The Untamed Episode 49 Recap
> The Untamed Recap
Jin Guangyao, looking pitiful, pleaded with Lan Xichen, asserting that their long acquaintance should make Lan Xichen understand his actions. He declared he no longer desired the position of Chief Cultivator and had already handed over the Stygian Tiger Amulet. He promised to set off for Dongying that very night, never to return, and begged Lan Xichen to grant him a chance to live.
Lan Xichen sternly refused to call him "second brother," reminding Jin Guangyao that he had already made this clear when Jin Guangyao obstinately planned the chaotic siege at the Burial Mounds, stating such a depraved person was unworthy of the title. Jin Guangyao, with tears in his eyes, claimed that the Burial Mounds incident was a grave mistake committed in a moment of weakness, insisting he had no other recourse.
He explained that he had received a threatening letter detailing his past misdeeds, which would be exposed in seven days, demanding his self-execution or facing a public death. To avoid this, he had preemptively gathered all the clans to siege the Burial Mounds, believing that even if his secrets were eventually revealed, the cultivation world would be too weakened to hold him accountable.
He argued he had no alternative but to ensure their demise or his own, refusing to become a laughingstock, kneel, and beg for mercy. Lan Xichen countered that his predicament was a result of his own past misdeeds, which provided others with leverage against him. Lan Xichen, containing his anger, knelt to ask why Jin Guangyao married Qin Su, knowing they were blood siblings.
Jin Guangyao tearfully explained that he had expended immense effort to secure Qin Cangye’s permission for the marriage, and with the wedding day approaching, both Qin Cangye and Jin Guangshan were satisfied. He stated that he could not suddenly call off the wedding without an excuse, nor could he explain the truth to them. He described his shock when Madam Qin secretly approached him before the wedding to reveal the truth, comparing the feeling to being struck by lightning.
He revealed that Madam Qin had been raped by Jin Guangshan, who had later forgotten he even had a daughter with her. Madam Qin had lived in fear for years, never daring to tell her husband. Jin Guangyao feared that canceling the marriage would cause a catastrophic falling out between Jin Guangshan and Qin Cangye, leaving him in the most tragic position. Lan Xichen further pressed, asking why he continued to have relations with Qin Su after learning the truth.
Jin Guangyao admitted he was torn, unsure whether to detest his beastly father or his own paranoid self. Lan Xichen then confronted him directly about killing his father, Jin Guangshan. Jin Guangyao confessed he had indeed killed him, and when pressed on the method, he admitted to doing so by providing Jin Guangshan with many women until his death. Infuriated, Lan Xichen slapped him across the face. Undeterred, Jin Guangyao continued his confession, admitting his involvement in Jin Zixuan’s death.
Jin Guangyao admitted that Jin Zixuan's death was not accidental. He confessed to deliberately allowing Jin Zixun to gather people to ambush Wei Wuxian at Qiongqi Road and ensured Jin Zixuan was also informed and arrived at the location. He and Su She then collaborated to play wicked tunes, causing Wen Ning to lose control and kill both Jin Zixuan and Jin Zixun.
Upon hearing this, Jin Ling, enraged, lunged at Jin Guangyao, unable to reconcile that the uncle he had always respected was responsible for his father’s death. Jin Guangyao gazed at Jin Ling with sorrow, finally revealing his true feelings.
He admitted to always being jealous of Jin Zixuan, who received Jin Guangshan's affection and favor, while he himself was treated like a dog, even kicked down the Jinlintai from the very top stair to the bottom, stripped of all dignity and made a mockery. He confessed that only by killing Jin Zixuan could he find a measure of internal peace. Jin Guangyao admitted he once harbored hopes for his father, Jin Guangshan.
He would carry out any of Jin Guangshan's commands, no matter how foolish or hateful, whether it was to frame Wei Wuxian or protect Xue Yang. However, his hopes were shattered when, during a drunken outing, Jin Guangshan dismissed him to a courtesan as "not worth mentioning," making it clear he was less than nothing in his father’s eyes.
This became the final straw, extinguishing his last shred of hope and replacing it with pure hatred and a desire to kill. The atmosphere grew heavy with this revelation, leaving everyone pondering the complex mix of pity and hatred for Jin Guangyao. Seizing the moment, Jin Guangyao, who had cleverly hidden a qin string within his robes, produced it and wrapped it around Jin Ling's neck, intending to use him as a hostage to secure his escape.
Jiang Cheng angrily questioned how Jin Guangyao still had a weapon when Wei Wuxian had confiscated all his qin strings. Wei Wuxian acknowledged Jin Guangyao's cunning, noting his ability to conceal it within his body. Jin Guangyao assured them Jin Ling would be unharmed, promising to release him later. When Jiang Cheng offered himself as a hostage instead, Jin Guangyao refused, claiming Jiang Cheng's injuries would slow him down.
Su She then offered himself, to which Jin Guangyao gave a subtle nod of appreciation. Suddenly, Sizhui was violently flung into the room, struggling to his feet and explaining that he couldn't stop the person outside. Wei Wuxian, puzzled, watched as a dark mist surged in. A figure, heavily armed with the weighty Baxia blade, lumbered in, each step heavy and deliberate. The figure initially appeared to be Nie Mingjue, but upon closer inspection, it was Wen Ning.
Both Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji quickly realized that Baxia's Blade Spirit had possessed Wen Ning. True to the realization, Wen Ning's movements mimicked Nie Mingjue's as he roared and brought Baxia down. In terror, Jin Guangyao released the qin string from Jin Ling's neck. Wei Wuxian swiftly pulled Jin Ling to safety as the massive blade struck Jin Guangyao’s shoulder, severing his entire arm and causing blood to gush forth.
Jin Guangyao shrieked in agony as his blood splattered onto Jin Ling. Sensing the blood, Baxia immediately turned its focus toward Jin Ling. In that critical moment, Wei Wuxian urgently called Wen Ning's name. Wen Ning momentarily regained some semblance of consciousness, but he could not control Baxia. As the Blade Spirit threatened to become uncontrollable again, Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen collaborated, playing the Cleansing Music, while Wei Wuxian played Chenqing, gradually subduing Baxia.
Just as the chaos began to subside, Nie Huaisang cried out loudly, claiming Su She had stabbed him. Su She looked bewildered by the accusation, but Nie Huaisang continued to shriek for help. Unexpectedly, the just-suppressed Baxia suddenly flew through the air, piercing Su She’s heart. Su She collapsed, dying instantly, his final gaze fixed upon the severely injured Jin Guangyao, a testament to his unwavering loyalty.
After Su She's death, Wei Wuxian continued to play Chenqing, finally sealing Baxia and Nie Mingjue's body within the coffin. With the immediate threat quelled, Lan Xichen, despite knowing Jin Guangyao's heinous crimes, knelt to apply medicine to his wound. He warned Jin Guangyao that any further treacherous actions would be met with swift and merciless retribution. Listening intently, Nie Huaisang subtly looked up, a fleeting, almost imperceptible glint of malevolence in his eyes.
When Lan Xichen asked him for the wound medicine, Nie Huaisang picked up a bottle from the ground but deliberately tucked it into his robes, feigning a search for it. As Lan Xichen turned his back to attend to Jin Guangyao, Nie Huaisang fixed his gaze behind Lan Xichen and cried out, warning him to watch his back and claiming to have seen Jin Guangyao reaching behind him.
Believing Jin Guangyao was about to attack him, Lan Xichen instinctively drew his sword and, without hesitation, plunged it into Jin Guangyao's chest. Jin Guangyao’s eyes widened in disbelief, staring blankly.
