "They're cheering me on. Guang Ya, you can do it." Fang Tinghao, observing Bai Cao's fervent support, hears his friend comment on Bai Cao's loyalty, saying, "She always tries hard. But I didn't imagine she was so loyal. Now I know why you like her." Fang Tinghao then muses, "But I think she is difficult to win over. She cares this much for her teacher. . ."
(referring to Bai Cao's loyalty to Guangya's father, her former teacher, Hall Master Zheng). Empowered by the cheers, Guangya, who was feeling "out of energy," fights back. As Chen Er Ying lunges for a final attack, Bai Cao's timely shouts of encouragement and rhythmic calls help guide Guangya to regain focus. Seizing a critical opportunity, Guangya executes a high kick to Chen Er Ying's chin, securing a triumphant win.
After the match, Guangya approaches Bai Cao to express her gratitude, saying, "Thank you for cheering me on earlier." Bai Cao's friends affirm their unwavering support for her. Later, Bai Cao and Guangya share a private moment, with Bai Cao complimenting Guangya's performance and relaying personal advice from Guangya's master, demonstrating their reconciliation. As Bai Cao departs, Guangya softly offers a heartfelt, "But thank you."
Soon after, Fang Tinghao intercepts Bai Cao, remarking on her "childish" joy and questioning her care for her master. He then deceitfully claims, "I know where your teacher is. Do you want me to take you there?" Bai Cao, eager to find her master, agrees and allows Fang Tinghao to blindfold her, guiding her with instructions like, "Walk softly. If you don't, you wouldn't see your teacher."
He leads her into a large hall, decorated with heart-shaped patterns on the floor and heartfelt words of love. Removing her blindfold, Fang Tinghao grandly asks, "What do you think? Do you like it?" Bai Cao quickly realizes she has been tricked and angrily demands, "What are you doing? Where's my teacher?" Fang Tinghao then audaciously proclaims himself as her new "teacher," boasting about his long history in Yuan Wu Dao and his numerous national and international championships.
He invites her to join Xian Wu Hall, promising to train her, help her compete overseas, and provide opportunities that Song Bai DoJo cannot. Bai Cao accuses him of joking, but he insists he is "very serious." When Bai Cao asks if he genuinely knows where her master is, Fang Tinghao vaguely promises to find better teachers for her and even her master, Xiao Nan, after she joins Xian Wu Hall.
Enraged by his deception and arrogance, Bai Cao yells, "That is enough!" and fiercely demands, "Fang Tinghao! What kind of person do you think I am?" Fang Tinghao, realizing his misstep, appeared remorseful and tried to reconcile, but Bai Cao, still fuming, refused and angrily stormed out. Later that night, with Song Bai DoJo's gates locked, Bai Cao found herself stranded outside.
Her peers inside were likely asleep, and she worried about being scolded by Senior Ruo Bai the next day. As she pondered how to enter, a crumpled paper ball was mysteriously thrown to her. It contained instructions on how to get into the DoJo, guiding her to the back door. However, upon arrival, she found the back door also tightly shut and no one there to open it. Another paper ball then appeared from the shadows.
Bai Cao picked it up, expecting explicit directions, but instead found only subtle, suggestive hints. With her innate cleverness, she understood the clues and successfully climbed over a wooden gate to enter the DoJo.
Episode 11 Recap
Fang Tinghao recommended Qi Bai Cao to Coach Shen Ning for the training camp. Shen Ning, however, expressed strong reservations upon seeing Bai Cao’s resume, noting her previous affiliation with Quan Sheng DoJo and her teacher, Qu Xiang Nan. Shen Ning stated that Qu Xiang Nan's name was "the shame of An Yang" and expressed disbelief that he was still taking disciples, believing he had been banned from Yuan Wu Dao.
She also thought Bai Cao was foolish for remaining loyal to him and suggested she leave as soon as possible. Earlier, Bai Cao had confronted Fang Tinghao, rejecting his attempts to persuade her to switch dojos. She firmly declared that Qu Xiang Nan was her only teacher, who had raised her since childhood, and she would remain loyal to him regardless of his reputation or martial arts skill.
Fang Tinghao had confessed his feelings for her during this conversation, but Bai Cao questioned his passion for Yuan Wu Dao, given his tendency to play jokes and pranks. Meanwhile, the disciples at Song Bai DoJo were filled with anxiety as they awaited the results of the competition draw. They worried about facing powerful teams like Xian Wu Hall or Jian Shi Hall, particularly Jian Shi Hall's formidable senior, Lin Feng, known as "Rubber Ball Phoenix."
Despite her heavy build, Lin Feng was renowned for her exceptional agility and incredible jumping power. When Ruo Bai returned with the draw results, confirming that Song Bai would indeed face Jian Shi Hall, a wave of dismay swept through the dojo. Ruo Bai decided against informing Bai Cao about Lin Feng being her opponent, feeling it would be useless and only increase her burden.
One evening, Hu Yifeng discovered Xiao Ying secretly observing Ruo Bai and Bai Cao's training session. Xiao Ying, driven by concern for her close friend's upcoming match against Lin Feng, confessed her worries and her desire to help. As Hu Yifeng startled her, they lost their footing and fell to the ground, experiencing a novel and unfamiliar feeling between them. Xiao Ying then enthusiastically dragged a weary Hu Yifeng to her room to create special cheerleading props for Bai Cao.
Hu Yifeng, exhausted and unenthusiastic, complained throughout the night, expressing his desire to sleep. The following day, Hu Yifeng appeared preoccupied and distracted during his match against Zheng Zhon of Tian Shi Hall. He ultimately lost by a single point, placing immense pressure on Bai Cao to win her upcoming match and secure Song Bai DoJo's spot in the finals.
Before Bai Cao's turn, Fang Tinghao approached her, offering a warm drink and words of encouragement, much to the other disciples' annoyance. As Lin Feng made her entrance, her commanding presence was evident, captivating the attention of the audience and even intimidating some of her opponents. Her unique fighting style, honed to leverage her natural physique, and her "Rubber Ball" nickname, reflecting her extraordinary jumping and bouncing ability, were well-known.
Bai Cao's match against Lin Feng commenced, but she was visibly overwhelmed by Lin Feng's powerful aura. Bai Cao froze, unable to launch any effective attacks, and was completely suppressed throughout the first round, which she quickly lost. During the break, Ruo Bai intervened by splashing hot water on Bai Cao’s face, a harsh but effective method to rouse her. He sternly warned her that such a mentality would lead her to quit Yuan Wu Dao.
He then calmly explained that no matter how intimidating an opponent seemed, their techniques were still fundamentally the same as any other Yuan Wu Dao move. Bai Cao, grasping his guidance, quickly regained her mental clarity and confidence. In the second round, Bai Cao managed to land a kick, scoring a point and eliciting cheers from her teammates.
However, Lin Feng swiftly demonstrated her unique defense, a "bounce off armor" ability that allowed her body to mitigate the force of incoming attacks and even redirect it back. This made it seemingly impossible for Bai Cao to score any further points, as her kicks appeared to empower Lin Feng rather than harm her. Before the start of the third round, Ruo Bai once again offered crucial guidance.
He instructed Bai Cao to kick him with all her might, demonstrating the principle of "borrowing strength to use strength." He also reminded her that Lin Feng, despite her formidable reputation, was not unbeatable and had been defeated before. Armed with this renewed understanding and strategy, Bai Cao stepped back onto the mat. Applying the "borrow strength to use strength" technique, Bai Cao effectively countered Lin Feng's unique defense, overcoming what had seemed like an impenetrable barrier.
Despite the significant score difference, Bai Cao skillfully defeated Lin Feng, securing Song Bai DoJo’s place in the finals. After the intense match, Lin Feng displayed remarkable sportsmanship, shaking Bai Cao’s hand and encouraging her to win the championship. To celebrate their victory, the Song Bai DoJo team gathered at a KTV.
During the festive celebration, Bai Cao and Ruo Bai were playfully coerced by their friends into sharing a single marshmallow, leading to an awkward moment where their faces accidentally bumped into each other. As the celebration concluded, Ruo Bai gallantly carried a drunken Bai Cao on his back, making their way back to Song Bai DoJo.
Episode 12 Recap
Fang Tingyi was looking forward to her birthday, and her brother, Fang Tinghao, planned to rent out an entire luxurious restaurant for the celebration. While discussing the arrangements with the restaurant manager, he unexpectedly saw Yu Chuyuan dining with Fang Tingyi. Fang Tingyi had invited Yu Chuyuan, as she always sought a gift from him around her birthday, having harbored deep affection for him for many years. Fang Tinghao confronted them, angered by Yu Chuyuan's presence.
He brought up the past, accusing Yu Chuyuan of being responsible for their mother's comatose state, which had lasted for four years since an incident. Yu Chuyuan, filled with guilt, allowed Fang Tinghao to verbally abuse him. Fang Tingyi defended Yu Chuyuan, stating that the accident during a competition was not his fault and that he had already left Yuan Wu Dao because of it.
She further accused Fang Tinghao of using their mother's illness as an excuse to avoid competing with Yu Chuyuan, because he knew he could never truly defeat him. Enraged, Fang Tinghao challenged Yu Chuyuan. Yu Chuyuan, hoping to ease Fang Tinghao's bitterness, offered himself up to be hit without retaliation. Seeing Yu Chuyuan being beaten, Fang Tingyi intervened to protect him, and in the scuffle, Fang Tinghao accidentally kicked her wrist. Despite her injury, she accompanied Yu Chuyuan home.
Fang Tinghao, still fuming, vowed that one day he would beat Yu Chuyuan fairly. Later, as Fang Tingyi applied medicine to Yu Chuyuan's injuries, she worried about his internal wounds, but he dismissed his own pain, focusing on her injured wrist and its potential impact on her future competitions.
Fang Tingyi confessed her long-standing love for him, recalling how he was the only one who truly cared for her when her family was preoccupied with her mother's illness, her father with work, and her grandfather with her practice, while her brother was preoccupied with competitions.
Yu Chuyuan gently tried to create distance, reminding her that she was young and had many options, and reiterated his promise to her mother to protect her, emphasizing that he gave her gifts as a brother. He suggested she go home before Fang Tinghao worried. However, Fang Tingyi believed Yu Chuyuan was being constrained by her brother's opposition and declared that she would wait for him until they could overcome all obstacles.
Meanwhile, at Song Bai DoJo, the team celebrated their advancement to the final four. During a game involving cotton candy, Ruo Bai and Bai Cao ended up being the ones to eat it, leading to lighthearted teasing and their faces flushing with embarrassment. Later, Ruo Bai found Bai Cao asleep despite the noise, musing that her sleeping skills surpassed her fighting abilities.
Bai Cao, in her sleep, murmured about her master and expressed a wish for him to attend her competition. At the An Yang sports arena, the Yuan Wu Dao semi-finals were about to begin. Ruo Bai, burdened by past memories, recalled his defeat at the hands of Fang Tinghao, who had kicked Song Bai DoJo's trophy in front of him. In the first round of the semi-finals, Hu Yifeng suffered a loss.
His eyes welled up with disappointment, and Shen Xiaoying offered him a towel, which Hu Yifeng held to his nose, savoring her scent. Elsewhere, Qu Xiangnan visited his late wife's grave, bringing her favorite treats and fruits. He informed her that he had found a flexible job as a delivery man, allowing him to visit more often.
He shared updates about Guang Ya and Bai Cao, telling her about their participation in competitions this year, with Guang Ya winning one match and Bai Cao winning several, including her recent victory against Lin Feng. He also mentioned that his wife's sister, Shen Ning, was now a national team coach and was recruiting for her training center at the An Yang competition. Suddenly, Shen Ning appeared.
She sternly told Qu Xiangnan he had no right to address her informally and demanded he stop visiting her sister's grave, claiming he only made her sister angrier. She blamed him for her sister's death, accusing him of using stimulants in a competition, which caused her sister great distress, leading to her fatal heart attack. When Qu Xiangnan mentioned Bai Cao, Shen Ning scornfully dismissed her as a "loser" just like him, unfit to achieve championship dreams.
She demanded he disappear from Yuan Wu Dao to free Guang Ya from his shadow. Back at the hospital, Fang Tingyi visited her comatose mother, sharing news of Yu Chuyuan's dedication to finding an overseas cure, promising he wouldn't return until he found a way for them to cure her together. Fang Tinghao arrived, expressing concern for her wrist injury and leaving medicine in her room.
He warned her that her upcoming opponent was Bai Cao, though Fang Tingyi dismissed Bai Cao as insignificant. Fang Tinghao also implied his own brief interest in Bai Cao, stating he was usually only 'passionate for the first 3 minutes.' Fang Tinghao reiterated his demand that she cease pursuing Yu Chuyuan and not see him. Fang Tingyi retaliated, telling him to stay out of her affairs if he wanted the same freedom.
Later, Ruo Bai concluded practice, simply telling Bai Cao to "prepare" and "try her best" for the upcoming match against Xian Wu Hall. Bai Cao was puzzled by his lack of strategic discussion, a stark contrast to his usual routine of analyzing opponents.
Her teammates expressed deep concern about facing the formidable Fang Tingyi, a national champion who had only lost to Korean Champion Li An Xiu, and Fang Tinghao, a world champion who had never lost, believing their chances were slim, like "hitting an egg against a really big rock." That night, Bai Cao was too nervous to sleep and went to practice alone, where Ruo Bai found her.
Bai Cao admitted her fear of facing Fang Tingyi again, recalling a humiliating past defeat where she was beaten badly and couldn't even see the kicks. Ruo Bai sternly told her that fear was useless and that her abilities were far below Fang Tingyi's, making a loss inevitable, adding that defeating Lin Feng didn't qualify her to compete with Tingyi. Bai Cao, however, insisted that even if defeat was certain and they would lose badly, they must still give their absolute best effort.
Episode 13 Recap
The An Yang Yuan Wu Dao competition commenced with its first round, featuring Qi Bai Cao against Fang Ting Yi. Their difference in experience was stark; Bai Cao was a newcomer to such a grand event, while Fang Ting Yi boasted a brilliant record of numerous victories. Before her match, Bai Cao visited Senior Yu Chuyuan, who inquired if she had rested well. Bai Cao admitted she had practiced late into the night in preparation for facing Senior Ting Yi.
Yu Chuyuan performed a "magic trick" for good luck, then playfully pretended to talk on a phone with a "powerful friend" who assured him Bai Cao would win and bring her good fortune. Inspired, Bai Cao thanked him. Yu Chuyuan then shared a personal anecdote about his first competition at age ten, where his mother's lucky charm led him to become a champion. Bai Cao, feeling newfound confidence, declared she could definitely win.
Yu Chuyuan then presented her with a beautiful strawberry hair clip, a gift for her achievement in beating Ling Yi and reaching the final four, confirming he had watched her matches. He helped her put it on, advising her not to worry as no one truly knows the outcome of a match. Bai Cao expressed her determination to do her utmost, acknowledging Fang Ting Yi's superior skill but hoping a win would allow her to see her old coach again.
The competition began with the men's semifinal. Song Bai's Yi Feng faced Xian Wu Hall's Sheng Bo, ultimately losing the match. Next was the highly anticipated women's group match between Fang Ting Yi and Qi Bai Cao. The announcer lauded Fang Ting Yi's legendary status in the world of Yuan Wu Dao. As the match began, Fang Ting Yi noticed the strawberry hair clip on Bai Cao's hair.
Upon learning that Senior Yu Chuyuan had given it to Bai Cao, Fang Ting Yi became enraged, claiming the clip was hers. The match commenced with an unusual intensity from Fang Ting Yi, who attacked with surprising harshness, abandoning her usual elegant style, leading onlookers to believe she aimed for a swift victory in the first round.
Bai Cao bravely endured Fang Ting Yi's relentless assault, taking many hits but refusing to give up, with Ruo Bai urging her to fight back and rip a hole in Fang Ting Yi's defense. As the referee counted her down, Bai Cao struggled to get back on her feet. Suddenly, Qu Xiangnan, who had been missing for days, appeared at the competition venue, along with Yu Chuyuan, drawing all eyes to Bai Cao.
Seeing her teacher renewed Bai Cao's resolve, and she declared she still had strength and had not given her everything. In the second round, Bai Cao unleashed a fierce, aggressive barrage of attacks, using her physical stamina to overwhelm Fang Ting Yi. Ruo Bai noted that while Bai Cao might lack skill or experience compared to Fang Ting Yi, her physical strength was a significant advantage, contrasting Fang Ting Yi as a "hothouse orchid" with Bai Cao, a resilient "weed."
Bai Cao managed to score a critical point, KOing Fang Ting Yi, an unexpected turn that earned her praise as a "dark horse." Fang Ting Hao, observing from the sidelines, mused that Fang Ting Yi had not encountered such an aggressive opponent in a long time and hoped this experience would make her take competitions more seriously.
Fang Ting Yi, visibly angered by being KOed, rose and declared she had only been testing the waters before, and would now fight seriously to traumatize Bai Cao. Fang Ting Hao warned her against acting in anger, reminding her of their mother, but Fang Ting Yi insisted she would deliver an elegant and controlled defeat, making Bai Cao realize her lack of talent.
True to her word, Fang Ting Yi shifted her strategy, skillfully anticipating Bai Cao's moves, effortlessly countering her attacks and aiming for a quick finish. Ruo Bai observed the stark difference between Fang Ting Yi's natural talent and Bai Cao's reliance on hard-earned skills. Bai Cao herself realized that Fang Ting Yi had easily seen through her developing advantage. Despite Bai Cao's resilience and her teacher's presence in the stands, Fang Ting Yi's renewed intensity proved too much.
Bai Cao was overwhelmed, unable to defend against the precise and powerful onslaught, and ultimately lost the match to Fang Ting Yi. Following Bai Cao's defeat, Ruo Bai took to the stage to face Fang Ting Hao. Despite two years of rigorous training with the championship in mind, Ruo Bai was also defeated by Fang Ting Hao.
Later, Bai Cao, having sustained injuries, awoke in a recovery area, where she was comforted by Qu Xiangnan, who expressed his pride in her performance. Yu Chuyuan informed Qu Xiangnan that Fang Ting Yi was recovering well. Qu Xiangnan, however, expressed reluctance to visit Fang Ting Yi, fearing his presence might cause her to feel conflicted about her place at Song Bai Hall, where she had found great opportunities and kind mentors.
Bai Cao, having overheard this, pleaded with her teacher not to leave. She apologized for not winning, but Qu Xiangnan reassured her, praising her for reaching the semifinals in her first official competition against a formidable opponent like Ting Yi, lasting until the very end, and even almost KOing Ting Yi. He reaffirmed his belief that she would one day become a champion. Bai Cao, with tears in her eyes, promised to train diligently and become a champion for him.
She begged him to stay, not just for her but also for Guang Ya, and Qu Xiangnan eventually agreed. The next morning, Bai Cao was seen practicing alone in the DoJo, tirelessly executing kicks. Soon, her fellow disciples arrived and, inspired by her persistence, joined her. Together, led by Bai Cao, they left the DoJo to find Ruo Bai to train, their collective dedication reigniting his fighting spirit.
Episode 14 Recap
After Song Bai DoJo's recent losses in competition, the atmosphere in the DoJo was somber, leaving everyone feeling defeated. Junior disciples were particularly heartbroken that Ruo Bai, their senior, had lost to Fang Tinghao. Qi Bai Cao, who was recovering from her own injuries, returned to the DoJo and found Ruo Bai silently practicing calligraphy, his hand wound untreated.
She tried to console him, urging him not to let one loss to Fang Tinghao consume him, especially when Song Bai DoJo needed his leadership for training. However, Ruo Bai, who had dedicated two years to intensive practice with the goal of restoring Song Bai DoJo's glory, expressed his despair, believing the gap between him and Fang Tinghao was simply too vast for him to overcome.
Bai Cao refused to accept this, reminding him of the tale of the tortoise and the hare, emphasizing that continuous effort could eventually lead to victory. She challenged him, stating that if someone as "dumb" as her could one day defeat Fang Tinghao's sister, Ting Yi, then he would surely regret giving up.
Inspired by Bai Cao’s unwavering belief, the Song Bai disciples rallied the next morning, beginning their training with renewed vigor and loudly chanting, "Ruo Bai Senior Brother, Song Bai needs you!" Ruo Bai observed them from a distance. Bai Cao reiterated her belief in persistent effort, and Ruo Bai, moved by their dedication, finally conceded and resumed his role as their leader.
Meanwhile, news of Shen Ning's new, state-of-the-art training center, backed by a significant investment, spread rapidly throughout the Yuan Wu Dao community. Many DoJos were eager to have their students selected for the prestigious training camp. The Master of Zheng DoJo even attempted to bribe Shen Ning but was rejected, leading him to instruct his students to try a strategy of "crying, begging, and begging on their knees" to appeal to Shen Ning's emotions.
Fang Tinghao, whose family's "Fang Group" was a major investor in the training center, visited Shen Ning, subtly trying to gain early access to the acceptance list. While Shen Ning maintained her impartiality, she did mention that Xian Wu DoJo would have the most accepted students. Fang Tinghao, however, expressed his primary interest in Song Bai DoJo's list. He later visited his mother, who appeared to be gravely ill, vowing to finally defeat Yu Chuyuan and prove his superiority.
Anxiously awaiting the selection results, the Song Bai disciples were surprised when Fang Tinghao arrived at their DoJo. He immediately confronted Yu Chuyuan, reminding him of a past promise to defeat him. Yu Chuyuan, who had long since retired from Yuan Wu Dao due to the injury of Fang Tinghao's mother, refused to engage, stating that their past competitions held no meaning for him anymore.
Fang Tinghao, however, insisted that his victories were hollow because Yu Chuyuan had stopped competing, and he yearned for a genuine fight to prove to his mother and everyone that Yu Chuyuan was no match for him. To force Yu Chuyuan's hand, Fang Tinghao revealed his leverage: the Fang Group's financial support for Shen Ning's training center meant he could influence the final acceptance of Song Bai DoJo's students.
Yu Chuyuan was dismayed that Fang Tinghao would jeopardize the students' futures for a personal grudge. Fang Tinghao, undeterred, set an ultimatum: Yu Chuyuan must meet him at their old training spot the next morning at 9 AM, or the Song Bai students would lose their spots. Ruo Bai vehemently rejected Fang Tinghao's threat, declaring that if the training center was subject to such arbitrary control, Song Bai DoJo students would rather not attend.
Despite the disciples pleading with Yu Chuyuan to accept the challenge for their sakes, Ruo Bai remained firm, stating that Yu Chuyuan had left Yuan Wu Dao and would not fight. Later, Yu Chuyuan confided in Bai Cao, explaining Fang Tinghao’s long-standing obsession to defeat him, an obsession exacerbated by his mother's injury. Yu Chuyuan admitted that while Fang Tinghao could be brash, he was also kind, and the incident had pushed him to extremes.
Yu Chuyuan decided he would go to the meeting place but not fight back, hoping that by allowing Fang Tinghao to "win" unchallenged, Fang Tinghao would finally realize the futility of his quest and find peace. Unwilling to see Yu Chuyuan endure such humiliation, Bai Cao arrived at Fang Tinghao’s dojo thirty minutes early, determined to fight him herself. She declared that if she won, he must leave Yu Chuyuan alone. Fang Tinghao, though surprised by her challenge, accepted.
He proposed a challenge of kicking a suspended jar. Fang Tinghao effortlessly shattered a jar with a powerful flying kick, which was recorded by his assistant. Bai Cao then attempted the same feat with a triple kick, but the jar remained intact. As Ruo Bai and Yu Chuyuan arrived, observing Bai Cao, the jar suddenly cracked and shattered. Fang Tinghao, surprised, called Bai Cao his "kryptonite" and, honoring their agreement, rescinded his challenge to Yu Chuyuan. When the final list for the Anyang training camp was released, only Ruo Bai from Song Bai DoJo was selected, while Bai Cao was not.
Episode 15 Recap
The list of selected students for the Anyang training camp was announced, and while Ruo Bai secured a spot, Qi Bai Cao's name was notably absent. Upon hearing the news, Qi Bai Cao initially feigned indifference, telling her friends she preferred to stay at Song Bai with everyone and that attending Coach Shen Ning's training center would leave her no personal time. Ruo Bai later visited Qi Bai Cao at the noodle shop, ordering her favorite red braised beef noodles.
He asked if she truly wished to join the training center. Qi Bai Cao admitted that she deeply yearned for the opportunity and dreamed of learning from Coach Shen Ning, but felt she wasn't good enough as she hadn't been chosen. Ruo Bai reassured her of her talent. He then went to see Coach Shen Ning, offering to give up his own spot for a student with more potential.
When Shen Ning questioned his decision, Ruo Bai showed her a video he recorded of Qi Bai Cao performing a difficult triple kick in mid-air during a prior challenge. This challenge had begun when Fang Tinghao sought to provoke Yu Chuyuan into a fight, demanding he join a match or force Song Bai to withdraw from the training camp. Qi Bai Cao, intervening on Yu Chuyuan's behalf, accepted the challenge, agreeing to break a vase with a single kick.
If she failed, Song Bai's fate in the training camp was on the line. After Fang Tinghao demonstrated his powerful kick, Qi Bai Cao attempted her own, displaying an impressive triple kick while airborne, though it did not shatter the vase. Fang Tinghao declared her loss. At that moment, Ruo Bai stepped in, broke the vase himself, and proclaimed that the next match should be with him, thus saving Qi Bai Cao and Song Bai from the penalty.
After the challenge, Qi Bai Cao reaffirmed her commitment to her dreams, inspired by Yu Chuyuan's earlier words, while Ruo Bai thanked her. Meanwhile, Yu Chuyuan confirmed his application to study a medical training program in America focusing on coma recovery, specifically aiming to help Madam Fang, Fang Tinghao and Fang Tingyi's mother. He met with Qi Bai Cao to say his goodbyes, giving her some homemade ointments and asking her to wait for his return in about a year.
Soon after, Fang Tingyi, having learned of Yu Chuyuan's plans, immediately appeared at his house with her passport, declaring her intention to follow him to Los Angeles. Despite Yu Chuyuan's concerns that she would abandon her martial arts career, Fang Tingyi was resolute, insisting she could train abroad and that her decision was worth it. She also emphasized that he was going to America for her mother.
Qi Bai Cao, harboring a deep affection for Yu Chuyuan, decided to buy an expensive pen as a farewell gift. However, when she reached his doorstep, she felt too embarrassed to hand it to him directly and left it there with a handwritten card that read, "Senior Chu Yuan, I will wait for you to come back." Fang Tingyi discovered the gift and card shortly after, destroying the card and asserting her will to make Qi Bai Cao wait forever.
Back home, Fang Tinghao confronted his sister, expressing his frustration that she was abandoning her competitive career to follow Yu Chuyuan, whom he still considered an enemy due to their mother's condition. Fang Tingyi remained defiant, refusing to back down from her decision. Later, Yu Chuyuan took an earlier flight. Unaware of this, Qi Bai Cao, on the day of Yu Chuyuan's departure, was busy helping Uncle Chen manage his book stall, planning to go to the airport afterward.
She received a phone call from Xiao Ying, who frantically informed her that Yu Chuyuan had already left for the airport. Qi Bai Cao immediately rushed to the airport on her bicycle, but arrived only to helplessly watch Yu Chuyuan walk towards his boarding gate, unable to say a final goodbye. As Yu Chuyuan departed, Fang Tingyi appeared at the airport, ready to board her own flight.
She approached a heartbroken Qi Bai Cao and cruelly claimed that she and Yu Chuyuan had long been in love, but kept it secret due to past grievances. She then returned the pen Qi Bai Cao had bought, falsely stating that Yu Chuyuan disliked it. Believing Fang Tingyi's lies and thinking Yu Chuyuan did not like her, Qi Bai Cao left the airport in deep sorrow, clutching the pen.
Episode 16 Recap
Before her departure for America, Fang Tingyi was confronted by her brother, Fang Tinghao, who questioned her pursuit of Yu Chu Yuan. Tingyi insisted that Chu Yuan reciprocated her feelings and was the love of her life, despite Fang Tinghao’s assertion that Chu Yuan only saw her as a sister and "doesn't like you." Undeterred, Tingyi declared that anyone who stood in her way would be her enemy.
Although Fang Tinghao expressed his ongoing concern, he eventually presented Tingyi with an American Express Black Card and keys to an LA apartment as early birthday gifts, explaining he wouldn't be able to celebrate with her. He promised to discuss her trip with their grandfather.
Meanwhile, Xiaoying urged Bai Cao via phone to hurry to the airport to see Senior Chu Yuan off, but Bai Cao reassured her there was ample time as she was helping to move books for Mr. Chen. Unbeknownst to Bai Cao, Tingyi contacted an "Uncle Liu" to change her flight to America, ensuring she would be on the same flight as Chu Yuan, and expressed her determination that Bai Cao would not get her way.
Ruo Bai also received a call, learning that Chu Yuan's flight had been rescheduled for 11 am, much earlier than planned. As Bai Cao continued to help Mr. Chen at the library, Xiaoying frantically called her, informing her of Chu Yuan's changed flight and his imminent departure. Bai Cao rushed to the airport, only to find that Chu Yuan's plane had already left. She tried to call him, but his number was unavailable.
Before leaving, Chu Yuan had asked Ruo Bai and Xiaoying to say goodbye to Bai Cao for him and to remind her to apply her medicine regularly. To Bai Cao's dismay, Tingyi appeared with Chu Yuan at the airport. Tingyi informed Bai Cao that Chu Yuan had invited her to America and returned a pen Bai Cao had intended as a gift, dismissively claiming Chu Yuan found it "poorly made" compared to the "gold pens" Tingyi bought him.
Tingyi further asserted that Chu Yuan only viewed Bai Cao as a promising Yuan Wu Dao student and that his promise to Tingyi's mother to care for Tingyi for life meant his future with Tingyi was already decided. She advised Bai Cao not to disturb Chu Yuan, as he would be busy studying and working to help Madam Fang. News spread that Bai Cao had been accepted into Coach Shen Ning's training center, exciting Xiaoying.
Ruo Bai clarified that there was also a special self-funded class, prompting Xiaoying to enthusiastically announce her intention to join so she could be with everyone. However, Bai Cao remained withdrawn, heartbroken by Tingyi's words and Chu Yuan's perceived rejection. Xiaoying comforted her, expressing outrage at Tingyi's cruel remarks about the gift pen. Ruo Bai later arranged for Xiu Qin to speak with Bai Cao.
Xiu Qin reminded Bai Cao of her own dream to train under Coach Shen, a dream tragically cut short by a car accident, and tearfully implored Bai Cao to dedicate herself wholeheartedly to training for both their sakes. Bai Cao promised to work hard, and Ruo Bai, observing from a distance, felt she didn't need to know the extent of his efforts.
The Fang Group's significant investment in the training camp was evident as students, including Bai Cao, Xiaoying, and Ruo Bai, gathered at the Anyang training camp. Coach Shen addressed the new A Team, outlining a rigorous three-year program with daily four-hour practices from Monday to Friday, doubling on weekends. She warned them of bi-weekly tests, with failure resulting in expulsion, and expressed her hope that they would all remain and achieve great improvement.
Two years later, Bai Cao, having diligently trained at the Anyang training camp, emerged victorious in a martial arts competition in Hangzhou. World Champion Fang Tinghao was invited to present her with the award. As he held the trophy, he playfully refused to release it until Bai Cao agreed to a condition. Not wanting to cause a scene, Bai Cao publicly accepted his demand. Fang Tinghao then relinquished the trophy, reminding her to prepare for his upcoming request.
Meanwhile, Coach Shen, impressed by Xiaoying's spirited defense of her aunt Guang Ya, invited Xiaoying to join the team, much to Xiaoying's delight. Ruo Bai later sought out Coach Shen, strongly advocating for Bai Cao to be considered for the World Youth Competition. He presented video evidence of Bai Cao's impressive triple kick, a move she had recently used to win, and also noted her victory against the national team, arguing that it proved her capabilities.
However, Shen Ning dismissed Bai Cao's chances, citing the formidable international competition, particularly the dominant Korean champion Li En Xiu. She maintained that Fang Tingyi, despite her occasional lack of dedication, remained the most suitable candidate, even if she might only reach the semifinals against Li En Xiu. Shen Ning refused to further explain her decision and urged Ruo Bai to return to his own practice. Bai Cao continued to push herself, even enduring stomach pain during practice.
Ruo Bai, noticing her discomfort, gently suggested she rest. Later, Bai Cao was seen studying late, hoping to win a scholarship to ease Ruo Bai's financial burden, as he had been lending her money and working extra jobs. Ruo Bai corrected her English homework, subtly hinting at the difficulty of securing a scholarship by correcting "Don't hold out hopes" to "There is no hope."
He then took over her laundry, instructing her not to touch cold water during her period, demonstrating his deep care. He assured her that he would cover her school fees and living expenses, emphasizing that her sole focus should be to qualify for the World Youth Competition this year. He told her, with conviction, that he wanted her to win. Later, Xiaoying arrived with homemade soup for Ruo Bai, who quickly fabricated an excuse about homework to avoid her.
In due course, Fang Tinghao came to collect on Bai Cao's promise. Noting her simple, almost childish attire, he playfully remarked about celebrating Children's Day with her. He then took her shopping for new clothes and subsequently to a salon, where a skilled stylist transformed her into an elegant figure, like a noble princess.
Episode 17 Recap
Director Wan, President of the Anyang Yuan Wu Dao Association, who is also the grandfather of Yuan Wu Dao expert Fang Tinghao, had a strained relationship with his grandson. When Director Wan wanted to arrange a marriage for Fang Tinghao, Fang Tinghao brought a newly dressed Qi Baicao to meet his grandfather, falsely claiming they were dating. Director Wan was immediately enraged by Fang Tinghao's actions.
Shen Ning quickly intervened as a mediator to prevent the grandfather and grandson from arguing publicly. On the drive home, Qi Baicao and Fang Tinghao both had their own thoughts. When Fang Tinghao dropped Qi Baicao off at her doorstep, he proposed that they officially start dating. He explained that since he had already announced their relationship to his grandfather, news would soon spread through reporters.
Instead of being passive when the news broke, it would be better to turn the fake relationship into a real one. Qi Baicao, dedicated to her martial arts training, had no interest in a romantic relationship with Fang Tinghao. She had previously promised Ruo Bai to train seriously and did not want to let him down. Seeing that Qi Baicao wanted to focus on martial arts, Fang Tinghao offered to personally instruct her.
He mentioned that he had defeated Ruo Bai in a Yuan Wu Dao competition two years ago, and promised that if Qi Baicao learned from him, her future achievements would certainly surpass Ruo Bai's. As they talked outside, they were completely unaware that Ruo Bai was nearby, witnessing Qi Baicao reject Fang Tinghao's proposal.
At the Anyang Training Hall, Fang Tinghao proposed a duel with Ruo Bai, using the excuse that he hadn't properly exercised his muscles for a long time. Ruo Bai had been defeated by Fang Tinghao two years prior, but his skills had improved significantly. With Shen Ning's permission, Ruo Bai and Fang Tinghao began their duel.
Fang Tinghao's martial arts skills were impressive, and his movement speed was incredibly fast, to the point where Ruo Bai took a kick before he could even clearly see how Fang Tinghao moved. However, after a few moves, Ruo Bai turned the tide and defeated Fang Tinghao. Shen Ning immediately declared Fang Tinghao defeated. Fang Tingyi returned to the Anyang Training Camp from overseas to train. She was preparing to represent the Chinese team in the World Youth Competition.
Shen Ning was very optimistic about Fang Tingyi's strength, noting that the reigning champion of this World Youth Competition was Li En Xiu, who had dominated the arena for several years. Shen Ning hoped that everyone would help Fang Tingyi quickly improve her martial arts skills. While everyone was focused on Fang Tingyi, Ruo Bai actively advocated for Qi Baicao to have a chance to participate in the Anyang City Youth Competition.
Upholding the principle of equal participation, Shen Ning agreed to allow Qi Baicao and Fang Tingyi to duel to prove Qi Baicao's strength. During their match, Fang Tingyi mocked Qi Baicao. After dozens of exchanges, Qi Baicao was regrettably defeated.
Episode 18 Recap
Shen Xiaoying and her friends gathered to discuss the recent practice match between Bai Cao and Fang Tingyi. While it appeared on the surface that Bai Cao had lost, with Fang Tingyi landing many kicks, a deeper analysis revealed a different story. Fang Tingyi's effective attack rate was not high, whereas every kick Bai Cao landed on Fang Tingyi was within the effective range.
This insight explained why Coach Shen Ning had subtly urged Fang Tingyi to intensify her training, hinting that Bai Cao was quickly catching up. Later, Fan Ting Hao approached Bai Cao and Ruo Bai, offering an apology for his past behavior and announcing his decision to begin isolated training. He explained that he needed to rediscover what he had lost in Yuan Wu Dao and asked Ruo Bai to look after Bai Cao during his absence.
Bai Cao, in an effort to get a "fresher hairstyle" for free at a senior center, ended up with a disastrous haircut. Her friends, including Shen Xiaoying and Qu Guangya, reacted with shock and amusement, with Shen Xiaoying even pretending not to know her. Coach Shen Ning also noticed the unusual haircut and questioned Bai Cao about it, who sheepishly admitted it was done by a grandpa at a free haircut event.
Meanwhile, Fang Tingyi made a grand return to the training facility, holding a press conference with Coach Shen Ning. She spoke about her two years of training in America and her return, subtly mentioning her "boyfriend" who had also been studying there and came back with her, confirming to the other students that she was referring to Yu Chuyuan. She stated her intention to prepare for the National Youth Competition under Coach Shen Ning's strict guidance.
During a subsequent training session, Coach Shen Ning announced new partnership assignments: Ruo Bai was to train with Fang Tingyi, and Bai Cao with Qu Guangya. Ruo Bai immediately protested, explaining he had been personally training Bai Cao and wished to continue. Bai Cao, however, expressed her willingness to train with Qu Guangya. Fang Tingyi then offered to partner with Qu Guangya to avoid disrupting the team's existing dynamic.
Coach Shen Ning overruled these suggestions, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming Yuan Wu Dao World Youth Championship. She explained that Ruo Bai, being the most skilled at guiding team members, was needed to help Fang Tingyi, who was considered the country's best hope against the Korean champion, Lee Eun Soo.
Despite Ruo Bai's continued concern for Bai Cao's own championship preparations, Coach Shen Ning ultimately decided to have Fang Tingyi practice with Bai Cao, challenging Fang Tingyi to "beat her." As the practice match between Bai Cao and Fang Tingyi began, Fang Tingyi couldn't resist mocking Bai Cao's hair, suggesting it was a new strategy to distract opponents. The match was intense, and Coach Shen Ning eventually called a stop to it.
Her comments were carefully phrased; she praised Bai Cao's significant improvement and then remarked to Fang Tingyi that she couldn't tell if Fang Tingyi's skills had become rusty or if she had simply underestimated Bai Cao. Later, Fang Tingyi approached Bai Cao alone, reiterating her dismissive comments about Bai Cao's hair and questioning her suitability for the National Youth Competition. Ruo Bai interjected, asserting that skill was all that mattered.
Fang Tingyi then formally challenged Bai Cao to a real match in one week, similar to the martial arts hall challenges two years prior, which would determine who represented their area. She added a pointed remark, hoping Bai Cao wouldn't waste energy on "unrealistic hopes," whether for the competition or for "certain people who don't belong to you." Bai Cao calmly accepted the challenge. Yu Chuyuan returned to Song Bai and met with his father.
His father expressed his long-held wish for Yu Chuyuan and Fang Tingyi to formalize their relationship, citing their families' close ties and a past incident involving Fang Tingyi's mother. Yu Chuyuan, however, clarified that he had always viewed Fang Tingyi as a younger sister and that her move abroad was solely for her studies. His father, understanding, advised Yu Chuyuan to make his feelings clear to Fang Tingyi to avoid causing her pain.
During their conversation, Fang Tingyi called Yu Chuyuan, announcing she was coming to see him at Song Bai. Soon after, Fang Tingyi found Bai Cao at Song Bai and returned a pen to her, claiming that Yu Chuyuan had found it "too cheap" compared to his usual overseas pens and asked her to give it back. Fang Tingyi further implied that Bai Cao, being "from another world," should reconsider her friendships.
Ruo Bai later took Bai Cao to a noodle shop, telling her they wouldn't be practicing that day. He specifically ordered her favorite beef noodles without tendon. A cheerful waitress, mistaking them for a couple, praised Ruo Bai's thoughtfulness and insisted on taking their photo as part of a promotion, despite Bai Cao's embarrassed protests.
While enjoying their meal, Ruo Bai and Bai Cao discussed Yuan Wu Dao, with Ruo Bai explaining that it was not just about speed but also about wisdom and strategy. On Bai Cao's birthday, Qu Xiangnan, now a delivery driver, sent a gift to the An Yang training hall, which his daughter Qu Guangya delivered to Bai Cao.
Additionally, both Ruo Bai and Yu Chuyuan secretly left gifts for Bai Cao: Ruo Bai placed a hair clip in her locker, and Yu Chuyuan, upon joining the An Yang training hall to treat students' injuries, put a training uniform there.
Episode 19 Recap
In the lounge, Fang Tingyi chatted cheerfully with her peers, deliberately mentioning Yu Chuyuan and falsely claiming to receive special care from him. She boasted that he treated her very well and prepared special birthday celebrations for her every year, leading her peers to comment on their strong relationship and even ask about marriage. Bai Cao, overhearing the conversation, felt a pang of sadness. Later, it was Bai Cao's birthday. Her peers surprised her with a cake, singing "Happy Birthday."
Bai Cao was deeply moved, admitting it was her first time celebrating a birthday in such a way. During the festivities, Qu Guangya, after some prodding from her peers, awkwardly presented a gift. She initially claimed it was "Longevity fruit" from Bai Cao's father, but when pressed, admitted she bought it herself – a box of Bai Cao's favorite expensive chocolates, knowing Bai Cao usually wouldn't buy them for herself.
Despite the thoughtful gesture, Guangya maintained her usual standoffish demeanor, insisting she still disliked Bai Cao, which her friends recognized as her "awkward" way of showing affection. After the celebration, Bai Cao discovered a custom-made Yuan Wu Dao uniform with her name embroidered on it in her wardrobe, accompanied by a birthday card from Yu Chuyuan. She was overjoyed by the expensive gift.
Beneath the uniform, she found a strawberry hairpin and mistakenly believed it was also a gift from Yu Chuyuan, recalling seeing a similar one at a night market. Unbeknownst to her, the hairpin was actually a thoughtful gift from Ruo Bai, who unfortunately received no credit for it. Her friend, Xiao Ying, noticing the uniform and hairpin, immediately suspected Yu Chuyuan still harbored feelings for Bai Cao, given the extravagance of the gifts.
Bai Cao tried to downplay it, insisting Yu Chuyuan was just a good person and was happily with Fang Tingyi. Encouraged by Xiao Ying, Bai Cao decided to visit Yu Chuyuan to express her gratitude and give him a steel pen she had previously intended for him. At Yu Chuyuan's residence, he welcomed Bai Cao inside, noting her shy hesitation. He complimented her new uniform and even offered to trim her bangs, easing her nerves.
Bai Cao thanked him for the uniform and, still believing it was from him, for the strawberry hairpin. Their conversation soon turned to past misunderstandings. Bai Cao explained her initial shyness stemmed from believing he had forgotten her and didn't want to see her, a misconception created by Fang Tingyi.
She recounted how Fang Tingyi had claimed Yu Chuyuan didn't want to be disturbed when he left and had even returned the steel pen Bai Cao had tried to give him, asserting he would never use such a "bad pen." Yu Chuyuan, realizing the depth of Fang Tingyi's deception, took the pen back from Bai Cao, his anger evident.
He assured Bai Cao that her thoughtful gesture was what truly mattered and promised to use the pen for his medical records and training notes. Feeling their past miscommunications resolved, Bai Cao gratefully departed, again thanking him for the uniform. The next day, Fang Tingyi approached Yu Chuyuan at the training center, noticing the steel pen he was using. She boldly claimed he had told her to return it to Bai Cao years ago.
When reprimanded by Yu Chuyuan, she feigned ignorance, claiming she had forgotten about returning the pen years ago. Yu Chuyuan, angered by her continued fabrication, sternly reprimanded her, unequivocally stating that he had always only considered her as a younger sister. During training, Bai Cao, wearing her new uniform, attracted the envy of her companions but was noticeably cautious, afraid of damaging the expensive gift.
Ruo Bai observed her hesitation and sternly told her to focus on her training and ordered her to change back into her old uniform. Later, Shen Xiaoying spoke up for Bai Cao, explaining that her old uniform was too worn out to wear. Taking this to heart, Ruo Bai quietly took Bai Cao's old, worn-out uniform, which was too short and patched up.
To Hu Yifeng’s astonishment, Ruo Bai, a strong man usually known for his "iron fists," spent the night meticulously mending and lengthening the uniform by hand. The following morning, Bai Cao discovered her old uniform hanging outside, freshly cleaned and expertly repaired. Meanwhile, Fang Tingyi arranged a practice match against Bai Cao. She deliberately invited reporters to the event, ensuring a large audience and hoping to publicly demonstrate Bai Cao's inferiority to her.
The reporters, well aware of Fang Tingyi's reputation, largely considered Bai Cao to have little chance of winning. When the match commenced at the Anyang training center, Bai Cao was visibly affected by the numerous flashing camera lights from the reporters, causing her to lose the first round to Fang Tingyi.
Episode 20 Recap
Fang Tingyi passionately declared her long-standing affection for Chu Yuan, but he returned a pen she had given him, choosing to use one from Bai Cao instead. Fang Tingyi grew increasingly agitated, expressing her deep dislike for Bai Cao and questioning why Chu Yuan always defended her. Chu Yuan gently explained that he only saw Fang Tingyi as a sister and urged her to stop acting in ways that could harm others.
Fang Tingyi refused to accept his words, convinced that Bai Cao's presence had changed everything between them. She left, shouting for him to go away. Later, Bai Cao was seen trying to fix a broken water cooler. Despite Shen Xiaoying and others urging her to leave it and join practice, Bai Cao insisted on cleaning up the mess. She arrived late to practice, prompting Ruo Bai to assign her a 1000-meter run as punishment.
During the session, some students admired Bai Cao's new uniform. Ruo Bai, however, noticed Bai Cao's hesitation while wearing it and ordered her to change back into her old, ill-fitting uniform, despite Shen Xiaoying’s protest that it was too old and short. Ruo Bai then gave four other students a 10,000-meter running punishment for talking during practice. That night, Ruo Bai was seen meticulously mending Bai Cao's old uniform.
The next morning, Bai Cao thanked him for mending it, but he brushed off her gratitude, telling her to focus on practice. Fang Tingyi held a press conference, where reporters praised her skill. She announced an upcoming match against Bai Cao, stating that Coach Shen hoped Bai Cao would gain higher-level experience before the national competition. Fang Tingyi, seemingly humble, claimed she would be careful not to "destroy Bai Cao's confidence."
However, Fang Tinghao, her brother, quickly ended the interview, pulling Fang Tingyi aside. He chastised her for underestimating Bai Cao and for neglecting her training for two years, instead focusing on Yu Chu Yuan and commercials. Fang Tingyi fiercely retorted, accusing Fang Tinghao of taking out his anger over his own loss to Ruo Bai on her.
She vehemently reaffirmed her belief in her own superiority, vowing to defeat Bai Cao repeatedly and to push her down "into the dirt again and again." Before the match, Shen Xiaoying encouraged Bai Cao to eat heartily for energy, but Ruo Bai intervened, suggesting Bai Cao wasn't in a weight competition. Shen Xiaoying then gave Bai Cao a handmade "Certain Victory" charm, expressing her belief in Bai Cao’s ability to win, inspired by Ruo Bai’s recent victory over Fang Tinghao.
At the training center, numerous reporters and flashing cameras were present for Fang Tingyi and Bai Cao’s match. Fang Tingyi confidently told reporters she was ready. During the first round, Fang Tingyi offered to ask the reporters to stop taking photos if the flashes were disturbing Bai Cao, claiming she herself was used to the spotlight but acknowledged Bai Cao might not be. The reporters dismissed this, stating that real competitions involved far more distractions.
Fang Tingyi won the first round, leading 2:0. Shen Xiaoying blamed the reporters' distractions for Bai Cao's lost points, and Bai Cao admitted she wasn't accustomed to the intense media presence. Ruo Bai warned Bai Cao that Fang Tingyi might attack fiercely or try to provoke her in the second round, and advised her not to let external factors affect her rhythm. He also checked Bai Cao’s hand, offering her medicine for a minor injury.
The second round began with Fang Tingyi launching a fierce offensive. However, Bai Cao demonstrated significant improvement, seemingly able to anticipate Fang Tingyi's moves, thus preventing Fang Tingyi from scoring any new points. Fang Tinghao observed Fang Tingyi's uncharacteristic hesitation, realizing that Bai Cao's newfound skill had shocked her. Fang Tingyi, trying to provoke Bai Cao, called her a "scaredy cat" and challenged her to attack. Bai Cao calmly responded that she had her own strategy.
The second round ended with the score remaining 2:0 in Fang Tingyi's favor. Between rounds, reporters questioned Fang Tingyi about her stagnant score, but she maintained that only the final victory mattered. She promised a more exciting third round. Spectators discussed Bai Cao's remarkable progress, with some arguing she was now on par with Fang Tingyi, while others emphasized Fang Tingyi's superior experience and standing. The issue of Bai Cao being denied opportunities to compete was also raised.
Ruo Bai reminded Bai Cao that if she only defended, the best she could achieve was a draw, implying she needed to attack in the final round. He then subtly told her to "use it now." In the climactic third round, Fang Tingyi observed Bai Cao, confident that she would soon make a move, which would allow Fang Tingyi to land her special "double chop kick." However, Bai Cao surprised everyone by unleashing her powerful "Whirlwind Three-Kick Combo."
Fang Tingyi was caught off guard, falling to the ground and unable to get up for a while, and the score was tied. Seeing this, Shen Ning immediately intervened, declared the match a draw, and dismissed the bewildered reporters. Some trainees were indignant, believing Shen Ning was biased towards Fang Tingyi, and felt Bai Cao would have won if the match continued. After the match, the attendees were abuzz with talk of Bai Cao's "Whirlwind Three-Kick Combo."
Fang Tingyi, though defeated, still arrogantly mocked Bai Cao for winning by unorthodox means and declared a final showdown with Bai Cao in a month, the outcome of which remained uncertain. Separately, Fang Tinghao accepted interviews from reporters, announcing that he had received a training invitation from Changhai DoJo in Korea, offering all trainees the opportunity for advanced training to prepare for the City Youth Competition.
Rookies, led by Shen Xiaoying, cheered, but Shen Ning quickly reminded everyone to maintain their academic performance, warning that failure to do so would result in losing the chance to train abroad. Ruo Bai voiced his discontent over Shen Ning's biased decision to end the match prematurely, feeling it was unfair to Bai Cao.
Although Bai Cao had once again made a surprising impact in the match, Shen Ning remained unconvinced, placing her hopes instead on the ultimate showdown a month later, unsure if Bai Cao could truly defeat Fang Tingyi then. Meanwhile, Shen Xiaoying later faced criticism from her mother at home for neglecting her studies for martial arts, to which she cheekily replied that good looks were enough to get by.
Fang Tingyi’s grandfather, Wan DoJo Master, was furious about her neglecting training for Yu Chu Yuan over the past two years. He scolded her severely and confined her to the Xian Wu DoJo for a month of intensive, closed-door training. When the television replayed parts of the day's event, Shen Xiaoying was disappointed to find only clips of Fang Tingyi's training, with no footage of Bai Cao or their actual match.
Ruo Bai explained to Bai Cao that despite her impactful performance, Fang Tingyi's position in the martial arts world remained unshaken, and the media's selective broadcast was a deliberate effort to protect Fang Tingyi's reputation. He emphasized that Bai Cao could only truly surpass her through continuous, hard work.
Episode 21 Recap
An internal competition at the dojo takes place, during which Bai Cao demonstrates her newly developed "Whirlwind Triple Kick." The match against Fang Ting Yi is abruptly halted by Coach Shen, resulting in a 2-2 tie despite time remaining. Many spectators question the fairness of this early halt, feeling that time was still remaining for Bai Cao to win.
Fang Ting Yi later taunts Bai Cao, suggesting her "secret weapon" was merely a trick and that she only scored points through "wicked ways." Bai Cao's friends defend her strategy. Coach Shen then announces a rematch between Fang Ting Yi and Bai Cao in a month, with the winner earning the spot to represent their school in the prestigious Yuan Wu Dao International City Youth Competition, a significant event for aspiring martial arts masters.
Fang Tinghao, whose Fangs Group is sponsoring an upcoming international training camp at Chang Hai Martial Arts Hall in Korea, extends an invitation for all students to attend, with the condition that they must pass all their academic subjects. Ruo Bai confronts Coach Shen, accusing her of bias towards Ting Yi due to her family connection. Coach Shen acknowledges her care for Ting Yi but maintains that Ting Yi's performance justifies it.
Ruo Bai argues that this approach might unfairly deny other students, like Bai Cao, a chance. Coach Shen then states that Bai Cao must earn the "best camp member" title at the Korean training camp to qualify for the final match against Ting Yi. Ruo Bai, confident in Bai Cao's abilities, accepts this challenge and urges Coach Shen to honor her promise. As final exams approach, the students at Song Bai DoJo are busy studying.
Shen Xiaoying, particularly worried about her Advanced Math exam and the possibility of missing the Korean training camp, asks Hu Yifeng to find a "handsome teacher" to tutor her. Hu Yifeng, initially believing she meant him, is disappointed when she clarifies she wants Ruo Bai. Despite his disappointment, having made a promise, Hu Yifeng agrees to help. To persuade Ruo Bai, Hu Yifeng fabricates a story, telling Ruo Bai that Bai Cao needs math tutoring.
Knowing Ruo Bai's concern for Bai Cao, Ruo Bai readily agrees to help. That evening, Shen Xiaoying eagerly awaits Ruo Bai, having dressed up for the occasion. However, Hu Yifeng arrives instead, claiming Ruo Bai is "too busy." Shen Xiaoying is greatly disappointed. Bai Cao, noticing Ruo Bai's continued absence from training, expresses her worry to Hu Yifeng, who provides vague answers about "chores" and, to deflect further questions, jokingly claims Ruo Bai has found a beautiful new girlfriend.
Bai Cao successfully passes her exam with a passing score but still cannot find Ruo Bai. She asks Coach Shen about his whereabouts, and Coach Shen informs her that Ruo Bai is on leave due to a family emergency and will not be attending the Korean training camp. Deeply concerned, Bai Cao turns to Yu Chuyuan.
Yu Chuyuan initially tries to reassure her, even arranging a phone call where Ruo Bai advises Bai Cao to focus on her studies and not worry about him. Seeing Bai Cao's persistent distress, Yu Chuyuan eventually leads her to the hospital. At the hospital, Ruo Bai is visibly upset with Yu Chuyuan for bringing Bai Cao. Bai Cao confronts Ruo Bai, expressing her anger and sadness that he concealed such a significant event from her.
She conveys her desire to be more than just a dojo member; she wants to be a close friend and family. It is revealed that Ruo Bai's father is hospitalized with an illness. Earlier, Coach Shen had advised Ruo Bai that, with his qualifications, he would be more valuable as a coach guiding new students than as a competitor. This counsel, combined with his family's crisis, led to his decision to withdraw from the training camp.
Upon learning of Ruo Bai's decision to cancel his trip to Korea, Bai Cao suspects Fang Tinghao of somehow interfering. She confronts Fang Tinghao at the dojo, where he is training. Fang Tinghao, maintaining his characteristic flamboyant demeanor, neither confirms nor denies his involvement. Bai Cao states her intention to stay in China with Ruo Bai regardless. Ultimately, Ruo Bai changes his mind and decides to join the group traveling to Korea for the martial arts exchange. The group subsequently arrives in Korea and heads towards the Chang Hai Martial Arts Hall.
Episode 22 Recap
When Qi Bai Cao expressed concern over Ruo Bai's absence from training and the upcoming Korea training camp, Yu Chuyuan offered to take her to him. They arrived at a hospital where Qi Bai Cao discovered Ruo Bai's father was gravely ill. Ruo Bai's mother introduced herself to Qi Bai Cao and thanked Yu Chuyuan for his crucial assistance when Ruo Bai's father was admitted.
Ruo Bai, however, was visibly upset that Yu Chuyuan had brought Qi Bai Cao, prompting his mother to scold him before Yu Chuyuan respectfully departed. Outside the hospital, Ruo Bai remained distant, but Qi Bai Cao tearfully confronted him. She expressed her deep disappointment, saying she always followed his instructions because she trusted he had her best interests at heart, seeing her as family rather than just a junior.
She was saddened that he wouldn't confide in her when he needed help the most, feeling excluded and unable to assist with chores like cleaning, cooking, or laundry. Ruo Bai insisted he didn't want to impact her studies and training, but promised to tell her if a similar situation arose in the future. Days later, Qi Bai Cao continued to visit the hospital, bringing food for Ruo Bai's father. Ruo Bai's mother gratefully acknowledged her and Yu Chuyuan's help.
She informed Qi Bai Cao that Ruo Bai's father was stable and would be discharged soon, but Ruo Bai would not be returning home with them as he had summer part-time jobs. Qi Bai Cao questioned why Ruo Bai, who loved Yuan Wu Dao, would then miss the Korea training camp.
Meanwhile, a doctor informed Ruo Bai that his father's condition might be a genetic disease, and his own health had changed, advising him to avoid intense sports and consider becoming a professional trainer. Yu Chuyuan later echoed this sentiment, suggesting Ruo Bai become a trainer, praising his method of coaching Qi Bai Cao. Ruo Bai, however, urged Qi Bai Cao to go to Korea and win the best athlete award.
When she threatened not to go if he didn't, she even offered to help him train for the City Youth Competition, but he remained firm that she must go. Back at Song Bai, Shen Xiaoying and other disciples speculated that Fang Ting Hao might have maliciously removed Ruo Bai's name from the Korea training camp list out of jealousy. Meanwhile, Fang Ting Hao rigorously trained, reflecting on what Yuan Wu Dao meant to him.
Qi Bai Cao approached him, concerned about Ruo Bai. Fang Ting Hao joked at first but then acknowledged Ruo Bai's father's illness and Ruo Bai's persistence. He then shockingly admitted that he was the one who erased Ruo Bai's name from the list. Qi Bai Cao, disbelieving his cruelty, declared that if Ruo Bai didn't go, she wouldn't either, and asked Fang Ting Hao to remove her name as well.
Subsequently, Yu Chuyuan confronted Ruo Bai, revealing that Qi Bai Cao had come to him due to Ruo Bai's situation. Yu Chuyuan admitted his envy but stressed that Qi Bai Cao, with her unwavering loyalty like she showed for Qu Xiang Nan, would not go to Korea if Ruo Bai didn't, urging him to reconsider.
During a meeting, Coach Shen announced the Korea trip arrangements and that flight tickets would be booked that afternoon, asking anyone with unexpected situations to inform her immediately. Qi Bai Cao then declared she couldn't go. Just as Coach Shen was about to question her, Ruo Bai dramatically entered and announced his decision to participate in the training camp. Coach Shen was relieved, assigning Yu Chuyuan as the guide and Ruo Bai as the team leader.
When she asked Qi Bai Cao again if she was still not going, Ruo Bai interjected, stating, "She can go." Before their departure, Shen Xiaoying meticulously packed an extensive wardrobe for Qi Bai Cao, insisting she represent China well. Fang Ting Hao bid farewell to Qi Bai Cao, giving her a new phone with international access, a power bank, and a mobile Wi-Fi device, telling her not to decline.
He confessed his feelings, stating he didn't expect her to reciprocate but asked her to take care of herself. He also declared his intention to rediscover his original dream in Yuan Wu Dao, the "Yuan Wu Dao's Fang Ting Hao," like Qi Bai Cao. Meanwhile, Li En Xiu mused on the value of people, hoping "you" wouldn't do meaningless things or hurt others because of her.
Kim Min Joo, during her training, was reminded that Yu Chuyuan valued hardworking individuals like Qi Bai Cao, which strengthened her determination to challenge Qi Bai Cao again. Upon arrival in Seoul, a Chang Hai disciple welcomed the Song Bai team. Shen Xiaoying complained about the long journey, while others marveled at the new surroundings. They were cautioned to respect the peaceful environment around the lake, as it housed the masters' residences.
Kim Min Joo, however, secretly wished to visit the masters' side to gain inspiration and defeat Qi Bai Cao. As the team moved toward their quarters, they were stopped by a young girl whom the Chang Hai disciple respectfully addressed as "Senior." The Song Bai disciples were surprised by her youth and rude demeanor. This "Senior" was Kim Min Joo, who immediately recognized Qi Bai Cao and angrily challenged her.
She brought up her past defeat by Qi Bai Cao, insulting Qu Xiang Nan and proclaiming her intent to "wash off the disgrace." Enraged, Qi Bai Cao prepared to fight back, but Min Sheng Hao, Kim Min Joo's senior, intervened, physically pulling her away. He apologized for Kim Min Joo's disrespectful behavior and tried to make her apologize, which she defiantly refused. Min Sheng Hao then forcibly took her away for punishment.
The Chang Hai guide then led the Song Bai team to their temporary rooms, informing Yu Chuyuan that Li En Xiu had personally arranged a separate, elegant room for him, sparking curiosity among the others.
Episode 23 Recap
Upon arriving at Changhai Training Camp, the trainees from An Yang learned about their room assignments. Many were surprised to discover that Senior Yu Chuyuan had been given a private room, which Li En Xiu, the acclaimed Taekwondo Girl Master, had personally arranged and even styled for him.
This sparked lively discussion among the trainees, who speculated about the nature of Yu Chuyuan and Li En Xiu's relationship, wondering if it formed a romantic triangle with Ting Yi, whom Senior Yu Chuyuan was currently dating. They discussed whether Li En Xiu, a "goddess standing on the top of an ice mountain," posed a strong rival to Ting Yi. Later, while settling in, Shen Xiaoying, still on edge from Jin Minzhu's earlier provocations, made a mistake.
When Ruo Bai entered, she mistook him for an intruder, believing it was Jin Minzhu, causing her to accidentally drench herself with a basin of water she had prepared. Embarrassed, she claimed to be cooling down from the heat. Ruo Bai, however, did not press the issue. He took Qi Baicao aside to speak with her.
Ruo Bai emphasized the significance of the training in Korea, reminding Qi Baicao that her goals should extend beyond just competing against Senior Ting Yi. He explained that the world of taekwondo was vast, filled with many talented masters, and achieving one goal did not signify reaching the top. He specifically highlighted Li En Xiu, describing her as a prodigy born into a Taekwondo family, whose ancestors were all predecessors of Korean Taekwondo.
She had dominated international competitions since she was a teenager, achieving her first top place trophy at 13, and was now known as the "Female Sage." Ruo Bai expressed his hope that Qi Baicao would be able to surpass her one day. Qi Baicao, inspired, declared her intention to first look up to Senior Ting Yi, then face the broader world of taekwondo and strive to climb to the very top.
Ruo Bai also inquired about the strawberry hairclip Qi Baicao constantly wore, to which she simply replied that she liked it, unaware that he was the one who had given it to her. The training camp officially commenced with a speech from Master Jin Yi Shan, the director of Changhai Dao館. He welcomed the numerous participants, many of whom were international award winners. He outlined the three-week program, consisting of morning lessons led by Changhai instructors and afternoon team competitions.
He announced a "Best Camper Award" for one male and one female, which included a prize of ten thousand American dollars. More importantly, the winners would receive a day of instruction from Master Yun Yue, a legendary and god-like figure in taekwondo, whose "Whirlwind Kick" manual Qi Baicao cherished. The prospect of training with such a master excited all the trainees. Later, Ruan Xiu Mei, Jin Minzhu's senior, visited the Songbai Dao館 trainees, bringing them local Korean delicacies.
During a subsequent training session involving impact tests with soft bags, Ruo Bai again reminded Qi Baicao of her purpose in Korea, urging her to work hard to become the best camper. During an outing, Qi Baicao and her friends went shopping. After enjoying some ginseng chicken soup, a lighthearted argument ensued among the friends. Suddenly, Qi Baicao spotted a thief and immediately gave chase without hesitation.
Her friends, including Shen Xiaoying, soon realized she was lost in an unfamiliar city where she didn't speak the language. Panicked, they began searching for her. Meanwhile, Qi Baicao, after successfully catching the thief, encountered a "half-Chinese" person who admired her bravery. Qi Baicao, still lost, realized she only had Fang Tinghao's number on her phone, feeling reluctant to call him. Unexpectedly, Fang Tinghao called her. He chided her for keeping her phone off and asked if she was lost.
Qi Baicao admitted her predicament, explaining she had chased a thief and now didn't know where she was. Fang Tinghao, after confirming she had caught the thief, used her phone's GPS to pinpoint her location and arranged for a company representative to pick her up. He also informed Shen Xiaoying of Qi Baicao's whereabouts. Shen Xiaoying was immensely relieved, shedding tears as she embraced Qi Baicao, who apologized for causing worry.
As they were driven back in a luxurious car provided by Fang Tinghao, Shen Xiaoying marveled at his wealth and questioned how he knew where Qi Baicao was. Fang Tinghao later called Qi Baicao again, asking if Jin Minzhu was bothering her. He explained Jin Minzhu's competitive nature stemmed from her father, Jin Yi Shan, losing to Qi Baicao's teacher, Qu Xiang Nan, twelve years ago.
He advised Qi Baicao to seek help from Senior Ming Shen Hao, whom Jin Minzhu feared, or to call him directly if she couldn't handle the situation. Back at the camp, rumors circulated among the trainees about Yu Chuyuan and Li En Xiu. One trainee recounted seeing a mysterious long-haired girl with a delicate figure visiting Yu Chuyuan's room late at night, engaging in an affectionate embrace, and calling him "Oppa."
The storyteller then revealed that Yu Chuyuan had called the girl "En Xiu," shocking everyone and fueling speculation about their close relationship. Despite some doubts and concerns about Li En Xiu's conduct, and questions about her "noble" image, they decided against telling Ting Yi to avoid causing unnecessary distress. On the first day of the Changhai challenge, Ruan Xiu Mei's team boldly challenged Changhai Dao館. Despite Ruan Xiu Mei's courage, her team suffered a significant defeat against Jin Minzhu's team.
Observers noted Jin Minzhu's swift and fierce leg techniques, as well as her arrogant and provocative behavior during the match, which drew criticism from some spectators but cheers from the Changhai students. Witnessing Ruan Xiu Mei being badly defeated fueled Qi Baicao's determination to overcome Jin Minzhu. Later, during her challenge with Li En Xiu, Qi Baicao unfortunately sustained a bone fracture. Ruo Bai personally took Baicao to the hospital.
Chuyuan, Xiaoying, and other trainees from An Yang came to visit her. Ruo Bai told them, "You guys go first; I'm enough here. You should rest early." Chuyuan, noticing Ruo Bai had a high fever, offered, "Let me take care of her; you still have a high fever." Ruo Bai insisted, "No, you guys leave." Chuyuan replied, "Okay." Under Ruo Bai's meticulous care, Baicao recovered quickly. One afternoon, Chuyuan came to Baicao's dorm and invited her for a walk.
As they walked in a garden, Chuyuan held Baicao's hand and said, "Although it's a bit hasty to say this now, I still want to tell you, I like you!" Baicao was startled, and Chuyuan pulled her into his arms.
Episode 24 Recap
Qi Bai Cao challenged Jin Yi Shan, declaring her intent to defeat him and compel him to apologize to her master. Jin Min Zhu, Jin Yi Shan’s daughter, immediately stepped forward to accept the challenge on her father's behalf. She declared that if Qi Bai Cao lost, she would have to apologize and quit Yuan Wu Dao. Qi Bai Cao countered that if Jin Min Zhu lost, Jin Yi Shan must apologize to her master and never disrespect him again.
The two were about to duel when an official intervened, stating that dueling for personal attacks and wagers went against the spirit of Yuan Wu Dao. Ruo Bai then suggested they instead place their wager on the afternoon team match between An Yang and Chang Hai. Jin Min Zhu accepted, reiterating her demand for Qi Bai Cao to give up Yuan Wu Dao if she lost, declaring Qi Bai Cao and her master unworthy.
Ruo Bai later confronted Qi Bai Cao about her willingness to give up so easily, telling her that if she could abandon Yuan Wu Dao at any time, she might as well stop now. Later, Yu Chuyuan announced the participants for the afternoon match, as Ruo Bai was momentarily preoccupied. The lineup included Shen Bo, Hu Yifeng, Ruo Bai for the men, and Lin Feng for the women.
He then announced that Qi Bai Cao would face Jin Min Zhu, which was Qi Bai Cao’s wish. Qu Guangya immediately objected, declaring, "Jin Min Zhu, I'll fight against her." She explained that confronting Jin Min Zhu was her family’s business and should be her responsibility. However, Qi Bai Cao, worried about Qu Guangya's insufficient skill, insisted on participating herself. Qu Guangya questioned Qi Bai Cao's right as merely a disciple to fight for her master.
Qu Guangya continued, criticizing Qi Bai Cao as a "self-serving idiot" for bringing up Qu Xiang Nan's name again, stating that if she hadn't intervened, people would have forgotten the name Qu Xiang Nan, but now everyone would remember.
Qu Guangya scoffed at Qi Bai Cao's unwavering belief that her master was flawless and had been set up, claiming to have heard Qu Xiang Nan admit to her mother on her deathbed that his actions were his own fault and the reason behind her mother's death. For years, Qi Bai Cao had believed her master, Qu Xiang Nan, was upright and framed for taking stimulants. The cruel truth made her unable to accept it.
Unable to make Qi Bai Cao believe her, Qu Guangya decided to prove it. She placed a phone call to Qu Xiang Nan, putting it on speakerphone for everyone to hear. She demanded that he personally tell Qi Bai Cao whether he used steroids in that match years ago, warning that otherwise, Qi Bai Cao would have to kneel before Coach Jin and quit Yuan Wu Dao. After a painful silence, Qu Xiang Nan tearfully confessed, "It's all my fault.
I'm a sinner. I've hurt everyone." Overwhelmed by the truth, Qi Bai Cao cried out and ran away to vent her grief and indignation. Ruo Bai observed her departure, remarking that she needed time to think thoroughly. Later, Hu Yifeng tried to comfort Qu Guangya, saying Qi Bai Cao was dedicated to her master and would be unable to bear such words.
Someone else interjected that while it would upset Qi Bai Cao, it was better than seeing her drop out of Yuan Wu Dao, revealing Qu Guangya's underlying motive: she had acted out of a desire to protect Qi Bai Cao from throwing away her career. Yu Chuyuan found Qi Bai Cao by the lake, bringing her food and encouraging her to eat for the match that afternoon.
Qi Bai Cao questioned whether she had been too hot-headed and caused more trouble by drawing attention to her master's name. During their conversation, Yu Chuyuan, who had initially believed Qi Bai Cao was in a relationship with Ruo Bai, spoke indirectly about someone he liked who seemed interested in another person. Qi Bai Cao then clarified that she and Ruo Bai were not a couple.
Yu Chuyuan, filled with surprise and joy, then implicitly confessed his feelings to Bai Cao, asking if she had someone she liked, to which she hesitantly agreed. He then revealed that he also liked someone who seemed interested in another, lamenting that he had left her for too long and it was now too late.
Although Bai Cao had a good impression of Yu Chuyuan and considered him her Prince Charming, she wasn't mentally prepared, and the sudden arrival of love left her flustered, as if in a dream. Meanwhile, at the martial arts hall, the competition was underway, with Chinese players facing Korean opponents one by one. Hu Yifeng noticed Ruo Bai had a high fever, reaching thirty-seven degrees, and urged him to rest.
However, Ruo Bai refused to leave, determined to stay and watch the matches. When Qi Bai Cao learned of Ruo Bai's illness, she immediately left the arena without a word and rushed back to their lodging to find medicine, prioritizing Ruo Bai's well-being over her own upcoming match.
As Jin Min Zhu warmed up for her turn, confidently stretching her legs with an expression that suggested she was confident in defeating Qi Bai Cao, concern mounted among the An Yang team about Qi Bai Cao's absence. Ruo Bai, despite his fever, was visibly worried that Qi Bai Cao would not make it back in time to compete, knowing Jin Min Zhu would make a big deal out of it if she missed her designated match time. Qi Bai Cao, upon arriving at her lodging, rushed into her room without rest to open a drawer and search for medicine.
Episode 25 Recap
Bai Cao found herself deeply troubled, questioning if her actions to defend her teacher, Qu Xiang Nan, were too impulsive and had inadvertently brought negative attention to his name. She wondered if she should have simply ignored the accusations. However, the memory of Jing Yi Shan's public accusation, claiming Qu Xiang Nan had used despicable methods to achieve undeserved honor, solidified her conviction.
She couldn't allow such insults to stand against her teacher, firmly believing he was not the person Jing Yi Shan described. Even if Qu Xiang Nan himself were to confess, she asserted, she would still believe in his integrity, having spent ten years by his side, knowing him better than anyone.
Chu Yuan, sensing her internal struggle, encouraged her to follow her heart, emphasizing that there was no absolute right or wrong, and doing what she believed was right was sufficient. He also gently reminded her to eat to conserve energy for her upcoming match. Later, Bai Cao expressed concern that Ruo Bai was angry with her, but Xiao Ying revealed that Ruo Bai had specifically picked out dishes for Bai Cao, suggesting his anger might not be what it seemed.
Later, Fang Ting Hao called Bai Cao, reminding her of her match against Kim Min Joo that afternoon. He warned her about Kim Min Joo's significant improvement and advised her not to mimic her movements, but rather stick to her own style to win. He then flirted, suggesting she become his girlfriend, but Bai Cao quickly rejected him. He brushed it off as a joke, then reminded her to buy him "bean paste."
After the call, Chu Yuan asked Bai Cao if Fang Ting Hao was still pursuing her. Although Bai Cao insisted Fang Ting Hao was just joking, Chu Yuan perceived his feelings for her were genuine. Chu Yuan then inquired if Bai Cao liked Ruo Bai. Bai Cao denied it, clarifying she didn't like Ruo Bai "in that way" and explained that an earlier sighting of them together was merely them helping Xiao Ying's mother.
Chu Yuan, unable to wait any longer, confessed his feelings for Bai Cao, promising to always support her regardless of her decision. During the ongoing team competition, one of Chang Hai's teammates, Han Dong Jian, impressed everyone with his strength and won his match. The team continued to compete, but Bai Cao was still missing for her turn.
Her teammates expressed anxiety, and some even offered to replace her, but Ruo Bai, though appearing unwell, dismissed them, stating they were not a match for Kim Min Joo. Bai Cao, having earlier noticed Ruo Bai looking ill with a fever of 38. 7 degrees Celsius (101. 66 Fahrenheit), had rushed off to get medicine for him, despite his protests. Upon her return, her teammates, including Xiao Ying, were relieved but also conveyed Ruo Bai's profound anger.
Bai Cao apologized, explaining she had forgotten to inform them of her errand. Ruo Bai, expressing disappointment that she would abandon such an important fight, angrily threw the medicine she brought to the floor. Chu Yuan interceded, suggesting Ruo Bai shouldn't be angry, explaining that Bai Cao's actions were out of care, as she views him with the same high regard as her teacher.
After Yi Feng won his match, evening the score to 2-2, Bai Cao was urged to go prepare for her own fight, with Xiao Ying promising to give the medicine to Ruo Bai. Bai Cao then stepped onto the mat to face Kim Min Joo. Kim Min Joo immediately taunted Bai Cao, questioning her resolve and reiterating that Bai Cao's loyalty to Qu Xiang Nan made her a curse to Yuan Wu Dao.
Bai Cao defiantly declared her intent to defeat Kim Min Joo to prevent further harm to her teacher's reputation. Spectators observed Bai Cao's initial hot-headed approach, attacking aggressively and seemingly wasting energy, which concerned them. They noted that while Bai Cao was landing kicks, she wasn't scoring, and her head-on style was disadvantageous against Kim Min Joo, who, like her father Jing Yi Shan, was known for exceptional endurance.
It was understood that both Bai Cao and Kim Min Joo were fighting with intense personal motivations—Bai Cao to defend her teacher's honor, and Kim Min Joo to avenge her father. As the match progressed into its final round, Bai Cao's movements began to slow, leading spectators to worry she was running out of strength, especially after her earlier dash to get medicine for Ruo Bai.
Kim Min Joo, sensing this, pressed her advantage, setting up her powerful double chop kick. But surprisingly, Bai Cao, having evidently studied Kim Min Joo's "eighteen kicks" under Ruo Bai's guidance, began to precisely dodge every incoming blow, staying perfectly within the lines. Ruo Bai, watching intently, recognized this as a result of his rigorous training in leg control.
He reflected that endurance was fundamental, and despite not being naturally talented, Bai Cao had forged immense strength through continuous effort, like spring grass pushing through rocks. Kim Min Joo, frustrated that Bai Cao had seen through her tactics and was even using her own double chop kick against her, grew increasingly desperate. Bai Cao, demonstrating her newfound tactical prowess and relentless spirit, ultimately defeated Kim Min Joo. The crowd erupted in cheers, celebrating Bai Cao's victory.
However, the win only tied the overall score at 2-2, making the next match the decisive one. It was announced that Ruo Bai would face Min Sheng Hao in the final round. Despite his visible illness, Ruo Bai insisted he was fine and prepared to fight. Bai Cao, still concerned, tried to stop him from going on the mat, but Ruo Bai remained resolute.
Immediately following her victory over Kim Min Joo, Bai Cao was recognized as the best camper, earning her the opportunity to compete against Ting Yi. When Ting Yi fell ill, the coach allowed Bai Cao to participate in her place, and Bai Cao went on to defeat En Xiu. However, before the awards ceremony for her latest triumph, Chu Yuan rushed to inform Bai Cao that Ruo Bai was critically ill.
Bai Cao immediately hurried to the hospital, where the doctor delivered the grim news, advising them to prepare for the worst. Upon hearing this, Bai Cao rushed into Ruo Bai's room, calling out "Senior Ruo Bai." To everyone's astonishment, Ruo Bai miraculously regained consciousness. Eventually, Ruo Bai fully recovered from his illness, and he and Bai Cao ultimately found happiness together.
Meanwhile, Qu Xiang Nan was deep in self-reproach, agonizing over the possibility that Bai Cao's dedication to defending his honor would lead her to abandon her Yuan Wu Dao career. He was haunted by the championship scandal, unsure how stimulants were found in his system, and believed no one but Bai Cao truly believed he was innocent.
He confessed to Fang Ting Hao that he wished Bai Cao wouldn't believe him, so she wouldn't be dragged down by his past and could pursue her own bright future. Fang Ting Hao arrived with the intention of taking Qu Xiang Nan to Korea to publicly reveal the truth. Qu Xiang Nan was hesitant, believing it was too late and no one would believe him.
He feared Bai Cao's unwavering loyalty would lead her to obsess over uncovering the truth, potentially ruining her life as his had been. Fang Ting Hao, however, argued that Bai Cao's absolute trust was precisely why Qu Xiang Nan "must" come forward and tell the truth, for her sake.
Episode 26 Recap
Despite a severe fever, Ruo Bai insisted on competing in the final round of the match. His opponent, Ming Sheng Hao, was known to be very strong, having taken the title in the last City Youth Competition when Senior Ting Hao did not compete. During the first round, the score remained tied. Bai Cao felt responsible for Ruo Bai's condition, believing her previous actions had caused this challenging situation.
As the second round began, Ming Sheng Hao noticed Ruo Bai's worsening health and suggested he withdraw, but Ruo Bai refused, asserting it was his own choice and he would defeat him. Ruo Bai eventually pulled ahead by three points. However, his condition deteriorated further, and he was hit repeatedly, which deeply concerned the onlookers.
Bai Cao, seeing his struggle, tried to intervene and stop the fight, but Ruo Bai firmly declared that as the team captain, he alone would make the decision. Chu Yuan then told Bai Cao that if she truly cared for Ruo Bai, she should support him to finish the match, otherwise, all his suffering would be in vain. Bai Cao, worried about Ruo Bai’s injuries, insisted she didn't want him to get hurt.
Chu Yuan reminded her of her bet with Jing Min Zhu, which could force her to quit Yuan Wu Dao and prevent Jing Yi Shan from apologizing to her teacher. Bai Cao responded that she would rather quit Yuan Wu Dao than see Ruo Bai injured. Chu Yuan then revealed that Ruo Bai felt the same way about her; he would rather suffer than let her give up Yuan Wu Dao.
Ultimately, Ruo Bai secured the victory, but immediately after, he collapsed into Bai Cao's arms. As Ruo Bai rested, Chu Yuan questioned why he pushed himself so hard, asking if it was because he liked Bai Cao. Ruo Bai retorted, asking if Chu Yuan would give up Bai Cao if he admitted his feelings. Ruo Bai then accused Chu Yuan of being as carefree as Bai Cao, easily giving up on things, including Yuan Wu Dao.
He clarified that his determination to fight Ming Sheng Hao was not born of affection, but rather a strong dislike for anyone, including Bai Cao, who could so readily abandon Yuan Wu Dao. Bai Cao brought ice to help reduce Ruo Bai's fever. Chu Yuan confirmed his temperature was still a high 39 degrees, even after taking medicine, making Bai Cao anxious about what exactly was afflicting him.
However, Ruo Bai abruptly told her to leave, not wanting to see her. Later, Xiao Ying, oblivious to the tension, burst into Ruo Bai’s room with a massager, a diffuser, and a pile of fruits, hoping to help. Her attempts at care were clumsy, causing more chaos than comfort. Yi Feng grew frustrated with her, telling her she was only making a mess. Ruo Bai also insisted she leave.
Still worried about Ruo Bai's persistent high fever, Yi Feng called Bai Cao to come and help care for him. Bai Cao learned Ruo Bai couldn't eat and wasn't sweating, so she carefully gave him salted water to drink. She stayed by his side throughout the night, and by morning, he finally began to sweat, showing signs of improvement. Even though he was recovering, Ruo Bai remained visibly angry.
He confronted Bai Cao, asking if she truly believed she could defeat Jing Min Zhu before their match. He pressed her on whether she would have knelt before Jing Yi Shan or quit Yuan Wu Dao if she had lost. Bai Cao vehemently stated she would never kneel or apologize to Jing Yi Shan, even if it meant her death.
When Ruo Bai reiterated her promise to quit Yuan Wu Dao, Bai Cao explained that her reason for training Yuan Wu Dao was to protect her teacher, and without that, her practice would be meaningless. Ruo Bai then challenged her, asking if protecting her teacher was her only motivation for training. He then told her to get out. While Ruo Bai was unwell, Chu Yuan took Bai Cao to a wishing pavilion.
He explained the legend of the place, where wishes made facing a specific tower were believed to come true. They both made wishes; Bai Cao wished for Ruo Bai’s happiness and safety, while Chu Yuan wished for Bai Cao’s happiness and safety. Meanwhile, Jing Min Zhu, still resentful about her loss, sought out Li En Xiu. Li En Xiu challenged Bai Cao to a practice match, specifically asking to see her legendary "Three-Kick Combo."
Episode 27 Recap
Li En Xiu requested to see Bai Cao's triple kick. Bai Cao satisfied Li En Xiu's curiosity by leaping up and performing her triple kick. To Bai Cao's surprise, Li En Xiu dodged the kick like a nimble rabbit, a situation Bai Cao had never encountered before. Onlookers, including Lin Feng and his group, were shocked by Li En Xiu's agile moves.
Under everyone's gaze, Li En Xiu friendly and politely introduced herself to Bai Cao, and the two shook hands and made peace. Fang Tinghao led Qu Xiangnan to the Chang Hai Martial Arts Hall in Korea. Qu Xiangnan publicly denied taking stimulants many years ago. Bai Cao and her team expressed their belief in him. To prove that Qu Xiangnan was framed back then, they later deliberated on countermeasures.
Fang Tinghao's first thought was to find the surveillance video from the competition that year. With his help, the disciples of Songbai dojo were able to obtain a large number of optical discs from relevant staff. However, everyone searched for a whole day but couldn't find any surveillance video related to Qu Xiangnan. Ruo Bai took a large number of optical discs back to his residence, staying up all night and continuously checking the video recordings.
The next morning, Hu Yifeng returned to the residence and objected to Ruo Bai continuing, as Ruo Bai had just recovered from a serious illness yet stayed up all night to watch the discs. Hu Yifeng took out a thermometer and asked Ruo Bai to measure his temperature. Ruo Bai casually took the thermometer and threw it aside, continuing to watch the video recordings on the computer. Hu Yifeng, unaware, took the thermometer back and saw it read zero degrees.
Thinking Ruo Bai had already measured his temperature, he exclaimed that Ruo Bai was like someone from the Ice Age. Ruo Bai eventually found surveillance footage showing a man with his face obscured by a hat infiltrating the rest room and secretly putting drugs into a mineral water bottle.
Fang Tinghao went to Chang Hai Martial Arts Hall to release the video, but because the suspect who put in the drugs had an obscured face, the disciples of Chang Hai Martial Arts Hall were unconvinced. Kim Min Joo suspected that Qu Xiangnan himself put the suspected stimulants into the water, and then cried "thief" to catch a thief. The video found by Ruo Bai indeed could not immediately clear Qu Xiangnan's suspicion.
Everyone had to find a way to find the suspect who put the drugs into the mineral water. Being in a foreign country, unfamiliar with the place, everyone held a photo of the suspect and inquired with passersby along the street. Ruo Bai walked out of a shop with a photo of the suspect, suddenly feeling dizzy and weak, his limbs went soft and he almost fell to the ground. Fortunately, he reached out and leaned on the shop's glass door, managing to steady himself.
Episode 28 Recap
Despite his declining health, Ruo Bai tirelessly searched for Piao Dong Yuan, the individual suspected of framing Qu Xiangnan. He showed Piao Dong Yuan's photograph to many people, eventually spotting him at an outdoor market stall. Upon hearing Qu Xiangnan's name, Piao Dong Yuan immediately fled, leading Ruo Bai on a desperate chase through the city streets and into a construction site.
Piao Dong Yuan tripped over a rope and began to fall from a height, but Ruo Bai, pushing past his own physical limitations, managed to grab the rope, saving Piao Dong Yuan from a potentially fatal fall while sustaining a cut to his own arm. With his arm injured, Ruo Bai knelt before Piao Dong Yuan, imploring him to reveal the truth about what happened twelve years ago.
He explained that Qu Xiangnan's career and family were shattered, leading to the death of his wife and estrangement from his daughter. He stressed that an injustice had destroyed Qu Xiangnan's life, and that Piao Dong Yuan had to confess. Piao Dong Yuan initially resisted, saying that the matter also affected his life and that he did not want his own daughter to be ashamed of her father.
However, Ruo Bai continued, speaking of a girl, Qu Xiangnan's disciple, who stood by him even when everyone else blamed him. Ruo Bai passionately declared that this girl, whom he would give his life for, firmly believed in Qu Xiangnan, a teacher and a father, and deserved justice. His heartfelt plea eventually moved Piao Dong Yuan. Fang Tinghao, observing from a distance, was deeply affected by Ruo Bai's profound feelings for Bai Cao.
Meanwhile, at the Chang Hai Martial Arts Hall, Bai Cao was preparing for her final match to become the Best Female Competitor against Kim Min Joo. Distracted and unfocused due to the ongoing search for Piao Dong Yuan, Bai Cao fell behind by four points after the second round. Sensing her distress, Wu Yi Feng received a call from Ruo Bai, who was still out searching. Wu Yi Feng quickly handed the phone to Bai Cao.
Over the phone, Ruo Bai sternly told Bai Cao that she absolutely "must win" this match. His words instantly rekindled Bai Cao's fighting spirit and focus. In the third round, Bai Cao launched a powerful counterattack. Earlier, Kim Min Joo had consulted Li En Xiu on how to counter Bai Cao's signature Whirlwind Triple Kick. Kim Min Joo planned to evade the first two kicks by stepping back and then moving to the side to create an opening.
Despite her preparation, Kim Min Joo was ultimately defeated by Bai Cao's powerful Whirlwind Triple Kick. Bai Cao was declared the Best Female Competitor. Although disappointed, Kim Min Joo acknowledged Bai Cao's strength and vowed to defeat her one day. Li En Xiu observed Bai Cao's rapid progress, noting her abilities were now comparable to, or only slightly less than, Fang Ting Yi's.
Despite Bai Cao's victory, Jin Yi Shan still refused to acknowledge the validity of her claims regarding Qu Xiangnan's innocence, stating that without concrete proof, her earlier assertions were akin to spreading rumors. He reiterated his demand for Bai Cao and her companions to leave the Chang Hai DoJo unless such proof was presented. Just as they were about to be dismissed, Piao Dong Yuan appeared at the Chang Hai DoJo and stepped forward to confess.
Piao Dong Yuan revealed that twelve years ago, driven by his anger and dismay over Jin Yi Shan's defeat by Qu Xiangnan, he had consumed alcohol and, in a drunken state, secretly added stimulants to Qu Xiangnan's water bottle after the match had already begun. Qu Xiangnan, unknowingly, took a sip of the drugged water only after the competition concluded, leading to his positive test result. The truth finally came to light, exonerating Qu Xiangnan after years of false accusation. Qu Xiangnan, relieved, publicly forgave Piao Dong Yuan, while Jin Yi Shan was left to confront his own inability to accept defeat.
Episode 29 Recap
At a dance, Bai Cao became intoxicated. When Chu Yuan arrived, Bai Cao, in her drunken state, mistook him for Ruo Bai and embraced him. Chu Yuan carried her into the hall, where Ting Yi saw them and poured champagne over Bai Cao's face. Just then, Ting Hao and Ruo Bai entered the hall. Ruo Bai swiftly went to Bai Cao, carried her to his room, and carefully cleaned her face.
As she regained consciousness, Bai Cao asked Ruo Bai if he had forgiven her, to which he simply replied, "Yes." Bai Cao later thanked Senior Chu Yuan for his help in locating Piao Dong Yuan. Piao Dong Yuan was found to be staying in a nearby hotel; Teacher Qu had been denied entry to Chang Hai. Chu Yuan went to bring him.
Piao Dong Yuan then tearfully confessed to everyone that years ago, while drunk, he had put a stimulant in Teacher Qu's water, leading to Teacher Qu's permanent expulsion from Yuan Wu Dao. He apologized profusely, admitting his fault and stating he was prepared for any punishment. Qu Xiang Nan, however, graciously accepted his apology, expressing gratitude that Piao Dong Yuan chose to confess after so many years.
Qu Xiang Nan said he could finally be at ease, knowing his daughter and student would no longer be troubled by the injustice. Jin Yi Shan, realizing he had continuously humiliated an innocent man for years, felt deep regret and sincerely apologized to Qu Xiang Nan, then personally presented him with his well-deserved trophy. Jin Yi Shan also challenged Qu Xiang Nan to a fair match the following year, which Qu Xiang Nan accepted.
Seeing her father’s name cleared, Guang Ya was deeply moved and finally called him "Daddy." She lovingly applied pain relief medicine to his neck. Bai Cao was also overjoyed for her master, though she momentarily worried that Teacher Qu might not need her as much now that Guang Ya was openly expressing her affection. Teacher Qu reassured her that they were all family, and Chu Yuan took a precious family photo of them.
Teacher Qu, receiving a call from Hall Master Zheng, asked Bai Cao and Guang Ya to make the most of their remaining time at the training camp. He specifically encouraged Bai Cao, as the Best Camper, to cherish the opportunity to be trained by the unbeatable Master Yu Yue. He expressed profound gratitude to Bai Cao for staying by his side and giving him hope during his darkest times.
He also advised her to wholeheartedly pursue what she truly loved, whether it was Yuan Wu Dao or anything else. Chu Yuan then confessed his feelings to Bai Cao, telling her he liked her and would support her no matter her response, adding that he didn't want to wait any longer to tell her.
He also asked if his confession had made things awkward for her, reassuring her that he would still be her "first love senior," providing help and coaching whenever she needed, and asked her not to avoid him. Before Bai Cao could fully respond, Xiao Ying, unable to contain her excitement, passionately spoke for her, revealing that Bai Cao had liked Senior Chu Yuan for a long time.
Xiao Ying recounted how Bai Cao cherished every small item Chu Yuan had given her, like the elderberry bracelet and even a cleaned, empty medicinal oil bottle. When Chu Yuan asked Bai Cao if this was true, Xiao Ying enthusiastically confirmed it, then encouraged Chu Yuan and Bai Cao to date happily, celebrating their new relationship. As Chu Yuan took Bai Cao's hand, Ting Hao arrived with Ruo Bai, who looked frail and unwell.
Xiao Ying noticed Ruo Bai's condition, believing he might have a fever, and planned to visit him. Ting Hao confronted Bai Cao, asking if she and Chu Yuan were truly dating, and cryptically warned her that "what you see might not necessarily be everything." He then went to Ruo Bai, who had an arm injury, suspecting he was hurt while helping Bai Cao find the security guard to clear Teacher Qu's name.
Ruo Bai asked Ting Hao not to tell anyone about his injury. Ting Hao was deeply moved by Ruo Bai's silent sacrifices for Bai Cao, but honored his promise not to reveal the full truth, only urging Bai Cao to carefully consider her feelings and not to "wrong" someone who loved her deeply. Bai Cao, however, remained confused by his words.
Later, Li En Xiu met Ting Hao and confessed her long-standing feelings for him, which had only deepened over time. Ting Hao admitted that he had initially thought he liked her too, but after meeting Bai Cao, his feelings changed. Bai Cao rejected Ting Hao, expressing respect but no romantic feelings. He shrugged off her rejection, claiming his heart was "like Iron Man's" and impervious to such blows.
He then reiterated his earlier warning to Bai Cao, hinting at Ruo Bai’s selfless love for her by recalling Ruo Bai's past declaration of protecting Bai Cao with his life and begging for justice on her behalf. Ting Hao promised to stop pursuing Bai Cao but asked to remain good friends. He pressed her again to honestly reflect on who she truly liked and if she truly loved Chu Yuan, leaving Bai Cao even more perplexed.
Li En Xiu, having overheard Ting Hao's conversation with Bai Cao, then asked him directly if he liked Bai Cao. When he confirmed his feelings, she pointed out that Bai Cao had already rejected him and offered herself, saying he could try liking her instead. Bai Cao received the Best Camper trophy and immediately tried to give it to Ruo Bai, insisting it was because of his guidance and help that she was able to defeat Jin Min Zhu.
Ruo Bai initially declined, but with urging from Chu Yuan and Xiao Ying, he accepted it, promising to take it back to An Yang for her. The victory earned Bai Cao the right to compete against Fang Ting Yi for a spot in the City Youth Competition. However, Ting Yi had made such rapid progress in her training that observers believed she could even match Li En Xiu, causing concern that Bai Cao stood no chance against her.
One evening, Mei Ling excitedly rallied everyone to Chu Yuan's room after seeing Li En Xiu enter it. They found En Xiu and Chu Yuan having tea, with En Xiu holding his arm and recounting a childhood story. Mei Ling and the others were caught peeking, trying to explain they were "looking at flowers." Li En Xiu then provocatively invited Bai Cao to join them, declaring herself "the most important girl in Brother Chu Yuan's heart."
Bai Cao, feeling hurt and confused, politely declined and left. Xiao Ying, upset on Bai Cao's behalf, expressed disbelief that Chu Yuan would act this way after confessing to Bai Cao, and questioned Li En Xiu's character. Bai Cao, deeply troubled, found herself questioning if Senior Chu Yuan and Senior En Xiu were truly in a relationship. Observing Bai Cao's distant behavior, Chu Yuan approached her, noting she had been avoiding him.
He reaffirmed that he only liked her and wanted to clear up any misunderstandings. He encouraged her to ask him any questions directly, no matter how big, promising he would not be angry or avoid her. He playfully asked if he would confess to her if he already had another girlfriend, further dispelling her doubts. Bai Cao thanked him, her understanding restored.
Episode 30 Recap
Bai Cao found herself pondering the complexities of romance, observing the subtle interactions around her. She noted the many contenders for Chu Yuan's affection, and felt compelled to work harder to avoid losing Ruo Bai. Ruo Bai, in turn, observed Bai Cao's distracted state during practice and, sensing her thoughts about Chu Yuan, advised her to remain focused and to ask directly if she had any questions or misunderstandings regarding Chu Yuan, who he stated was "not like she thought."
Later, Chu Yuan approached Bai Cao, noticing her avoidance. He clarified that he had always liked her and only her, urging her to communicate her thoughts directly rather than misinterpreting situations or overthinking. Taking his words to heart, Bai Cao asked about his relationship with Li En Xiu, prompting Chu Yuan to reveal a long-buried secret. He recounted his childhood, spent under a large tree at Song Bai DoJo, which his mother always viewed with sadness.
He initially believed winning competitions would make her happy, and his early successes were indeed glorious. However, he gradually noticed comments comparing his leg techniques to a formidable master named Li Yun Yue, and his mother's sorrow deepened with his victories. The truth became clear after a championship match when Li En Xiu, then a young girl, secretly visited him from Korea. She remarked on his striking resemblance to her father, Li Yun Yue.
Chu Yuan soon learned that Li Yun Yue was his biological father, who, along with his mother, had once been a talented disciple at Song Bai DoJo. Both had gone to Chang Hai Martial Arts Hall in Korea to further their Yuan Wu Dao training. Obsessed with Yuan Wu Dao, Li Yun Yue chose to stay in Chang Hai, never returning. He eventually married the Chang Hai Hall Master's daughter and inherited the mantle of the Chang Hai Hall Master.
Li En Xiu revealed that her father was unaware of his mother's pregnancy when he made that choice, suggesting he might not have left if he had known. His mother later married his current father, Hall Master Yu. Bai Cao inferred that Chu Yuan withdrew from Yuan Wu Dao to spare Mrs. Yu pain, but Chu Yuan clarified that he didn't want either of his parents to look at him during competitions and be reminded of the past.
He hoped his departure would erase those memories, allowing them to live happily. He confessed that discovering this truth had thrown his world into chaos, making him unwilling to practice or even see a Yuan Wu Dao stage. He admitted he felt like an "escapee" and didn't know what he was afraid of. When Bai Cao asked if he regretted his choice or wished to meet Li Yun Yue, he repeatedly replied, "I don't know."
Meanwhile, Li En Xiu visited her father, Li Yun Yue, who had been in seclusion for three months. She updated him on the training camp, mentioning that Min Sheng Hao had won the male competition but lacked the "noble aura" of a past winner (Ting Hao). She also spoke highly of Bai Cao, a talented new contestant she believed Li Yun Yue should train, recognizing her potential to become her biggest competitor.
Li En Xiu also expressed her loneliness, wishing for a brother or a strong rival. The next day, Bai Cao met Li Yun Yue for her guidance session as the top camper. While performing her techniques, her thoughts drifted back to Chu Yuan's story and his emotional turmoil, making her unable to fully concentrate. Li Yun Yue observed her performance, noting her distraction but also her exceptional control and power, a result of hard work and natural talent.
He commented on how she compensated for her non-ideal physique with high jumps and fast, twisted leg techniques. Still recalling Chu Yuan's "I don't know," Bai Cao made a request to Li Yun Yue, offering to exchange her day of teaching for a chance for Chu Yuan to meet his biological father. After the session, Bai Cao left. Ruo Bai, who had been waiting, was confused by her early departure and suspected a misunderstanding.
He attempted to enter Li Yun Yue's private residence, despite Min Sheng Hao's protests. Ruo Bai called out to Li Yun Yue, questioning why Bai Cao's full day of training was cut short. Li Yun Yue, maintaining a reserved demeanor, allowed Ruo Bai inside. He simply stated that Bai Cao's performance was excellent, and he had made a promise to her.
Ruo Bai remained bewildered, but eventually understood after Bai Cao later informed him about Li Yun Yue's resemblance to Chu Yuan, and that she had made a request concerning Chu Yuan. Ruo Bai, now understanding the full story, found Chu Yuan. He apologized for his past harsh judgments, admitting he had wrongly "hated" Chu Yuan for stubbornly quitting Yuan Wu Dao without explanation.
Chu Yuan, in turn, apologized for the pressure he had put on Ruo Bai, causing him to lose his usual cheerful demeanor. Ruo Bai questioned how long Chu Yuan would let this issue trouble him. Chu Yuan explained that he withdrew from competitions to prevent his parents from reliving sad memories, hoping they could live peacefully. Ruo Bai countered that simply quitting Yuan Wu Dao was "useless" if it didn't bring true happiness.
He reminded Chu Yuan of his past advice to choose with his heart, asking if his current choice was truly free of regret. Ruo Bai recalled the "Chu Yuan who led Song Bai to championships," a joyful young man whose happiness radiated to everyone. He urged Chu Yuan to "undo the knot in his heart" for the sake of his parents and everyone who cared for him.
Later, Bai Cao expressed remorse to Ruo Bai for giving up her training opportunity, expecting him to be disappointed. However, Ruo Bai reassured her, telling her she "did really well," which pleased Bai Cao. She then further advised Chu Yuan to make a choice that would bring him genuine happiness and free him from regret, a choice that would also bring joy to his parents and to Ruo Bai himself.
Witnessing her father's distant demeanor and complex expression, Li En Xiu felt a pang of sadness. She questioned if she had been wrong to previously prevent her father and Chu Yuan from meeting, realizing that Li Yun Yue might deeply regret his decision to stay at Chang Hai. She concluded that if he could choose again, he would likely have chosen to stay in China with Chu Yuan's mother. After much contemplation, Li Yun Yue decided to meet Chu Yuan.
The father and son met with a faint sadness, rather than joy. Li Yun Yue expressed his deep regret for his past choice and wished he could have stayed in China with Chu Yuan's mother. As a token, he gifted Chu Yuan a Yuan Wu Dao uniform, cautioning him against making similar irreversible mistakes and encouraging him to pursue what he truly loved.
Episode 31 Recap
Before returning to An Yang, Ruo Bai informed Qi Bai Cao that her match against Fang Ting Yi would require intensified training upon their return. Senior Chu Yuan then invited Ruo Bai and Qi Bai Cao to take a walk together on their last day in Korea. Ruo Bai declined, telling them to go ahead without him, as he had other things to do, but advised them not to get too carried away.
Chu Yuan thanked Qi Bai Cao for her actions with Grandmaster Yun Yue and took her to an amusement park. Qi Bai Cao was thrilled, expressing her excitement to try various rides. Playfully, she asked Chu Yuan if he would be scared, offering to protect him, to which he responded that she should hold onto him if she was.
After enjoying the rides, Qi Bai Cao received a Spongebob item from Chu Yuan and considered buying gifts for Xiao Ying and Ruo Bai. Meanwhile, a friend confronted Ruo Bai about allowing Chu Yuan and Qi Bai Cao to spend so much time together, especially after Chu Yuan's confession, but Ruo Bai simply stated that he cared most about Qi Bai Cao’s happiness. Chu Yuan later gave Qi Bai Cao a lucky clover necklace.
Noticing her strawberry hair clip, he asked if it was from someone special. Qi Bai Cao explained that she had always wanted it but couldn't afford it, and finding it in her locker made her feel cared for. She thanked Chu Yuan, who told her to keep wearing it if she liked it, which she promised to do. On the day of their departure from Korea, Li En Xiu approached Chu Yuan to say goodbye.
Xiao Ying and others were upset by their apparent closeness and wanted Qi Bai Cao to confront Li En Xiu. However, Qi Bai Cao stopped Xiao Ying, explaining that things were not as they seemed. Li En Xiu then walked over to Qi Bai Cao and gave her a beloved teddy bear as a farewell gift, explaining that she thought Qi Bai Cao resembled it and hoped it would stay by her side until their next competition.
Qi Bai Cao gratefully accepted, promising to take good care of it. Xiao Ying, still puzzled, tried to get details about Qi Bai Cao's conversation with Li En Xiu, but Qi Bai Cao playfully evaded her questions. Upon their arrival at An Yang airport, Fang Ting Hao arrived by car. To everyone's surprise, he was there not for Qi Bai Cao, but for Ruo Bai. Ruo Bai initially refused to go with him, citing training commitments.
Fang Ting Hao threatened to reveal a secret if Ruo Bai didn't cooperate, forcing him to agree to meet later. Fang Ting Hao then took Ruo Bai to a hospital where a doctor was waiting. Fang Ting Hao confronted Ruo Bai, revealing he knew the severity of his injuries and had been worried. Despite Ruo Bai's attempts to downplay his condition, Fang Ting Hao insisted he see the doctor immediately.
The doctor informed Ruo Bai that his heart was in a very bad condition and recommended immediate hospitalization for surgery, warning that delaying it would be life-threatening. Ruo Bai refused, stating he had an important commitment: his promise to Qi Bai Cao to enter an upcoming competition.
As they were discussing this, Ruo Bai received a frantic call informing him that Coach Shen had gone back on her word, and Qi Bai Cao's right to compete in the City Youth Competition had been canceled, urging him to return immediately. Ruo Bai apologized to the doctor and rushed off, with Fang Ting Hao assuring the doctor he would bring Ruo Bai back for surgery.
Back at the training base, everyone learned from a news report that Fang Ting Yi had been selected for the City Youth Competition, despite Coach Shen's earlier promise to Qi Bai Cao. Xiao Ying was outraged and wanted to confront Coach Shen, but Qi Bai Cao calmed her, suggesting they hear Coach Shen's explanation first.
When Qi Bai Cao directly questioned Coach Shen about her broken promise, asking for a fair competition with Fang Ting Yi, Fang Ting Yi scoffed, listing her years of experience and championships as reasons why Qi Bai Cao couldn't fairly compete with her. Coach Shen admitted she had made a promise to Ruo Bai about a fair competition but claimed that "conditions had changed."
At this, Xiao Ying angrily interjected, revealing how seriously Ruo Bai and Qi Bai Cao had taken the promise, describing Qi Bai Cao's intense training and how Ruo Bai, while training with her daily, had become so sick he fainted. She questioned how Coach Shen could justify her decision to them. Ruo Bai then arrived and spoke with Coach Shen.
Coach Shen defended her decision by explaining Fang Ting Yi's significant improvement in power and speed during her solitary month of training, making her selection "very normal." Ruo Bai countered by highlighting Qi Bai Cao's own remarkable progress, mentioning her Best Camper award in Korea and her effortless Whirlwind Triple Kick with adaptable attack directions.
He argued that the championship should be decided by current ability, not just experience or fame, and that denying Qi Bai Cao a chance to compete was irresponsible. Coach Shen conceded, agreeing to hold the promised match between Fang Ting Yi and Qi Bai Cao the following day, pledging to support Qi Bai Cao if she won. Coach Shen then asked Ruo Bai if he had considered her earlier suggestion to become a coach.
After a moment's pause, Ruo Bai, likely recalling the doctor's warnings about his health, agreed, stating he wished to focus on Qi Bai Cao's training. Coach Shen confirmed that this decision meant he would give up his status as a competitor. Ruo Bai affirmed that he understood. Coach Shen praised his self-sacrifice but wondered aloud if Qi Bai Cao would agree if she knew the full extent of his sacrifice. Ruo Bai replied that she didn't need to know.
However, Qi Bai Cao had overheard their conversation. She immediately objected, firmly stating that Ruo Bai would not give up training or become an assistant coach. Ruo Bai cut her off, insisting it was his own business and he would decide for himself before walking away. Qi Bai Cao followed him, demanding to know why he was giving up Yuan Wu Dao for her and why he had accepted the assistant coach position.
Ruo Bai claimed it wasn't just for her and that he no longer wanted to practice Yuan Wu Dao. Qi Bai Cao didn't believe him, asserting that it was all because of her, that he had sacrificed too much, and now his career. Ruo Bai continued to insist it had nothing to do with her and that his decisions were his own, not hers to worry about.
Visibly frustrated, Qi Bai Cao argued that it "did" concern her, and that he always kept things from her, even his illness, only wanting her to focus on training. She questioned why he couldn't share his problems with her.
Episode 32 (Ending) Recap
Fang Tingyi loudly challenged Bai Cao, declaring her intent to defeat her in a duel for the City Youth Competition spot. She stated publicly that if she were to lose, she would relinquish her chance to participate in the highly coveted City Youth Competition, which all martial artists dream of. Fang Tingyi's persistence left Bai Cao speechless, and the atmosphere grew tense. Everyone sensed a strong tension.
At this moment, only Ruo Bai remained calm, maintaining his usual composure when dealing with emergencies. He reached out, took Bai Cao by the hand, and led her away. Later, Fang Tinghao and Yu Chuyuan discussed Ruo Bai, expressing their admiration for him. Many critical events Bai Cao experienced in Korea, including her master Qu Xiangnan being cleared of past wrongdoings, were all accomplished by Ruo Bai.
Ruo Bai silently loved Bai Cao, expecting nothing in return, a level of selflessness that other men, including Fang Tinghao and Yu Chuyuan, might not be able to achieve. Fang Tinghao felt inferior because of this, which led him to give up pursuing Bai Cao. Yu Chuyuan, although also impressed by Ruo Bai's actions, was unwilling to give up on Bai Cao. He believed love was not a transaction and simply wanted to know Bai Cao's true feelings.
He asserted that if Bai Cao loved him, he would certainly pursue a relationship with her; otherwise, he would not. As night fell, the Song Bai DoJo was silent. Bai Cao sat on the floor, her mind in turmoil, recalling the bits and pieces of time spent with Ruo Bai. Past events were vivid, causing her much distress. After the trip to Korea, Bai Cao had already felt Ruo Bai's profound love.
Ruo Bai entered the dojo and severely criticized Bai Cao, who was disheartened and not actively training. With the duel against Fang Tingyi approaching, Bai Cao, entangled in emotions, had no desire to practice martial arts. She emotionally broke down, blaming herself for being too selfish, which caused Ruo Bai to give up his martial arts dream and retreat behind the scenes.
She expressed her guilt and sadness, stating she didn't want him to sacrifice so much for her, to give up Yuan Wu Dao, or become an assistant coach, and that she no longer wanted him to accompany her training. Ruo Bai sternly dismissed her emotional reasoning, clarifying that his efforts were not due to personal feelings for her, but instead focused on the spirit of Yuan Wu Dao.
He denied having personal feelings for Bai Cao and urged her to concentrate her energy on her martial arts career, emphasizing that competition is about skill, effort, and the true spirit of Yuan Wu Dao, not sympathy or modesty. At a deeply emotional moment, Bai Cao actively reached out and embraced Ruo Bai, who was about to leave. She cried so touchingly that even the hard-hearted Ruo Bai involuntarily turned around and embraced her back, wiping away her tears.
This scene was witnessed by Yu Chuyuan, who was standing outside the dojo. An unspeakable bitterness surged into his heart. Yu Chuyuan, with a look of despair, turned and left, finding a place to sit and recall his time with Bai Cao. Bai Cao seemed to have fallen in love with Ruo Bai, and Yu Chuyuan pondered how he should choose between friendship and love.
The next day, as Bai Cao prepared to enter the arena for her duel with Fang Tingyi, Ruo Bai, feeling unwell, hurriedly left before the match began. His unusual behavior caught everyone's attention. Fang Tinghao and Yu Chuyuan followed closely, and the two found Ruo Bai collapsed in the lobby corridor. They quickly helped him to the dojo's exterior, as other Song Bai members also followed, watching with grave expressions as Ruo Bai was taken away by paramedics.
Lying on a simple stretcher, Ruo Bai, pale, revealed a faint, knowing smile. In his view, to love someone is to selflessly give to them without expecting anything in return. Inspired by him, Bai Cao continued further on her martial arts path, with a bright future awaiting her.
