The Untamed Episode 46 Recap
> The Untamed Recap
Following the shocking revelations at Lotus Cove, cultivators across the land buzzed with discussion. Many concluded that for Jin Guangyao to solidify his position within the Lanling Jin clan, he absolutely needed the support of a powerful father-in-law like Qin Cangye. This, they believed, was the unspeakable reason he dared to marry Qin Su, his own half-sister. The rumors about Jin Guangyao cruelly killing his son, Jin Rusong, also began to make sense.
It was widely known that children born of siblings often suffered from mental deficiencies. Fearing public scrutiny and accusations that the child was tainted by his mother's "dirty blood," Jin Guangyao was suspected of murdering Jin Rusong himself and then framing an opposing clan leader, using the "revenge" as a pretext to eliminate his enemies. Many agreed that Lianfang Zun was unparalleled in his ruthless cunning. Wei Wuxian, however, harbored deep suspicions.
He deduced that Bicao was the one who had informed Qin Su of the truth and then publicly exposed Jin Guangyao's secrets. He directly questioned Bicao, asking why she had kept the secret for so many years only to reveal it now. Bicao nervously explained that she felt compelled to expose Jin Guangyao’s true nature and seek justice for her lady, especially after Qin Su's mysterious suicide at Jinlintai.
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji still found many points questionable, such as why Jin Guangyao, known for his ruthlessness, spared Sisi after killing over twenty people, and the lack of physical evidence to accompany the witnesses. Yet, others were quick to dismiss these doubts.
They recalled Jin Guangyao's past actions, including his alleged involvement in Nie Mingjue's death, his targeting of Jin Guangshan's illegitimate children like Mo Xuanyu, Jin Zixuan's demise, and Xue Yang's escape and the creation of the Stygian Tiger Amulet. Convinced of Jin Guangyao's heinous crimes—accused of killing his father, brothers, son, master, and friends—the cultivators were stirred into a frenzy, vowing to besiege Jinlintai and capture Jin Guangyao alive.
Wei Wuxian felt a profound sadness, observing how the once revered Lianfang Zun had become a public enemy overnight. As they walked through a corridor, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji discussed the mastermind behind Sisi and Bicao’s revelations. Lan Wangji surmised that this individual had meticulously planned every step: saving Sisi, persuading her to testify, bribing Bicao, and carefully timing their public disclosures.
He suggested this person’s cunning might even rival Jin Guangyao’s, and speculated it could be the mysterious black-robed figure who had led them to Nie Mingjue's head. While the mastermind's true motives remained unclear, Jin Guangyao's guilt now seemed undeniable, his downfall a certainty. Lan Wangji immediately decided to send a message to his brother, Lan Xichen, warning him to be vigilant. Their path led them to the Jiang clan ancestral hall.
Wei Wuxian hesitated, but ultimately followed Lan Wangji inside to pay respects to Jiang Fengmian, Yu Ziyuan, and Jiang Yanli. Wei Wuxian reminisced aloud about how Madam Yu frequently punished him in the very hall. Lan Wangji quietly asked if Wei Wuxian intended to tell Jiang Cheng the truth about his golden core, but Wei Wuxian demurred, citing the long-standing estrangement between them and the unavoidable fact that he had created the Stygian Tiger Amulet.
Their quiet moments were shattered by Jiang Cheng, who stormed in, furiously rebuking Wei Wuxian for daring to enter his family's sacred space, calling him an "outsider" with no right to bring "awful people" like Wen Ning and Lan Wangji into Lotus Cove. Jiang Cheng accused Wei Wuxian of being a "hero" who caused the deaths of their parents and the ruin of Lotus Cove by saving Lan Wangji.
He further blamed Wei Wuxian for saving the Wen remnants, which he claimed led to Jiang Yanli's death and implicated him in Jin Zixuan's death as well. He then turned his ire on Lan Wangji, criticizing him for colluding with Wei Wuxian and bringing shame upon the Gusu Lan clan. Wei Wuxian, enraged by Jiang Cheng's insults towards Lan Wangji, ordered him to apologize and grabbed Jiang Cheng's collar.
However, realizing they were in the ancestral hall, Wei Wuxian released him. He then pulled Lan Wangji away, declaring they would leave. Jiang Cheng pursued them outside, drawing his spiritual weapon, Zidian, and mockingly challenged Wei Wuxian to fight. Weakened from previous battles and suffering a nosebleed, Wei Wuxian collapsed, losing consciousness. Wen Ning arrived, shielding the unconscious Wei Wuxian from Jiang Cheng's Zidian whips.
Despite the blows, Wen Ning bit his lip and offered Suibian, Wei Wuxian’s sword, to Jiang Cheng, daring him to unsheathe it. Cornered, Jiang Cheng gripped Suibian's hilt and pulled. To his and Lan Wangji's astonishment, the sword, long sealed to all others, slid effortlessly from its sheath. Wen Ning then revealed the shocking truth: the golden core now circulating spiritual power within Jiang Cheng's body was Wei Wuxian's. That was why Suibian had recognized him.
Jiang Cheng erupted in a furious denial, screaming that his golden core had been repaired by Baoshan Wanderer. Wen Ning calmly recounted the day Jiang Cheng ascended the mountain blindfolded, describing the path and the sounds, confirming it was not Baoshan Wanderer's secluded abode but a deserted mountain in Yiling.
He revealed that his sister, Wen Qing, the most skilled physician in the Qishan Wen clan, had performed the excruciating procedure of surgically removing Wei Wuxian's golden core and transferring it to Jiang Cheng. Jiang Cheng’s core had never been repaired. A wave of gut-wrenching realization washed over Jiang Cheng.
He finally understood why Wei Wuxian had never carried Suibian again, and why he had turned to cultivating demonic arts—because he no longer possessed a golden core and could not continue on the path of the sword. Lan Wangji listened to every word, his eyes fixed on the unconscious Wei Wuxian. Tears welled up in his eyes as he comprehended the immense pain Wei Wuxian must have endured from the core transfer.
Wen Ning further explained that to ensure the golden core's integrity during transfer, Wei Wuxian had to remain fully conscious throughout the two-night, one-day ordeal, enduring the agonizing sensation of his surging spiritual power slowly becoming stagnant. Wen Ning recalled Wen Qing's initial reluctance due to the mere fifty percent success rate and the donor becoming a "mediocre" without a golden core.
However, Wei Wuxian had insisted, saying that even if he failed, he had other paths, but Jiang Cheng, who cared so much about his cultivation, would be utterly ruined if he remained a mere ordinary person. Lan Wangji's heart ached with regret, remembering his past criticisms of Wei Wuxian's unconventional cultivation, never realizing the profound sacrifice that lay beneath it. Lan Wangji gently helped the still unconscious Wei Wuxian.
Wen Ning urged Jiang Cheng to test Suibian on others to prove the truth, but Jiang Cheng, overwhelmed by the revelation, snatched the sword and ran off, screaming in anguish. Wen Ning and Lan Wangji then carefully brought Wei Wuxian onto a boat. On the boat, Wen Ning thanked Lan Wangji for taking care of Wen Yuan.
Lan Wangji explained that he had found a feverish Wen Yuan hiding in a cave at the Burial Mounds while searching for Wei Wuxian many years ago. He then took the boy back to Gusu and raised him, deliberately keeping his past hidden so Wen Yuan could live a happy life without the burden of painful memories. Soon after, Wei Wuxian finally regained consciousness.
Lan Wangji, honoring his promise to Wen Ning, did not reveal that Jiang Cheng now knew about the core transfer. Wei Wuxian gazed blankly at the surrounding lotus lake, a faint smile gracing his lips as he imagined Jiang Yanli sitting at the boat's bow, calling to him to eat lotus seeds. His eyes welled up, and he instinctively plucked a fresh lotus seedpod, beginning to peel the seeds.
Although Lan Wangji knew the lotus ponds in this area had owners, he uncharacteristically did not stop Wei Wuxian. Instead, he joined him, peeling and eating lotus seeds together with Wen Ning. As the three enjoyed the moment, Lan Wangji received a message via a Jin clan paper butterfly, informing him that Jin Guangyao had arrived in Yunmeng. Wei Wuxian’s eyes suddenly lit up.
He remembered seeing a title deed for "Yunping City" in Jin Guangyao's secret chamber, placed alongside Nie Mingjue's head and a copy of the Collection of Turmoil. He realized that Jin Guangyao, if in Yunmeng, would undoubtedly head to Yunping City, as it must be a place of extreme importance to him. Without delay, the three quickly set off for their destination. Upon arriving in Yunping City, they encountered a group of hooligans bothering Wen Ning in the street. Wei Wuxian quickly conjured numerous illusionary butterflies, distracting the thugs and allowing Wen Ning to pass unmolested.
